The base 18 STI had the option for push to start/keyless entry. I have a bare bones 18 STI and honestly don't feel like I'm missing anything.

From a performance aspect I'd grab a base all day every day. But I have a 2015 Limited and I do enjoy the leather and moon roof it just makes the inside a nicer place to be as a daily driver.

Pretty awesome how Subaru’s hold their value. I had an 06 before my 15 and like you I got pretty much what I paid for it 3 years later.

I got my 21 limited because I wanted the top trim for the final ej as well as some of the features. I wanted the blind spot monitoring it definitely comes in handy, I do like the moon roof this is the first sedan I’ve had where I can still wear hats without my head touching the ceiling. The HK sound system is very nice, the Recaro’s are very comfortable, also something they don’t tell you at the dealer on the limited trim the short throw shifter comes standard even though it doesn’t say it on the paper work. found that out when I tried to add it after the fact.

I got a 2020 base, limited is cool and all but why am I paying 2000+ for things I could easily do half the price. I guess you could say that for any car but the bare minimum for me was an STi base. Everything is keyless now. The gap just started coming closer together.
Buy what you want! If I didn't want to upgrade my car or performance, I would have gotten the limited and settled with it.

Sunroof was the kicker for me with buying the limited

  • @LEVELMotorsports

Base 2021 for me. The base stereo sucks, but I HATE sunroofs and the base doesn't have one. The cool thing about the 2021 STI is that the stereo only does stereo things, not car things - unlike most cars now, so I'll definitely replace it and run external amps like back in the day. I LOVE the fact that I can do this, which I haven't been able to do in my new cars for years, since every manufacturer is integrating everting into the stock infotainment. In fact, I can't believe that aftermarket head units even exist in 2021. I was actually surprised to see how cheap the Recaro STI seats are on eBay. Whole sets, shipped, for $1200. NUTS. If you want the Recaro seats you can get them cheap, and you don't have to mess with the weight of the non-removable moon roof and the complications when going aftermarket stereo stuff with the factory H/K stereo. If you just want to leave it stock and if you want a moon roof, Limited is the way to go. If you're a modder and you don't care about a sunroof (I'd never add an aftermarket one of those to any car), base STI is the way to go. That being said, if you're spending $39K, $41K isn't that much more. Buy what makes sense for your use case.

I got a 19 STI limited last year brand new, theres several reasons firstly where i live its smoking hot in the summer, so sunroof works and idk about your weight point because they both give you same performance from the factory, also knowing every thing i could do to the car from factory i got it done thats the real benefit of getting the limited. The harmon kardon audio, the android auto oem unit etc.

Back in 17, I got the base w/no push start/HK. I found it easier to bargain with dealers! I had to get it as cheap as possible to be smart! The limited level was always marked up so much! I have never regretted it! I think at the time it was 8k cheaper maybe more :)

I have some experience on this issue cuz my bro and I bought 2011 sti's. His Limited trim only had sunroof, BBS wheels and leather seats compared to my base and he paid around $3K more than me which makes same HP/TQ imho doesnt justify the cost difference.

Once again we are of like mind. I bought my Base 2015 WRX with the specific goal of modifying it. Although I could never replicate the DCCD transmission of an STI I could with other primary aspects. I now basically have a 2018 STI RA using the FA platform with decent fuel economy. Plus I had the fun of selecting all the parts necessary to make it happen!

Maybe the leather was different on the previous gen but I have a 13 STI Limited with 58K on it and the leather is mint. Also the leather doesn’t feel slippery when cornering either. Then again I’m used to terrible corvette c5 and c6 seats and that leather sucks, feels like you’re sitting on an ice rink
