That Shimano blue braid looks really slick. I just picked up the 5000xg for surf/rocks, paired it with a 10' 6-10kg T Curve surf, can't wait to have it in my hands.
I absolutely LOVE my Stradic FM. I paired it with a 7' St. Croix Tournament Legend medium power fast action rod and this is an awesome inshore setup for Reds and Speckled Trout!
@@Dasher904 G Loomis used to be top notch but since Shimano bought them they have leveled off with other top brands. I love Shimano reels but their rods are just ok. Bulls Bay and Fenwick are very good though.
Great review, the best field review I’ve seen to date! There are many bogus reviews of the Stradic FM where the reviewer doesn’t fully understand the new technology in the FM and makes misguided statements or recommendations. Full disclosure, I do love my Stradic FL 4000 and will keep it. Thanks!!
Hey I believe this was a compliment? If so I appreciate it and I haven’t actually checked out any other uploads on the Stradic FM, everything was my personal views on the product. I’m glad you’re happy with the FL, its a hell of a reel thats for certain!
For sure a compliment, appreciate your honest and thoughtful approach! I’ve read and watched what I could on the new FM as I need a 2000 and will get one when available.
I would say the Ultegra. Anything above the Stradic I guess would no longer be considered mid tier despite the twinpower being just a little more than half the price of the Stella which is the highest end reel in shimano’s lineup.
Thanks for the info , sounds like its worth the money ( like a pal always told me "you never see a U-haul connected to a coffin" spend and enjoy!@@FishingOD_OFFICIAL
Mine also have that friction and free play in the handle...also alot people have this problem even content creators keep saying "so smoooth" because they are sponsored...
@chemareasalbaticiei Firstly I’m not sponsored & it truly is smooth. Just because it’s noisy does not mean it is not smooth. A reel in this price range will never be as smooth as an 800-1200$ reel. Mine has no free play in the handle. You need to get that looked at.
Drag system yes, gearing yes, drive power yes & the Sustain FJ has no anti twist fin. The only thing the Sustain has over the Stradic is the CI4+ body (lighter but less durable) and Rigid support drag which strengthens spool support on the main shaft but the actual drag system on the new Stradic is superior.
@@FishingOD_OFFICIAL Fingers crossed if I can sell my sustain lol. Not looking good for me haha. The Stradic is an impressive reel for the price. Great review Zach!
the FM is only good if one has never tried the FL beforehand. Shimano (and other reels) seem to make a good reel, then the next time they come up with a new one for that model, make it worse, so that the model thereafter appears better than the last once more, over and over again.@@FishingOD_OFFICIAL
I can’t decide between the FL or FM. I read a few Negetive reviews on tackle warehouse about play in the handle and gear set on the FM. Experience any of this?
@@lukehuelskamp4140 Haha no I really haven’t. I feel like with any company you risk getting a bad egg. My FM personally handled high numbers of massive Smallmouth without any issues and is arguably the best reel I have owned to this point.

@@Dasher904 Awesome choice! It really is a great rod.
What reel size did you get?
Best review i have seen on this reel. Great job.
Really good explanation of the technologies in the reel
Looking at either the vanford or fm in a 2000hgs what are you thoughts on both reels.
Going to use it as a flats reel here in Australia.
Definitely get the Stradic!

Imma buy a 5000 xg im so glad
Im looking at between the Stradic fm, or vanford, for bass or pike what do you think?
I mostly shore fish for smallies and walleys using cranks and jigs, if you can only chose one, which would you recommend? A vanford or stradic?
Stradic for sure.
What size reel is that
The video demonstrates how the stradic sound is extremely loud right out of the box; the reel is smooth, but the volume is a little high.
What are the other core solid line up reels in the mid tier?
I would say the Ultegra. Anything above the Stradic I guess would no longer be considered mid tier despite the twinpower being just a little more than half the price of the Stella which is the highest end reel in shimano’s lineup.
@@FishingOD_OFFICIAL I believe the ultegra has CI4
@@butterkingu it’s considered core solid
@@FishingOD_OFFICIALah I see
The real test would be downhill Southwest Florida huge Jacks huge Snooks huge Reds and huge tarpon now that would be putting it to the test
Definitely agree! I’m a northerner though unfortunately!
@@FishingOD_OFFICIAL yeah but for the record that real would be just fine because I'm doing that with the ci-4 pluses
Upgrade the bearings and you stepped it up more. That's what I do on all reels.
Review of Curado?
Which?
Like that review- any idea what it sells for? Based on that review i would love to pick one up.
Around $319.00 but you might be able to find em cheaper.

@@FishingOD_OFFICIAL is that Canadian? cuz American currency they're $229.99, but I see you're on St. Lawrence so I figure that's Canadian rate.
Do you find the sound while dragging a little strange or is it just me? Like there is some unhealthy friction.
