- Hey house lovers and explorers! This video is back in the suburbs from a few months ago where I filmed an early 40`s art deco influenced building consisting of side by side units. One side was left in a hurry with a lot of stuff just left behind including lots of toys in the shed. The other unit left in a very clean and well presented manner showing the original state of the units as there were built.
I travelled past this building every day to work and have been familiar with it for 20 years as it resembles the same build and era style of my former units residence that has also been demolished a few years ago. Hope you all enjoy the walk around. Cheers for watching :-)
Amazing, one side looks move-in ready & the other was occupied by pigs. 😢
Such cool apartments.
My friend lived in 'Apollo' approx 35-40 years ago. It was in lovely condition back then and she made it nice. Many a good party was had in that house. Brings back lots of memories. 😊😊
I bet it was cold in those units at winter time. I expect these got demolished and another form of accommodation replaced it. No you can’t have the Barbie stuff!!! I take it Ruby is not going to get her Barbie stuff back.
A lot of the stuff left behind could and should have been donated. I don’t understand why/how historic buildings like this can be torn down when there is nothing structurally wrong with them
Why? Greed and lack of refined education, simply put.
First half: real estate walkthrough 🏠
Second half: crime scene video 👮🏼♂️
The rough stucco finish on the interior walls was a cross over from Spanish Mission style, popular at the same time as Art Deco.
That first one was beautiful the second one was sad the people destroyed that beautiful place
Nobody builds home with this pared down and yet charming Art Deco style anymore, it's truly a local architecture heritage loss when one of these get levelled...
A lovely cup of tea and an explore before work. Perfect 🙂❤️
Renter one was clean, renter 2 knew he wasn't getting his deposit back, with various damages I saw. Love the look of your old homestead .. thanks Paul!
Well u broke my 💔 knowing there tearing it down I’m sure I was born at the wrong time great video 🇦🇺
Talk about chalk and cheese! The different energies between the two units was clear. Do be careful Paul....there were medi swabs in the open top drawer of the wardrobe in the first bedroom and as you panned left on the top of the wardrobe, there was an empty syringe packet. Possibly indications of intravenous drug use. It could explain the lack of care and neglect ..... or just typical squatter chaos. 🤗
Cheers Vicki :-)
🌟Oh my gosh what a beautiful art deco unit love it, your previous unit was beautiful too loved it. All the character and art deco features. I guess it’s going to be demolished soon? such a shame to see go. Thank you so much for the tour. ❤😊🌟x
Hi Megan, yes demolished months ago unfortunately. Cheers for watching again :-)
I’d imagine that getting a place built during the war would be difficult due to capable military age men off fighting and resources being redirected to the war . I’d be interested to know. Still enjoying your work mate.
Older men can still build. They were tough as back in the day
I originally thought it was a factory. Not exactly homely. But I thought your old place was fab
Deco at the time was also called 'The Age of Progress' so factories, houses all the same futuristic style.
LOVE art deco!!!!!!!!!
Hello from France !
It’s a beautiful Aer Déco house ! ! Whith a exotic touch for us , européens !
Merci 😊
Bonjour, compatriote!
Triste !
Cool video mate! ❤️👍🤘
Hi Paul
The difference between these 2 apartments is like night and day. At least the
people in the first one took all of their belongings and left the place sort of clean.
It seems like the people in the second apartment left all the toys and Barbie dolls
behind. What did you mean they left in a hurry? Were the police after them or
maybe bill collectors.
I think you upset all those birds. They were quite vocal when you were outside
but when you went in they stopped. Maybe you were close to their nests.
After demolition do you know what they will build there?
Nice work Paul. You always give us your best. Stay safe and well.
Give your 3 cats a pet on the head for me. Nikolai, Noah and Tux.🐈🐈⬛🐈
My Chloe who went to Heaven is up at the top of the page. He loved his
box and laying in the bathroom sink.
He was a handsome boy, still is.
This is a really unique looking style of house but it is very nice
on both the outside and inside unlike the ones in the rural areas
this house is in a busy area with a lot of houses and buildings
around it but i really like this style and look of it the yard was very
nice as well the grass needs to be mowed though and I just hope
that they do something worthwhile with the property this was yet
another great episode and the other side which had things left behind
in it was quite a sight, have a great week and can't wait for the next episode and the next abandoned house Thanks.🇦🇺🇦🇺🤟🇦🇺🇦🇺
Cheers Roger! Thanks for watching again :-)

🇦🇺 Have a wonderful week Thank You.🇦🇺
I love the artdeco houses 🏘. The first one was awesome and the 2nd one was messy. I love the one that you used to live in
Thanks for sharing 👍 😊 😀 ❤❤
It would be interesting to see the new building that will be put on the block. Quick follow up video would be awesome.
Reminds me of the tv show, the Odd Couple, you can easily tell which side was Felix's and which side was Oscars.
Do you prefer to live in older places. If you had a choice.😊
Older for sure Mava :-) The old Units I kind of just rented to find somewhere quickly but loved it there so stayed :-)
Glad it worked out. Have a good week.
Congrats....vastly better than the last posting.....
Great 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️🤗😺👋
Life has been crazy lately, so it’s wonderful to sit in a quiet place and watch an explore. That first side was beautiful, I hope the floor boards were salvaged.
Thanks once again, Paul, for a sneak into these wonderful places
Thanks for sharing this fascinating little time capsule. Do you also have a vid of your old place? It looked absolutly stunning from the outside.
Hi Omnivorousreader :-) Yes I have lots of video of my old place and the building around it that were demolished but I have not put it all together and uploaded it yey. soon though :-)
@@urbexindigo5164
Lookin forward to that!
👍🤠
@@urbexindigo5164 I look forward to it! You have excellent editing, btw.
I really liked this video, havent seen one like it before.❤️👍🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed Gayle :-)
What a bugger😮 that Polly pocket gear is still very valuable to collectors!
So are the vinyl records...
I loved your old place. They dont make them like that any more do they?!
Certainly dont Mari :-)
Visited someone who lived there many years ago. They worked for the Advertiser at the time. Lovely old building.
Fun fact, these units are actually called a maisonette 😅☺️
I think that was turned into low income government housing at some stage and they sold it off to developers. Just gives me that vibe from somebody that grew up in low income housing
Yep you are correct. The dividing front fence also typical. Cheers 👍
Thanks, Paul. I should beat myself with a birch branch for not getting to watch this until Monday arvo! Not like me to leave this long. 😄I'd happily live in the left side unit but wonder the reason/s the other unit being left as it was. Did they not pay the rent and had to leave in a hurry? With the quantity of children's books/toys etc, did mum leave with the children because of circumstances? I guess we'll never know ... anybody else have a theory?
Gee it’s in good condition for old place. My parents had same kitchen. Air vent holes in the kitchen cupboard doors. And separate bread cupboard with mental fly mesh attached. Also had to dark doors and door jams dark internal windowsills they might be ex government housing.
Marvelous art deco duplex. I liked the photos of the one you lived in also.. ❤🤠
I was watchin "He built his utopia by hoarding everything!"
I've fallen behind on my Urbex indigo but catchin up!
👍🤠 🇺🇸
Somebody out there doesn't like art deco.
That’s s real shame they destroyed such cool historical buildings
its going to be sad when all these beautiful buildings are gone
Sad to see the empty block at the end. These units were part of history, it seems that the new generation would like to erase history in all forms as it offends them.
cl valiant 77' front panel
Damm is it. I couldn't tell. I was thinking a dodge front end ..good call 👍
I have been loving your videos, I was an Adelaide girl, and I used to catch the 610 bus into the city and passed the beautiful art deco one you lived in every day. I was back last year for my fathers funeral and was so sad to see so many loved houses gone. I lived in a little bluestone 4 room cottage with extension on Anzac hwy for a few years before moving away. Thank you for capturing these old beauties before they are torn down.
Hi Beth 😊 great to hear you are from Adelaide and recognise the old units I lived in. Yep Anzac hwy ain't what it used to be. Glad you are enjoying the videos 😁👍
@@urbexindigo5164 Yep, born in Gumeracha lol. We lived near Belair until Ash Wednesday fires then moved to the suburbs. I couldn't get over some of the changes, Glenelg and the tram going all the way down King William St. Was sad to see Vic square looking so different. Was very cranky that they don't run any of the old original trams.
That was a paper mashay doll, not a voodoo doll otherwise it would have had pins in it 😂
Loved the first unit 😊. Great explore 👍
Delphi was an ancient religious sanctuary dedicated to the Greek god Apollo. Must be how they come about the names
Cheers Ian :-)
I loved the first unit with all its original features and the bedrooms were very big. The shaving cabinets built into the wall have made a big come back in newly built homes.
I had that popcorn record 😊
the town I live in is the Art Deco capital of the world in New Zealand
What is the name of it?😊
Urbex Indigo my friend those places look amazing the second one was really messy but thanks for sharing i am from the U.S.A and i will always show support to your channel and God Bless and thanks again.
😊Hola desde Colombia
Judging by what’s left behind when was last occupied, perhaps, relatives?
Nice small unit type places still in ok condition shame they are getting torn down ...I like what your place looked like shame that it had to go like so many on ANZAC HWY. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, MM :)
Interesting buildings. But oh boy those windows are small. What a waste of kids toys, movies and lp's. 😢
Nobody waved a wand in 1939 and said Art Deco was over. You can see it into the early 1950's. I appreciate you don't say influenced in the actual video.
Two trips out to the car with the dvd's when you've finished filming LOL One side of the homes left clean and tidy the other looks like a dump. Which one would you have liked as a landlord? Grab the kitchen sink too- scrap! It was still in reasonable condition and would have rented out easily. very little to maintain too.
Paul I love Art Deco. The later phase of the movement was referred to as Streamline Moderne, (which is having a revival here in the US), and many of the houses you show are in that style. Less ornate than Deco with horizontal lines, curves and an almost machinelike quality like like a ship or locomotive. Water Fall homes are an example and these units. Love your vids so look forward to new ones.
Talk about not wanting anything lmao
Pretty to leave so much behind gggeeezzz
That building was clearly bought at some stage By SA Housing trust the kitchen cabinets are SA housing trust units, as are taps etc in the bathrooms.
Thank you Paul for the cool explore. First one looks original, nice to see.
💜☮️
Yeah, not a bad pad but not alot of features quite plain for a art deko place, but it still holds its own....in architecture....😊
Another cool place gone to dust mate, those records could of been saved and wow all those toys all could of gone to the opp shop cheers mate another great explore.
It would be interesting to see the new building that will be put on the block. Quick follow up video would be awesome.
Many people died from CV shots, so who knows the women could have passed away.
Bonjour d'Occitanie (France)
Great video always enjoy your video thanks ❤
Hi Paul another great video, love the art deco , pity that people don't look after the property. Love the place where you use to live. Can't wait for the other video. Cheers deb
are you Ethan from THE TOURIST ? lol
Very nice and the first one is it bigger than tne other well maybe all the crap left being but the had a great back yard wow thanks
Has a similar military living in block rooms.
The second one there on the run or now locked up 100%
Another super cool place
Past few places have been some kind of wow. And the video work has been great lately. I'm on the bandwagon for save John. Good music, good video.
Cheers Melinda :-)
These units were in good condition considering they were built in 1942.When I saw the little fence I thought maybe housing trust with the second side it makes sense. They most certainly made homes to last in those days not like the shoe boxes they make today really enjoyed this video thanks Paul.
Another duplex gone forever. Thanks for the explore Paul😊
Now i cant get that popcorn tune out of my head ..thanks paul 🤣
Me too 😂
I tried to stay away but it's too late.
Thanks. 👍🥺
Quite the architure and design, clean etc.
Goofus and Gallant tenements.
Thanks for the tour Paul!
