I started to make a rogue like top-down shooter in 2020 on godot. I finished map-generation, player movement and mechanics, one enemy sprite all i had to implement was shooting mechanics. So while in the middle of debugging, power went out my computer shutdown when i tried to reopen a scene again all the code in the .tscn file displayed NUL. Last week i found the gd script for the game tucked away in a pendrive and realized that i can' t even recognize my own code and have gotten stupider over the course of 2 years. Yesterday i reinstalled godot along with git version control. Gonna try to finish at least a playable version of it before the new year . Keep developing your game, it keeps you sharper and i love your work.
Coding is definitely use it or lose it kind of skill; I notice myself saying the exact same thing when I look at some of my code from the past "damn I really was smarter when I wrote this" LMAO. Congrats on getting back into it, it's a really hard thing to do to go back when you know you're starting from a worse position than you were in. And thank you man. :)
