I wonder why they offer a stage one cam in this instance since the stage two made the same low speed power and more top end. Gen V motors are impressive.

My version of a gen III 5.3 to be sorta comparable to the Gen 5 is to make it a 347, raise the compression to 10.4, improve the quench, a BTR stage 1 truck cam, 706 heads with 2" intakes, proper valve job, some minor valve unshrouding, porting and thermal barrier coated valves, TBSS intake, Long tube headers, 6.2L sized exhaust & cats behind the headers. Daily driver Tahoe. Waiting on the heads and machine work now.

VVT allows the increase in power at the top with maintaining the low rpm torque. Now we just need variable intake runner length as the hemi has now for even better numbers.

    • @dennisrobinson8008

Everyones higher power level engine has a short or medium runner intake. Variable runners are usually helping out smaller engines.

Stage 2 cam for me. No torque loss down to 2500 rpm.
The Gen V's are so good, you should hunt down an LV3 and test it against an old 4.8. Then do a Big Bang Turbo test with it to see how the split pin crank does. I bet you can't break it.

I wonder what kind of gain/loss would happen with a stock LT1 intake manifold and a BTR Stage 1-3 cam. Now we have options for dod, vvt, and Di deletes with port injection conversion with a ls7 intake. If adding a turbo, upgrading pistons, rods, cam, lifters, head ported holley efi should i go with the full delete of everything and ls7 port injection? Or holley offers efi with vvt control do you think it could make a more consistent power band for the 1/8 if i leave the vvt?

They need a tiny bit of work to work but are $1000 less than the MSD intake. maybe a dumb question, but is there such a thing as a performance dod camshaft? I use my truck as a commuter, so I like to have some decent fuel economy.

It’s hilarious to me that a stock 20 year old ls6 makes the same power as an optimized brand new 5.3 with all its tech...and it would make even more on the Dyno. The only thing it has over the 5.3 is a mere .4 more liters.
