I think the new mechanic really helps Gief out. In sfv he'd already have lost 1/3 or more of his health chip damage from blocking or gray health from vskill armor by the times he's able to get in from all the zoning.
Right? A lesson on being patient. 99 seconds is a long ass time. And no matter how much time and effort it took to get in on JP, the round never ended by timeout. And there's definitely a life lesson in that.
I remember first seeing him make a statement with orange pants Gief in ST HD Remix, he won EVO 2010 for that. I think he preferred ST, but then learned SF4 because of the competitive direction.
This is the best Zangief player of all time. He's been a top player for this character in SF4/SFV/SF6 and won Evo for SF2. People who do not play SF6. Have NO IDEA how hard it is to beat a good JP with Zangief. But, Snake Eyez made it look easy.
I only played the two CBTs and even I know how hard it is to beat JP. The recent tournaments showed how tough it is to deal with his zoning game. Snake is just on a whole different level. Other Giefs would most likely be blown away.
This fight taught me the importance of staying neutral and holding your ground. Keeping that pressure on. As a chun player I back myself into a corner a lot.

It's gonna be a good Capcom cup. Snake Eyes had some great matches to spectate back in the SF4 era. I stopped following competitive during 5 but I think I'm back.
Congrats to Snake Eyez 👏👍. I mean, holy F, I played a bit of Gief (got Platinum 4 rank) and the matchup against JP is just so frickin hard to the point it feels like 7-3 mu. But Snake Eyez played veryyyyy patience and proof that nothing is impossible. Anyway. With Gief won CPT US and Kim and Ryu won World Warrior JPN and Germany, Capcom Cup X definitely will be really interesting to watch.

Snake Eyez is hands down the best Zangief. He has the perfect range for every move, he has such a mental fortitude. Hardly countered so he make that buffed HP works. So much attention to detail. Yes, Reynald lost his composure and made many mistakes and questionable choices, but it goes to show how SE Gief gets in your head.
As a Gief main True Gief inspiration really makes you slow the game down in your head and analyze each opponent, everyone talks about our hugs but looks at JPs kit lol straight zoning

@@Amaling snake eyez is in the top top top percentage of fgc players who also so happens to play a low tier character. there are few characters in the game that can carry a new to mid level player much further than the rest, one of those being jp. to say the average player needs to focus up is dodging the fact that jp does need nerfs of some kind, as does the other top 4 or 5 characters. if you play any fighting game, its a given that you would try to get better at it despite the obvious disparity in character balance. you cant tell everyone to ignore the glaring issues of certain characters and to simply get good like the pros.

He was famous for it in 4, famous for it in 5, and is hella famous for it in 6. Zangief needs buffs. I wouldn't say it's the weakest he's ever been, but you FEEL the absence of Green Hand and Flex Parry.
One way I can tell 100 percent its the real Snake eyes is the way he plays on low HP as an ultimate bait vs zoners definitely a vintage tactic from him!

Even as a grappler player, gotta respect Reynald's tricky approaches. Good on him for recognizing and conditioning Snake to never expect an approach and pull it out to win a few rounds. Off meta characters tend to win with lack of MU knowledge so props to him for the confidence and playing a smart game (especially in a GF match). Even though it ended in a reverse 3-0, fantastic game by both players.

I'm noticing something about this game, well in general but mainly this game, what splits apart good players is how you play in long sets, try to play people in FT10s or above and you'll see most people just can't but they'll beat you in a FT2 FT3 with no problems, it's like they're scared of being downloaded...and then you have gdlk players they'll just smoke you in a FT20 FT30 lol
Sorry but its not about abusing characters, those you mentioned are easy to play. The problem is that people don't want to struggle to play the game, and that's what playing with zangief awful tools is, struggling all the time.

What Reynald messed up with is the lack of forwad roundhouse as an anti-air. People get 25-30% damage from it easy. Since I'm a Zangief main since World Warrior, I'm glad he didn't. 😃
if there's any Pokken player around here, which is almost a rarity, you'd understand the joy over this mach :) combine Zangief and Honda and you basically have a Machamp. This is exactly how you'll feel encountering a high lvl Machamp player. God like parries, undisputed patience, making its way through little steps and against all chances wooping your ass BIG TIME. Braxiens, Gardevoirs, Gengars and Darkrais (JP), Machamp will just smeshh.

@@quarium5681 I don't care who players pick. It's up to them. But when you pick JP, Ken, Luke, Guile, or Juri, YOU HAVE TO WIN YOUR MATCHUP. No excuses. You can't say you are at a disadvantage. When a player picks the worst character (generally speaking) in the game, and wins a major tournament, he gets ULTIMATE respect. When you win a tournament with one of those 5 that I mentioned, you are a good player, but you SHOULD win. Reynald should be embarrassed for getting 3-0d in that second set. I don't care that it was Snake Eyez on the other side.

I'm noticing something about this game, well in general but mainly this game, what splits apart good players is how you play in long sets, try to play people in FT10s or above and you'll see most people just can't but they'll beat you in a FT2 FT3 with no problems, it's like they're scared of being downloaded...and then you have gdlk players they'll just smoke you in a FT20 FT30 lol

What Reynald messed up with is the lack of forwad roundhouse as an anti-air. People get 25-30% damage from it easy. Since I'm a Zangief main since World Warrior, I'm glad he didn't. 😃

if there's any Pokken player around here, which is almost a rarity, you'd understand the joy over this mach :) combine Zangief and Honda and you basically have a Machamp. This is exactly how you'll feel encountering a high lvl Machamp player. God like parries, undisputed patience, making its way through little steps and against all chances wooping your ass BIG TIME. Braxiens, Gardevoirs, Gengars and Darkrais (JP), Machamp will just smeshh.
