I am about to receive my ADHX, I’ll be doing 80-90% road with some rare racing, but plan to do some odd gravel or cyclocross races / rides. Nothing too coarse around where I live. I mainly race triathlon and it will be my fun train bike. And to be honest, I loved the paint job on the ADHX more than the 45…
I’d love to hear more about the 45 ride characteristics of the 45? I’m curious about the impact the longer chain stays and overall long wheelbase. I’m intrigued by the bike, but not sure about the geometry. It seems the geometry may just be the Frankenstein results of stretching an ADH to fit bigger tires. That may not lead to the best handling bike for any circumstance.
Great question! TBH I'm challenged to find any significant handling differences between the ADHX and the ADHX 45. Both handle exceptionally well, in just about every circumstance, but I have noticed a slight advantage over really rough stuff on the 45. It's not much, but it's perceptible.
Not how the Time engineers tend to operate. Ok they're have been ownership changes, maybe some turnovers etc but the guys at Time (and Look for that matter) have always started from a spreadshit of characteristics they wanna get to and started with this utmost important question so many brands tend to forget : ok, what's the best geometry to get those results ? Had they decided it had to be an entirely new design they'd done it. Just have a look at how the geometry and some other key designs aspects, albeit some seemingly subtle at first glance, differ from the ADH family to the Scylon model and you'll know everything you need to about Time. (the Scylon, although now a bit dated in it's aero features, still is to date the closest thing one can get to the sensations of a late 2010s TdF winning Specialized Venge that a normal human being can actually, y'know, ride)
@@lauigyou can’t seriously be suggesting that the engineers threw out all of the existing geo with a design goal of 45mm tires and landed on exactly what they already had just stretched out. You don’t think its at all likely that the ownership changes and move of HQ and mfg has left them a bit tight on cash and the easy option of simply slapping some longer chain stays on was approved by the accounting dept (or new owner)? If true, it doesn’t mean it’s bad or has any issues. But a bike with the rear center of a 70’s touring machine isn’t likely to handle like a crit bike. Not that the ADHX should be a crit bike, just that geo has implications. It’s just physics. The new owner seems to really care about the Time culture and the unique products, but it’ll be a bit before we see how well this all handles the move across the pond and what that ultimately means for the bikes.
I’m in a similar dilemma. I have an Open Mold “Gravel” it more like an all road frame. The biggest tires you can use is 40s. Then I have a Kinesis Tripster that’s a beast. I run 45s on it. I only have one groupset so I go back and forth trying to decide which is best suited for me. I ride mostly Road when I do venture onto the gravel. It’s nice having the bigger tires and longer wheelbase of the Tripster.
As someone who owns multiple time bikes I have a question. Can you have them do custom things to some of their frames? I’m thinking mudguard mounts and SRAM udh rear derailleur hanger
Hi Andy, i own a TIME Scylon 2023 disc, and recently pulled the trigger on a ADH disc 2023 as well, love those two bikes, the ride quality is top the notch, the best way i could describe it is smooth and stiff at the same time. Now recently there is a huge hype on both the internet and the local cycling community about the sworks sl8, didn't have the chance to test it out myself, but the hype makes me wondered did i make a mistake on getting the ADH disc 2023🤔? What do you think?
Is the difference between the ADH and the ADHX merely tire clearance or is the geo different? Ordered an adhx, what will i be losing vs the adh in terms of weight and ultimately speed?
I'm thinking of buying either the TIME ADHX or 45. Now I'm mostly doing rides on paved road, but I can see myself in the future riding more on gravel as well. Since it is a major investment buying this bike, I'm trying to be smart down the line as well. How does the ADHX45 feel with, 32 mm wheels? Would it be betetter to go for only ADHX?
If you put them side by side with the same components wheels and tires they would be identical on the road. I ‘d go with the 45 because it gives you the option for bigger tires later. The ADHX really can’t handle anything over a 38 which is limiting for a modern gravel bike.
you can go as narrow as you want! I'm just limited to 28 because the internal width of my rims is 25mm. If your rim has an internal width of 19-21 you can run 23'3, 25's and 28's!
Andy! Just found your channel and have enjoyed combing through your videos. Hope there’s more to come! Looks like it’s been a while…
Thanks! I’m actually reviewing for Competitive Cyclist again! Head over there to see my new shootouts

Nice! What color did you get??

I can tell you it goes where you point it and I've never ridden a more true handling bicycle!

Have an ADHX frame that I will use for road riding when all of the parts eventually arrive. LOVE the colour of that 45.
Good choice!

I hear ya. The older I get, the more I grab the bike with the bigger tires!

No, I’m afraid not. Custom paint with a long lead time is as close as you’ll get.
Enviable is an understatement!
Can you add length at the stem to these frames for a more upright right? Or is that not recommended anymore these days?

I haven’t ridden any of the Tarmacs, so I really can’t compare the two.

ADH and ADHX are two totally different frames, but no - you aren’t compromising at all. The X is equally performant in every way.
Thinking between an AHDX and 45...70% Road around 30% Gravel Rides would you still steer towards the 45 for mostly Road use?
Depends. What’s the “gravel” like where you live? Smooth or rough?
@@AndyClarkRealReviews oh mostly just fine EU gravel combined with wood roads
@@oliverbergmann611738 mm gravel tires are ridiculously capable these days, just saying 😉
Is the ADHX45 compatible with 650b wheels and fairly voluminous tires (e.g. >48mm)?
Yes, you can run 650b with 48’s but the frame is optimized to handle best with 700’s
Which one is the closest to an endurance bike?
They all have fairly racy geometry, but if you go up one size you can achieve a more granfondo fit

Unfortunately no, working on another project
Can you put 28 tires on the ADHX 45 to make it more road oriented? Or is there a minimum tire size larger than that?

The gravel bikes need fender mounts.
Couldn’t agree more.
Who makes that handlebar tape? It’s a perfect match!
JRC Components! Here’s a link. amzn.to/3TYUpwA
