- Hey house lovers and explorers! Happy Easter! :-) Another video I have had for a while is this explore of and old Church and Funeral Home. The entire site was purchased and is being redeveloped for high density living. Been busy juggling a few thing of late but have plenty in store still just need to put them together! Cheers for the support and thanks for watching :-)
Those steps with tiles around them are for Baptist ceremonies, where that whole section is filled with water and people walk into the water & then back out again after being baptised.
Yes definetely a church that practised full immersion baptism. The outside of the church looked so similar to the Church Of Christ in my childhood town in Western Victoria. Probably same builder.
In recent times I saw a church conversion into an extravagant home where the immersion font was converted to an infloor aquarium. Looked amazing.
Yes, it was obviously a baptistery, although they may have had a cover of a floor for a stage or raised platform. I’ve gone to both kinds of churches. Several had very large and beautiful baptisteries with doors that closed across it when it wasn’t in use and a short glass wall on the front so you could see short people (kids).
I was just gonna type that, and I saw u. :o)
I was thinking the same when i saw the cut plumbing and the tiles. The alter/ stage would have been in a different spot.
In the middle of a funeral home the tree root coming through is a nice reminder of survival
Hi Fiona :-) Yes it must be the fig tree! :-)
@@urbexindigo5164 Yes, well known for invasive roots.
Thanks Paul, it's always a pleasure to relax and watch one of your explores. I reckon the Crosby Memorial Hall foundation stone was on the red brick extension on the back, taken from the cutout left of the white doors at 29:36.
I found a bit of history about the Prospect Church of Christ from 1955. The congregation started gathering in 1893, land was donated and the church was opened in 1905. A kindergarten room was added in 1915, more rooms in 1921, and the Crosby Memorial Hall added out the back in 1949. Turns out that Miss Annie M Whitfield was the last survivor of the group that started meeting in 1893, so she must've been a good age in 1949! The source book was from 1955 so it predated the mid-century facade. I couldn't find when the church closed. Cheers!
Glad you caught these before they got demolished. They did a really nice job of converting that old house into a funeral home. "High Density Living" -- sounds like code for extremely ugly buildings with shoddy features that will not age well and will not last half as long as the beautiful buildings they replaced. Keep up the great work documenting these so future generations can see what buildings and homes looked like when people really cared and craftsman took pride in their trade. That's not a small stage in the church, that is a Baptismal tub, it would be filled with water and was used for Baptisms. Thanks for sharing!!
Cheers mate! Yes good call on the High Density Living lol :-) This strip is rapidly becoming very bland looking.
Happy Easter everyone. Thanks for sharing of beautiful old buildings sadly being demolished for ugly high rise development. Australia has destroyed a lot heritage buildings so there is nothing for the next generation to enjoy. 😢Thanks for video these beautiful old buildings UrBex Indigo.👍🏻
"Heritage building" 😂😂. It was an abandoned death trap, an eyesore just taking up space. This isn't murica or Europe lol, other than SA and NT, good luck finding abandoned houses. This is why councils and land tax exist and have always been around.
Must be exhausting being as angry and as miserable as you are.
That looks like a water baptism pool!!!
That's exactly what it is 😀
New subscriber to your channel as of last month and really enjoying the videos, such great commentary too for those of us who aren't Aussie's lol. I'm in Texas and spent my childhood summers in far East Texas at my grandparents house, a late 1800's home built by my great-grandfather, one of two doctors for the surrounding area. It's so interesting to think what things were like back then, and so great that you seem to truly enjoy the rich history these old homes/buildings hold! Thanks so much 🙂
Welcome aboard the channel Becky and thankyou, glad you are enjoying these explores! :-) Yep I find these old places all around here very interesting and even when the floor are pulled up it can allow for even more things to be discovered :-) Cheers and stay tuned :-)
Isn't it amazing how we drive past something so often we miss it because we take it for granted. Now I know what was in that allotment that I've driven past for year's. Now I just watch the depth of that space getting deeper for under ground car parking that will service the apartment block. Another area of Adelaide where Era buildings are rapidly falling and being replaced with square white blocks. Takes away from the heritage that made these area's what they were. But thanks again for sharing Paul & Michael.
Happy Easter to you both. 😊
Cheers Helen! Happy Easter to you too :-)
It's great to see this older video of the church and funeral home
that has since been torn down to see what it looked like before
it was demolished both are interesting to explore especially for
a funeral home and a church, i hope that the redevelopment for
the property is going well but great to see this and as always this
is really very interesting have a wonderful Easter Sunday and until
next time take care and Thank You.🇦🇺🤠🇦🇺
Thanks again Roger :-)
Happy Easter Paul,I am glad that you were able to show us another Funeral home and Church. They are doing the same thing were i live in North Carolina tearing down the beautiful homes and building up these fancy Apartments ever were.
Hey Paul. That tree root under the old villa is probably comming from that massive fig tree.
Happy Reserrection Sunday!
It is so sad to see that the old church has been torn down. The funeral home was interesting too. It would have been a beautiful home back in the day, most likely where the Pastor resided. The fig tree was huge! What a shame that it has all gone now.
Happy dyslexia.
Happy Easter Paul. Thanks for this different explore. The fig tree is laden with fruit, yum. Shame the windows aren’t intact, would have been nice to see them
Take care, don’t work too hard x
Happy Easter to you also . Love your channel .
Thank you so much! Cheers for the support! :-)
Im sure theres plenty of history in this old church and hall, plenty of community in these areas back then. A common place for many weddings dances and more. Life is a juggle sometimes, but thanks for giving us fans your time!
"drinks for men" Something one won't see on a bottle these says. Probably illegal.🤣
Haha! Oh the Woke overlords would be up in arms and wagging fingers at the brewery to say the least!
Urbex Indigo thanks for sharing this video with me about Church and Funeral Home now demolished. High density living going up everywhere! it was really interesting the stairs you showed me with the pit was a place the chuch baptized there members that what that was use for.that waswhere they added the stairs too i just wanted to let you know and i am fromthe U.S.A and i always will enjoy your channel and God Bless.
Evening from Great Yarmouth Norfolk England , happy easter Paul , thanks for another great video, love them , keep them coming , all the best x
Hi Donna and good evening to you too :-) Thanks for the support and for watching, glad you are enjoying :-)
Happy Easter and thanks for adding. You may find that the commemorative stone was for the original building behind
1litre Fanta glass bottles had the ribbing on the top of the bottles up till the 80s
Happy Easter Paul. Thank you for sharing. It's always sad to see the vacant lots after the demo. Hope all is well with you. ❤
Happy and safe Easter 🐣 Paul and thank you 🙏 for continuing to provide interesting content. 😊
the stage looks more like the baptismal to me
Good evening from OklahomaUSA.Happy Easter Paul .🐰🙏❤️👍
Same to you Gayle! :-) Cheers for watching
Well, this is a bit different. There are quite a lot of things to see here nice discovery, cool to see the old bottles and things on the base ground. one bites the dust. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, MM :)
What a shame that these developers are not held accountable for their plans more often. I sure the council didn't know about that old fig tree. It's great to see all the old buildings thankyou for efforts 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
🌟Hi Paul, happy Easter to you, wow this is different very nice love figs nice character building. I agree I love the tin roofs too especially when it rains. Thank you for the tour. 😊🌟❤️x
Thanks so much Megan and to you also. :-) Yes this road is transforming into a grey box avenue of honor! lol Cheers for watching :-)
RIP Fig tree . Such a beautiful tree it hurts to see it gone, 😥😥
The tiled section with the stairways either end looks more like a baptismal tank rather than where the Minister would climb to the stage
Hello, always look forward to your videos.
Glad you like them Michelle :-) Thanks so much for the support :-)
I believe the brand of the bottle of tomato sauce was Kingurli, had this sauce on the table when I was a child.
Thanks for sharing this video. Happy Easter 🐣 everyone ❤
Nice under floor history, Williams Beverages were up the road from me on the corner of Murray St. and Price Ave.Mitcham ..big old galvanised iron factory, long gone.
Thanks for the info 😊 I wonder if the history society has any old photos of the factory 😁
Hi love your videos a great insight into the history of Aussie buildings. Just a quick mention, in the spot 21.09 this is actually a baptising bath where you could be baptised by the priests. There is a building in Ballarat that featured on one of the Grand Designs shows, I think that it was a Presbyterian Church, that also had one of the baths in it. The fella put a sheet of glass over the top of it rather than dig it up and loose that piece of history. 👍
Cheers Lyn, it seems so obvious now you have explained it 😊 Cheers for watching 👍😁
I believe the feature that you were calling a stage was a baptism basin which is usually located behind the Alter.
No wonder its been demolished funeral business is a dying trade now.
Thanks for the video, I used to sqat there, have a great week 😊
Cheers mate, no worries! A spacious place to squat for. Thanks for watching :-)
G’day mate! Interesting explore, almost like a documentary. Shame to see it demolished. Cheers again 👍😎🇦🇺
Hello Paul and Michael I hope you both had a great Easter🐰🐇 I have never seen a tree root like that under a floorboard that was wild great video thanks a lot take care love from upstate New York❤😊
Thank you! You too Nancy😊 thanks for watching 🙂👍
Happy Easter to you too! I always love your videos.
Last summer I put up (canned) about 25 half pints of fig jam. I can't look at fig tree without thinking about that.
Wow d.parisi thats a lot of jam! Nice work! :-)
Yeah, that was a little different.....Good...yup all for high density living..Keep up the good work....
Happy Easter to you and your, My Lord is alive.
The stage area you show would have also made a baptism pool as well. Sham on the church organisation, selling it.
Another great Vlog, that stage area where the steps were is the original baptism bath, performed in certain religious ceremonies, cheers from Downunder ❤️🦘🦘🦘🇦🇺
Happy Easter, Paul! 🐣🐇💐🍫
Happy Easter! Cool video mate! ❤️😘👍🤘
Happy Easter ! Thanks for another great video ❤
Another fine tour Paul!
Stayin tuned! 👍🤠
Notes:
17:51 Notice the red brick dust on the cornerstone's face. Some commenters mention it came from the left of the hall's doors at 29:35, I belive they're right, there is also masonry saw dust around that opening.
21:04 lift the stage and fill with water for baptisms.
We are lucky in Australia , compared to the USA or UK, that it’s unlikely you will come across any bodies that were simply stored and left behind rather than buried or cremated in old funeral parlours.
Now that would be an interesting find 😊👍 cheers for watching 🙂👍
Re previous comment

To come back to life in the future
Happy easter to all. :o)
The stairs going down behind the stage was for baptisms quick dunk and your done
That corner stone was out at the rear of later extension next to the double white doors last 2 mins.
Thankyou! I definitely did not notice this 👍😊
Heh, I should've read all the comments before noting exactly the same thing about an hour ago!
Good video Paul I've been following u for years and i love all of them u have come a long way since u started yr channel I hope u are around for quiet a few yrs ❤❤❤❤
I appreciate that's heaps Pamela thanks so much. 😊👍🙂
Where you said the stage was, I believe it was the large font for baptising adults & children. In other words a pool with usually a wooden cover over the top. To make it muti use.
A wise old man from ancient Arabia who existed and suffered the deaths of all ten of his children and endured an excruciating illness , pondered his life and he wrote - ‘there is hope for even a tree ‘ ; how they regenerate miraculously and spring back to fruitfulness after trauma ; so how much more so is there hope for humans who have died , to come back to life
Wise word indeed Julia :-) Thanks for watching
Happy Easter 😊
Happy Easter love your videos
Hi paul, happy Easter to you, sorry a bit late to reply. Hope to hop to it quicker next year. Thanks again for another great video. Cheers Deb
I hope you have a good Easter 🐇🐣. Take care.
Awesome video and I think that under the stage in the church looks like a baptismal pool as it was tiled with steps going into it and a metal fitting at the back.
That was a really cool 😎💯 explore
Bonjour d'Occitanie (France)
Enjoyed it thank you ❤
One day these guys will look back at themselves and think, What have we done, Ruining such good condition buildings for high density living. And hopefully the fans got saved/rescued/reused. (Because I am a fan collector) Also. In future videos, When you enter these places, Can you take camera shots of the fans (As you go along and there's a room with a fan or 2 in it Point the camera up/at them and zoom in), Mainly old ones because I have noticed a lot of cool old ones that are probably now little squares of scrap 😆. Thankyou
Looks like prospect road.. hmm 😊
Spot on mate! :-)
@@urbexindigo5164 I went to prospect primary.. lol
well it was a beautiful place such a shame
I wonder what fig trees say when you bump into them?
Haha! It did sound like the intro to a joke hey! lol :-)
I feel sorry for the fig tree!
My sister loves figs
she eats them straight
off the the tree. my neighbor
did the same thing it was dark
and went to eat more the figs
were covered in bugs.😱🤣
🤣 oh that's not good lol
I was waiting for that tree root to grab you and wrap around you then we would have a good old horror video. Oh well.
What's a "toastie" and is it worth $5?
🤔 🇺🇸
Hi John 😁toadted ham and cheese sandwich 😊👍
@@urbexindigo5164
Ah, grilled ham and cheese here! 🇺🇸

Like a grilled cheese
