Congratulations. Great feeling tying up at home after that trip. Tiara makes a great boat. 32 open owner for several years. They handle beautifully. You’ll find maneuvering in close quarters easier than you think and docking a piece of cake. Idle and shift in and out of F & R will spin on a dime. Can literally navigate port and starboard with throttles alone no wheel. And nothing like a beamy Tiara wake. Good luck.
Thank you Richard for taking care of Simon and Emma on their first big journey! What a life those pilots must have led, on the one hand so isolated, on the other hand taking over the care of the big ships and bringing them safely through.
Always a thrill on the first long trip. I did a maiden 200 mile voyage with my boat last year in March from Long Island to Delaware. Stopped in Atlantic City overnight and won some money to offset the fuel. The first day was 30 knot winds and 6 foot seas. Quite an introduction to motoring on the ocean.. The second day was sunny and calm. Even saw a whale. A lifetime memory. Glad your trip was safe and pleasant. Good luck.
I'm so happy for you! Getting Boutari was superior decision. It enables you to be on the water and enjoy the boaing life while you work on the labor of love that is Sarinda. You're also honing your skills in preparation for Sarinda's launch and operation. It was bittersweet watching this video. I once owned a 32 foot yacht with flybridge and twin screws very similar performance to Boutari. Was gas engines and used on the Erie canal system and finger lakes in NY USA. From my marina I had actual access to anywhere in the world by water. I could travel in the Great Lakes and St Lawrence Seaway and the Hudson River. I miss it very much and watching you on Boutari flooded back memories.
Simon & Gemma, What a great trip Never seen the sea so calm,So pleased to see the boat run so well . and fuel consumption sound good too!! Brought back memories!! I've done the same trip twice (once Power Once Sail) but in the other direction from DICKIES at Bangor to Pwllheli. When we had a Merry Fisher 805 based in Dinorwic we did quite a few trips to Llanddwyn Island and also the otherway through the Swellies up to Puffin Island and a trip around Anglesey, thats one you should do!! Also sailed from Deganwy a few times once around Anglesey and once to Ireland . Coming back into Conwy at night was a challenge trying to pick out the Buoy lights from the lights ashore!!!
Bravo guys....what a relief. I could see the pleasure and relief on your faces too even with the frostbite!. Fabulous clam/bright day to pass through some stunning parts of the UK. Makes you feel glad to be alive. Two out of three of your boats serviceable now....at least it isn't all work now.✌
That passage was extraordinary, you couldn't have had better weather or sea conditions than that, you deserved it after all the previous trials and tribulations. Brilliant video well done you three.
I am so pleased for you good people. You have worked so hard to make this dream a reality. Congratulations on your first successful and uneventful passage with Butari. I wish you all of the best as you make many more happy memories. Your friend, Steve J ♥
What a stunning voyage. The Menai Strait railway Britannia Bridge (the arch one) was built in 1850 by Robert Stephenson using wrought iron box girders. It had a timber and pitch roof which caught fire in 1970. The steel arched replacement carries road and railway. The suspension bridge was built by Thomas Telford and opened in 1825. It’s the world’s first suspension bridge. Almost 200 years old. Wow! There’s some serious history up there.
Congratulations and really well done to all 3 of you. The editing on these videos has also been First Class and after all the trials and tribulations your hard work and perseverance has paid off in spades. Now I hope you can enjoy both boats and their different demands and pleasures. 👍👍👍
Wonderful, I enjoyed that so much. I was born in St. Asaph and spent my first 36 years in North Wales. I've been in the US for the past 30 years now, and this made me feel so homesick. I know those waters very well! Mind you, it's a lot warmer here off the coast of North Carolina. Cadwch eich pen uwchben y dŵr!
Beautiful, beautiful journey... I have been following you since the beginning but this trip was my favourite part. The sea state was so calm, the sun was shining and there were no other other boats to bother you. I am so looking forward to your docking video, this is something that's bothered me for a long time. Our boat, a 26' single engine cruiser was almost impossible to steer at slow speeds. It had a strong Volvo diesel engine mated to a duo prop. As soon as you engaged gear, the props dug in and off you went, it just made life impossible, especially is a tight marina. Because of this we sold the boat which was a pity because for the most part it suited us well. I definitely think your setup will give you pin sharp control but it will be interesting to see how you master this crowd pleasing skill.... Just love what you are both doing.
You both look tired, but so happy. All that hard work and overcoming mechanical obstacles on Boutari were so worth it. Boutari will be a great "learning boat" while you continue to fix up Sarinda. Thanks for sharing both journeys -- Sarinda and Boutari -- with us.
So lucky the weather was ideal for your 1st voyage, flat and still. That boat looks absolutely gorgeous in the water, I am not surprised there was little movement she was designed to be a boat of luxury. 👍
Top buzz, well done. Autopilot? Open the book of manufacturers instructions and see what they have to say about initially setting the system it up. Go through the process of resetting all the recommended values on a calm day. First make sure there is no ferrous metal near the internal/external compass. A little tip if you will afford me. When you come away from the boat, take the transom plug out of the tender and then lower the transom fall to leave the punt inclined as best you can. Rain watter tha knows, rain watter.
going to say it again, so happy for you guys, the boat is awesome, and what a maiden voyage! Congrates on all your work and success. As always looking forward to more content.
Really great. It is delightful to see Simon's excitement (justified). You have really done a superb job with Boutari. Let's see if Sarinda can scrub up as well. Congratulations.
I doubt you could have had a more beautiful, if chilly, day for your transit, how really fortunate you are. Godspeed in your lovely lady, may you always have fair winds and gentle seas.
Great job guys. Don't think you could have picked a better day. Great to have Richard (?) on board for advise. Looking forward to the next installment.
Maybe a fix for the glove-fingers-on-screen issue would be to get a stylus with a string attached, like those pens in banks and such, that would be at hand when you need it but dangle out of the way when not? CONGRATS at home!
You're lucky; US charts don't notify you about the change between Red and Green rules! I've never seen them anyway! Lovely to see you fledglings spreading your wings! This is just the beginning of a whole new life! Congrats!
What a stunning trip you had , your maiden voyage perfect weather calm water and minimal hassles and having Richard with you , The wise one , all the best from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
Amazing, calm weather and beautiful scenery. What a perfect day. Hopefully, the slight issues are an easy fix. I'm glad you're home safe and ready for more adventures.
Imo, you may want to check the heading feedback sensor for your autopilot. From your description, replacing that part may solve the problem. Well done, looks like you chose a perfect day to cruise the Welsh Riviera. Great content, now get back to replacing ribs and stringers 😃
Brilliant! Loved it. You guys are something special, how you sorted the vibrations and all the other jobs, great.what a perfect day to make the trip. The filming and the music, just great .
This is amazing, I'm so happy for you both. We live on a canal boat and I work as an inland waterways boat mover, but what you have, and the possibilities it gives you, this is the dream for me. Hope you enjoy every minute! X
After cleaning and repairing all the small problems and inconveniences on our 70's Pacemaker, we had Felix build a tube frame to enclose the open rear deck and got a cover with roll up sides and screens made. When rafted up, our boat became the hang out in very sunny, rainy or buggy weather. The roll up panels allowed a breeze on nice days and we could still fish...
-6 🥶🥶 -2 worst it gets in Geelong freezes the bird bath solid into a skating rink. But Boutari looked a real sight sitting on the water ☺ In 'er element, you might say. Good value Richard, 'his area' what he don't know about 'his area' probably isn't worth knowing. 10metres 32.8084ft, nice shallow draft on Boutari. Nice place your Home Port. So how long did it take, to get home? 20:56 by vid, 4 hours real time. Nice! Hope somebody picked up your ride to the other Port. Rippa Richard came too. Thanks m8s and Richard, stay vertical Eh!
You have my admiration. Wonderful video, I smiled all the way through the video. Engines never missed a beat. Boat is fabulous. I did my training for Coxn in the Menai Straits many years ago so seeing your passage through the straits was a bonus for me. Lived in the South East of England for the last 33 yrs and miss the Wirral and North Wales so much its painful.. Following you closely on Sarinda and love the back drops of Thurstaston/Dee/North Wales.
What a trip, calm seas, crispy clear sunny weather and the snow on the mountains in the distance, it makes all the hard work worth it. Doing something like that for the first time is a real adventure well done. Now, what's next?😂😂
So a very good run, that made you very happy and we could see on your faces that as the journey progressed confidence knowing things were going well. Richard is great person to help and teach he is so easy going and that calming manner rubs off on to you both, Congratulations on repairing everything so well. Ed 40 S of Vegas
It's nice for you two to have an enjoyable video to show without a bunch of strenuous work. You more than deserved it and I can tell by the big smiles on your faces that you're more than happy with the outcome that you've created. Very impressive. Thanks,
Hey what a great first trip, i live in New Zealand and used to get out most summers around the North island. Sea like glass perfect conditions and breath taking scenery to rival what we have here! It is amazing what is on the door step of most people living in the UK. Love it and makes me miss home to be honest ha ha.
1/2 way thru the video ole girl seems to be running like a real champ. Worth all the hard work and money invested going to be a great summer coming up with the family. We'll done you two .....
Thrilled for you all that you had such a good trip. A huge reward for all the hard work you've put in. Loved seeing the smiles all round and Simon so relaxed after being hyper vigilant listening and looking for problems. Look forward to seeing the next adventure!
Fantastic guys. Loved the scenery. Very relaxing video. Practice anchoring, mooring and in and out of marina in wind and current. That’s where all the stress comes from. Plus getting in and out of the boat / dinghy. 😊 take your time. There’s no short cuts, only quick breaks. 😊
Congrats on coming home. I was watching live on Marine Traffic who were probably wondering why a couple of hundred people all over the world were watching a little pleasure craft in Wales. That was a beautiful day for passage making and the boat is sitting perfectly on the water and throwing a lovely even wake. It may have been a lot of work but you ended up with a lot of boat for (comparably) not much money.
What an absolutely brilliant video, Just watched your journey on my 65 inch tv and the scenery looks awesome, Really glad you had a safe and enjoyable journey, well done Gemma and Simon, all your hard work and determination has paid off, just wait till your out sailing sarinda, even bigger smiles... Well Done 👍👍🛥🛥
So amazing to see her finished and moved home after seeing you both at end August as I was getting my new boat ready for transporting back to Isle of Wight. Amazing videos.
@ShipHappensAdventures she in the water but no where near finish. Just waiting for the spring weather to start playing. After meeting you both in the boat yard it was so nice see how friendly . Only 18 months before I'm back in North Wales when I sail around Britain just for a bit of fun.
The first couple of runs will be nerve wracking but once you’re experience goes up the more fun you will have. Geez does she ever fly, awesome vessel you guys.
You got this and its well deserved to have such a beautiful weather for the journey. Planned and executed to military precision and a joy to enjoy with you. Thank you for the effort and the tears they are all part of the work you put in. Happy Christmas and be safe be warm and Crack on

This is the one I have been waiting for. Next on my list is to see Sarinda circumnavigate Anglesey.
Be awhile before we tick that off the list!
Oh yeah! And the D Day anniversary on station in the channel?
You're lucky; US charts don't notify you about the change between Red and Green rules! I've never seen them anyway! Lovely to see you fledglings spreading your wings! This is just the beginning of a whole new life! Congrats!
Well done bears, you've done the work so reap the rewards..and to see your wee happy faces, is just a joy..more power to your elbows 👊👏👏

What an incredible day! Perfect for the voyage
Had flashes of you doing that same passage in a much bigger vessel. Looked serene and not shake in the hull. Well done guys. Can't wait to see more.
Thank you so much. I love being afloat and I love this part of N Wales. Sat here in Portugal I am now so homesick and it’s high tide around my eyes.
I know you wanted to “play” on the Boutari this summer, and you weren’t able, but I’m so happy for you on this day!
Great weather, very good trip.
Good to see you having a paper chart available.
Congratulations guys that was a great first trip with many more to come .
That's a lovely boat, with plenty of power. Great weather too!
