Tomatoes and onions--thanks for the heads up! My Grandma planted by the moon, so I will do some planting Monday and Tuesday when the moon is in Taurus. I do so appreciate this channel. Property taxes! It is such a disheartening thing to realize that we can never actually 'own' our property. Not while we pay TPTB 'rent'.

Praying for all of you! We have so many plans and so little time! We can’t wait to be able to spend our days working in the garden. I go to work in the heat all day and even though I have several hours of daylight when I get home the heat is just too much!
I'm a cook, chef, dish washer my whole life. When the kids were grown n gone I was still making large meals. I have been doing this the twenty years now. Right now I have in my freezer, 1 breakfast bake, 3 or 4 scalloped potatoes, 3 tuna casserole, 1 spaghetti, and a quart bag of italian meatballs I made. I am canning chili beans, garbanzo beans, and baked beans today second batch of chili beans are in now. One can at the store was $1.55 I'll make my own for that price. Thanks from N. E . Wisconsin
For all those filling freezers, be sure you have enough canning jars to save your meat in a grid down emergency. I had one freezer go down last year and ended up canning 60 pints of ground meat. We were able to consolidate the other freezers to hold the rest of our meat. It takes LOTS of jars just an FYI.
Thank you. I make breakfast bites. Basically, the sane ingredients, I put it all together and bake in muffin pans. No tortillas needed. Freeze on a sheet pan and then vacuum seal. My chicks are loving excess shredded zucchini and cucumbers. ❤ Thanks for all you do.
If you buy regular (not microwave) popcorn, you can plant them. Any kind of corn has to be planted like 100-150 feet (can't remember) away from any other type of corn. I have 3 different types of popcorn and 3 different types of corn. I have blue hopi corn (which I think is what they call a flour corn), hickory king (a dent corn for corn meal and animals) and a sweet bantam corn for eating. All of them can be eaten but won't taste as sweet. For popcorn, I have a bag of yellow kernels (regular) from the store, and a strawberry and a multi colored type. I didn't get much planted this year as to many health issues. I go next week for a neck Doppler scan (ultrasound).
I wish more people would be open to bartering. I live in St.Louis and any time I suggested it, people looked at me like I had 3 heads. I stopped suggesting it Years ago. Maybe people are more open to it in other parts of the country.
Thanks Jill, love your videos. Had such a bumper crop of tomatoes this year that I think I’m not going to plant any for a fall crop and focus on some other crops instead. I appreciate you!!!
Your herbs are beautiful! That’s one thing I didn’t grow this year and wish I did. This has been such perfect weather for growing. Remember the last two summers? 🥵
No rain for weeks in my part of Alabama. Dragging hoses, some drip hoses but not enough and I’m sure my water bill will be horrendous. My plants hate, city water but I don’t have a well. Returning to our 105/107 heat index by this weekend. I’ve already got orange pumpkins , winter squash, watermelon that’s almost ready to harvest.
We harvested more from our garden yesterday before rain. We got 82 hundredths and more showers thus afternoon early evening. Yummy breakfast. Add some chopped up tater tots for another layer or homemade hashbrowns to add in.
I went out Tuesday and took some cuttings from my current tomato plants to root into fresh potting soil for my fall garden. I have an invasion of what looks like potato bugs all over my tomato plants and they are destroying everything. I have no idea what they actually are but they are winning. 😢 I put up a 60% shade cloth last Sunday, so I’m hopeful that once I pull out my current tomato plants, I can replant my cuttings and the shade cloth will help them make it to fall. Have you ever done cuttings for your fall tomatoes? How did it work out?

I have a farmer source for canning tomatoes relatively cheap. Lord I almost passed out when I saw she had a bushel of green beans for 75 dollars.. Yikes !
Even with double fencing around our garden---the cottontails who live in our neighborhood have chewed every single green bean plant down to the stalks! I am so mad I could spit. I think we must create a Raised planter area for the beans. I am doing as much prep as possible, and have for several years---but unlike you, I don't have a true partner in this. He still thinks everything is "just fine". (EYE ROLL)
Get yourself some blood meal and sprinkle it on your plants and around your plants! Herbivores don't like the smell of taste of blood, and it's a good nitrogen source for your plants! Just an old master gardening trick!😎🇺🇸
Already started bartering this year. My friend makes sour dough bread and I grew blackberries. We barter berries for bread. Also hubby buys pork when in sale and makes homemade Italian sausage. For the price of pork and casings we save about 50.00 a batch of sausage
I found a gal in our area that I barter my eggs with. I take her several dozen eggs from our flock of 12 and she gives me artesian baked sour dough bread, cookies and scones. It’s awesome!
@ntxg what is BT? Also again this year we have a zillion grasshoppers! We got more chickens this year so I catch as many grasshoppers as I can and give them to chickies. But we just have too many to control
Your garden looks great Jill! Very nice. I was just going to ask you if you’re still on that bike. It’s wonderful you haven’t lost interest in it. I love riding bikes, but I don’t have an electric one. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet on that one. Michigan is wet and hot too. We had a storm last night and all the plants got a nice drink of water. I’m afraid that’s one thing they won’t allow…no property taxes. I fear that is the way they will drive us out of our homes….if we let them! I’m getting tired of watching them hurt people, and I’m one step away from them bothering me!
Not sure why but I am infested with white flies, katydids, aphids, mealy bugs, and the ever present grasshoppers. I am done until fall. Hopefully the bugs will die before then.
