Jamie Monks more personal achievements than both of them combined , 2nd most goals and wasn’t put in a already world class team, while Liverpool was a team being built from the ground up on a relatively low budget and finishing 8th most seasons to success , Gerrard had more of an impact than the other two and was the more talented footballer

Ok. If he was so good at passing, how many assists did he have? Look at Lampard numbers. If you also take into account the goals then it's not even a discussion. Lampard miles ahead of both.
@@williamlillicrapp7601 stats and awards mean jack shit when talking about scholes he wasn't that sort of player he controlled the game and made football look easy.
Scoring goals isn’t the top priority of a midfield player. Scholes controlled the game and you could pass him the ball confidently knowing he will never play a bad pass and do something special if ever an opportunity arrises. The consistency he did this with was unparalleled to me which is why Scholes is the best out of the bunch in my opinion.
Jaime going on about big game goals. Paul Scholes scored that wonder goal against Peps Barclona to take Man Utd into Champions league final. He also scored in a Fa Cup final to help Manchester United win the treble. He also came out of retirement and helped Fergie win his final title at the age of 38. Scholes and Gerrard were done by their early to mid thirties.
Scholes scored the winner in the FA Cup final, and a banger in the semi final against Barcelona, and won 11 premier league titles, 11 more than Slippy G
Iniesta : " Without doubt, my biggest regret in Football is not playing with Paul Scholes. He's 5 now, and every time i look at him he reminds me of that day at la Masia." - settles it
Neville is 100% right for me. Scholes was something different. He controlled the game, pulled the strings and had a wonderful technique. You can rank Gerard and Lampard where Gerard is always nr 1 engine and leader in the midfield.
@@tomparry12 They are all different - but in my opinion Scholes tops the list. Scholes was without a doubt the most technical out of the three. Good technique is what I believe is the most important attribute a midfielder must have. When you think of the great midfielders of the past - xavi, Iniesta, yaya toure, viera, zidane, KDB etc.. (I know there are more but you get my point) all these players were technically brilliant. although lampard and Gerrard were good they weren’t the most technical of footballers - they were the typical English player who worked hard, did the basics well & had a mean - accurate long ball. Gerard was hard working, a true leader. He was brilliant defensively - could have been a defender easily, had a great shot, and read the game well. His presence and aura on and off the field was essential to his team. lampard was a revolution in that he made goal scoring from midfield fashionable. His positional awareness was second to none, it’s no accident that he always seemed to be at the right place at the right time. Like Thomas muller he read the game in the final third so well that he Kept getting into positions that would allow him to either create chances or score. having said this Gerrard and Lampard didn’t have the technical ability to be true string pulling midfielders that most great midfielders tend to be. Gerard had alonso & guys like cotinho to do this and lampard had ballack & deco etc.. with scholes he was the man - pulled the strings and had the technique to create something from nothing - in the tightest spaces. Be it by dribbling or finding a pass in the most unlikely of circumstances - he had it all. a big reason why England failed - (among others) was the lack of technical players. Although in 2006 England had a great squad their best players didn’t have the technical players around them (as they did at their clubs) to truly flourish. players like scholes were actually very un English. Which is all the more impressive considering he still managed to make it up the ranks and become a true PL great!
@@tomparry12 all I am saying that Scholes was more technical and he was more suited for European football. He was better than both as he could adapt himself and was more consistent

I'm a Chelsea fan, but Scholes hands down. Any player that can dictate the tempo of the other 19 outfield players on the pitch is a genius. Obviously the other 2 were brilliant players though in their own right.
Paul Scholes was without question the greatest Midfielder England had for the Last 25 Years! Easily in the Top 5 Midfielders in the World! But I have respect for both Gerrard & Lampard as well! Could you Imagine if Scholes, Gerrard & Lampard were in a 3 Man Midfield for England during Euro 2004 & World Cup 2006? Possible Team (2004-2006) 4-1-2-3: Robinson, Neville, Ferdinand, Terry, A.Cole, Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard, Walcott, Crouch, Rooney Subs: James, Carragher, Bridge, Carrick, Beckham, J.Cole, Owen Mentions: Campbell, Brown, Hargreaves, S.Wright-Phillps, Heskey
I don't think Lampards number of assists gets the credit it deserves, stayed at the highest level for a number of years, finished second to Ronaldinho for the ballon do'r and once the most valuable player. Gerrards made countless errors in big games, back pass against France which led to a 2-1 loss, the own goal against chelsea in a cup final, the infamous slip and the back pass to Drogba in a 2-0 loss in 2010. Scholes is simply unique, controls the pace of the game something only a few players of that calibre can do, Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta and Pirlo.
Alonso, xavi, iniesta and pirlo are margins ahead of scholes. SAF tried to replace him with Veron and that says alot. He was a great player don't get me wrong, but he's never won Toty, player of the season for man utd either, he wasn't even the best midfielder because man United's playmaking came from the wings. Gerrard and lampard were serial contenders for ballondors. Gerrard being in the Toty 8 time. Lampard and Gerrard are astronomically higher in the podiums compared to scholes in every category. Please stop this.
Part of the reason why people dislike Liverpool fans even when they were not a threat for 30 odd years is that most Liverpool kept re-iterating that their players were the best in the world. Like an illogical broken record.. year after year.. it was so annoying.. When Xavi, Zidane the best players in that position say Scholes was the best.... do you think the opinion of a liverpool defender is important?
I really don't think Liverpool fans or Jamie Carragher have said that for the last 30 years with the exception of Gerard. Many Liverpool fans concede that man united had a better players when they were winning all the trophies years ago. What do you even on about?
Scholes was one of the most important engines in since he came through the youth in Fergie’s team until he retired, the amount of leagues won puts him a cut above the rest, yes he was surrounded by quality but he still shone as absolutely unbelievable, Gerrard was a close second and Lampard 3rd
1. Gerrard - The most complete midfielder out of the 3. Could score like Lampard, could peng a ball like Scholes, could defend better than both, scored screamers for fun, better leadership, Scholes and Lampard had the advantage of better players around them. Gerrard had to carry some really shit players on his back and won trophies on his own.
Sir Klopp Gerrard had a midfield of Mascherano and Alonso and still couldn’t win a prem title. They are uncomparable. Scholes is comparable to Xavi and Iniesta, Gerrard isn’t.
RiiDGE exactly, that team in the mid to late 2000s had Torres, Mascherano, Alonso, Arbeloa, Reina, Carragher, Hyypia, Kuyt and Crouch. All of them were world class or close to it and scousers and media spread the narrative that gerrard played in an average team as if he had to carry them.
Areesh Kirmani was Frank Lampard or Paul Scholes ever called the best in the world by Zidane, or one of the best by Thiery Henry? Let alone Gerrard has won more individual awards, more Ballon D’or nominations than both of them. Gerrard was the better player. If Gerrard left Liverpool for Chelsea, he would have won everything, during the 08/09 season, Gerrard still scored 16 goals with 11 assists, only Torres had more goals.
Alexandre Bray Xavi and Iniesta have stated that Scholes is the best midfielder of the last 25 years. Pele said he was better, CR7 said he was better (biased yes but still), messi said he was better, even arbeloa who was gerrards team mate said scholes was better. Pirlo didn’t get nominated for ballon dors and kante did, does that mean kantes better than pirlo? obviously not.
Carragher never lets Neville finish. He's always wanting to prove him wrong which tells me his ground shaky to begin with 'Gerrard clutches the big games' I remember him clutching us the title when he slipped and let Demba Ba through, thanks Stevie. No bias from Carra either with Stevie being a Liverpool player an all that.
Scholes all day. He’s the Ultimate. All 3 are insanely good. Gerard carried that middle of the road team for years. Lampard scored 20 goals 10 TIMES! On fantastic squads! If anything, people don’t give Lampard enough credit. They usually banter on about about Scholes and Gerard

3.25 from this moment Gary goes on rampage and each and every thing he said is 101%true . I remember Andreas Iniesta said once that when he was at la Masia the most frequent name they herd of any player or midfielder was only Paul scholes. And when xavi was asked about who is the best midfielder he had ever faced without any hesitation he said Paul scholes, after ucl 2011 final which Barcelona won xavi goes to scholes to ask for his shirt. Once Pirlo said that his biggest regret was that he never had played with Paul scholes 4.01 he is very very annoying done nothing in English squad and dude has noly player 38games for England from 1999-2010 and missed a penalty.

"My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder. Scholes is undoubtedly the greatest midfielder of his generation." - Zinedine Zidane. Enough said
United fans have been banging that drum for year's and he said it after he retired but that doesn't take away the fact that Scholes was one the best midfielder's in the world for a time he was quality
"Is he the best in the world? He might not get the attention of [Lionel] Messi and Ronaldo but, yes, I think he just might be," Zidane said. "If you don't have a player like Steven Gerrard, who is the engine room, it can affect the whole team.
Unbiased Arsenal fan, the way I see it they're all different types of CMs. All very equally gifted, if the top 6 were all given the chance to have one of those at their best they would pick different players based on what they lacked, that's how even they all were. Liverpool would take Gerrard, hes the most energetic Klopp style player. City would take Scholes, very Guardiola player, him and De Bruyne would just dictate the game. United not really sure, with Fernandes and Pogba there if a third one would work, so maybe a direct swap with Pogba for Scholes or maybe Gerrard who would be better for getting more goals. Spurs no clue really maybe Scholes to try and control the game a bit more. Chelsea probably Lampard as they lack goals from midfield, maybe Gerrard as has more energy, no need for Scholes particularly. Arsenal I would almost certainly take Lampard for the goals alone, were struggling to find many goals at the moment and he would be essential for that.
All three different types of players. This pains me to say but Scholes was probably better with how SAF used him then Gerrard for me and then Lamps. But put all of them on their other teams and I don't think any debate would be brought up.
Teey 1 You’re pointing out exactly what I mean without realising. He won less major trophies than Scholes and Lampard since he choose to be loyal said no 3 times when Mourinho called. If you want to compare individual honours however, the other two doesnt come close to the best ever English midfielder.
Roy Keane Sorry my French but only dumbnuts like you wouldn’t realise it’s far more impressive to carry a weak Liverpool side to a European trophy against AC Milan, than play a small role in an already great Manchester Utd or Chelsea side.
I am die hard Chelsea but Scholes is a footballer's man he was an absolute genius on the ball and probably the best player to wear an England shirt since gazza
1. Scholes, 2. Lampard, 3. Gerrard. In 2004 Eriksen got it wrong. He should have kept Scholes in the middle in the 'regista' role (which he had already proved he could do at elite level) and played Gerrard on the left (not his position but he was good enough to have done a job there). Scholes was the best English player ever in that deeper central role: long passing, resisting pressure and laying off the ball, controlling tempo and volleying, shooting from outside the box. Ok, Xavi and Pirlo were probably even better at some of these, but Scholes was a composed finisher in front of goal too! Headers, chipping the keeper, side foots in the corner. He started as a striker and it never left him. I would say these 3 were the best ever England midfielders of any era along with Paul Gascoigne and Bobby Charlton.
If the conversation was who was the best goalscorer, lampard and gerrard are above Scholes, its who was the best player and Paul Scholes is the most naturally gifted midfielder ever in the premier league.
He did give a fair assessment after that but you were too busy writing this asinine comment. Since when did goals become the only barometer for a MIDFIELDER?
@@shrey9699 Carragher did give a fair assesment but he mainly pointed out the goals both Gerrard and Lampard came up with in big games and they both did. A diamond with hargreaves as the pivot gerrard and scholes im front and lampard furthest forward would have been one of the best midfields of all time.

Also the best in big games and moments which is proven by the stats - everyone says it was Gerrard because he played for Liverpool but it is Lampard if you look at the facts. Lampard is the 4th highest scorer in the quarter, semi and finals of the champions league, above the likes of Rooney and Lewandowski and he has the third highest number of match winning goals in premiership history, only below Shearer and Rooney. He never let Chelsea down with big misses or fouls or mistakes, never missed a big penalty for Chelsea. He controlled matches for Chelsea just as much as Scholes did for United it just gets overlooked because he was a Chelsea player and people only remember his goal scoring. Scholes and Gerrard get all the attention because Liverpool and especially united dominate the media, I mean, just look at this panel lol. If Lampard played at united or Liverpool he would be talked about as the best midfielder not just out of these 3 but of all time just with his statistics in goals and assists. They dwarf most all time attacking greats let alone central midfielders. The man has more goals and assists than Ronaldinho in a more difficult league ffs. Zidane said Gerrard was better than Messi and Ronaldo during his prime. These quotes mean little. Most people saying Scholes aren’t old enough to remember him play and base their opinion on those quotes. Scholes by his own admission saw himself as an attacking midfielder, both Gerrard and Lampard were better than him in that regard. People’s opinion of Scholes has been completely revised since Barca’s tiki taka football lifted the game to new heights. Because Scholes played in that style people equate him to being that good, on reflection he was world class in possession and passing, mediocre to poor in terms of tackling and capable of world class goals although not having a massive return on them. He was a world class player but he was not a God like some of the kids make him out to be.

Scholes and Gerrard were done by their early to mid thirties.

Neville is 100% right for me. Scholes was something different. He controlled the game, pulled the strings and had a wonderful technique.
You can rank Gerard and Lampard where Gerard is always nr 1 engine and leader in the midfield.
@@tomparry12 even when Gerrard had a good team he could not do it
Akshat Betala wha u on about we had a good team in Istanbul an he carried the 2nd half especially at the start

Scholes for the comparison and Neville for the debate.
"You'd come home from England trainin', people'd ask you who's the best player? Paul Scholes by a mile." Enough said.
Explains Gerrard's UCL
Alonso, xavi, iniesta and pirlo are margins ahead of scholes. SAF tried to replace him with Veron and that says alot. He was a great player don't get me wrong, but he's never won Toty, player of the season for man utd either, he wasn't even the best midfielder because man United's playmaking came from the wings. Gerrard and lampard were serial contenders for ballondors. Gerrard being in the Toty 8 time. Lampard and Gerrard are astronomically higher in the podiums compared to scholes in every category. Please stop this.
The only correct answer to this is: 1. Scholes 2. Keane 3. Carrick 😂👍🏻
If only Liverpool had beaten Swansea.

1. Scholes, 2. Lampard, 3.

Lampard was easily the best. Most goals, Most assists, best overall defensively. @@mrred5417 well I talk to a lot of Liverpool fans and they say the same thing that Scholes should not be compared to Stevie and Lampard. They only go on stats
@@akshatbetala2813 He shouldn't though. He's a completely different midfielder. That's why its normally Gerrard vs Lampard. Comparing Gerrard to Scholes is like comparing Gerrard to Xavi. Two legends of the game two different styles. Its also why a Gerrard Scholes partnership would have been brilliant for England.
3 of the greatest midfield players ever have all said Paul scholes is the best midfielder. Greatest being (xavi, iniesta, zidane)
Gerrard’s passing was on par with Scholes, his shooting ability was arguably better and he had the indefinable quality of leadership and being able to turn games in Liverpool’s favour when they had no right to. A big game player scoring in the Europa league, Champions league, league cup and Fa cup finals. He was wanted by both Chelsea and United at a time when they had Lampard and Scholes respectively. He could play any position to the highest level, a generational talent and one that doesn’t get the respect he deserves.
Gerrard then Scholes then Lampard.
Scholes by miles. You don't win 11 Premier League titles by accident.
Can’t judge a player on trophies mate
Rhys Carter you’re on crack
@@haroldinhoo1655 I'm not. That's just one of my reasons. His vision, passing, goals, assists, and the fact that so many great players and coaches say he's the best.
@@jimmykray9583 Says the guy with a seagull as his profile picture 🤔🤷♂️😂
Rhys Carter still not as good as Gerrard and Lampard
Scholes is a pure baller, no one like him
The other guys had amazing teammates throughout their career but Gerrard carries Liverpool for almost 2 decades when they could have easily been a forgotten entity
That argument doesn't make sense. It's harder to shine in a team of great players than a team of average players
The legendary scholesie. GNev bringing the facts
Xavi said scoles would walk into any bacelona team zidane said gerrard would walk into any brazil or any intenational team not many players bang on about frank lampard
Yet hes scored more goals than both of them...
Oh yeah, Paul Scholes as a player was streakes ahead of Lampard, Scholes should be getting compared to players like zidane, xavi and pirlo.
Harrison that means nothing, like Neville said Scholes was a holding midfielder, not a natural goalscorer, and Gerrard was a CAM but eventually moved into CM and then CDM, whereas Lamps stayed at CAM his whole career
None of them trained as well as lampard. He wasnt as naturally gifted as any of them but topped them both in goals and assists. Stayed fitter for longer periods too. Nobody likes to talk about the hard worker, the talk about the guy more pleasing on the eye.
@@veerickpatel7634 Scholes played at United under Sir Alex Ferguson there is no question that he trained and worked hard
Impossible debate really, because as G Nev points out, they really were completely different players.
Depends on 1) who you support, and 2) what sort of midfielder you value.
