@@shealupkes T’Challa’s character cannot be white as his origin and creation are very explicitly tied to his race. You’d have to bastardize it to make sense of a white T’Challa. Wakanda was not colonized. It’s an all black nation in East Africa untouched by foreigners. You’d have to change Wakanda’s history to makes sense of a white T’Challa. Clark Kent’s origin however does not need to be changed because of a black actor who happens to be playing him. There are black kryptonians as opposed to an all black, African nation of Wakanda. The Kent’s would still take in a black Kal El and his story would still proceed as usual. You can’t have that with a white T’Challa. It would be a totally new character. And in the movies his powers are partly based on lineage. And even outside of comic storyline, Black Panther was black rep. specifically. It’s like characters such as Icon or Static. You can’t change their race either because there’s a very specific story to be told with their characters that focuses on black issues and black representation. You don’t have that with Superman. I mean the guy is an “illegal alien” lol. If they think Michael Jordan will be good for the role, they don’t need to change his origin or character relationships or anything like that. There are obviously certain white characters that wouldn’t make sense to be any race but white (because of their origin, like T’Challa) but there are many that are like Superman. Some of these characters were made during a time it was unlikely black superhero’s (or any minority really) would ever get the spotlight which is why you see black hero’s made to combat that later on but I guess black actors don’t want to be regulated by just those characters. Michael Jordan isn’t a bad looking dude (very obvious) and I’m happy to see how he does with the character. 👍 You could have a black girl play Black Panther since we know Shuri has been black panther in comics and will probably take up the mantle of black panther. And I’m not familiar with Black Widow but I assume some of her storylines wouldn’t make sense if she were a man. I’m not very familiar with Sam Wilson either but from his Wiki page and the TV Show, his origin and eventual title as Captain America (struggle with it) would have to be changed if he were white or it just wouldn’t make sense. +his history as black superhero, being an early one without black in his name and one of the first in mainstream comics (for obvious reasons), again wouldn’t make sense. Characters like Black Panther, Static, Icon, Falcon, and John Stewart are again all classic examples. Integration of black people into comics faced obvious issues and is why (from my knowledge) you don’t have black mainstream superhero’s that were created the same time Superman had been. Superman was partly created white because that was the default. It makes sense for the time and obviously the depiction stayed. No one is arguing that we permanently change the race of Superman in comics because I don’t think anyone cares that much about it, but a black actor playing him shouldn’t be that big of an issue, especially since I have not heard of his origin being changed if he truly will be playing Clark Kent.
@@hector3810 making Clark black creates the justification for a resentment Clark simply isn't meant to have, even if his parents are the perfect symbols of morality like they are normally described the same cannot be said about the people of smallville or metropolis and especially not for the rest of the world. @@shealupkes Racism has already been something we’ve seen Superman fight against though. He’s fought racists and xenophobia and seen the worst in people but he still holds the consensus that people are good and to see the best in everybody (in most iterations). Sometimes that xenophobia (don’t know if you’d still call it that in this situation) has been directed at him about how he’s not from Earth. He’s always been an immigrant on Earth who grows up as a farm boy and a Boy Scout. That’ll still happen with Michael Jordan. Even if we assume he saw racism or xenophobia more up close, considering that it’s already been reported that they’re sticking with his classic origin and story. I don’t think we have anything to worry about. This is obviously not the first time a character from DC has been cast as another race and I haven’t really seen this be this type of big issue character wise. I think you give DC too much credit to actually engage in that sort of thing on the big screen. They might for all I know (and I do realize a lot of this would be done for money) but I doubt anything like that would make or break Clark’s core character. I think it would strengthen it even if they decide to go that route. Man is both an undocumented immigrant and black but still believes that people deserve a second chance and that we should always see the best in everybody? Sounds like Clark. He’s not naive but he protects the world because he believes in it regardless.

I am glad someone talked about the black superman since when ever I tall about black super men I am met by annoyance since many people consider non stream line dc as weird or dumb. it's good that we get a side canon movie it the black line dc movies such as the Batman, joker, and the new superman reboot.
Thank you homie!
Before this video, I had only heard about the black Superman from an alternate universe. After this video, I must admit that president Superman and Val-Zod are interesting characters.
Let's go I want a hour of just captain carrot.
😆 Don't know why I'm laughing so hard at my own incompetence but I felt the need to share so anybody else needing a quick laugh can feel free.
I spent the first minute of the video wondering why Drake was talking like he was barred out, like legit everything coming out of his face was incredibly slow. I'm like, "Oh shit! Did the algorithm finally break my boi and he's on some substances?! Wait, RUclips...this thing has a playback speed doesn't it...yep, there's the problem. Sorry, Drake." Yes, I apologized out loud, to a RUclips video. 😆
I save the substances for off camera. ;)
@@ComicDrake Like the true professional! 🤣 Thanks, Drake! Your videos are grand, man. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Vak-Zod would make such a cool movie.
they need to make a black super man movie.thank u drake 4 doing this video.
Pretty sure they're doing it but instead of using these characters who deserve to show up on the screen, they're just making Clark Kent black and calling it a day.
If you get the hello fresh sponsor again, it will be the PERFECT opportunity to talk about Captain Carrot, while you present a recipe with carrots..
I love Val-Zod, from his character/personality to his costume.
When it comes to non-Clark Alternate Universe Supermen Val is probably one of my favorites, Superman from Justice League Gods and Monsters(Apparently it's a version of Lor-Zod), and Kong Kenan. I don't know too much about Calvin Ellis unfortunately, I should change that!
Krypton the show is awesome and should be renewed.
Nice black Superman my favorite hero and my race. Might as well add me to the cast list.
This was a fun on going and good research shown. 10/10 video. You keep it up!
yes please - a cpt. carrot video!!!
Gotta see people like icon, and blue marvel someday
Yes I would like to know more about Captain Carrot. I'd also like to know if there's been any references or crossovers between Earth-C/Earth 26 and Marvel's Larval Earth/Earth-25
Yes, Captain Carrot video, please and thank you sir.
Alternate title: I spend 15 minutes explaining why wb has no excuse for casting Michael b Jordan as Clark Kent
Why not? Being black doesn’t change his origin or anything so if they like Michael Jordan for the role who cares
@@hector3810 why not cast a white girl to play Sam Wilson or Tchalla? Why not get a man to play Natasha romanoff?
You could have a black girl play Black Panther since we know Shuri has been black panther in comics and will probably take up the mantle of black panther.
Making him black whether we like it or not recontextualizes his upbringing in a way that does not fit the character
I ABSOLUTELY need that Captain Carrot video !
Your the only one I can believe likes their sponsor
Yeah, I only take sponsors that I like.
@@ComicDrake omg u replied
Love the green screen effect on the leaf pin. Don't know if it was intentional, but it's cool.
Also, would love an episode on Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew.
I know he’s not technically “Superman” but icon is my favorite black Superman type character. His origin story is so interesting. I wish he got more appearances outside of the comics
sadly all dakotaverse/milestone characters are currently stuck in that legal shit show
@@donb7519 agreed, but I think static is getting a new book or show so hopefully we can get some more of those characters being represented!
You have no idea how much I want a full DREAMWORLD ongoing with Sunshine Superman, Prez and all the rest just going full on crazy 60s FAARRR OUT stories.
It seems like everytime I've heard there is a black version of something, I always think it's just one.
Oh I ABSOLUTELY wanna see a Captain Carrot video
Captain Carrot is a super bunny 🐰 I love Captain Carrot 🥕
Captain Carrot. Go for it. And Batman's lack of eating cat would also be fun, comic sexpert.
"as white as re-doing a bad high five" might be my quote of the week
Val Zod is probably my favorite of the "black" supermen
Wow they have a lot of choices, can pull a ton of Superman or Superman like heroes that are Black in the comics; And the movie that's coming out straight up Frank Castles Clark Kent.
A Chance to revive an interesting character or universe, and they blow it.
Hello from the future Drake, as of recently in YOUNG JUSTICE season 4 the creator made General Zod and his son black.
Technically Steel should count
no one thinks a black superman is weird they think a black kal el is weird
Too political, unsubscribing.
Awesome. Please don't come back. :)
Yes! Just the list I was looking for.
Cool now make vidoe on every white black lighting oh wait
How about evey white black panther oh wait
How about evey white storm oh wait
What's your point?

Well those for characters being black is a part of there character while superman looking white isnt. I honestly dont mind race bending as long as it works but I prefer original characters

Great video as always, and yes, captain carrot yes!
The effect on the pin was awesome... You should have left it on I was enjoying it after you pointed it out and I went back and clocked it... It looked much cooler than the actual pin color
If we don’t get a captain carrot vid I’m gonna sue
Please, tell us more of this "captain carrot". Awesome video, btw.
While I'll admit I haven't read the actual comics and I've only read Wiki pages about him, I was wondering if the interestingly capitalized SuperMan from Earth-9/Tangent Comics was going to be on here, though it seems this was mostly about Kryptonian Supermen. Learning about them was still really awesome, and I'll always appreciate the incredible effort that goes into these videos! Plus, I'd be interested to hear more about Captain CarrotーI recognized him as soon as I saw him in that group image, but now that I think about it, I don't know anything about him. Ah, the curse of mostly getting my info from Wikis!
Maybe it’s me, but as a kid I had always been led to believe that Steel was supposed to be “black Superman”
The initial run of Earth 2 was so good, it's devolution was so sad to watch.
Val-Zod has the BEST Superman costume, and I hope to eventually see the character in James Gunn's DC films.
I would like that captain carrot video in a timely manner please and thank you good sir.
