I was a few miles upstream with a caddis pupa and that same 18 pt. also read you regulations Gallatin river is 1 line with 2 hooks per line same as most of the central district
It was very clear water and I could see the fish at times! I can see why they chose this river to film a River Runs Through It back in the early 90s, though it is way too crowded nowadays to do that, LOL. The highway behind me felt like I-5 in LA.
Looks like you had a good day with some hefty fish for that river. In 2022 I fished the Gallatin inside the Park mostly. Fishing was good, but the biting flies were out in huge numbers and any exposed skin was attacked by them. They even got under my glasses. Bob Jacklin told me that he quit fishing one day due to these nasty bugs.
Great video PD! Beautiful fish combined with incredible looking water and scenery... I have to get out there someday. Hopefully gas prices go down soon haha!
Luckily all the rafters/kayakers were very courteous that day. I think part of the reason why is because in Montana every other fisherman has a gun on them, LOL.
love the vids! quck question, do you typically put your heaviest fly first in your euro rig? that appears to be whar you were doing here if I'm not mistaken. I have always just used my heaviest/point fly at the end of my euro setup, just curious your thoughts or pros/cons? thanks!
Thanks Jacob 🍻 I prefer to have the heavy nymph on the dropper/first fly, though it seems most people like it on the point/bottom fly. In general, Lance Egan I believe prefers the heavier fly on the dropper and Devin Olsen likes it on the point so it can be more of a personal preference for most situations, however shallow water it is better to have weight on the dropper and for deeper water, on point.
Heavier fly on point gives you better connection to both flies and fishes two different depths in the water column. Heavier fly on the dropper fishes both flies in the same column, but you have less connection to the point fly. I prefer heavier on the point and if it's shallow I only fish one fly or dry dropper on euro leader

I'm so jealous getting to fish so many great Rivers while I'm stuck packing. I hope we get to meet up and fish when you come back down.
For sure! I plan on fishing the McCloud and upper Sac this Oct 🍻
River looks great! Hope the water temps stayed down for you. Beautiful.

Great video PD. I'm kinda jealous. You're fishing all over haha. Thanks for showing us all of these amazing waters.

I haven't tried the section inside the park though it looks great while driving by it on the road.
Sweet video man! Awesome to see you fishing some of my favorite water on the river. New subscriber here, keep it up!
Thanks! I liked your channel & subscribed 🍻
I'd love to fish that with that kind of CFS. I was there in early July and it was crazy big still.

Thanks Tim! Gas has finally gotten below $4 here in Idaho (at Costco). It has been so painful each time filling it up this summer!
Once a raft passed over a good fish I was reeling in... It cut everything.
