Slay the spire was a great big box game that had a very well designed box to make setup and tear down pretty quick, a great example of how to get it right….
Got this in last week, and got it to the table yesterday. the game is solid. it was a struggle to learn, but once we got it down, it was a blast. I agree about the rulebook, it was poorly laid out. Could have been condensed a bit. As for set up, once you get the binder built (no where near as intense as ISS Vanguard), it was easy to follow the instructions for zone exploration. The building of the map reminded me of Cthulhu: Death May Die. I agree about the cards, they need to have some bit of texture to keep from sliding on the map. The game play was solid and it did a good job with it's theme and elements. I look forward to continuing the campaign. Cheers.
As a Kiwi who lived in South London in the late eighties and nineties ( think east londoners, just as "tough" ) , it's just to test your metal. Stand up for yourself, take no sh*t ,you will do right - be well sorted . Only had some dislike with some west Londoners from certain areas, real bunch of snobby twats . Also don't take rewards that don't belong to ya , no one likes a sneaky little bast'd . Given that like anywhere and nice bunch of people. same as where I grew up in a rough school area, there was a brutal honesty. Was surprised when i went to university how more well off were in more ways deceitful - eg I'll be there to help you on Saturday and don't show. My primary school mates , Nah F off , got better things to do . Plus it you are a nice kind caring respectful person , 95% of people will like you. they may take the piss out of you , but they will genuinely look after you. just have the strength to be yourself
@@BoardGameBollocks Figured that, so didn't get the crap Londoners got when they went north to visit other places . As a kiwi never got the crap Aussies got as well
I had backed originally, then cancelled my pledge when they made core gameplay changes. But I'm glad to hear it's still a good game. I may pickup the core box in retail or second hand. But hearing about the rules and setup makes me glad I passed for now. I have enough games on my shelf shaming me for those same reasons, right now. Haha. Thanks for the review as always!
Happy to hear positive thoughts with this one as I wasn't sure about the initial campaign but took a chance based on the IP and company behind it. Well presented opinions as well, as is usually the case. Thanks!
I got this and Ive only played the Zone Survival standalone missions and been really enjoying them. I was surprised how much of the content in the box was dedicated to this game mode as well as the massive variery and replayability of it.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention! Great explanation of the mechanics. Short and sweet. Love Stalker Anomaly and the immersion. My potato cannot handle Stalker 2 or Gamma so this is a great alternative right now.
Thanks for the review mate, I'm hoping mine arrives soon as the boat is mooring today. I've got a group of victims lined up to play so hopefully it's a blast.
First time finding this channel! Liked & Subscribed after first watch. Makes me think of Bullet Tooth Tony from Snatch plays boardgames. I am here for the boardgame ride lol

@@BoardGameBollocks I’m just saying they make sense. Eventually after you read it all. Not that it was well presented. But man it just looked like walls of txt as I opened it. I hate reading complicated rules. I was relieved you liked it at least as I don’t normally play till I’m done painting.
Was there really a need for a 44 page rulebook for this? Definitely not…loads of fluff to cut out. Just give me the basics and maybe an almanac type thing like TI4.
If you're ever able to get your hands on Earth Under Siege: Flashpoint, give it a try! For me it's my personal Game of the Year so far. If you love XCOM the video game, this board game is basically that and the stealth gameplay is fantastic!
Stalker is an amazing movie I had no idea based on a short story. Can't wait to read. Great review as always. Given the movie, I can't imagine this will be in anyway approachable for a social game. Not sure which movie reference was better Sir Connery or Robocop. The ultimate demise of that character from Robocop is unparalleled. Verhoeven was a bit ahead of the curve despite some blunders.
@@BoardGameBollocks Well speaking of his blunders Showgirls was hands down his #1. Apparently there were two things in the cinema that night you can classify as unwatchable!
I just saw the price after the re-opening of the pledge manager, It's around 550€ to put on the table in one go for the all-in (except the collectors BS) with taxes and shipping included! You could have said that it was the price of a Ferrari wheel. 😅
I don't blame you, I blame myself for not being rich. 😂 I'm probably naive but I thought it would be around 350€ max with some kind of payment in several parts... When I pledge for Cyclades LE, I remembered thinking that it was certainly the top of the Everest to put that amount of money on a board game. Turns out you can still climbing...
Hopefully we'll see another chance in a future campaign to back it. Not convinced they tack this on to other Awaken Realms campaigns in add-on choices...
I backed this and something felt off maybe it was a bad taste from Lords of Ragnarok... Anyhow I'm glad you liked it gives me hope I never wasted £300 😆
The only thing that put me off backing was the inclusion of stickers. Did that still make it into the final product? Is this a 1-time legacy game as such?
Please i have question. I want play this game probably alone. It is good just for one player? Other Channel says that optimal experience is with two player Yours opinion please? Thanks
All counts including solo. Obviously time is extended with 4 players but not so much that it becomes a drag. In fact some games progress more quickly due to more actions being available each round.
With all due respect, Having the sleeved cards being impractical for lying still on board and catching light is not a game issue, it's a sleeve issue. And sleeves are not part of the game. So this one is kind of weird. Other than that, nice video and review, thanks.
Great review! Of one of my favorite sci-fi properties. I see you are a very learned man, not only did you mentioned the amazing novel roadside picnic without which there would be no board game, but you also gave credit to the surreal film Stalker and games, Bravo! see you in the zone. ☢

I think you are the perfect guy to review Stalker... You look like Strelok from the first Stalker game, Shadow Of Chernobyl.

The only thing that put me off backing was the inclusion of stickers. Did that still make it into the final product? Is this a 1-time legacy game as such?
Yes there’s stickers but there’s 3 sets in the box along with 3 maps.
Also maps and stickers are available on retail release
Also, they're entirely unnecessary and you can just write down the sticker information on a sheet of paper if legacy bothers you.
Please i have question. I want play this game probably alone. It is good just for one player? Other Channel says that optimal experience is with two player Yours opinion please? Thanks
I’ve played it solo and it’s great. You get more actions per round by default.

Yes
