I knew about it for the prop making, it gives metallic effects like nothing else, but may be hard to protect. Never even crosed my mind to try it for miniature.
Wet blending proving yet again that it's such a powerful skill every painter should learn. No need to wait. It's so fun and fast compared to eavy metal layers
I love that pencil highlight every time I see it. Crisp and easy edge highlight, damn quick. I use to "feel" like steps like this were a "cheat". I've gotten to a place where I've realised that, outside of rigid competition rules, whatever gets you to the end result that you're after is absolutely fine. There's no such thing as a cheat, there's just tools, techniques, and styles. Mix and match as you need, to get the end result you're after. You have encouraged me to be braver, for that I thank you.

It's funny how I prefer the painterly style to super smooth perfectly rendered digital style. Now if I could just get there in 15 minutes! Nice job Roman
Amazing paintjob for 15 minutes. This made me subscribe. So many little cool tips and tricks in one video. Just one question if you'll allow me: Was this a soft pencil? I couldn't spot it well due to it being out of focus.
Thank you and welcome! I bet you will enjoy the other speedpainting Videos too. The pencil was a HB, but you will see that every pencil you will use will work :)
Thank you for the excellent video. I found it very soothing and educational. I particularly liked the closeup shots at the end; They helped my understand the most essential lines and values of the face. Also sets my expectations for the quality of blends to expect with such a short timeframe. Thank you!
Glad you like it. There are more videos going through the same process of speedpainting on my channel. I know it is a different way and approach, but one that is really worth applying ...
Videos like this show why Roman is the goat. How much atmosphere and character can you possibly jam into a single, simple little 28 mini in only 15mins!? ❤❤
Thanks a lot. Well, I bet due handling miniatures differently from person to person I'd say consider for yourself what your pencil work needs ... varnish or not. Depends on how much you touch them models ...
The sheer amount of paint you laid down at the beginning is giving me anxiety. I'm not sure I would ever be able to paint quite like that, but I definitely do need to learn to be a little looser with how I approach things.
Love this Roman, but a bit of feedback - the phone screen kept stealing the camera focus so it made it a touch difficult to watch you paint the miniature. Very cool panitjob eitherway.
I'm curious about the first brown layer when you covered 90% of it by the black after. Does it have something to do with the wet method you use, causing the colors to blend and not be pure brown or black?
@@ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART Thank you for the reply, much appreciated. I need to learn more about the "Wet in Wet" step you made at the beginning, I imagined using standard acrylics would clog up any details. But it sure didn't. Are they thinned down a lot? Didn't look like it in the preparation. Such an interesting technique with very nice results. I'll take a look at your other videos, maybe I'll understand better how it works.
@turboclown I am working on a full in depth workshop in video format on this topic. I will teach one in December hands on to twenty students in my studio. I plan to film a lot of the explanation part and will do an intense m, high production value workshop later on. Not for free, but worth the coins. Promised.
If its a gaming piece it's good to finish with a varnish as all paints will wear off with continued handling no matter what type you use especially pencil .

@@MarkWidner Give it a try. I do not know. I did not use varnish and I might believe that the results vary on pencil and varnish you use. Experiment your own result is my suggestion.

The end result looks great, but unfortunately the mini is out of focus for almost the entirety of the video so I don't really see the details of what you're actually doing. EDIT: It is definitely better in the second half of the video
