When a Subaru enthusiast like me sees someone caring for their older STI, it makes us feel good about the future. We these cars get riced up or blown up far too often and it’s annoying. Now people have perpetuated the myth that the boxer 4 is unreliable. It’s worked for 30 years and suddenly now people think it’s unreliable. It usually happens when someone flogs the rev limiter and skips basic maintenance then the car breaks and they hit the forums screaming about how bad Subaru engines are.

I love how this video is produced, it shows a lot of passion about these cars which goes a long way. As a 2005 sti owner myself, I would have to agree that getting a 2nd car as a daily would be ideal. It is hard and expensive to find these cars stock and with low mileage and with that brings more risk. It is a Subaru, it will have problems over time like any performance-based car. I've had my 05 STI for 4 years and I can't imagine not having it. They are not the fastest cars in the world but they bring an experience behind a wheel that I have yet to find in another car. I agree with you on getting the older one. I absolutely love the white one you have. Problem I see is trying to find one thats in great condition and without having it be a money pit. Another angle is with 2021 being the last version of this gen of STI, they may even appreciate. The driving experience is probably more raw and even better for a driver in the older ones, but for what the STI is worth compared to other manual options in todays current market, still think it is an amazing vehicle for what you get if you are truly a driver. I have a 2019 and trading it in for 2021 white STI and the last gen. looking at it as a fun daily (won't mod except a catback potentially) and as a potential investment that may appreciate. I’ve had a very similar experience, I’ve wanted a Hawkeye since they came out, when I was in middle school. But by the time I could get into one, it was becoming harder and harder to get one. In New England it’s almost impossible to find one that isn’t poorly modded or rusty. I’m not in a position to deal with that right now. Those who have good examples are either keeping them or asking way over value in resale. I’m happy with my 2017 STI but I’m determined to restore an 05-07 one day.

Just picked up a '15 sti pro tuned with cat'd down pipe and borla exhaust. It was either the best worst decision of my life or the worst best decision of my life. It seemed to be a balance of a little more fun without sacrificing too much reliability. I love the old ones and hopefully someday I'll have it as a second car, but like you, I need something more reliable while I learn more about these cars. The '15 is my daily driver and I have 4 kids to tow around :) Great video, man.

I have wanted a STI since i was a kid and finally at 32 we paid off a lot of debt and my wife woke me up and said "look what Alex has at Toyota for you." It was my dream car. WRB STI with the gold wheels on it. I was so happy the i cried when my wife said we could buy it. Me being on the autism spectrum it is hard to show raw emotion but it broke me. Finding a good STI (and owner) of that generation is the hardest part, at least down in here Australia... Thats how I ended up with a 2017 STI.
