So happy to see MAX PAYNE 3 get a mention. The aesthetic lifted straight from Tony Scott's awesome MAN ON FIRE, amazing shooting mechanics, and fantastic performances, it is such a joy to play. It and MAD MAX remain on regular replay rotation. CONTROL was also awesome.
I've beaten TLoU seven times and now that I have built my dream PC I will wait until Part 1 goes on deep sale and play it again. It's been about 4 years since I last played it
I just don't say Metal Gear Rising should be on this list because I don't think anyone who started playing it has ever actually stopped doing so long enough for it to need a "revist" due to how much of a GEM that game is!
@@rejectxzit’s crazy how so many reviewers found the gameplay “okay” but to me I found the AI so impressive and the animations are just so top tier and the audio design and just all the little details. I know it doesn’t have some complex mechanics and they just added basic things (like the prone buttons and different weapons and the newer ammo types) but it’s such a good basis for a game like TLOU.
Still have my ps3. Still use it regularly along with the ps5. Beat max Payne 3 again earlier this year. The original assassins creed. Always have red dead 1 downloaded and ready to go on it for whenever it’s time to enter that world again. Ps2 classics had a way better selection on ps3, so i have and am currently playing NFS most wanted 2005 on my ps3. Just think, the best NFS game as of late is the remake of Hot Pursuit, which was a 2010 ps3 title. All these remakes from the ps3/360 era. Master chief collection, uncharted collection, Bioshock collection, most of the ps3 AC games got remasters. Ps3/360 era was the greatest era in gaming ever. The absolute peak of AAA gaming and industrial competition. Online gaming no longer in its infancy but also before micro transactions. Back when Ubisoft WAS on the level of call of duty. When AC was just as hype as call of duty. When Bethesda was early 2000s BioWare level of masterful rpg game design. When BioWare was the BioWare we knew. If it wasn’t a massive franchise like Halo and Gears, or GTA, your next step down was like Sleeping Dogs and Dead Space 1 and 2. The industry was on fire back then. I really hate sounding “back in my days” old like that, but it really hits now how the industry is way more monopolized and you can just feel the drop off from how it was. There’s definitely been a change in the amount of quality games we get. The competition that fuels everyone to do their best. It really does feel missing nowadays.

AC Odessy deserves a spot on here. I know a lot of people hate Ubisoft for going open world, but a lot of us don’t.. and Odessy is the best one they’ve made so far. The “Diablo” style loot the character micromanagement the endless amounts of stuff to do in game. Why the hate for it? Just because they added more to do in the games then just run around assassinating people???? They made some of the best open world rpgs for those that like those kinda games why so much hate? Why do they never get any love? Something against Ubisoft?
Being an older gamer with a young child I've purchased most if not everything on the list and have only finished a few, this video will definitely motive me to get back a finish up more of them.
I mean, yes it is. It's the most depressing thing I've seen, the narrative goes nowhere after the climax and it's not a perfect game. But it's still a masterpiece
My biggest problem with the game is that it is super predictable. Ellie not killing Abby because of Joel flashbacks - saw that coming from a mile away. The plot twist in the first game hit way harder. Joel shooting up an ENTIRE hospital and ruining a shot for a cure because he can’t go through losing a loved one again. That is something that nobody expected
For how difficult this list must have been to make, I think you did an excellent job Jake. No hard feelings here. If I could recommend a few other games to people, it would be a Telltale game like the Walking Dead, Dishonored, or Disco Elysium. Also, I have a good idea for a video: greatest single-player mods of all time. You know, your Cry of Fear, They Hunger, etc., the stuff Pyrocynical raves about usually.
For me: Red Dead Redemption Red Dead Redemption 2 Horizon Zero Dawn Final Fantasy VII Remake Dead Space 2 Batman: Return to Arkham Batman: Arkham Knight Days Gone Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End The Last of Us The Last of Us Part II God of War The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild The Order: 1886 Resident Evil 2 Remake Resident Evil 3 Remake Alien: Isolation I’m missing a few, but these are the ones that stick out.
@@johnnguyen9136 Thank you! Yah children were upset when they killed off Joel. Even though the writing was on the wall at before the game even came out. But the way they told the story, and how they used the parallels between Ellie and Abby was actually really smart. It’s all about perspective when it comes to who’s good and who’s bad. But of course such a complex piece of storytelling was lost on so many immature little kids that don’t know what it’s like to be objective. Honestly though, if they had made Abby this super attractive girl….I’d bet money that the story and her as a whole would’ve been better received. But since they made her such a hulk, I can see how that was annoying for players.

I’d take far cry 5 over 3. I love the map and story so much more. My only issue is the forced capture points to progress in the story. It says you’re being hunted, next thing you know you’re in a forced cut scene being captured.

Surely there should be an Assassin's Creed game here somewhere? I know they got stale for a while but it's still an iconic series that deserves a spot. Maybe in part 2? Either way, great video. Loved seeing Control at #2. Waiting impatiently for the sequel.
Horizon was a good game, but it is not on the level like other open world games on this list, Witcher 3 is better in nearly every regard, allthough it is two years older. Horizon is also quite standard in its gameplay not like BotW, which changed open world games.

2 is the best , 4 is the most boring one , i would rather play valhalla than 4
Metal Gear Rising Revengance will always be my pick
My wife recently pointed out that Red Dead 2 is probably the game I've bought the most. Once on Xbox One in physical form, then when the disc drive died, in digital, then for PS4 to play on my PS5. I want to get it for pc too, but she's like no way, not that I blame her. So instead I bought Red Dead 1 again. lol
Imo, RDR2 is the greatest game ever made, a true masterpiece.
its the game I've spent the most hours on. 6 playthroughs, and level 125 online.
I had the same thing happened to me when I play GTA v too much on the PS3 my disk drive died so I had to get the digital version and then I bought it again later on when on PS4 and then on PS5 I bought it again so I'm like well I mean I bought Red Dead 2 2 but I didn't buy it so many times but you know you have the same story as me buddy
@@partlycloudy9443yeah I know if you played enough of it I got up to like level 252 played from the beta and then when they didn't they stopped updating it and they went back to their GTA v update that instead I said screw it I'm not playing no more
@@thewolfdog123
yes, i hate that R* just abandoned the game.
lve almost completed all the roles online so its starting to become stale, no new dlc. Its sad that such a great game loved by so many just got kicked to the curb.
Im sure we have at least 5 or 6 years before Red Dead 3.
Not like she isn't buying repeated train rides from Jamal and Jerome. But that's what c.cks do
I have a massive backlog to get through so, I’m speed running a lot of these games from these era
Witcher 3 has a surprisingly good story line for a mideaval card game.
Happy Tuesday everyone!
Being an older gamer with a young child I've purchased most if not everything on the list and have only finished a few, this video will definitely motive me to get back a finish up more of them.
Hot take: The Last of Us Part 2 is still a masterpiece to this day
😬
You were manipulated. The narrative offers nothing but shallow and simple manipulations, and you ate them like you were at a buffet.
@ exactly 👍🏻
I mean, yes it is. It's the most depressing thing I've seen, the narrative goes nowhere after the climax and it's not a perfect game.
But it's still a masterpiece
My biggest problem with the game is that it is super predictable. Ellie not killing Abby because of Joel flashbacks - saw that coming from a mile away. The plot twist in the first game hit way harder. Joel shooting up an ENTIRE hospital and ruining a shot for a cure because he can’t go through losing a loved one again. That is something that nobody expected
Thank you for Control game 😁
so many were missed out like crysis, bioshock, dead space, metro, tomb raider, metal gear rising etc
So make your own video....
well, the period this video revolves around is pretty broad
@@dillo408 yea there's a way to change it don't comment clown
Bioshock and the first Crysis game both released prior to 2010
Well no shit they’re not gonna put 100 different games in one video
For how difficult this list must have been to make, I think you did an excellent job Jake. No hard feelings here. If I could recommend a few other games to people, it would be a Telltale game like the Walking Dead, Dishonored, or Disco Elysium.
Also, I have a good idea for a video: greatest single-player mods of all time. You know, your Cry of Fear, They Hunger, etc., the stuff Pyrocynical raves about usually.
Metro series, Days Gone - honorable mentions
a slept on game to come back to is Shadow of War and Shadow of Mordor. those games were fun!
Cyberpunk 2077 is from 2020. It should be on any must play list.
One of my favorite games ever but the way the state it came out in 2020 I understand why they didn’t include it.
i didn't know control was getting a sequel that's good news. the first one was great.
For me:
Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption 2
Horizon Zero Dawn
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Dead Space 2
Batman: Return to Arkham
Batman: Arkham Knight
Days Gone
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
The Last of Us
The Last of Us Part II
God of War
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Order: 1886
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Resident Evil 3 Remake
Alien: Isolation
I’m missing a few, but these are the ones that stick out.
Nahhh you tripping😂😂😂
@ Ok, let’s see your list.
The Last of Us Part 2 here??? YOU'RE BASED
@@johnnguyen9136 Thank you!
@@maxmuller9834 Oh….so no list yourself….?
Funny how it’s always the people that criticize others opinions who are never willing to share theirs.
Pathetic lol
Glad to see Control getting more love. It's so good and more people should play it.
I’d take far cry 5 over 3. I love the map and story so much more. My only issue is the forced capture points to progress in the story. It says you’re being hunted, next thing you know you’re in a forced cut scene being captured.
Ruined the game for me in FC5. Everything else was great even if the game formula was lazy. It was fun.
FC3 was good but I never liked the college bro cast.
same
ahh yess Mass Effect 2
play that game like thousand time, i just love it
Hello? Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Sleeping Dogs. L.A. Noire, Mafia 2.
Max Payne 3 was ok,but did feel, at least for me 80% cutscenes 20% gameplay.
This is Jake's list and it shows. They should have done the list with everyone from Gameranx instead
Far Cry Primal an Sunset Overdrive are some of my favorites in this decade...so many more as well
Is Car Fry Primal better than number 3?
I HAVE TUTORING AND I HATE MY TUTOR
Hey tutors suck sometimes but good job, I'm proud of you
Toot on the tutor
You mean 20 games still on my backlog I need to play.
Botw, sekiro, rdr2 and witcher 3 are my personal favourite games.
👌
I feel like I know what botw is but I can't figure it out rn
@@chip5617Bring Out The Women. It’s a game about feminists in the early 2000s, fighting against the patriarchy and gamer_gate. It’s an open world game where you beat enemies by accusing them of crimes and triggering them, with the overall goal to stop the wage gap.
@@chip5617breath of the wild
I obviously know all of these games, but haven't played most of them, actually. I think I can only play the games from this video in the next ten years, and enjoy it!
I still remember the ride back from Mexico in red dead redemption. That game was so epic, the fact rockstar one upped themselves with rdr2 just shows how awesome they are at storytelling
Feel so lucky to have experienced most of these incredible games back when they came out. They just don't make stuff like this anymore
Sad but true.
Quality is rare these days.
Surely there should be an Assassin's Creed game here somewhere? I know they got stale for a while but it's still an iconic series that deserves a spot. Maybe in part 2? Either way, great video. Loved seeing Control at #2. Waiting impatiently for the sequel.
Woooo gameranx falcon and Jake are awesome y’all the goats
My all time fav is Days Gone 😊
I love the list but not mentioning Bioshock infinite 😔
Happy Resident Evil 7 made this list it brought the whole franchise back to form and is so far the scariest out of the series. Really enjoyed it
No Horizon Zero Dawn?!?!
YOU MONSTERS!!!!
Horizon was a good game, but it is not on the level like other open world games on this list, Witcher 3 is better in nearly every regard, allthough it is two years older. Horizon is also quite standard in its gameplay not like BotW, which changed open world games.
Control was one of the best games I've played. Perfectly made you feel incredibly powerful by the end and gave an unsettling vibe
Cyberpunk 2077 should be here
they constantly bash cyberpunk still for the launch or at least falcon does
@abethebabelincoln7960 one of the best games ever now
not the 2020 version...
It's one of my favorite games now but when it lunched it definitely a dumpster fire. Pumped they fixed it though and liberty city is hands down one of the best add ons that's ive played 🤌
Why? It's barely good
Don't love that you topped the list with a reboot, but most of the list I can appreciate, even if some of the games aren't my cup of tea (For one, I have zero interest in ever playing any Dark Souls game.) I particularly appreciate the inclusion of Control. That one always seemed underrated to me, and I was glad to see it get its props.
I was a bit pissy that Elden Ring wasn't mentioned, until I realized that it only applies for games up until 2020. Great list, as usual, Jake.
Glad you liked the list!
There are still plenty of fromsoft games in the list, so it's ok.
I can’t say I enjoyed all of these titles but what a decade! I’ve been playing video games since the early 80s and many of my all time favourites are on this list.
Control doesn't deserve #2
If it wasn't for FFVII Remake, I would put it #1.
@@flipsolo
you think Control is better game than Red dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3?
@@takh6806 this isn't in order, looks like you're new here.
Yeah, this definitely isn’t in any order. Liked Control but it wouldn’t be in my top 20 personally. One particular sequence would be in my top gaming moments though ;)
@@spidervike189 yeah, should've Kingdom come Deliverance, Sekiro and Skyrim rather than Control
Max Payne 3 is such a great game even today
The last of us needs an alternative storyline where Joel doesn't die.
Or maybe just play something else if the story isn't for you
@bretthake7713 no I really liked the story for the most part except where they hoed Joel.
Exanima.
I'm weirdly obsessed with this game. Physics-based dungeon crawler. Ruthlessly difficult, but immensely satisfying when you have a good run.
Cyberpunk deserved a spot
it says up to 2020. and cyberpunk has to many flaws especially in progression, cyberware and perk balance, stupid enemy ai and the level scaling.
The airport in Max Payne 3 is fantastic. The music makes it but damn is it a great gaming moment.
first lol
Damn. I'm old. I would've sworn half these games came out last year. 😅😅
