    Thank you for the video. Definitely helpful. I brought 3 of the MQ. 1 BG 4000 which i had to send back. Started binding upon reeling. A tatula 2000 MQ, which i use for perch and small spinners. No issues and love it on a tatula rod. The last one, tatula 4000, just got it in the mail, with a bent bail wire. Debating on getting a stradic when i take it back to get it replaced. They are great reels, light, smooth but all that doesn't matter if they dont work or last.

    I have two ballistic MQs and I never thought about this issue so I had to check. After examination there is very slight play. I wouldn’t call it a knock. It’s not audible. I’ve had my MQs for a few years now and I love them. I use exclusively daiwa spinning reels and shimano casting reels. Just a personal preference and a braid to leader guy.

    I have a bunch more expensive spinning rods, but I do very much enjoy this 7'1 MH Fast. I'll move up to 15# braid to a 12# leader where I need a bit heavier/stronger line, and when I can do a job with spinning vs. casting, I'll go with spinning every time. I also have the non-ags Elite spinning in the 7'3 M, extra fast (Howell - shakey head/underspin) and absolutely love that rod. I have a couple AGS spinning rods and enjoy them too but they're kind of a headache being extra careful with those guides (although I've never had a problem with them). You talked about somewhat diminished sensitivity but on par for price point but imo that softer tip (which I love about these rods) kind of covers for that dimished sensitivity because that tip offers tremendous feedback while deflecting bottom when dragging. I haven't felt regret in purchasing these non-ags models. I think they're great, and not just for the price point!

    Just checked mine. I just got mine in May and haven’t used it hard and do notice what you are experiencing with yours but it doesn’t click as much as yours. Most expensive spinning reel I purchased is my Shimano Vanford 3000 and I really like that reel.

    Great video always look forward to your gear reviews. I wonder if it’s the ZAION-V body that they are using in the lower end models that doesn’t hold the gearing tightly together, unlike the Exist and Certate use the standard ZAION.

    • @nawinchester
      @nawinchester Год назад

      That could be an issue for the new MQ reels, but the Kages are made with the original Zaion material. So that would be what is causing the Kages to knock. And I have noticed the same thing on some of my JDM Zaion body reels. My 2018 Caldia LT reels developed this same knock Brian points out. For some reason Daiwa reels lose some of their tolerances and that is leading to excessive play in the gears that you feel in the handle.

    I have several Daiwa Procyon LT reels and all have far less handle play then my Shimano reels. I have Stradics, Ultegra, Nasci, and Sahara reels that all have the play you're showing with these new reels. A little disappointing to see from Shimano, but again seems like most brands have similar issues, but at least both Shimano and Daiwa have no other issues to talk about. They stay smooth over time, with exception of Nasci that feels a little geary when retrieving hard lures. I think most these issues can be solved by adding a thin shim on the gear side. I had to do that on a brand new Penn Battle 3 DX, it was way too sloppy from the get go. Cheers

    Alconite rings are fine, but I wish spinning rod manufacturers would put tangle free guides on all their spinning rod builds…the tangle free guides are superior to the outdated guide frames of yesteryear….I’d imagine it’s a cost issue why all spinning rods aren’t built with tangle free guides today…gotta keep costs low for low/medium priced spinning rods.
    About the reel knocking….I don’t have those two reel models of Daiwa, but I have a certate and a couple older model non-monocoque ballistics…no knocking on the certate, but there is some play/knocking on the ballistics….I did modify the reel handle on my older ballistics (added ball bearings instead of shims to remove handle play, but slight frame/body knocking is still present, but it really doesn’t bother me…the ballistics are still as smooth as they were the day I bought them 5 yrs ago)…..startup inertia on my old ballistics is superior and quite noticeable compared to my 18 stella J series reel….the lower gear ratio of the ballistics and an air rotor add to the easier startup inertia.

    The knocking sound is fairly common on daiwa spinning reels. I have some LT reels that also knock when retreiving.
    Once a reel gets some usage, that's usually when it gets more loose and has play in the handle and rotor.
    Like someone mentioned above, its a tolerance issue. Sometimes a ultra thin sim will help. Sometimes it makes it too thight.
    Shimano spinning reels seem to have a slightly better tolerance with their gearing. None of mine are as noticeable as my Daiwa's.
