Spent last summer camped on the Gallatin river at the Forest Service Heliport in the canyon. Worked for the Forest Service and spent a lot of afternoons fishing on Gallatin. Caught some nice browns and rainbows. Love the time I spent in Montana.
How things have changed... Bud Lilly's Fly Shop changed hands and is now Big Sky Anglers. I believe the new owners are/were guides. They bought the shop in 2016. There was another fly shop across the street ( Arrick's ), which closed after the new owner bought the building and increased the rent ( or lease ). Blue Ribbon Flies ( BRF ) is under new ownership as Craig Mathews and John Juracek, the original owners moved on. BRF doesn't seem to have the same focus as before. They used to be the place for great fly tying supplies. Thankfully, some of the old crew ( e.g Bucky ) are still there and they do have some very experienced guides. I think, of the old timers, Bob Jacklin is still around and working. I saw him last year. He started working for Bud Lilly some 50 years ago or so and then he opened his shop under his own name.
The respect you show for the fragility and life of the fish is something I hope to pass on to my boys!
Good mix of tips and entertainment

Just getting back into fly fishing, I live about a mile from the Gallatin. Thanks for the video.
Double hauling helps when dealing with the wind, and it minimizes false casting.
Love fly fishing!! Awesome video!
Bravo.
Sits back and sips coffee as instructed, didn't catch any fish though

does anyone know what year this was filmed?
Believe it was 2004, some years ago
