It's crazy because before his audition people always told him he sounded like Freddie and he wasn't really a massive queen fan so didn't know much about him

Thank you for posting. I think Brian and Roger could give Marc more credit. It won’t take away from Adam. I watched that full interview when it was broadcasted 8 years ago. Loved it.
Personally, I like Marc Martel over both, Paul R. and Adam L. Yes, he sounds like Freddie. His vocals were used and merged with Rami Malek for the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. That, and the likeliness of the actors, is what made the movie GREAT, as well as reincarnated Queen for a new generation of fans! NOT Adam! If I were to go to a Queen concert since Freddie's passing, I would prefer to hear the familiar sound in vocals of Queen, similar to what I grew up listening to, as opposed to the cheesy "Vegas act"(which ONLY Freddie could pull off) of Adam, or a "Tribute type concert" by Paul, that would only remind me of Freddie's passing. Can I get an Ay-Oh?

Queen is making a big mistake now not taking Martell. This guy is a literate incarnation of Freddy. Tour with him would be just epic. Till then, I prefer Martell's gigs over Queen nowadays.

New album ? with new songs ? See, thing is everyone is talking about who sounds closest to Freddie, but let's not forget that apart from his voice, Freddie was a pretty darn great composer. Since his death, how much new material did the remaining members do ? Pretty much nothing. So unless that album has Freddie's songs on it, I don't see the others come up with enough and good enough songs for an entire album
I don’t see another explanation to why Marc wouldn’t tour with Queen other than Brian would feel that it’s the Marc show as opposed to the Queen show. Marc would out shine them. That’s why the tour with Adam (Having said this no one is ever going to be Freddie)
Both Brian May & Roger Taylor have said that when they were looking for a singer they DID NOT want a Freddie clone because it would be too weird for them to hear Freddie but look over and see someone else on stage. They chose Adam because he does a good job but also has enough of his own sound & tone. Having a Freddie copycat singer would have been a bit of a freak out factor for them. Marc is the hands down closest to Freddie i've ever heard. Has the inflections , tone & breath control.
@David Thanks for your comment. I agree with you. I don't think Lambert lovers understand that Marc could easily steal the show. They don't want that happening.! I get it. What I don't get are those who genuinely think he does a better job with the voice than Marc does. It's quite clear in the videos. ✌️👍🎶☮️
I think Lambert had a much wider following than Martell, and all his fans became Queen fans overnight, some who never heard of Queen before. So I think it was a marketing trick, to appeal to a larger fanbase.
I don’t think Marc is trying to be Freddie. I think this is what Brian was afraid of. He was hesitant about Marc because he didn’t want a “Freddie replacement”. He wanted someone to be a part of Queen who could do their songs. That’s why they picked Adam. Adam is too extreme in my book. Did you see his performance of “Somebody To Love”? It looked like something that would be performed at a gay bar, with feathers, high heels, and his character. To me it was unbefitting of how Freddie would have wanted it to be sung. Believe me I am not anti gay. But, I felt this was out of place. I believe Marc is capable of being a part of Queen without giving the impression of being there to replace Freddie. He would be a good fit.
its stupid to not want a freddie replacement dont you think thats what the queen fans want. something close to authentic? and hes def not trying to be freddie. listen to his covers of other songs from seal ect.. and he still sounds like freddie. its just his natural voice. he said the entire queen thing wasnt even his goal the chance just presented itself and people liked it so he went that direction. in music you got to take whatever chance you can get to make it because it aint easy. i have a friend whos dad is in the country music hall of fame (not a singer) and he says chances like mark got only come to aa select few
No one can replace Freddie Mercury, but this guy is about as close as you can get and even looks a bit like the 1989 version of him from *The Miracle* album art and for that I would love to see *Queen + Marc Matel* team up and put together some sort of *Miracle* and *Innuendo* tour that the band *may* have done in 1989 and 1991 [and a few from *Made In Heaven* ], singing songs that have never been heard live such as *I Was Born To Love You* , *Breakthru* , *Headlong* , *Delilah* , *These Are The Days Of Our Lives* , etc. I am not sure what everyone else thinks, but I think that'd be epic. He wouldn't be in any way replacing Freddie [Let's face it, no one can lol], just reprising the role of frontman like Adam Lambert. *Innuendo/Miracle at Wembley* would be a live album I'd buy.
No matter how hard they try there will never be another Freddie Mercury. His talent, charisma, and magic can never be replicated. EVER! Keep Freddie's legacy alive.
marc martel didn't imitate freddie it's just his real natural voice it sounds like freddie and he can sing like freddie i bet you didn't know marc martel.

@@Ezekielepharcelis Well, they have heavily invested into Lambert and the QAL setup. Also, they want to be the stars of their own show, prove they can do it without Freddie. Can you blame them? IMO it’s their show and their choice. Seen them once. They are just clocking in. Much prefer Martel’s idea of Queen, rather than Brian’s.

@@papabearM3 To an extent, it's okay if someone looks at what they did or said years ago and thinks "that wasn't very nice or smart of me, and I disagree with that now." But to your point, neither Brian nor Roger have come back on their comments regarding Marc: that he is talented musician with an uncanny vocal resemblance to Freddie Mercury, and like Brian said in this video above, that they know Marc isn't trying to be like Freddie. I would imagine that during the 2 days of rehearsal for that "Somebody to Love" performance in April of 2012, with Queen Extravaganza, that Brian and Roger had opportunities to hear Marc singing over and over again, and would be able to "spot a fake" if he was impersonating or if he wasn't singing in a natural way, as anyone's voice would tire throughout a full day of singing in rehearsal. Marc just has a vocal timbre that has some similarities to Freddie's.
Freddie Mercury was and will always be Queen and the greatest frontman of all time but why can’t we just enjoy Marc who does a wonderful job and really does sound very similar to Freddie? No one will ever replace Freddie but Mark’s not trying to.
Hence the fact that where they didn’t have enough of Freddie’s vocals for the movie they used Marc because he has a similar vocal range naturally close to Freddie’s . Freddie had a four octave vocal range from a baritone ( his speaking voice ) right up to tenor
This Marc guy is pretty great. He doesn’t QUITE sound like the reincarnation of Freddie Mercury, but... He’s way better than Adam Lambert, imo. Adam is too slick & polished to ever be Queen’s frontman. Marc, OTOH, is as raw & full of heart, almost, as Freddy Mercury was. I’d like to listen to Marc, again.

All the people saying “There is only one Freddie” Yes. You are correct. Also, there’s only one Marc Martel. Marc Martel performs Queen songs that Freddie never did live. Freddie also changed melodies at times because he blew his voice out a lot. Watch ANY live Marc Martel video. The guy NEVER changes a note. Did Marc write the songs? No. Can he sing them more consistently than Freddie? Absolutely
I think the people defending Marc are not saying replace Freddie or better than. Like myself just believe he's the best performer to do the show. There are many Elvis, Beatles, led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd,etc. Acts. They are there to give us an experience we will never really have. So why not get the best to do the job. In this case Marc is clearly the one. Regardless of what reason Brian chose someone else. Marc does a great show of his own.
Even though I agree with you, I think Marc would outshine the other members, as he has that stage presence to captivate the audience as well. Marc not only sings and writes his own songs, but plays five different musical instruments. Six if you include the kazoo. It would be interesting if Marc ever sings the Queen songs in French, since he is also bilingual. Edit: People should be aware and I am sure Brian and Roger already know, Marc singing the Queen songs actually bring in more new fans to spread and listen to Queen's music.
@@alanguages Accordion, bass guitar (not just acoustic or electric guitar), ukulele, dobro, glockenspiel, drums (although Marc will say that his form is not great on sticks, but he can play something like a cajón with no issues)... to add to your list.

I can't digest the reason given by May and Roger opting for Lambert over Marc Martel. After all, people are still crazy about Queen mainly because of their nostalgic feeling about Freddie. May be they wanted to prove they are more than Freddie. For that they should come up with a big hit song without Freddie's touch. Sadly they couldn't do that. Only option left for them is to continue with the huge treasure Freddie left for them. To recreate Freddie magic to some extent, Marc Martel was the best choice.
Although, I appreciate Brian & Roger’s comments about Marc Martel who is a good singer no less .... there is only one Freddie Mercury!! The character, texture, vocal range, passion, genres, and most of all emotion that Freddie’s voice brings to music is unmatched. Freddie sings every song with a passion as though he wrote it, lived it, and experienced it!! And we know that Freddie wrote a treasure trove of brilliant songs & sang another treasure trove of songs written by his own Queenmates!! Hmmmmm - I think Brian & Roger miss Freddie terribly. 😟
Brian and Roger hired a non-musician Lambert to replace Freddie. Safe to say they are trying to prove they can succeed without Freddie. And as far as Freddie’s unmatched voice, lady!... Here is Martel marching Freddie’s every vocal characteristic and adds some (or he wouldn’t be singing for Freddie in the movie!), and all you can do is focus on some fable that Freddie’s voice is unmatchable! Why can’t you appreciate a talent that improves upon the master? Wow!

@@papabearM3 totally agree with Debra Moore, Marc may hit the notes but lacks in the other Freddie qualities including stage presence, character, passion and emotion. You are correct that Brain and Roger would like to think that they are sucessful without Freddie - hey but lets not forget Freddies writing ability. When was their last hit written - even the songs that were written by other band members also had Freddies input (according to his roadie). To many Freddie is still unmatched - we all have our own opinion and preferences :)

Stage Presence, character, passion and emotion are all in abundance in his performances. You actually need to see him perform live to make such outrageously libeling claims. I agree that Marc is not Freddie, but he is not trying to be Freddie or anything like Freddie: any resemblance is purely serendipitous! Marc pays musical tribute to Freddie and his genius. Marc ALSO writes pretty phenomenal songs, just like Freddie. He is a stronger musician and singer than Freddie was. But Marc is full of reverence and respect toward Freddie while singing Freddie’s studio versions live (something Fred could never do). I think Freddie deserves to be honoured by someone like Marc, a pro, a fantastic singer, musician and performer, and a brilliant songwriter, someone who is Freddie’s equal, but not his impersonator or a clown strutting the stage in a crown a la Freddie. Also, no one would EVER invest in a large tour built around a talent who has no charisma, stage presence, whatever it is you claim Marc doesn’t have. And Marc is booked 2 years in advance, large arenas. I have seen him live 3x and personally witnessed people next to me crying moved by Marc’s voice, I have seen chicks screaming, “OMG He’s so hot!” and have been pushed away from the stage by crazy fans trying to get closer to Marc. Martel is like a magnet on that stage. People pour toward him just to touch his hand. AND he always finds time to greet his fans who want to say ‘hello,’ even if he is exhausted after 2+ hours of running around that stage like a whirlwind. I myself am a skeptic, yet I felt like a kid at his first rock concert (I have been to many!), couldn’t stop smiling, screaming and singing along, much like thousands of people around me. Marc is an incandescent star. SIMPLY INCANDESCENT!

Well here I am back at this video in wonder. As much as he sang one of my favorite Christian songs("Let me Rediscover You") and my favorite Queen cover artist(sorry Adam Lambert); BUT I think he could be the next Superman; I mean look at the piecing eyes and jawline line alone.
So the QUEEN really admires Marc! I guess my question is, when will they do at least one concert with mark: QUEEN + MARK!....Thats what all the fans are waiting for! :-)

Not only is Marc an amazing vocalists but he is a world-class musician and songwriter as well. Christians should definitely check out his former band, Downhere to see how phenomenol that band was.
Obviously it’s telling when these two will not entertain the thought of using Marc in their band. And I think it goes back to them and Freddy, something isn’t right with them and Freddy in a musical sense.
Freddie was clearly the main creative force behind Queen the band, it is now even more evident 30+ years later after his passing. Not to take anything away from Brian, Roger and John, all three are legendary musicians and songwriters. But yeah, the driving force was Mr. Mercury.

Marc's mom wasn't familiar with Queen until her son started singing this music. And she would have had to travel outside of Canada that particular year. Queen's tour stop dates in Montréal don't work out so well.
And still we can’t have Marc even do a guest appearance with Queen for a couple songs while on tour. Who’s feelings are we trying to spare anyways? I think the crowd would go wild hearing Marc sing w/Queen.
@@papabearM3 He looks and sounds so much like Freddie Mercury when he sings, I imagine that it would probably be a bit too jarring for them (It certainly is for us as their fans). There really is no one who can replace Freddie Mercury, however, Marc Martel's phenomenal voice and mannerisms may be a bit _too_ close for comfort. It would be impossible for the fans (and probably even a few band members) to NOT see Marc Martel as a Freddie Mercury replacement, even if that may not be his intention. I imagine it would be too much of a heart-breaking reminder, or perhaps it may be viewed as a tad bit disrespectful to his memory to bring on a carbon copy and make him the front man. Hell, John Deacon left the band and fell off the grid completely after Freddie's death, and he has no desire to ever return. Freddie's death hit him particularly hard. But judging by the BoRhap the movie, their hearts are hardly in it as they wouldn’t have demanded equal on-screen time for themselves were their intentions aligned with your assumptions. All their actions, their rhetoric and their concerts are focused on THEM, not Freddie. Yes, they sing his songs, but they present them as Queen songs, not Freddie’s. They use his image for LOML but it is to highlight Brian’s tears he “sheds” at every concert as in “I miss you Freddie.” However, Freddie’s musicality is being slowly erased by Lambert who (a non-musician mind you!) insists on reimagining the wheel Freddie invented AS IF this karaoke singer can actually come up with better musical choices than such consummate musician as Mercury was! SMH And the worst of all, Maylor claim that Adam “can do what Freddie couldn’t,” which is preposterous to say the least. May have done great disservice to Freddie’s memory replacing him essentially with a karaoke singer and has the gall to claim Adam is better than Freddie. I do think it pains May to have someone like Martel to front Maylor’s band. And it’s not bc Marc reminds May of his dear friend or bc fans would disapprove. Queen fans LOVE Martel. He sells arenas all over the world and without Maylor. And Marc is phenomenal, a beast of a musician, vocalist, songwriter and frontman! A beast! Someone who - were he to front Maylor - would upstage them in a heartbeat! He is young, strong, a savvy musician, and that voice! Man! Maylor don’t stand a chance! And for May that is distressful for sure as he fancies himself to be the King of Queen. So, I think it’s very much a self-serving choice for Maylor to not hire Martel as the entire world is practically begging them to do, but to stick to a whatever-of-a-vocalist so that May specifically and Taylor secondarily can be the stars of their own show. But it IS their own show, and they have all the rights to sing with whomever they choose.

Тем самым его каверы и отличаются от всех других, тем что он не только на равных с Фредди по всем параметрам, но и , не пытаясь походить на Фредди, абсолютно походит на Фредди, особенно в концертах. Он создает иллюзию, что Фредди все еще жив. Но, вы правы, не многие даже знают, что у Марка более 100 оригинальных песен! Он, также как и Фредди, писал и пишет классный материал! Но народ требует Квинов, как будто свет клином сошелся на них. Но я думаю что это от части потому, что Фредди был великолепен и дерзок, и все, что напоминает о нем хоть как-то становится востребованным из-за ностальгии и, часто, из-за того, что фанаты Фредди жалеют, что не видели его в живую. Имидж Фредди продает абсолютно ВСЕ! На этом, кстати сказать, Мэйлор и зарабатывают массу бабок на данный момент. На ностальгии по упущенному шансу увидеть Фредди воочию и на всяком г**не, которое они продают с Фредди на обертке. Марк зарабатывает концертами, как все проф музыканты. Но на концерты музыки Квинов идут гораздо охотнее, чем на концерты оригинальной музыки. Все без исключения банды поют каверы. В этом нет ничего плохого. Некоторые поют плохо, а другие поют их с вдохновением. Марк поет Квинов с вдохновением. При всей его похожести на Фредди, вдохновение - это большой плюс. И концерты его передают дух Фредди. Я видел это воочию. Конечно хотелось бы услышать оригиналы Марка, даже если в перемешку с Квинами, но концерты Марка - это дань уважения Фредди, и я думаю, он, будучи очень скромным человеком, просто не решается поставить свои песни в одну программу с «великими Квинами». Хотя песни Марка просто классные, и музыка и лирика, и не чуть не уступают песням Квинов. Он вообще дает Квинам проср**ться, извиняюсь по всем пунктам. Но это другой разговор.

Поэтому абсолютно все песни, которые он поет, без исключения, звучат как-будто сам Фредди записывает в студии. У Марка более подвижный голос, чем у Фредди, и это позволяет ему использовать более широкий живой диапазон нежели Фредди. Поэтому кажется, что Марк поет другим голосом. Если Марк берет ноты вне рабочего диапазона Фредди, то у вас возникает ощущение, что он поет другим голосом. А на самом деле вам просто не с чем сравнить.
@@genesis5347 Well, I don’t know if they are ruining Queen. They are not. I think they are very self-focused in their renditions though. Their show is not about Freddie or Queen, it’s about them asserting their own personal place in rock music. Granted, it is THEIR show, and they can do whatever they want. Also, no one knows what they really think: even when they do speak, it is hard to believe they speak their mind - it all sounds so scripted.

This would be a great interview if only some sound technician could sort it out, the different languages all being shouted at once spoil it completely, yes there will only ever be one Freddie and I loved him dearly but Marc Martel is wonderful and if Brian and Roger want to continue as Queen they need to have Marc as their vocalist and not Adam Lambert who is ok but Marc fits the bill in my opinion

Thank you for posting. I think Brian and Roger could give Marc more credit. It won’t take away from Adam. I watched that full interview when it was broadcasted 8 years ago. Loved it.
Personally, I like Marc Martel over both, Paul R. and Adam L. Yes, he sounds like Freddie. His vocals were used and merged with Rami Malek for the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. That, and the likeliness of the actors, is what made the movie GREAT, as well as reincarnated Queen for a new generation of fans! NOT Adam! If I were to go to a Queen concert since Freddie's passing, I would prefer to hear the familiar sound in vocals of Queen, similar to what I grew up listening to, as opposed to the cheesy "Vegas act"(which ONLY Freddie could pull off) of Adam, or a "Tribute type concert" by Paul, that would only remind me of Freddie's passing.

Last night I bought a CD at Marc's show that is him and his band singing Queen songs!
New album ? with new songs ? See, thing is everyone is talking about who sounds closest to Freddie, but let's not forget that apart from his voice, Freddie was a pretty darn great composer. Since his death, how much new material did the remaining members do ? Pretty much nothing. So unless that album has Freddie's songs on it, I don't see the others come up with enough and good enough songs for an entire album

The first time Roger and Brian heard Marc sing live in person, they cried. I thought that both sweet and heartbreaking.

Both Brian May & Roger Taylor have said that when they were looking for a singer they DID NOT want a Freddie clone because it would be too weird for them to hear Freddie but look over and see someone else on stage. They chose Adam because he does a good job but also has enough of his own sound & tone. Having a Freddie copycat singer would have been a bit of a freak out factor for them. Marc is the hands down closest to Freddie i've ever heard. Has the inflections , tone & breath control.

I think Lambert had a much wider following than Martell, and all his fans became Queen fans overnight, some who never heard of Queen before. So I think it was a marketing trick, to appeal to a larger fanbase.

I don’t think Marc is trying to be Freddie. I think this is what Brian was afraid of. He was hesitant about Marc because he didn’t want a “Freddie replacement”. He wanted someone to be a part of Queen who could do their songs. That’s why they picked Adam. Adam is too extreme in my book. Did you see his performance of “Somebody To Love”? It looked like something that would be performed at a gay bar, with feathers, high heels, and his character. To me it was unbefitting of how Freddie would have wanted it to be sung. Believe me I am not anti gay. But, I felt this was out of place. I believe Marc is capable of being a part of Queen without giving the impression of being there to replace Freddie. He would be a good fit.

No one can replace Freddie Mercury, but this guy is about as close as you can get and even looks a bit like the 1989 version of him from *The Miracle* album art and for that I would love to see *Queen + Marc Matel* team up and put together some sort of *Miracle* and *Innuendo* tour that the band *may* have done in 1989 and 1991 [and a few from *Made In Heaven* ], singing songs that have never been heard live such as *I Was Born To Love You* , *Breakthru* , *Headlong* , *Delilah* , *These Are The Days Of Our Lives* , etc. I am not sure what everyone else thinks, but I think that'd be epic. He wouldn't be in any way replacing Freddie [Let's face it, no one can lol], just reprising the role of frontman like Adam Lambert. *Innuendo/Miracle at Wembley* would be a live album I'd buy.

But to your point, neither Brian nor Roger have come back on their comments regarding Marc: that he is talented musician with an uncanny vocal resemblance to Freddie Mercury, and like Brian said in this video above, that they know Marc isn't trying to be like Freddie.
I would imagine that during the 2 days of rehearsal for that "Somebody to Love" performance in April of 2012, with Queen Extravaganza, that Brian and Roger had opportunities to hear Marc singing over and over again, and would be able to "spot a fake" if he was impersonating or if he wasn't singing in a natural way, as anyone's voice would tire throughout a full day of singing in rehearsal. Marc just has a vocal timbre that has some similarities to Freddie's.
Many years have passed since this. With much more experience about Marc their opinion can be different now.

I think the people defending Marc are not saying replace Freddie or better than. Like myself just believe he's the best performer to do the show. There are many Elvis, Beatles, led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd,etc. Acts. They are there to give us an experience we will never really have. So why not get the best to do the job. In this case Marc is clearly the one. Regardless of what reason Brian chose someone else. Marc does a great show of his own.
Marc, to put it simply, is one of the best vocalists *currently alive* to honor the music legacy of Freddie and Queen.
Even though I agree with you, I think Marc would outshine the other members, as he has that stage presence to captivate the audience as well. Marc not only sings and writes his own songs, but plays five different musical instruments. Six if you include the kazoo. It would be interesting if Marc ever sings the Queen songs in French, since he is also bilingual.
Edit: People should be aware and I am sure Brian and Roger already know, Marc singing the Queen songs actually bring in more new fans to spread and listen to Queen's music.

I can't digest the reason given by May and Roger opting for Lambert over Marc Martel. After all, people are still crazy about Queen mainly because of their nostalgic feeling about Freddie.
May be they wanted to prove they are more than Freddie. For that they should come up with a big hit song without Freddie's touch. Sadly they couldn't do that. Only option left for them is to continue with the huge treasure Freddie left for them. To recreate Freddie magic to some extent, Marc Martel was the best choice.

Brian and Roger hired a non-musician Lambert to replace Freddie. Safe to say they are trying to prove they can succeed without Freddie. And as far as Freddie’s unmatched voice, lady!... Here is Martel marching Freddie’s every vocal characteristic and adds some (or he wouldn’t be singing for Freddie in the movie!), and all you can do is focus on some fable that Freddie’s voice is unmatchable! Why can’t you appreciate a talent that improves upon the master? Wow!

Of course, we all have opinions. But facts remain. And the fact is Marc doesn’t lack anything. He lacks literally nothing other than a better manager, perhaps. Stage Presence, character, passion and emotion are all in abundance in his performances. You actually need to see him perform live to make such outrageously libeling claims.
I agree that Marc is not Freddie, but he is not trying to be Freddie or anything like Freddie: any resemblance is purely serendipitous! Marc pays musical tribute to Freddie and his genius. Marc ALSO writes pretty phenomenal songs, just like Freddie. He is a stronger musician and singer than Freddie was. But Marc is full of reverence and respect toward Freddie while singing Freddie’s studio versions live (something Fred could never do). I think Freddie deserves to be honoured by someone like Marc, a pro, a fantastic singer, musician and performer, and a brilliant songwriter, someone who is Freddie’s equal, but not his impersonator or a clown strutting the stage in a crown a la Freddie.
Also, no one would EVER invest in a large tour built around a talent who has no charisma, stage presence, whatever it is you claim Marc doesn’t have. And Marc is booked 2 years in advance, large arenas. I have seen him live 3x and personally witnessed people next to me crying moved by Marc’s voice, I have seen chicks screaming, “OMG He’s so hot!” and have been pushed away from the stage by crazy fans trying to get closer to Marc. Martel is like a magnet on that stage. People pour toward him just to touch his hand. AND he always finds time to greet his fans who want to say ‘hello,’ even if he is exhausted after 2+ hours of running around that stage like a whirlwind. I myself am a skeptic, yet I felt like a kid at his first rock concert (I have been to many!), couldn’t stop smiling, screaming and singing along, much like thousands of people around me. Marc is an incandescent star. SIMPLY INCANDESCENT!

Freddie was clearly the main creative force behind Queen the band, it is now even more evident 30+ years later after his passing. Not to take anything away from Brian, Roger and John, all three are legendary musicians and songwriters. But yeah, the driving force was Mr. Mercury.

Wasn't Marc's mother not far from a location where Queen was touring the year before he was born? If I'm not mistaken. LOL.
Marc's mom wasn't familiar with Queen until her son started singing this music. And she would have had to travel outside of Canada that particular year. Queen's tour stop dates in Montréal don't work out so well.

There really is no one who can replace Freddie Mercury, however, Marc Martel's phenomenal voice and mannerisms may be a bit _too_ close for comfort.
It would be impossible for the fans (and probably even a few band members) to NOT see Marc Martel as a Freddie Mercury replacement, even if that may not be his intention.
I imagine it would be too much of a heart-breaking reminder, or perhaps it may be viewed as a tad bit disrespectful to his memory to bring on a carbon copy and make him the front man. Hell, John Deacon left the band and fell off the grid completely after Freddie's death, and he has no desire to ever return.
Freddie's death hit him particularly hard.
Whatever their reasons are for not taking on Marc, I understand it.
All I can do is respect their choice.

You are assuming Brian and Roger want to honour Freddie at all times. If they indeed wanted to, they could and they would. But judging by the BoRhap the movie, their hearts are hardly in it as they wouldn’t have demanded equal on-screen time for themselves were their intentions aligned with your assumptions.
All their actions, their rhetoric and their concerts are focused on THEM, not Freddie. Yes, they sing his songs, but they present them as Queen songs, not Freddie’s. They use his image for LOML but it is to highlight Brian’s tears he “sheds” at every concert as in “I miss you Freddie.” However, Freddie’s musicality is being slowly erased by Lambert who (a non-musician mind you!) insists on reimagining the wheel Freddie invented AS IF this karaoke singer can actually come up with better musical choices than such consummate musician as Mercury was! SMH And the worst of all, Maylor claim that Adam “can do what Freddie couldn’t,” which is preposterous to say the least. May have done great disservice to Freddie’s memory replacing him essentially with a karaoke singer and has the gall to claim Adam is better than Freddie.
I do think it pains May to have someone like Martel to front Maylor’s band. And it’s not bc Marc reminds May of his dear friend or bc fans would disapprove. Queen fans LOVE Martel. He sells arenas all over the world and without Maylor. And Marc is phenomenal, a beast of a musician, vocalist, songwriter and frontman! A beast! Someone who - were he to front Maylor - would upstage them in a heartbeat! He is young, strong, a savvy musician, and that voice! Man! Maylor don’t stand a chance! And for May that is distressful for sure as he fancies himself to be the King of Queen.
So, I think it’s very much a self-serving choice for Maylor to not hire Martel as the entire world is practically begging them to do, but to stick to a whatever-of-a-vocalist so that May specifically and Taylor secondarily can be the stars of their own show. But it IS their own show, and they have all the rights to sing with whomever they choose.

@@papabearM3 Между прочим есть авторские сольные песни Марка Мартела (не каверы), я слушаю =). Просто в основном все привыкли слушать песни Марка Мартела, где каверы и перепевки со старых песен группы Queen (где мужской главный вокал пел Фредди Меркьюри)
Также вроде и старые сольные песни Фредди Меркьюри (без группы Queen), сам Марк Мартел перепевал своим настоящим голосом (мужской главный вокал). Тоже это песни Марка Мартела (каверы)

Да, все в основном слушают его каверы Квинов из-за его неоспоримого сходства с Фредди голосом, музыкальностью, муз профессиональностью, и даже внешне от части. Тем самым его каверы и отличаются от всех других, тем что он не только на равных с Фредди по всем параметрам, но и , не пытаясь походить на Фредди, абсолютно походит на Фредди, особенно в концертах. Он создает иллюзию, что Фредди все еще жив.
Но, вы правы, не многие даже знают, что у Марка более 100 оригинальных песен! Он, также как и Фредди, писал и пишет классный материал! Но народ требует Квинов, как будто свет клином сошелся на них. Но я думаю что это от части потому, что Фредди был великолепен и дерзок, и все, что напоминает о нем хоть как-то становится востребованным из-за ностальгии и, часто, из-за того, что фанаты Фредди жалеют, что не видели его в живую.
Имидж Фредди продает абсолютно ВСЕ! На этом, кстати сказать, Мэйлор и зарабатывают массу бабок на данный момент. На ностальгии по упущенному шансу увидеть Фредди воочию и на всяком г**не, которое они продают с Фредди на обертке.
Марк зарабатывает концертами, как все проф музыканты. Но на концерты музыки Квинов идут гораздо охотнее, чем на концерты оригинальной музыки. Все без исключения банды поют каверы. В этом нет ничего плохого. Некоторые поют плохо, а другие поют их с вдохновением. Марк поет Квинов с вдохновением. При всей его похожести на Фредди, вдохновение - это большой плюс. И концерты его передают дух Фредди. Я видел это воочию.
Конечно хотелось бы услышать оригиналы Марка, даже если в перемешку с Квинами, но концерты Марка - это дань уважения Фредди, и я думаю, он, будучи очень скромным человеком, просто не решается поставить свои песни в одну программу с «великими Квинами». Хотя песни Марка просто классные, и музыка и лирика, и не чуть не уступают песням Квинов. Он вообще дает Квинам проср**ться, извиняюсь по всем пунктам. Но это другой разговор.

Кстати, тот голос, что вы слышите, и есть тот самый «свой голос» Марка. Он другим голосом не поет. Это его натуральный тон. Поэтому абсолютно все песни, которые он поет, без исключения, звучат как-будто сам Фредди записывает в студии.
У Марка более подвижный голос, чем у Фредди, и это позволяет ему использовать более широкий живой диапазон нежели Фредди. Поэтому кажется, что Марк поет другим голосом. Если Марк берет ноты вне рабочего диапазона Фредди, то у вас возникает ощущение, что он поет другим голосом. А на самом деле вам просто не с чем сравнить.

Well, I don’t know if they are ruining Queen. They are not. I think they are very self-focused in their renditions though. Their show is not about Freddie or Queen, it’s about them asserting their own personal place in rock music. Granted, it is THEIR show, and they can do whatever they want.
Also, no one knows what they really think: even when they do speak, it is hard to believe they speak their mind - it all sounds so scripted.
@@papabearM3 I totally get that but most of their songs are just old Freddie's songs which they sing one after another. Marc Martel would be a instant hit, if he was to be singing with them not for the purpose of impersonating Freddie but giving us the closest experience possible.

This would be a great interview if only some sound technician could sort it out, the different languages all being shouted at once spoil it completely, yes there will only ever be one Freddie and I loved him dearly but Marc Martel is wonderful and if Brian and Roger want to continue as Queen they need to have Marc as their vocalist and not Adam Lambert who is ok but Marc fits the bill in my opinion
