I would strongly suggest you re-secure those bases using an adhesive like 4200 on the bottom, and chamfer the holes so you don't get cracks propagating into the gelcoat in the coming years. 4 screws with no backing plate isn't going to take a lot to pull right out. It may not happen this year or next year, but in less than 10 years the screws are going to give trouble. Once the adhesive sets, it holds the part not the screws.
I would add the windows to your side curtains as you originally planned. One of the beauties of being out on a boat is the feeling of freedom. The big panel of canvas makes the deck feel "boxed in". 🤓👍
What comes through from all your videos is you always seem happy, even when things go a wee bit wrong, you stay smiling, sure Emmas editing takes out all the oh FFS :) Havea great summer.
A small tip for beginners when using your new clears a layer of salt crystals develop when out on a summer day. Don't be tempted to write your name in it with a finger. Ask me how I know, :( , my son would be reminded every time we visited the marina.
Protect those plastic windows! From my own 32 yrs boating experience, they will discolour, go cloudy and crack if not protected from the sun. I have always had the canopy maker fit roll up blinds on the outside of the window made from the canopy fabric. Held at bottom with 2 press studs and when rolled up a couple of straps hold them up in the roll at the top of the window. Even more important to cover a zipped 'door' which puts more stress on the clear plastic as its opened and closed that much more often.
With my 40ft boat, we found that rod holders exert a lot of lateral stress, and rip out screws, so we used bolts with a plate on the underside. Maybe your rods and fish are smaller than in NZ :))
Lemonade from lemons! A new and better canopy to replace the one that blew away. I love the "Home Edit" style colour-coded bins for storage. So fun organizing. I am looking forward to that stage of the shed build as well. Wishing you and your family lots of enjoyable summer days out on the water, G & S.
Best thing about Borika is that it's Ukrainian. However, I would strongly suggest you adhere them to the boat rather than rely on the screws, fiberglass will slowly tear over use, so having a larger surface area of tension will lessen the wear and tear.
For your side windows of the windshield return, I'd recommend making them out of Markalon (brand name). It is a near rigid plastic that is more like a glass window than clear vinyl. Since you don't remove those often, they don't need to be rolled up for storage. I have them on my sailboat dodger and they are fantastic!!
Great job by JAKE especially coming on bank holiday to fit them. 😊 what a guy and he enjoys his work you could see the passion he has for it and a brilliant job of the new covers Well Done that man. 😊 The new attachments are excellent making the Ship more user Friendly over all and the Cup Holders just epic probably add $10000 to the Value just there. 😅😂😊 Keep at it. 😊
Did you consider over drilling those holes for the rod holders, filling with epoxy and redrilling the right size for the screws? Will stop wooden core rotting out if you get water infiltration.
I was actually thinking that might have been the plan when he started drilling holes into the boat and was surprised there was no comment about it . I am not at all a handy person but feel I have seen this done before.
@@Dave5843-d9m The holes are drilled slightly oversize, then filled with thickened epoxy. After it has set and been sanded, the correct sized hole is drilled into the epoxy. Standard practice on wood and fiberglass boats.
Not the most technical measuring I’ve seen! But obviously work! Titan Boat Covers use a really cool piece of equipment to produce a CAD drawing design, so that if you damage a panel it can easily be reproduced
Hi Both, sorry to hear your canopy decided to go flying, always sothing happening LOL. Can I ask why you are fitting out Boutari for fishing, is that other (awesome) boat you kitted out for fishing out of action?
gemma tupperware I notice you stood them up, what about a small bit of velcro glued to inside of the hull and a bit on Tupperware container would stop them bouncing around
Would it be possible to buy bigger containers which fit into that space more tightly and than put your Tupperware containers into them ? For instance in rough weather they’re not flying about
Get some sticky back velcro, put one side on the boat and the other on the bottom of the tupperware. Make sure you don't get the super industrial version, you'll never get the container out.
Those deck fittings want a complete layer of something like Sikaflex 291i on the underside, so water can't get under them. Just trying to seal the holes, you'll trap water under the plate. Continual exposure to salt water will break down basic sealants and allow water ingress into the deck core. I don't think Tiger Seal is rated for salt water use? If your deck core is in good condition, you don't want to be damaging it for the sake of a tenner's worth of sealant.

those tupperware containers, the rattling might annoy the shit out of you. Did the same sort of thing, you could work out something with bungies. Or what I went with was velcro on the bottom and on one side between it and the boat
I have a passion for silicone spray lubricant. It dries very quickly and doesn't attract dust and grit. Usually I wouldn't recomend using a "wet" lubricant in locks but I've even used it in locks and switches without issue.
See, here's the major difference between the UK and The US---OUR "cup holders" do NOT have that slot-and-strap for a TEA mug's handle--ours are all about tall COLD drinks (smile)
Sticky backed velcro on the bottom of the cereal boxes might help keep them in position as the boat bounces about under way. No more drilling holes in the hull unnecessarily. If they dont work out just pull the velcro away. It should stick to the Gel no problem, the plastic too.The canopy looks great. Windowd in those side panels would be very useful mooring stern in on a day the weather is nasty.

I think you have totally bodged the fitting of those fittings. The holes have sealant in them but water will find it's way into the wood core. Not today or tomorrow, but longer term. These fittings also stress the gel coat and pull on the whole area when loaded during use with fishing rods, causing cracks. The fittings need holes drilled out bigger than the holes in the fitting, filled with epoxy, a backing plate glued in place, then bolt holes drilled through the epoxy and the backing plate, then four bolts of correct size used in place of the supplied screws. You don't care though as this boat is a temporary toy for RUclips added content in the few years ahead when work on Sarinda is ongoing.
