I'm a little concerned with the apparent low difficulty level of the default Adventure mode. I couldn't, at least in the demo, imagine using any of those auto effect rings. I hope the game isn't super linear, as I was getting those vibes from my own time with it in addition to watching some impressions from YTubers that got to try out the broader event package a couple of weeks back.
I will honestly say that this game wasn’t on my radar until the demo dropped. Everything about it has this fantastic old school story driven element to it. The voice acting was wonderful and the fact that I was so deeply invested into the characters after a quick two hours of gameplay was not what I expected. I can’t wait for this game to drop on the 22nd.
I saw that it wasn't open world and I got excited. I then saw it took around 70 hours to 100% and I screamed. I love me some big open world long ass games but man every game is so big these days and there's just not enough time. It's refreshing to see this game have a pretty decent run time without a ton of bloat that's trying to steal your attention away for the next 2 years
I honestly prefer story driven non-open world RPGs over the open world with bloat. All the modern open world games feels pretty cookie cutter and level design suffers because the concentration was on the giant maps. There are some exceptions, but overall most open world games do not offer much beyond just a giant map.
@VentusLionheart I agree. Only exception is with open games, you do whatever TF you want to. There is no force to "do this then do this". I like OW games for this reason, but I think I only like them because I play linear games also. Having both is a good balance.

I just know that i'm buying it day one because I really loved the demo, the series is going back to medieval setting again, the combat is really fun and the story set up is really intriguing (i can't wait to get my hands on the full game on the 22nd June :)
So the first few hours of the game really pulled me in and I absolutely love the asthetic and characters, Yoshida's mark is all over this and i am 100% here for it, I spent a couple of hours in the bonus combat scenario just to get a feel for how the game works and yeah.. ff9 and ff7 have been sitting in my top list for 20 years.. but ff16 has the serious potential to dethrone.
@@KAvanAltenIt definitively is the first couple hours (depends on how fast you are, it may be less) as you can transfer the progress over to the final game. You also have the eikonic challenge, deeper into the story, which clearly states that you have abilities you shouldn't have at that point in the story, made more evident by having Garuda's powers to fight against... This year has been insane for game releases, i played the demo and honestly im just so hungry for more! The story is sooo much better than 15's and i cant believe how mature they went with it! But it still feels like an ff game, im blown away
For those who are worried about the battle system and haven't played the demo due to thinking you will experience spoilers... you have nothing to worry about. The demo is practically everything we've seen in trailers, and it looks, plays amazing and it is the future of Final Fantasy. As an old school FF fan I can tell you that THIS is going to be *EPIC*
I should point out there's really no risk of spoilers. The demo is straight up the first few hours of the game and the progress transfers over to the full game.
As a plot twist I'm pretty sure Ifrit was Clive. Regardless if this is true or not, the end of that demo had me shook. Can't wait to play the full game.
@@MrMrGuy I was thinking this too. I really hope Clive wasn't Ifrit though. The demo has done a good job at making me care about the characters. I expected it to end how it does but it was a lot more brutal than anticipated.
Great coverage! I am a long time FF fan but was apprehensive about the combat. The demo alleviated all my fears - it was so much fun to play. They did a spectacular job of getting us invested in the characters and gameplay. Such a strong opening!
I'm so hyped to play this game. I have confidence that Yoshi-P and crew will deliver. I know it's not turn based but that's not what makes a final fantasy game a final fantasy game. The game felt more like final fantasy than other games released within the last decade.
We were able to play as Joshua for a short period of time. I wonder if that will happen more as we progress the story with other main characters like Jill. I really hope so🤞🏼
@@kingflocka6501 I’m laughing but I almost cried in that part 🤣. Best part of the whole story, I knew he was gonna go but I didn’t know that he would go like that. But remember he’s also phoenix and there is a slight chance he can resurrect although I prefer that he’s gone for good to make the story more dramatic and even more dramatic if it was Clive who did it as Ifrit.
Funny that this didn't occur to me, but yeah that would be cool to play as other characters for a bit. I definitely think playing as Joshua was a tactic to play with our emotions though, and not necessarily a feature, so we will see.

This is why I am happy to be an older gamer. Hearing a game isn't open world and wont take 150 hours to complete is such a welcome relief. I don't have time for that insanity. Also, I don't have to be oddly excited about petting an in game dog when my real one is usually in the same room. Small perks of a few more decades lol.
I wouldn’t bet on an Xbox version of Final Fantasy XVI. It may be somewhat frustrating, but it’s nice to see each of the big 3 gave their major RPG for the year: Final Fantasy XVI, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Starfield. Competition is good.
Played demo when it released, and bloody hell was it impressive. Had it on performance instead graphics and the graphics were insane. Combat felt amazing and left me craving more. So far game hasn't let me down, and i heavily doubt it will. Also reason it has that skill menu is cause guy who worked on the combat also worked on DMC combat lol.
The expected playtime and the open "zones" make me excited about this game again. I never finished XV because of how open it was. Like a lot of people my age, I don't have a whole lot of time to take part in one of my favorite hobbies these days, so I will definitely pick this up.
yeah I felt that. I always loved open world as a teen and early 20s but it's just too much to tackle in sporadic 1-2 hour game sessions every few days. plus open world just seems gimmicky to extend game play time lately for most of them. I thought ff16 was coming out today and was so hype since I'm gonna be home alone tonight 😢
Two interesting things about the combat I noticed from the demo: Each Eikon has 4 abilities- 2 special attacks, 1 "utility" (like Phoenix's dash or Titans block) and 1 that's sort of a "counter": e.g Phoenix has an ability that dispels projectiles and fires a shockwave (powered up if you actually countered a projectile) And despite being full on action- there is a slight "turn-like" strategic vibe to the game because enemies have named attacks that are always accompanied by super-armor, an attack namecard, and often a telegraph
Definitely not a disappointing fact that this game isn't open world. Not every game needs to be open world. It doesn't always compliment the game. I like how they did it with this game.
Just finished the demo last night and I have some pros and cons. I like that the game shows you related lore entries whenever you pause a cutscene, it helps to make you understand some of the more complicated plot better as well as keeping track of the many characters involved in the story. The graphics look great, though I experienced some slowdowns even in framerate mode. It's not always a consistent 60fps but it will probably get fixed in the final release. I don't really like the camera tracking because sometimes it feels like it's fighting you whenever you try to manipulate the viewing angle. Items get automatically picked up whenever you walk to it and while it's nitpicky from me I always prefer pressing x first before picking up any item in an RPG. Combat is... mixed. It feels awkward that dodging and dashing require different buttons to execute since I'm more accustomed to dodging by dashing + directional button, also not liking the fact that dashing is an eidolon power and not a standard feature. Perfect dodging is also a bit annoying to perform. Even with a ring that slows time for you to press R1, it just feel tedious because you need to dodge almost all the time. Story wise it looks interesting, though the Game of Thrones vibe kind of threw me off guard.
Well with the ring/R1 dodge that's strictly due to you having the pendant that slowed the game down for you. Remove it alongside other stuff they auto equipped on you at the start of the Challenge mode. Therefore you don't have time slow down (giving you the ring with R1) and you can be more aggressive. I tend to rely on perfect parries such well-timed blocks AND well-timed attacks against enemies about to attack. It works on all enemies including strong types. In other words it allows you to choose when to perfect dodge for precision strike counters OR perfect parry with normal attacks and eikon abilities for punishment. On the camera I super agree with you because even in the settings I had the tracking enemy off-screen toggled off and yet as soon as you fight strong enemies my camera stayed on it without me using lock on either. Although it did state it's more geared to taking away auto tracking your next enemy that's off screen I was hoping it was full freedom of my camera usage type of setting. Anyway hope you give the demo another chance after taking the auto equipped stuff off because you'll absolutely feel a COMPLETELY different experience by making choices you want rather than the game doing it for you 👍
@@DeathxNote I did say that 'even with the ring... it's tedious', so it's still tedious without the ring. With the ring it's tedious AND breaks the flow of combat. Why I don't like this perfect dodge mechanics is related to that other issue as well. I just keep mistaking the dash button for the dodge button because in other action games they're usually the same button. So maybe the issue is specific only to me but that's just how I feel about it. I don't know, maybe I'll take another pass at it. The prologue isn't bad, it's the Eikonic Challenge that frustrates me more.
@@MedskiPurnamski Okay I understand now thanks for clearing that up for me. And yeah I understand the dodging concept you touch on because games like Dark Souls heavily stick to dash/sprint and dodging keybinded to the same button. I'm sure once you adjust, if you're looking to keep trying, it'll become new muscle memory for you and might even gain a better time out of it overall. I personally kept using the Phoenix dash to dodge which doesn't really work so I get you. But I also have a heavy background with DMC games so I eventually was able to register R1 is dodge and then everything else just turned into learning the windows of opportunity to do things. So yeah I still stick to what I said about parry. The game has heavy mechanics revolved around parrys more than even dodging gives. But anyway thanks for hearing me out even though I read into your situation incorrectly
What's a Game of Thrones vibe btw? I keep seeing people mention that, Final Fantasy already handled political aspects, warfare, revenge, betrayals, sex and other things we saw in the demo so i have no idea what they mean. Are you all just new to the series and can only compare it to recent things?

From the combat, it looks like they might have been worried about a party being too much to micromanage with the more aggressive combat. Especially with the AI assistance.
@@viralshark Exactly xD though if they progressively expanded it in baby steps across multiple games, I could see sharpening the player base to be able to handle that as realistic. Then we need PVP x)
That's an issue that tales of arise does pretty well. I'm playing it now and in that game you have the 3 party members and the one you're controlling but you can use their special abilities during combat then there's a cooldown
I think ff16 did a good job with their world and their quests tbh. After each major event you get 3 or 4 fairly easy quests that actually add a bit of lore to the area and feel of what's going on in that area for the most part. And honestly it's refreshing not having to mindlessly grind the same shit over and over although I wouldn't have minded that I guess had it been done differently but I think the entire game compliments itself in a unique way.
The one thing is that RPG mechanics barely matter at all when the game isn't open world or non-linear because your stats naturally scale proportionately to those of the enemies in the missions
This game is fantastic, I would recommend anyone play it. I haven’t been a fan of any game in this series, but you had me at MMO🤣 thanks for another great video

Having both is a good balance.
yeah sometimes the open world are too big and we don't know what to do xD. Glad they built FFXVI with large zones filled with contents. Really enjoy the game so far, I even have "Ifrit vs Phoenix" BGM in my ch
@@VentusLionheartye only a few games have actually perfected the open world formula. Like Witcher 3 and rdr2
i just made almost the exact same comment lol totally agree with you, enormous games are so exhausting and i end up not finishing them and i would love to finish the game!!!
What good to note about the Demo is that its not only contain beginning of the game . After you finish that few fist chapters(which data will be tnasfered to full game) you unlock second demo that allow you to play later on scenario to try out more advanced gameplay. Incredible stuff, and its fee
No, it does not. It contains the begining of some chapters in the game and mix them together in logical order. The actual game will start different.
@@KAvanAltenI played two versions of the demo, when he was younger and another when he was older and had more powers from two other summons. If you want to play the second part of the demo you can select it at the bottom of the main screen.
@@KAvanAltenou paid 0 attention to what you were playing. The demo WAS the start. You know this to be true because it tells you that your progress will carry over. How much sense would it make to let us start from where we left off in the demo if we hadnt even done the beginning yet?
Have you played if already than? because the demo is not the first few hours of the game.
@@KAvanAltenI think he’s talking about the eikonic challenge, which I believe, is set a few hours into the story. (I think that’s what it says.)
Garuda's Dominant. And the final cutscene seems to show the moment Clive gets that eikonic power
Love ff7 and ff9 have not got to play the Demo the only other final fnatasy i put on the list of favorites is ff4 , ff6 and of course ff14 which I love sooo much my brother got me into them when I was young by playing the snes versions on 2 player for ff2 an ff 3 where we each could control certain people. An I loved the story most my friends did girl stuff while i loved video games and Transformers TMNT. My Bf likes more gun games an not roleplaying games my question is do I have to have demon souls skill to play this ?
come on,, FF16 is just a boring game,, XII is number 1, XIII is number 2,, ff 7 is just as same as boring as this 16 version,, too easy for everything, even the side quest is too easy to solve
Truly a demo that cannot be skipped on. Just wow….. totally different than just those trailers. The quality is top tier
Yeah, adding a second input for opening doors CANNOT be missed

I see the demo is available and yet I want to wait to go in completely blind!
@@blitzball4lyfe823 the demo covers the beginning of the actual game. There is a part that becomes available after you finish it that's later on but you don't have to do that part. This is the most excited I’ve been for a game in a long LONG time. The demo was perfect and I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds when it’s finally released.
I played the demo, the ending had me in shocked and in tears😭😭 i really feel for clive man
I know right. I was hitting my controller and yelling at my screen do something!!!! XD
@@mrsgamer9218 I hope he gets his revenge
As a plot twist I'm pretty sure Ifrit was Clive. Regardless if this is true or not, the end of that demo had me shook. Can't wait to play the full game.
@@MrMrGuy I was thinking this too. I really hope Clive wasn't Ifrit though. The demo has done a good job at making me care about the characters. I expected it to end how it does but it was a lot more brutal than anticipated.
Unreal how great the character writing is. I am totally locked in and was stunned by the demo.
Great coverage!
I am a long time FF fan but was apprehensive about the combat. The demo alleviated all my fears - it was so much fun to play. They did a spectacular job of getting us invested in the characters and gameplay. Such a strong opening!
Another great video from a great channel keep it up gameranx❤
Thanks, will do!
I really hope so🤞🏼
Have you finished the demo?
@@user-dl8le5cs6t yes the main prologue.
@@gilcorrea283doubt we will play as Joshua anymore since you know…. HE GOT OBLITERATED BY IFRIT 😂
I went from forgetting this game was releasing to being 10/10 hype for it after playing the demo. Absolutely blew me away

I've never really clicked with Final Fantasy, but after playing this demo, I preordered IMMEDIATELY!! Couldn't have possibly had more fun
Probably helps that they got the person who did the devil may cry combat to do it lol
I’m so excited for FFXVI, the demo was so good! Definitely a pre-order worthy game.
Congrats on the baby, mane. Much love 🖤💪🏽
The demo solidified my pre-order of the game. This has the potential to be the best new entry in years.
This feels like the true follow up to ffx that I've been waiting for since I fell in love with that game as a kid. 1 week to go guys stay strong
This plays nothing like FFX...
This looks nothing like X. I assume you mean story. Both begin with a frame. But X frames a story. 16 frames a plot.
What I mean is this is the first game that feels like a final fantasy since then
Two interesting things about the combat I noticed from the demo:
Each Eikon has 4 abilities- 2 special attacks, 1 "utility" (like Phoenix's dash or Titans block) and 1 that's sort of a "counter": e.g Phoenix has an ability that dispels projectiles and fires a shockwave (powered up if you actually countered a projectile)
And despite being full on action- there is a slight "turn-like" strategic vibe to the game because enemies have named attacks that are always accompanied by super-armor, an attack namecard, and often a telegraph
The demo was awesome. Cannot wait to play the full game
The Demo was absolutely amazing! I wasn't sure if I was going to get the game or not...but after that demo, its a must buy! I didn't want it to end.
the demo was absolutely mind blowing, already pre-ordered
👌👍🏼
same lol
Man, Final Fantasy 7R and 16 right now gives me drive to live and work for now. Thanks Square.
Definitely not a disappointing fact that this game isn't open world. Not every game needs to be open world. It doesn't always compliment the game. I like how they did it with this game.
Honestly tired of games being open world all the time these days.
@@NotAverageAfro same, and often it's not even properly executed.
The demo was really good. And honestly, I'm happy its not open-world. Not every single game has to be open world.
People need to realize the franchise is changing, and that nothing last forever. Sick of people saying this isn’t Final Fantasy.
This is the first Final Fantasy I've been excited for in a long time. Definitely in my adult life.
@@Kumire_921 Well there is definitely a ‘game of thrones’ aesthetic to it. The devs even said they made the whole team watch the four seasons as well. Not to mention every newbie today who hasn’t played the old FF’s like tactics automatically compare it to something like or akin to Game of thrones.
They really payed attention to the little details in this game. Even the vibration every time you select something in the menu. Best way to describe it is.. it’s crispy asf.

From the combat, it looks like they might have been worried about a party being too much to micromanage with the more aggressive combat. Especially with the AI assistance.
i constantly forget to issue Torgal one of his 3 commands, imagine having 3-4 party members with full and different ability sets.... yikes!
@@viralshark Exactly xD though if they progressively expanded it in baby steps across multiple games, I could see sharpening the player base to be able to handle that as realistic.

Day 1 buy... THAT IS ALL
The playtime actually sounds very good to me. There are too many games out there that seem to never end.
Exactly, I want a well told story, instead of a story being prolonged by unnecessary/related side quests not related to the main story at all.
I hope for the fans ff16 is good. Not my cup of tea though

Feels like FF14. Its gameplay is what you imagined was happening while playing the ATB style games of the 90's and aughts.
Honestly, Open World RPG is OVERRATED. I want a good story, stylish characters, fun gameplay that ALL I FREAKING CARE!

The last time I pre-ordered a game was when Halo 4 was releasing... This is the first game I'm actually pre-ordering and I very much get the feeling I won't be disappointed at all. It's very clear the insane amount of passion Square Enix has put into this game.
The open world setting seems very refreshing as well, especially for us players that feel open world burnout or don't have enough time to dedicate towards games.

Everyone must complain to Square Enix to add back direct control of party members instead of dumbing the system down for those who find it difficult to even push a button!!!
First time getting into this series. Can’t wait! It was also my first time getting into the Diablo series and I was not disappointed. What a great time for gaming.
Thank God the game is not Open World .
For real, too many games are open world for the sake of being open world, and end up big, empty, and boring
