That's a great compliment, thank you! It's using a very different approach to producing the animation compared to the standard workflow. All the motion is driven programatically with rules and algorithms, rather than being handcrafted offline and stitched together at runtime as is usually the case, even in AAA productions.
10 year old me would have blown a gasket over this. I was simultaneously a massive dragon nerd and completely obsessed with anything that flew, like flying toys and RC planes/helicopters. Growing up I always wanted a game that would let me play as a dragon and just fly about, but aside from a few not-so-successful attempts, like Drakenguard or Panzer Dragoon, such a game never existed. This is hands down and without exception the best version of this very niche game concept I've ever seen. This is the kind of thing that I would definitely have made myself, had I the skills to do so. 10/10
That's awesome to hear! There's a lot more to come, I have a working prototype of a GPU powered army simulation as well as a GPU powered building destruction system so you can wreak some havok in the world. I want to make the ultimate epic dragon riding experience.

This is beautifully done! I would recommend to give more resistance to the bones of the wings, what I mean by this, the wing falanges look too flexible in comparison of the extensor, they feel like hey are part of the skin when they are actually bones. Thats a nitpick though, Im an animal animator so I dont think this would be picked up by the common audience. This is amazing! I look forward to play this one day!
I noticed too and was actually going to comment the same thing. It just need to be a bit more rigid. The wing membrane should be flimsy and jiggly, but not the part with the bone.
I'm so glad i've seen people talking about this, it looks absolutely gorgeous i'm so excited to see what's to come. What you've done already is fantastic. We need more games that let you play as or ride dragons instead of killing them.
I really really hope this game doesn't wither away like so many other projects of it's kind. the only thing we have that's even CLOSE to this dragon flight is day of dragons and that's barely anything. us dragon fans have been chewing on bones when it comes to games, I have incredibly high hopes for this. it makes me so happy seeing these little previews

God ive literally been coming back to watch these videos daily. Something about the way each little bit of webbing between joints moves is just fascinating, its like the same attention to detail in GoT. I'm so excited for this project
I love this, the dragonflight itself still needs some work as I can see the wings bending at strange angles. Other than that though it looks fantastic how it flies at a constant high speed and the wings look the right size for a dragon that large. In a way it almost reminds me of Lair for the PS3 from way back when, hopefully this one makes good on its potential though.
I've actually been putting this on loop. The sound design is so satisfying! You could make an hour long "Roaming the Highlands on Dragonback" ambience video and I'd gladly save it!

I love the flight animation, but also the art direction approach with the mountains, clouds and the light. Very gorgeous, I hope you keep it grounded like that (rather than oversaturated fantasy style).
Brother if you can bring this game to life you’ll make a fortune, and have a fan base like you can’t even imagine. I can tell from what I’ve seen and read you’re not in it for the money, but it’ll come flowing regardless with dragons like this.
Complete suggestion, so take it with a grain of salt... I love the animations you have for the flight physics so far, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved! I would suggest looking into the animations they did for the flying in the Guardians of Ga'hoole movie or heck, even the Wii game they made has some pretty outlandishly realistic flight and combat mechanics for early 2000s. Maybe you learn a thing or two, or maybe there's nothing useful. Either way, I know a lot of people, myself included, already see this game as a child's dream come true!

this looks sooo good. Reading the books from Naomi Novik Temeraire lately and really wish there would be a videogame were you can ride dragons and fight like in the books.
Game looks super clean, and the animations look pretty solid. But what will be the intended gameplay of this game? Just flying around? Will there be ground combat? Im curious as to what this game will be besides you know, the amazing flying.

I've just discovered this as your videos got recommended to me and I am in AWE. How do you make the dragon flow so fluid and look so organic?? This genuinely looks AAA quality (if not better, as I've yet to see any AAA studio animate a dragon THIS perfectly!)

I studied game art and development at uni and that was over 10 years ago - I loved it but found it too difficult to get into thr industry and settled in another job before I ever got a chance! Like a much better century ages of ashes, except that game got milked for every cent and abandoned pretty much , I’m hoping for a proper dragon game some day and this looks like a really good concept already!
I hope there will be different dragons in the game and not just the usual wyvern type. Would love to see the classical four legged winged dragon. Maybe have some Chinese mythical dragons or Ampitheres. Serpents and hydras would be cool too. There are a wide variety of dragons yet no game has ever really shown the different types of dragons in mythology.
I really I hope I get to play this someday. It looks incredible. The only thing I would say in criticism is that the wings movement need a lot of work. They look very floppy and like paper just slapping around in the wind. This game looks amazing though.

I love that the ribcage and hips have their own seperate sections. Most of the time the whole dragon is ridged except for the wings.

Given that the dragon is heavily inspired by Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion I can't help but wish there was a Game of Thrones game like this.
