Thank you for this! This was my question Thursday night. I added supplemental light to them (they are in my barn and may miss out on some early morning rays) and got 3 eggs today. Should get about a dozen but they could be picking back up!
Just moved my birds outside and they stopped laying on the second day. Also noticed a fox in the yard recently, but haven't seen him pressuring the hutch. O well, I've got plenty of eggs laying around until they start back up.
@Boyd Chapman You can feed them alot of different stuff, but you need to make sure you keep the protein levels about 25% or more for good growth and egg laying. Giving treats is ok just don't give to much. Have fun watching Quail Tv.
@@Sagewolf1975 Ok. What about feeding them cover crops like clover, rye, buckwheat,etc? As ways to supplement your feed cost. The prices are going up and up.
@@boydchapman5660 You can, but you just need to make sure you don't drop your overall protein % down too much. I feed them stuff from my yard a couple time a week like woodland sorrel, clover, mulberry leaves, and anything else that is safe for them. I sometimes give them mealworms or certain kinds of suets also as a treat.
@connie Greenup A radio could work for awhile, but I feel that an animal would eventually ignore it when it does not see anyone near the birds. Never hurts to try though.
Is anyone else having issues finding gamebird food? I'm in CT, TSC in our area sucks doesnt stock much, called 2 other feed stores, nothing in stock. Went to a small independent store they had some, but they said they're having hard time getting feeds in.
If you call the 800# and put in a standing order they will deliver your orders to store for you to pickup it’s what I do for meat chickens so I don’t have to stress every month
@@danielleterry180Thank you for the suggestion. I've been avoiding TSC because it's out of the way in a small city. I got 4 bags from small store in next town over. When I'm down to 2 bags I'm going to start calling each place.
In a pinch you can use the lower protein stuff, but egg laying maybe affected so I would only do that if I did not have a choice. Get 4 months worth of feed and restock once you are down to 2 months. This will give you a buffer if it gets tricky getting feed.
I have 11 hens, but I get 3 or 4 eggs. I don’t have lights in the hutch yet, but I’m surprised to see 3 or 4 eggs regularly. Why the other ladies not laying?
Mr Chris from my experience when you have a pest getting your animals you need to bury them deep enough that they won't dig it back up or completely get rid of it or set a trap because all you're doing is beating them in by throwing them over there
pretty sure Heat related stress caused the quail, ducks & chickens to nearly stop laying. We had a 4-5 cycle of extreme heat. quail are recovering, chickens doing better & couple ducks are back to routine. Ohh, bad hear Fox is back.

Our birds sometimes go on strike. Yep, when we don't feed them their snack of worms they let us know 😄
