  • Hey everyone! Thanks for tuning in for another video. This video was probably the longest pre-production video due to the amount of time it took to put each reel through its course. Although it was the longest, it definitely has been my favorite video to make due to the amount of fishing trips and memories created on each trip. You're right about line capacity. My Daiwa Ballistic MQ 1000 holds a lot more line than my 2500 Twin Power. I fish Florida saltwater. It's easy to hook something bigger than what you expect and nice to have more line to get the fish stopped. I also run a Ballistic MQ 3K and a 6K BG MQ. The Twin Power (over 2X the price) and the 1000 are my favorites and travel w/ me. I do wish the Shimano held another 50 yards.

I bought a Daiwa Lexa Lt in the same price, i took it at the sea side and it's still in a very good shape . I fished it since one year almost everyday , no maintenance done yet . That aluminum body does wonders .

I immediately take apart the Daiwa reels and put more reel grease around the gears. Have several reels from Japan Salamandura and Caldia. Never have maintenance problems after that. I own lots of fuego reels, after 2 years of use still going strong. I have replaced bearings in 2 reels, very cheap and easy swap work like new. I fish 3-4 days a week from a kayak, saltwater. Key, rinse reels, oil side bearings, bail and main post under spool.

Stradic on top from personal experience. My procyon al lt 4000 got destroyed while my friends stradic fl 5k is still fine. I wish daiwa would use stainless or brass instead of zinc gears in $200 reels

Shimano uses brass and aluminum on all their reels, and they have absolutely perfected their cold forged gears. Zinc gears has seemed to hold up beautifully on daiwa reels from personal experience, the issue for me is the internals, they get much looser than shimanos after time and the higher end daiwas with aluminum gears actually dont last as long as the zinc gear reels, i he a certate LT 3000 that crapped out on me a month after heavy use, my fuego lt is still running years a year later and much smoother.

What happened to your Procyon AL 4000 LT ?????? That's an aluminum body reel and has a machined gear that is the best gear Daiwa makes !!!! Zinc gears are on cheaper LT series reels. Reels over $ 200 have a machined duraluminum gear which is very strong and very smooth as well. Only Penn uses brass on brass gears on their large SW reels. Shimano Stradic FL has brass on forged aluminum gears. Most companies use zinc on Brass pinion gear. Daiwa has the best zinc gears right now. Let me know what happened to you reel ?? Tight Lines !!!

@ they just have some soft gears. I guess i was putting too much torque on the reel but cmon i could do that to the same sized stradic with no issues. Big fish light tackle problems 🥲

If you look at reel manufacturing today to 70 years ago the build quality is a thousand percent better but component quality has gone to crap. We consider aluminum a top quality gear material when back then it was for junk and brass or steel was the standard. Pressed steel was standard but brass was top of the line. They use zinc now to save on weight but really it's to save on cost. If they wanted to save on weight they could just use cast skeletonized brass or MIM skeletonized 316L stainless steel.

Awesome review, however, it is worth noting you csn get the tatula ma lt in a shallow spool which sould most likely help it get thpse 1/4 pz and under lures out there more.

Testing the balance of both reels in a 1000 size on something like a 6' TFO ultralight, the Tatula felt a lot better on the rod than the Stradic. If at all possible, test each reel on your rod in the store to see which is right for you. I went in thinking Stradic and walked out with the Diawa.

I have both and 10000% the Tatula MQ is a better reel. The way it feels, casts, fights fish are better. The Stradic looks nicer, but performance the Tatula is the winner easily!

Thanks for your feedback! The Tatula MQ is a great reel for what it is and I enjoy that reel. In my several months of fishing both, the stradic is what worked better for me - it covered a wider range of applications for me. The only thing that the Tatula did not do well was in casting anything lighter than 1/4 oz. Other than that, both reels are very identical outside of the MQ LT being lighter.

So, if there are no screws on the Daiwa, how do you service it? Also, that Shimano spool size makes it look more like the 3000 than the 2400. I've held the 2500 and the spool does not look that large! Good review!

In canada the Tatula MQ LT is 250 bucks and the Shimano stradic is 320. that is a massive price gap. the fact that they are being compared for the difference in price alone almost gives the MQ LT the win. I noticed people complaining about some sort of knocking stuff with MQ reels and daiwa reels in general so I'll have to see how that plays out. I do notice a slight side to side play if I wiggle the metal part of the handle. I have not noticed it while fishing. (I was a shimano boy last time I was fishing) this time around I went all daiwa well see how it goes I guess.

    • @ShinkiZer0
      @ShinkiZer0 6 месяцев назад

The knocking can be fix by opening the body and tightening the screws to the main gear and add some blue locktite. The handle play wil be lessen as well.

I've landed 25lb+ stripers on my 4'6" microlite rod with 500 series reel and this is only possible with the ability to backreel. Both of these reels are no go for me now in their latest iteration without an anti-reverse switch. Shame it is so hard to find. I understand that most anglers do not use it, but for some of us it is the main feature used to fight larger fish.. When I hear a spinning reel drag screaming I immediately think line twist and that the person fighting the fish does not know what they are doing.

so with a 7 foot medium fast rod you would still use a 3000 rather than a 2500? even for normal/small game

    • @ChewyThaoFishing
      @ChewyThaoFishing  7 дней назад

Yes! I would still go with 3000 size. It’s preference at that point. Not too much of a difference between 3000 and 2500 besides line capacity and handle

I find in very interesting that you never see the Pflueger Supreme-Patriarch line included in these comparisons. If you did they would wind up being the pick of the three 9 out of 10 times. And the supreme is $170.

  • @helterskelter156

Line capacity is hugely overrated. Actually, having more line capacities on such a small, light duty reel is nothing more than a waste of line.
People even put spacers to allow for less line waste.
If you need lots of line, and are fishing the ocean, then you’re using much larger reels. Those Shimano reels have plenty of lune capacity.
Shimano focuses on efficiency, instead of just putting high numbers on paper and appealing to the folks who make their buying decisions based on the paper instead of the actual reel feel.
Same with drag. Much smoother drag startup on the Shimano then the Daiwa. It allows you to use lighter line while minimizing break offs when you’re setting the hook on a big fish.

    • @ChewyThaoFishing

I agree to some degree! I do use my bass tackle for salmon fishing and I’ve had instances where my line would run out while fighting a big king salmon. That would really be the only reason why I prefer more line on a spinning reel. I don’t have dedicated salmon rod/reels.

@@ChewyThaoFishing I’m located in the Pacific, and catch hundreds of salmon a year. If you’re using a small reel like this for kings, then you’re doing it wrong.
If you’re using the appropriate tackle when targeting salmon, and you still find that 100 feet of line isn’t enough, then again - you’re doing it wrong!

      @@giand5719 Haha. Cool story.
I use anywhere between 20lb and 50lb braid.
Reviewer says he doesn’t fish in salt water, which generally means that he catches kings in rivers. In a river, if you let more than 100-150 feet when you have a king on the line, then your chances of landing it are extremely small.
Btw, I caught 20lb salmon on the fly, having let out no more than only but a bit of backing.
Again, if you need that much line, or 100lb braid, then you are doing it wrong.

@@helterskelter156 If your fishing Lake michigan side you will need the line capacity, but then again get a dedicated salmon reel at that point. 3000 will do ok when they are black but not when they are silver. Worst if you end up snagging one. Then again if that happens it goes back to getting a dedicated 4000 reel for salmon.

Casting distance has NOTHING to do with line capacity, only design/spool diameter/length and line lay mechanism.
Also, if you are concerned about line capacity, why are you comparing a 2500 Stradic as opposed to a 3000, which are the same reel except for spool capacity? This is just silly.
