I currently have one right now, (1 month in) and i dont feel any type of discomfort when turning the screw. First few weeks were kinda wack cause i couldnt talk without slurring my speech or eat without feeling uncomfortable because of food getting stuck. After that, I PROMISE it gets WAY BETTER. I often forget i even have it. Some tips and things ill share to people starting their RPE Journey: 1. EAT BIGGER BITES NOT SMALLER ONES. (it might sound counter productive, but smaller bites will just get more food stuck in your expander.) 2. START TO PRACTICE YOUR TALKING ASAP WITH FAMILY MEMBERS OR A MIRROR. 3. Once you widen your expander, less food gets stuck. But it DOES NOT mean you widen your RPE as many times possible. Simply follow the dentist/orthos advice and you'll be good. 4. Get a pack of ibuprofen to counter the pain. (I personally dont feel any so i think im good lol, gl to everyone else tho)
@@Kelvin_1812 i just got mine what i do it swallow at lot when im just like sitting in class and stuff and once you do it a lot you will naturally find it comfortable again but what i do it push my tongue really tight at the top of my mouth and then swallow
I got really “lucky” and they caught my cross bite when I was about five, so I did not need this device, instead they used a more simple device where a wire fit the middle of my upper palate and I’d go to the dentist frequently where they’d “straighten” the wire little by little. Hurt like the dickens but it worked and I didn’t need a key for it.
So my friend just got one of these in, and she ask me to adjust it for her, not telling me the hole isn't shaped such that the tool can't spin around inside hole. So here I was, spinning this tool in a round hole ever so slowly, thinking I was adjusting it, but doing absolutely nothing, constantly asking if anything hurt. Then we found this video and we're both still laughing like idiots.
Its not as noticeable as you think, you wont get a MEGA big difference BUT what little change it does make to your face is always good. It always ends up making your face look great, even by just a bit. so dont worry too much about the face chane
It's a little harder on adults. Not discouraging it because it makes life much easier. Small children's top jaw hasn't grown together yet so it separates easier.
The short answer is no, at least not the kind of expander you see in this video. Adults require an expander that is screwed into the top of the palate, and at your age, you’d also need a surgeon to cut the palatal suture. An expander like in the video that is just connected to the teeth doesn’t work on people whose palatal suture has fused, which is around age 14 in girls and age 16 in boys.

Terrible instructions. I had to go to another video to actually see and hear the dentist explain how to use the turn key.
This isn’t instructions
This video is just explaining what it is
