This video was really useful! I'm currently using a language learning app to improve my Japanese and this is exact the type of stuff I'd like to learn. Many Japanese people I've talked to try not to correct me if something isn't blatantly wrong, so things like saying hello (konnichiha) when you start talking to a friend from the app is not something they would usually comment on, even if it's awkward or not really the right thing to say.

一か月だけ日本語を勉強しています。母は日本人ですが僕は全然日本語を話しませんでした。because she's a native speaker it's hard for her to explain why some of the grammar is the way it is or what certain grammar structures mean, and that's why i find your videos so informative and helpful! i've been exposed to japanese for many years and learned hiragana and katakana when i was around 16, but only now (at 19) am i taking formal lessons at university. i hope to one day become at least proficient because i really want to connect with that part of my family history. ありがとうございます、みさ先生!

you're not stupid! I was to be pretty okay with Japamese (I took it in HS for 2.5 years) but now I can barely speak it. How well you retain language depends on things like if you take notes (which I do with every video lol) and how often you use it! So if you practice your Japanese a lot you'll see lots of improvement in retaining it!

I really admire Japanese punctuality - I wish more people were the same way where I live. It's just a matter of respect to be mindful of other people's time and/or to be on time for someone. I don't understand why more people here don't grasp this, or why they feel it's okay to act frivolously with other people's time.

Hello Misa, I just discovered your channel. I just started learning japanese, because I am planning to visit Japana next year in February/March and I think at least trying to do your best to learn a foreign language, is showing your respect for the respective culture and I do respect the japanese culture even if I think, that it very much restricts japanese people to fit in society as best as they can and punishes "outsiders" or people, who don't want to go with the system severely. I hope, that the japanese socitey will accept more individualism in the near future and that you will receive much more acceptance for your hard word. You are doing your best to help foreign people to understand the japanese culture and I am truly thankfull for that, even if I don't fully understand everything you explain yet, but I can see that you are doing your best and I hope this comment helps you to feel better when reading this :)! Also, af"correct", buter I have learned more of the japanese Hiragana and Kanj, I will definitely come back to improve the language skills that are not only t "common" in Japan :).

Fun thing... ところ looks a little bit like the mexican concept "ahorita".
We (should) use it to mark something that just happened or is about to happen.
Problem is, mexicans are very indirect too (to the point of flaw). So if they don't want to look bad and tell you "ahorita llego" / "I'm about to arrive" it might mean "I just got out of the bath" or worse.
