  • JG54 was founded in Austria in April 1940 and was made up of Austrian volunteers. During the Battle of Britain JG54 were based at Guines, Campagne-les-Guines and Hermalinghen, South of Calais and East of Boulogne. Waldemar Wubke flew a distinctive looking Me/Bf 109E-3 (Yellow 11) of the 9th Staffel of JG54 Grunherz. He had a quiet but effective career and by the end of the war had a total of 15 kills attaining the rank of leutnant. It was at the end of the war that he gained a degree of infamy when flying a FW 190D-9 as Staffelkapitan with 1/JV44, providing air cover for the airfields used by Galland's JV44 Me262 squadrons. His nickname was 'Heine' and he was later to become a Hauptmann.
    Today's example is from Corgi. It is 1:72nd scale and made of diecast with plastic accessories. The model is of the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 from Luftwaffe 9./JG 54 "Grunherz", as flown by Waldemar Wubke.

    No one painted their planes quite like the Germans! An absolutely gorgeous bird 😻

      You do certainly get some great looking liveries!! And this one was very unique!! So was his "Dora" that he flew as cover for JV44. Hopefully I can find one of those!!

      Yes this has the big 20mm through the spinner, some later G models had a 30mm!!!

    Really good model and though older, those Corgi 109s did not have the quality issues that the later ones did. Great finish and very attractive.

      Are the newer 109's a newer mold? Or are you talking paint finish issues? I do like myself a 109 😁

      @@heavymetaldiecast Yes like the newer Spit, the Hurri, and the Mustang, Corgi retooled their 109E about a decade ago. The 109 is very good but unlike the rest it seems that some QC issues crept in. Or at least they did for mine. OOer! Perhaps it was the diecast gods at work. I have offended them!

      @@peterhewson3216 Or maybe the French resistance have snuck into the manufacturing of Corgi's 109's and are deliberately sabotaging them!!

    That’s a beautiful replica. Surprised the engine cowling is removable.
    I had a plastic replica of a 190-A my dad bought from the Field Museum when I was a kid. Can’t find any versions. Does anyone know who made those or where to get one?

    • @heavymetaldiecast
      @heavymetaldiecast  Месяц назад

      Yes Corgi have this feature on a lot of their aircraft. Was it a ready made plastic replica? or a plastic model kit? It would be hard to work out without knowing some sort of brand name. But I would assume if they are no longer made that eBay is probably the best bet to find one!! Thanks for watching!!

      @@johnpauljones4190 If I can I always try to mention the pilot of the aircraft in the video more from me out of respect for the people that fly these machines into battle. A lot of these brave men don't make it home and should be remembered no matter what flag they flew under. It's easy to forget about the people that fly some of these amazing aircraft.
