Heavy Metal Diecast Video Reviews
Австралия
Добавлен 12 май 2022
Welcome. I collect diecast aircraft, tanks, cars & some figures of various scales and also love my music heavy. So, the Heavy Metal Diecast model review channel was born. Showing videos of predominately diecast metal (& some plastic/resin also) models that I have bought. In these videos I will give my own "Average Joe" opinion on them. I'm not a professional, but my view just as a bloke that collects models and if I like it or not. If that helps you in whether making the same purchase of the model, then that makes me happy to help in some way. I won't be picking too much on accuracy issues or have in-depth historic info on each model, there are tons of other cool videos made by other RUclipsrs with more credible knowledge than myself. If you have enjoyed any of my videos why not throw us a like or even subscribe. Thanks for coming 😀Cheers from Australia and a big thank you to my viewers from around the world, I appreciate you spending your time here! .... So let's open a box!!!!
McDonnell Douglas F-4B Phantom II, US Navy VF-111 Sundowners, 1975, X-Plus 1:72 Diecast Model
✈️X-Plus Heavy Metal Collection F-4 Phantom II, VF-111 Sundowners✈️
The Sundowners were originally commissioned as VF-11 at NAS North Island on October 10, 1942. The name Sundowners refers to the squadron's job of shooting down Japanese "Suns", but it also refers to an old nautical term. A Sundowner was also a ship's captain who directed his crew towards hard work until the day was ended. The term originated in the days of sailing ships when grog was customarily served on ships. A strict captain might withhold the ration until dark, but others allowed the grog to be served when the sun dipped below the yardarm.

One of my favorite planes
No window's on the side doors no full bright silver wheels it just sucks and very cheap and low quality these greedy companies who make these cheap die-cast cars really suck they never make it perfect as you want it
Well done my friend!! This same bad ass model is next on my list!!
Thanks for checking out the video, just make sure you find one at a good price!!! These things can be crazy expensive!!!
Just picked it up for $150 including shipping hahaha....OMG cannot wait to see it!!!
Very stunning livery with attention to stencilling and alert signs. Some fitment issues here which I had heard about from others who bought them, but I thank you for risking your model to show us what it looked like gear up/down. Much appreciated and your reward-"Get the glue!" Issues can be attended to with some sanding I feel but the stand is a bit of an problem but not the producer's fault.
Yeah this looks great, but can be a pain in the ass to handle (a lot like my ex wife 😂) Glue, Fire extinguisher and bourbon are always on hand when making a video!!! Yes the unfortunate thing when buying second hand models is missing or wrong parts. Its the risk we take, and you just hope people are honest!! Which is not always the case. But I did get this at a good price, pretty much a Hobby Master price so I would have bought even if they said it had the wrong stand...at least I would have known and not looked like a muppet on the video, haha
Superb scheme for a punchy aircraft. And one of the few in which I have inserted the crew - easy done too. Have the North Coates Strike Wing model which is great too and as I live down the coast from former RAF North Coates and there is a memorial to the wing in my town at Cleethorpes, very special.
Yeah this looks really nice, I love desert camo!!! Ah awesome there is a memorial close by, do they have a display aircraft there at all?
The gun poking out the back is based af! 😅
The model is great. But, paying 2x or even 3x more than HM, doesn't make sense. But if you find a good price, it's definitely worth the money... I have 2 X-Plus models (actually 3), and I'm looking for a third one, for a decent price. But I can see that you're a little disappointed. This is what happens when you buy used models. The model itself is very old, because they're no longer produced. More precisely, that mold is produced by Air Commander. And with used models, you can expect surprises. For example, yours most likely had a Century Wings stand installed instead of the original one. It's possible that the plastic has changed its properties, because it's hard to assemble the chassis. But, if you don't overdo it, and press it a little, you can put it back in place. For one of my models, the entire chassis had fallen apart, but it wasn't broken. I thought I'd have to throw it away, but it turns out I glued it back together as perfectly as possible. Because it's metal. By the way, you need to be very careful with AIM-7 missiles, because they are painted and difficult to enter the holes. But when you put them in, they hold up great, unlike HM missiles. One way or another, but now we are waiting for a comparative video, X-Plus vs HM. But before that, you need to play with your model without a camera. Just be careful with the cockpit, because it can break. Air Commander tried to adjust it, but they didn't do very well.
Yeah the pricing if I had of paid a lot for it I would have been very underwhelmed. I got this for a Hobby master price, but did expect to be blown away by it. But I wasn't, good to know about Air Commander is the same mould as I am going to try and get one of those for my comparison video, which I promise this year will start doing. Yeah always hoping I don't get a surprise when buying second hand, usually its not too bad. Yeah the ordnance fitted great on this, just the landing gear parts werent 100% and the front canopy doesn't open up very far!! Does yours have any issue with the front canopy? Thanks as always for your helpful knowledge, I really appreciate it!!!
@@heavymetaldiecast All my models are inflight, so the copykit is always closed. So there was no problem. But I know that Air Commander tried to fix it, and most people complained about it. They said that it was better to leave it like X-Plus. I read all this because I don't have an Air Commander model yet. I couldn't find an attractive price. When I find one, I will definitely buy it :D But if you want to disassemble the pilot, it seems to me that the entire middle part comes off. Tomorrow I will be able to try it on one model, which I keep as a spare part.
@@slizevicius You know your doing great when you can say you have an X-Plus model as a spares model, haha
This Modell is from AirForce1. I have this Box with Logo! My Aircraft is white. Greetings from Germany!
Ah thanks for the update on manufacturer. Yeah sometimes they just come in these plain boxes, where AF1 usually have some artwork. I looked at that white one first but ended up choosing this one, haha. Thanks for watching!! Hello Germany!! My parents both came from Deutschland!!!
HM F/A-18C/D are really very good models. Even if they lack rivets and the panel lines are too deep. Of course, this is my opinion. But the fact is that such a great fighter is produced only by HM, and collectors have no choice. Jc Wings/Witty Wings/Gemini/Herpa, are very poor, so I don't even consider them as models. Yes, the DW is also very good, but its plastic parts are of poor quality, and most people are put off by it.
For sure, HM make great Hornets!!! You just made my JC Wings/Witty Wings Hornet models cry!!! haha...the comparison video is going to be fun, haha
@@heavymetaldiecast But keep in mind that at Jc Wings/Witty Wings, only the F/A-18C is bad. The F/A-18E/F is pretty good. Except for the plastic parts.😂
@@slizevicius boy are we going to have some fun with these comparison videos, haha
Beautiful. I especially like that the silver color also has a darker shade.
Yeah this is another great looking HM Starfighter!!! I really do like these models now I have the hang of assembling that landing gear, haha
Great video as always. The model is not bad. It would be good to make a comparison with the Corgi and IXO models...
haha I'm getting those comparison hints !! I promise this is the year I do some, haha
Pretty freakin' cool Phantom! It seems that all those fiddly bits could have used magnets to stay in place as done by some other brands.
For sure, I think if they were making them now that would be the perfect option for them to go with. That nose wheel gear bay door when its plugged in is a night mare to get out as you saw!! Thanks for checking out the video!!
Nice review, but where's the Heavy Metal Diecast theme song? I think it's great. 🤘
Thanks for watching!! Yeah I figured I'll do a different car related intro theme for these ones when I do them 😂😂
Nice review! I have that one and after doing some research, it seems that the serial number (T9068) is incorrect and not known. The historical photo you showed in the video is for a Mk.IC. Normally, the serial number would set off my OCD, but I think the model looks so cool, I had to push the OCD aside. Ha!
Haha yeah I get a little OCD with the propellers in my videos. If I spin them and they don't line up like a Mercedes symbol I usually fiddle with them!! Normally HM are on point with their accuracy for the models. Guess we all make mistakes!!! I know I do,haha. Thanks again for dropping past!!
These models can be pretty expensive though, but just as a tip when looking for a models actual value do not judge by listings on eBay, since they are all overpriced, look at the sold listings to find a value price since people only buy things for what they are willing to pay. These models apparently go for $500-700 but the only one sold recently (completely different version but still) sold for $200
I think that whoever is looking for it, he finds it cheap. I paid only 75eur for 2 F-4B 330098 models together!!!, and only 100eur for F-4EJ 330081... Please don't be jealous :D eBay prices are sometimes quite illogical. I can't imagine who can pay 500+ euros for a model...
Yeah prices can be utterly insane on eBay and I think the same. Who would pay so much money for a diecast model like this!!! I cant imagine too many people have the spare cash to make a purchase like that, unless your Gates or Zuckerberg, haha
Got someone willing to sell me this one for $60 USD, hoping to pick it up soon since I've been wanting this one for a while! Very convenient review lol
I'm like google I'm tapped into all your searches so I can bring you the videos you need,haha....bit worried about some of your searches though 😉🤣...but seriously, if you can get it and especially at a good price snap it up for sure!!! Thanks for watching!!
Looking at this model, which I never have X Plus in my collection, I only have Hobby Master and Air Commander. I can tell you the X Plus looks identical to Air Commander in terms of overall appearance, but for sure not the quality. The Air Commander quality is top-notch by far, but this model just looks like it Even the display stand looks like an Air Commander stand that would make me wonder Probably the X Plus people try to mimic the Air Commander brand. I don’t know; that’s just my assessment. awesome model and a great review.
I believe air commander at one point probably sold the molds cause they are literally just Air Commander but with more options for liveries which is nice, the quality is a bit rough though.
From what I've heard, the Air Commander uses the X-Plus mold. The X-Plus models are no longer in production. When they stopped production, the Air Commander came along. They're the same quality and they're great models.
As it seems the X-Plus and Air Commander are the same molds as others have stated!! I do want to get an Air Commander one as well to see the quality difference. So hopefully I can without needing to sell a body part to afford it,haha. Thanks for watching!!
@@heavymetaldiecast Pre-orders are now available for "Air Commander AC1013 | McDonnell Douglas F-4G Wild", for 150eur. Tempting...
Great review as always thanks! Would be cool for you to do a quick comparison in these of this side by side with one of your HM Phantoms!
Yes the comparisons videos will be coming this year!! I'll be doing the big five once I get an Air Commander one. I'm hoping to get Hobby Master, Corgi, Gemini Aces, X-Plus and the Air Commander ones together!!
@@heavymetaldiecast Corgi, not worth comparing. I don't even look at it as a model. But Gemini Aces, as far as I know, are really good. I'm trying to get them for a good price, but they are very hard to find. As for the comparison, I would suggest doing two, or at most 3 models. If there are too many, it will be difficult to understand. But that's just my opinion. And X-Plus and Air Commander, they are actually the same model, only the paint and armament are different...
@@slizevicius Yeah Corgi ones aren't the best, I definitely think HM ones are the best for all round value, quality and detail. I went to get an Air Commander one yesterday but the seller just put the price up another $20, I should have bought it last week!!! But it is good to know that both X-Plus and Air Commander are pretty much the same model!!!
@@slizevicius hey I just saw Forces of Valor are releasing this FORCES OF VALOR F-4B PHANTOM II US NAVY VF-111 "SUNDOWNERS" 814051A. Do you think they are using the same mold as X-Plus/Air Commander?
@heavymetaldiecast To be honest, I've never heard of FoV Phantom. It would be interesting to see it.
Wow 😮 That shock of blue on the underside was amazing 🤩 But where’s the roundels? 🤔 The Beaufighter is overshadowed by the Mossie but is still a very cool heavy fighter/ ground attack plane. The forward positioned engines and stubby nose make for a very distinctive looking aeroplane. Thanks for sharing as always.
Yeah its really in your face, and colours like that can sometimes play up with the camera, haha. Yeah I'd feel pretty nervous about sitting in between to two spinning propellers, especially with my pessimistic outlook, haha. The Beau certainly packed a punch, but your right the sexier mozzie got the limelight, like the poor P-47 being outshined by the P-51 just because she is a little chunky, haha
I’m getting a VF2 soon, but has the quality regarding the parts been bad (like wings being loose, parts prebuilt not put together strongly) because my Gemini jets a330 had it’s engine fall off when i touched it😂😂
and i didn’t open it that often
With some JC Wings models I have had part fitment issues, and with that you also can get the occasional breakage as you put extra force to get the ordnance to fit. The wing movement was ok, but I have had smoother!! Some models are just more fragile than others and need to be handles accordingly to avoid unhappy endings!!! Good luck with your next model, hopefully its a better experience!!
Modelo incrível! Muito bonito! Ficou muito bem com esse Belo esquema de camuflagem do deserto.
Yes I really love the desert camouflage scheme as well. One of my favourite styles. Thanks for watching!!
Love this model hopefully will get myself one of these in the future only thing would of made it even better is if they added a torpedo so you could have it with rockets or a torpedo set up as the mostly used them 2 kits the most for anti shipping missions in the mediterranean. 👍
They do some with the Torpedo I think, you just don't get it with this livery. Plus where the cradle sits you couldn't use it unless your a gear down guy, haha. Happy hunting for yours!!!
Lindo F-4 Phantom! Modelo Muito bom 👍
Yes she looks great, but boy they are expensive!!! Thanks for watching!!
That's a great looking model! I've bought a few Dragon models from a physical store down in Melbourne years ago, but they don't stock them anymore. Which online retailer do you buy your models from?
Yeah its a beast. Thats my neck of the woods as well. I buy a lot from eBay from people selling their collections and also shops have eBay stores as well, like Metro Hobbies, Hobbyco etc and they also have their own online websites. Also AliExpress is another site I have got some of the newer models from. They are ok when things are going good, but a pain in the ass if anything ever arrives broken and you need to return/refund. Thanks for checking out the video!!
@@heavymetaldiecast Thanks! It's been a few years since I've bought a model, but I decided now was the time for a refresh and I have my eyes set on a 1:35 Ferdinand by Dragon. Go big or go home!
Nice model , but for the retail price the quality control of the fitment of parts looks disappointing
Yeah I was a little disappointed myself, as these are sitting around $300AUD or more on eBay atm. I was lucky I got this at a Hobby Master price, but man if I had paid big dollars, definitely would have felt a little ripped. But as I say in the vid, this is my first I wont hold judgement entirely on this model, hopefully I can find another one and see how that one goes!! Thaks for watching!!
Beautiful car. Love the aerodynamics on Lambos.
Yeah very unique cars, be a real pain to get in an out of though, haha. Guess that's a rich persons problem 🤣
Thanks for the review, I've got a mini sub theme of Sundowners and have three different aircraft. I was originally looking for a decently priced X-Plus version of this Phantom but was way out of my budget. Am kind of happy I didn't find one, lovely model yes but as you say is it worth 3x the price or even 2x?
Honestly it is hard to tell, I don't look at eBay listings since people overprice the shit out of everything, I only look at sold listings and can't find one that has Sold recently ( really shows no one wants to pay for the overpriced listings of $500 minimum) but a different one (an F4E) sold for $200 so I would probably say they're worth around the same as air commander usually goes for.
If you find it at an affordable price, it's definitely worth it...
@@envygd4902 certainly agree about some of the ridiculously high diecast prices these days. I always check the sold prices myself on ebay as a guide, well worth doing if the model is common enough to exist on the list that is lol.
Yeah pricing is the big key regarding these models in whether to make the purchase or not. I personally would not be paying over $300AUD for one of these. I was lucky to get this at a more Hobby master like price so it didn't sting too badly!! But I would rather have 2 Hobby master Phantoms than 1 X-Plus,haha
@@heavymetaldiecast absolutely, two is always better than one for same price 🤣
So it's a 1:18 Maisto but the bottom of the car says it's a Bburago? Ok that's strange
Man your absolutely right!!! I went back and double checked my photos. That is weird!!! Just did a little googling, and it seems Maisto bought out Bburago and owns the rights to their models now!!! Good eye though!!! At least I know one person is watching, haha
@heavymetaldiecast You would've thought they'd change the brand name on the bottom 😂😂 lazy buggers
Very good hobby master bomber 😮
For sure, looks awesome hey!! Thanks for checking out the video!!
I was thinking of a corgi version of this but my god the price haha
Yeah prices can be insane at times!!!!
My Grandpa was in VMA 311 in Vietnam in 68' wish they would make an A-4E with the Tomcats Livery
HM do a A-4M from VMA 311 circa 1981 just incase you weren't aware. HA1412. You must be proud of your grandfathers actions. I find Vietnam Veteran's deserve more thanks and recognition than they received. Thank you for watching!!!
@ I agree he was a great man, I may end up buying the A4M just so I have a tomcats one, but I do have a John McCain A-4E USS forestall in place of the Tomcats A-4E that will hopefully come out.
@@JackMaus that John Mcain one is that HA1403? Looks nice. I do wonder if Hobby Master will be doing more A-4's
HeavyMetal it is hard to be sure in the video: are the tops of the main wing painted off white and the bottoms light grey? Nice bare-metal finish elsewhere. Have you featured any F-104s with a Chrome finished fuselage?
Yes its white on the wing upper surfaces and a light blue/grey underneath. I don't have any Chrome/polished finished ones as yet. But I have done 2 previously in a similar style as this one
@heavymetaldiecast Hobby Master has only done 2 models with chrome finish the, both Limited Edition: 1) HA1011 (booklet/leaflet June2008) CF-104 Starfighter RCAF "701" \ Limited Edition 1000 Worldwide - Special chrome finish (however it models a test aircraft with lots of high-vis orange paint) 2) HA1029 (booklet/leaflet Nov2007) Japanese F-104J 206 Sqn., Air Self Defense Force "863" \ Limited Edition 600-Worldwide, special chrome finish These also have painted main wings: whitish top & greyish bellow. And you have done a video on the only other similar finish model by Hobby Master - HA2823 F-22 "Mirror Coating".
@@weldonyoung1013 Oh they are some early birds from Hobby master indeed!!! Probably worth a mint now days!! I did just manage to pick up HA1016 CF-104 which is a camo version this week, so waiting on that one to arrive!! Yeah that mirror coating on the F-22 is fantastic!!! Thanks for the extra info regarding those earlier 104's!!!
I have one too. As you say at 3:56 "super hornet", well it might be "super", it is not a "Super Hornet". If it were and in the RCAF, maybe we wouldn't have had to acquire some second-hand Hornets from Austrailia.
Haha yes its not a "Super Hornet" I mucked up there!!! I meant to edit that out, haha But forgot and didn't realise until after I uploaded it...but I figure Canadian's will forgive me!!!🤣🤣 hopefully!!!
@heavymetaldiecast yeah, I think we can - forgive you. But not sure I speak for all Canadian - as I see in the comments I'm not the only Canadian to tune-in.
@@weldonyoung1013 Haha yes there are a number of Canadian viewers so you are not alone, 😁 Actually Canada sits in 6th place on the channels viewer location behind Germany, Indonesia, Australia, UK and the US that tops the list!!....can you guys crack the top 5!!!😁
Do the wheels move?
Yes they do, I mention that at 5:09 🤣🤣👍👍 Thanks for checking out the video!!!
@ ok lol mb
@@Wither722 haha all good 👍👍
First class model here! Fine detail and no fit issues. Check out that cockpit detail too. One thing Corgi should do better is including some detail in this area. Sleek and very sound is this.
Yeah HM Hornets are pretty tight. Always a stress free purchase when picking up one of these!! I guess HM do more detail in the cockpit is because they offer I think every model with the choice of open or closed canopy, unlike Corgi. Thats my theory or Corgi just couldn't be stuffed, haha Thanks for watching!!
@@heavymetaldiecast Never thought of that but makes perfect sense. Corgi Phantoms are the only models that come to mind with opening canopies. You have it right I am sure.
Monster Monster! Well finished and a quality representation of this very Soviet behemoth.
Sure was a monster, I could imagine the faces on German soldiers when their shells bounced off would have been the same as the allies when the Tiger appeared!!
Now that is a stunner! That superb metallic finish! Great scheme and livery. You are daring diecaster - handling all those small parts like a maestro!
Yeah she's not too bad hey!! They say experience is key and I've done a few HM 104's now,haha....and also sometimes luck has a big role to play when assembling your models!!!
Fab model , rigging is always a bonus on a model , really like it , cheers again for sharing
Yeah it always amazes me how they get all that done and so straight. Must need small hands...even child like hands maybe 🤣🤣
Love the typhoon ,tons of ordnance for tank busting 😂, thanks again for sharing
Yep this one sure is keen for some ground pounding duties!! Thanks for watching!!!
Monster of a tank , great model of it
Yeah HM did a great job on this one!!! Thanks for dropping past!!
You should buy Jcwings stands or HM flying stand
I probably would consider that if I displayed mine in flight, but I display the majority of my models on their landing gear. I do have a few JC Wings stands now though but I'm not a huge fan of the ones that fit into the engine exhaust as they can break off if not glued on properly too!!! Thanks for watching!!
I think I have a Taiwanese HM starfighter...
Nice, that one is a great looking model too!!!
That looks mighty fine. To avoid injury to the ground crew etc, they had to cover the leading edges of the wings because they were so sharp. Beautiful model, thanks for sharing
Oh really wow I did not know that!! Thanks for letting me know!! This aircraft had enough ways of hurting you when it was flying, haha now its deadly sitting still!! Thanks for watching!!
Love this tank I have the KV1 what’s on the back of the box from hobby master I’m hoping to get a KV2 one day soon to have the set 👍
Nice that KV-1 looks great!! I always liked how the Russians wrote messages on the sides of their tanks!! Happy Hunting for your KV-2!!!
A fancy pencil 😅
Its certainly sharp looking, haha Thanks for watching!!!
I think it was also called a "missile" for its interceptor role.
@@weldonyoung1013 and widow maker for a different kind of role, haha
@@heavymetaldiecast you must be referring to its "Lawn Dart" and similar nicknames.
@@weldonyoung1013 haha yeah this aircraft had a lot of nicknames, some not so good, haha
Um tanque brutal e assustador, Modelo Muito interessante .
Yes it is a behemoth, would have been a sight seeing this thing rolling at you!!
Um Hornet é sempre bonito😍sempre que vejo um lembro do filme, Atrás das Linhas inimigas💥
The first movie was great, the next 2 not so much, haha. Thanks for checking out the video!!
Lindo modelo.
It certainly is!!! 😁
You really need a B-58 Hustler to go with this(if you don’t already have one)
Waiting for Calibre Wings to finish theirs 😁 hopefully it will be ready for sale this year!!!
Really is a beautiful airplane
Yeah its a sleek one for sure!!!
