Even on vanilla 06, people have been recently asking for this game's take on the Ultimate Life Form for a full-blast return, both in gameplay and most importantly, in narrative/characterization given the last decade of material used for him. In the Ultimate form of irony, the game that people have bashed for eons is the same game that has the community's definitively preferred version of this guy from a writing perspective.
Because 06 was always a good game under the glitches, sure it has many flaws but it's still in my top 3, and I did not play Sonic as a kid so it's not nostalgia

The reason SEGA couldn't truly finish programming the game by that time, is partially due to that they were trying to tackle gaming stuff, that was too powerful for the hardware at the current era of it's development, to handle. Yeah, the Xbox 360 was relatively strong, but the consoles that Sonic 06 was released on, including Xbox 360m were not strong enough to have a decent build of the game in the way they wanted it to be, done before the deadline. Had they waited for more years for stronger gaming hardware to come out, they might've not have had such issues with the game as severe as it was for development. Now, I'm wondering, what would a timeline of today would be like, had SEGA instead waited longer to have a decent build of the game made?
@@zigazav1 I believe that games with the gameplay style of Unleashed and Generations wouldn’t have existed, and if they were, they’d get made years later than they actually were. Sonic 06’s failure made Sonic Team realize that they weren’t able to make good games with the Adventure gameplay formula anymore, which is why Sonic got an overhaul in Unleashed. If this sounds familiar, that’s because the same thing happened with Forces. If 06 was a success, it would have been seen as a proper Sonic Adventure successor, or maybe Sonic Team would have attempt to make Adventure 3.
As truly incredible as P-06 is, I did want to mention that even just emulating 06 on Xenia and using mods to restore cut content dramatically improves the game. Load times become negligible, you can restore proper air controls, Shadow's chaos powers become actually useful, etc. Its not as good as P-06, but it's a great answer to those who say that P-06 deviates too much and that OG 06 was fundamentally flawed. They're wrong, and while I'll always dream of a world where an 06 was made with the budget and care of Unleashed, there'll always be people who see the potential in games like these and put their damndest into making sure others can see it. You're a legend, Chaos.
I love Shadow in P-06, to the point where I do think I prefer him to Sonic in it. His combat centered gameplay imo fits the new scoring system the best and even if his vehicles aren't good, I still kind of prefer them to Mach Speed. Here's hoping the Silver update lives up to Shadows; his campaign absolutely needs the most work

CAD E100s, but honestly, the post processing effects and treating your space with proper sound absorption do way more heavy lifting than mic quality. It makes a difference of course, but if budgeting is a concern, you can start with something cheaper.

Honestly the P06 Shadow might be the best version of Shadow yet, and probably the best we’ll ever see it’s so clean, a massive 1 Up from the original 06 Shadow. Clearly Sega couldn’t come up with something as good as this for Shadow so well done ChaosX, dude deserves so much for this. Can’t wait to see how he handles Silver. I think the reason this overhaul of Shadow works so well is that it sounds like a combat-oriented take on traditional Sonic gameplay- but instead of hoarding rings and looking for alternate paths, your extending combos and looking for ways to chain enemies together. It's a surprisingly simplistic and effective approach actually.
I loaded up sonic 06 on the 360 not to long ago hoping to reignite some nostalgia, but going back to it after 7+ years, I realized that the camera is inverted and there is literally no way to change it in the settings

Shadow's combo gameplay is so cool that I kinda want ChaosX to give Silver some new moves to spice up his combat and maybe make him a bit of a combo character as well.
I can see exactly what they were thinking with shadow and I love it. Literally the only problem was that there wasn't enough time to think everything through and test it properly. They want you to manage the amount of enemies (the chaos if you will) with the stun and carefully choose you will attack. Quick assessing things from the top down and then picking enemies off skillfully like an assassin of sorts. But everything is unclear and janky.
This version of Shadow is my favorite character in pretty much any adventure style Sonic game. Makes me feel like I'm playing Devil May Cry with how much depth they have crammed into him. One thing that wasn't touched on in the vid that I absolutely love is this: killing an enemy with chaos spear(even the base spear if you charge it) will actually let you land for a small bit and perform exactly one spin dash before ending your combo. With this you can do insane strings, especially with ramped spin dash jumps. I cannot wait for Silver's campaign to be finished, and I hope that he has as much depth!

It's such an incredibly useful tool for Shadow's score attacks and it opens up such a world of possibilities, and it was buffed too in the Silver release. The hop Shadow does can make it a bit harder to use sometimes but the timing is just a bit tighter after a spear kill into spindash, still very possible though!! The combo chain extensions that are possible with Chaos Spear is wild and really lets Shadow's whole kit shine.

Especially when you're explaining some part of the game or some point your making and then make a quick joke on the gameplay being shown (foe example, "woah keep your hands off buddy" or the "HEY HEY! absolutely in love with how well sonic and shadow compliment one another. sonic still has plenty of opportunity to rack up combos but his combat methods are a lot more straightforward (gems still exist and are more balanced but all you ever really need is the bounce and homing attack) and generally you're still more focused on blitzing through the stage for a good time. shadow, tho? i end up spending 10+ minutes in each stage just wailing on enemies and having an absolute blast with it. his gameplay is incredibly technical and rewarding in a completely different way from sonic that makes both characters shine despite being so fundamentally similar.
I remember as far back as 2008 playing Shadow and seeing that piss-ass excuse of a Chaos Blast and verbally going "That's it?" P-06 corrects a horrible wrong.
im torturing myself going through retail 06 for the first time and im already halfway through shadow's campaign so this video is right on time. listening to you talk about all the upgrades is making me cry this fucking game is abusing me emotionally and P-O6 is the therapy i need i kinda get missing the boogie. hate that thing but it does add some fun chaos. and rouge oh my god..... i did find her play style??? fun??? i was having some fun with it but just seeing her having actual attack moves instead of just throwing bombs that almost never land on the target hhhhhh straight out of a dream lmao
I’m going to be honest… Sonic 06 already felt like a “Shadow Game” as his story was the most polished out of the three hedgehogs. P-06 further cements the idea into the game in it’s entirety to be a “Shadow Game”. 2006, even in retail, had more of an emphasis on platforming and combat where speed is limited to scripted events. It’s kind of why I don’t think the Adventure Physics work with 06 level design for Sonic. Shadow on the other hand, feels more built for the kind of game design route the game has. So the fact that P-06 actually refined his combat alone made it the easiest to get accustomed to. This kind of gameplay works for Shadow as he has his homing attack and chaos powers, and it’s often stated in reviews that Shadow only has a “Slightly Higher Emphasis On Combat” so he still has his moments for speed especially with the added Spindash.
Shadow has had the glow up of a life time with P06. There is nothing more satisfying than going uninhibited mode at the end of Aquatic base right before the goal ring and just absolutely eviscerating everything in that last room. The squad of purple bird enemies all being wiped out with a single chaos blast that also persists long enough to also kill the golems therefore maxing out your meter again right before the end just feels so good.
I hope this eventually becomes the definitive way to play 06, including story mode and everything. I hope we see further updates that redesign the hub world.
One teeny tiny thing I really love that original PS360 Sonic 06 actually did originally, is that you now have pseudo-invincibility frames during your homing attack. In Adventure-Shadow, if you timed a homing attack a split second too early or too late with an enemy who could shoot at you, you'd be sniped out of the air during the homing attack animation, between the time you hit the button and when the attack connects. But, base 06 actually fixed this [likely due to how many enemies are in the game and how nearly all of them have ranged attacks], you can just ignore machine gun fire and even missiles to home in and blast some poor Egg Gunner or Iblis Biter into ragdoll oblivion. Shadow the Hedgehog tried to alleviate this issue by giving you your own ranged weapons, but since you're still vulnerable while firing or swinging, it didn't do much, more of just a band-aid solution. So 06 went in and fixed this and it's another thing that shows the potential the game has always had, potential only just now being realized a decade after release.

the work the creator of sonic p06 has done is nothing short of amazing cause he is doing a great feat to fix the most infamous sonic game ever launch and turning it into a great game not sure if theres anything he can do for the story but the gameplay being polished and making it fun could make up for the story cause sonic 06 already had great music and this project is giving it great gameplay fixing not only the main characters but the side characters too wonder what great changes silver's episode will bring

Gonna be honest, I’ve played through Sonic 06 multiple times, and I didn’t even know there was a chaos blast option until watching this video. Looks like I wasn’t missing out on much though lol. To be fair, I purposely avoided using shadow’s chaos boost moves just because 9 times out of 10, they would get me killed just because of how janky is was and they pretty much didn’t make a difference damage wise.

I never would've imagined that I'd live to see the creation of an unambiguously awesome version of Sonic '06. Absolutely wild.
I’ve never played 06 for the obvious reasons but I can immediately see how much more fun the fan remake looks. I actually feel compelled to play that because it looks FUN.
It's been a while since I watched one of your videos but this was incredibly entertaining, had me engaged the whole 14 minutes, your writing and humor is great, thanks for showcasing how Project 06 is doing, I haven't been keeping up with it.
Bro i love the format in which you tell jokes in all your videos! Especially when you're explaining some part of the game or some point your making and then make a quick joke on the gameplay being shown (foe example, "woah keep your hands off buddy" or the "HEY HEY! I see you there, keep it moving" to the buggie).
It keeps me engaged and cracking up every time. Keep it up man, i cant wait to see how you iterate on your humor 💀💀💀

absolutely in love with how well sonic and shadow compliment one another. sonic still has plenty of opportunity to rack up combos but his combat methods are a lot more straightforward (gems still exist and are more balanced but all you ever really need is the bounce and homing attack) and generally you're still more focused on blitzing through the stage for a good time. shadow, tho? i end up spending 10+ minutes in each stage just wailing on enemies and having an absolute blast with it. his gameplay is incredibly technical and rewarding in a completely different way from sonic that makes both characters shine despite being so fundamentally similar.
Fun fact: Omega has the highest run speed of all 9 regular playable characters in the original '06.
I remember as far back as 2008 playing Shadow and seeing that piss-ass excuse of a Chaos Blast and verbally going "That's it?"

im torturing myself going through retail 06 for the first time and im already halfway through shadow's campaign so this video is right on time. listening to you talk about all the upgrades is making me cry this fucking game is abusing me emotionally and P-O6 is the therapy i need
i kinda get missing the boogie. hate that thing but it does add some fun chaos. and rouge oh my god..... i did find her play style??? fun??? i was having some fun with it but just seeing her having actual attack moves instead of just throwing bombs that almost never land on the target hhhhhh straight out of a dream lmao
I’m going to be honest… Sonic 06 already felt like a “Shadow Game” as his story was the most polished out of the three hedgehogs. P-06 further cements the idea into the game in it’s entirety to be a “Shadow Game”.
2006, even in retail, had more of an emphasis on platforming and combat where speed is limited to scripted events. It’s kind of why I don’t think the Adventure Physics work with 06 level design for Sonic.
Shadow on the other hand, feels more built for the kind of game design route the game has. So the fact that P-06 actually refined his combat alone made it the easiest to get accustomed to.
This kind of gameplay works for Shadow as he has his homing attack and chaos powers, and it’s often stated in reviews that Shadow only has a “Slightly Higher Emphasis On Combat” so he still has his moments for speed especially with the added Spindash.

Your little side comments are on point. I rarely chuckle out loud but you had me on multiple occasions hahaha.
Shadow has had the glow up of a life time with P06. There is nothing more satisfying than going uninhibited mode at the end of Aquatic base right before the goal ring and just absolutely eviscerating everything in that last room. The squad of purple bird enemies all being wiped out with a single chaos blast that also persists long enough to also kill the golems therefore maxing out your meter again right before the end just feels so good.
I hope this eventually becomes the definitive way to play 06, including story mode and everything. I hope we see further updates that redesign the hub world.
One teeny tiny thing I really love that original PS360 Sonic 06 actually did originally, is that you now have pseudo-invincibility frames during your homing attack. In Adventure-Shadow, if you timed a homing attack a split second too early or too late with an enemy who could shoot at you, you'd be sniped out of the air during the homing attack animation, between the time you hit the button and when the attack connects. But, base 06 actually fixed this [likely due to how many enemies are in the game and how nearly all of them have ranged attacks], you can just ignore machine gun fire and even missiles to home in and blast some poor Egg Gunner or Iblis Biter into ragdoll oblivion.
Shadow the Hedgehog tried to alleviate this issue by giving you your own ranged weapons, but since you're still vulnerable while firing or swinging, it didn't do much, more of just a band-aid solution. So 06 went in and fixed this and it's another thing that shows the potential the game has always had, potential only just now being realized a decade after release.

the work the creator of sonic p06 has done is nothing short of amazing cause he is doing a great feat to fix the most infamous sonic game ever launch and turning it into a great game not sure if theres anything he can do for the story but the gameplay being polished and making it fun could make up for the story cause sonic 06 already had great music and this project is giving it great gameplay fixing not only the main characters but the side characters too wonder what great changes silver's episode will bring

This is gonna sound crazy but Shadows levels, his combat, chaos boost/powers and the point system really makes it feel like I'm playing something similar to Devil May Cry
Gonna be honest, I’ve played through Sonic 06 multiple times, and I didn’t even know there was a chaos blast option until watching this video. Looks like I wasn’t missing out on much though lol. To be fair, I purposely avoided using shadow’s chaos boost moves just because 9 times out of 10, they would get me killed just because of how janky is was and they pretty much didn’t make a difference damage wise.

I feel like the time between "alright" and "see ya" gets longer with every single video, it's both hilarious and distressing
