“ its all mine because i paid for it “ i felt that
On a spiritual level
That's exactly what I say when someone tries to come at me for wearing box braids or a weave. "I had to sit a certain amount of time to get this. I paid for it, so it's mine. Mind your damn business. " lol

"I'm not a good black person if my hair is straight?" That touched me so. I love my hair straight (with a hot comb/flat iron). I love the natural curly look on others, just not on myself. I so love this show!!!
This touched me too. I wanted to keep my hair straight but menopause said NO! So I gotta rock this natural hair. Lol. Oh well.
@@bettinabrown9429 why menopause made your hair curly ?
This episode really hit home with me. I have a 10 year old daughter who wants to wear her hair straight. She thinks that when her hair is straight she feels prettier. She doesn't understand that she has black hair and it is always going to revert back to it's natural state; that's why we keep it braided. When the hair is braided it makes life so much easier for me and my wife not to mention it looks better. I tell her to embrace her blackness; it's Gods gift and anyone that does not like it or teases you about is not worthy to be in your company...
But she's only half black...
@@creolito9600 I have NO idea. It only happened to one other person I know & when she told me I laughed & figured she was lying. Now I just let my hair do whatever. I just wash it, dry it & oil it. Lol.
The little girl who plays Santa Monica is exactly like her grown-up self on blackish.
She so is. hahahahah i love her.
Such a good fit
Best character on the whole show, funnier than EVERY character in grown Ish 😂
James Ten no 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shortblock Flexinit Lol yess she is
With one question Santa Monica addressed what is happening to day in the argument between naturals and relaxed hair..you are a good black person..no matter how you decide to wear your hair. ...deep.
Georgia Lenny yesss😊
I'm so sick of every one tripping about it, just wear it how you like and what looks good on you.
I look better with straight hair and I love it. Some don't look great with natural hair and don't like their hair that way. I've always had my hair straight and usually wear braids about half the year and its always been healthy.
But some people and this trend, (I see it as a trend)are out of line and then you have a lot of biracial ladies saying how they struggle with natural hair and everyone knows that's just a lie lol. My hair is like Oprah Winfrey and their is no way in hell hair like hers in its natural state is the same as someone like Mariah Carey. So yeah I can't say how irratating it is when shows try so hard to "fake teach" the public about things but instead they do a terrible job. I am not sure how many black women work on this show but they are really failing at portraying any truth.
I know it is sit com but it seems they would want to represent things in a better way. I mean the son with that terrible braided wig.
Dang The Walking Dead did(does)a better job with its black female characters, Sashas hair looked like it should have looked, considering everything that is going on
Ok rant over lol

Georgia Lenny That’s how naturals and some black men make you feel!
“So I’m not a good black person if my hair is straight?” I felt that right there. Too many people down others for getting straight hair. I’m natural and occasionally I’ll get my hair straightened and get snide little comments saying I’m trying to be European. No, honey, I’m not, I’m just checking the length and shaking it up every now and then.
White man what are you talking about you are just stirring up discussions you no nothing about. White people always want to be in every discussion about black people if they can find a so called negative.
c104 ark what are you talking about? 😳
@Child Of The Sun what drugs are you on? I need those!
lillost straight hair is the standard what are y’all talking about
Child Of The Sun
Kinky hair might be the standard during the stone age, but it isn’t in our modern setting. Standard means “norm”. Most people have STRAIGHT hair so it is the norm. You are correct about one thing though, straight hair and fur are no different, because human hair and animal fur are chemically indistinguishable. Let me dumb it down for you since you probably can’t understand such a big word, it’s the same fucking thing. Don’t fight discrimination with discrimination because it just makes you look stupid and ignorant. 🙄

I have never seen this show before but your comment made me scroll back up to check his face and go 'ooooooooooh' :p Need to go look it up online as it can take forever to get to my country, if it ever does (they did show Black-ish on fox here but just saw a clip a they are much further along now then I ever saw)
Being a mixed woman who rocks a good lace front I love that line. It is mine because I paid for it. One of my best friends is a white woman and she told me that my hair was at mine because it's fake. I just told her by that logic your shirt isn't yours.
Haha good one! Why must ppl give us grief about our hair? Like, mind your business. White and other non black people, like JLO and Ariana Grande, wear wigs and hair pieces, I mean "extensions" all the time. It's not a problem unless we do it. 😂
You know exactly what she meant. Shirts don't grow out of people, but hair does.
I'm so grateful for mixed-ish. I identify with the show as a bi-racial woman. And I'm so glad they did the hair discussion. I had a difficult time in my life dealing with my hair. This is an important discussion for bi-racial kids to see and everyone else

@aBXANneDoned InTheUSA it's also how mixed people were often identified as black especially during times of jim crow where some black people would "pass" as white by straightening their hair to have access to a better life. My grandmother recalls jobs making people do a water test by wetting her pressed hair to prove they were white or not.
@Jane Doe so true

Ya'll should remember this tv series is set in the 80s where black issues like our hair ,our culture were not really appreciated by the society especially by white people so don't make the woman portraying the mother look like she doesn't acknowledge she's black back then being mixed was an issue. Do I expect more from the actors? Yes ,Do I expect a better storyline that doesn't portray black people(and white people)as the bully or the aggressive one ? Yes .let's just give the show a chance without bashing it and see how it turns out to be
meh our culture has always appreciated mixed folks. especially the women. i don't know what you're talking about.
@@elisejackson2854
Exactly, remember pebbles, Jane Kennedy, vanity, Vanessa Williams, and MANY MANY more. We were not as clueless as this show tries to portray.
The thing is that is part of the storyline. All of it from blackish to this one is centered around making the big issue of this race centered.
@@elisejackson2854 you do realize the act of being mixed could easily be punishable by death right? Just ask Trevor Noah who couldn't even really walk down the street with both his parents

That isn't Bow's Mom, that's Dre's.

I aint calling nobody no form of ‘-ist’ or ‘-ism’ but we need to do better with casting. Period. Point. BLANKKKKKK
I am loving Alicia's outfit
Also in the state of California it is now illegal to discriminate on the basis of hair
Jessica Victoria Carrillo Exactly. It was even referenced in the episode.
Now? Please site the law that gives people the right to discriminate on basis of hair?

This scene means so much to me. I love this show! I love all 3 of the “ish” shows!
My opinion on hair is the same for clothes, makeup, and tattoos: It's your body, your final word.
Oh my gods do I identify with this. Brings back memories of crying on the barber chair when I had a knot in my hair. My daddy yelling, "what, you wish you were like one of those white blond boys with straight boring hair?!" Zach from saved by the bell is such a good actor
I'm full black not mix (long as you don't count my great great grandparents... lol). But as a full black person that's not mixed I love this show because the issues relate to black people as well. Or in other words this show is something that I can relate to. In fact the only show of all of their shows that I watch is Mixedish because it's the only one that I can connect and relate to even as a black woman.
@Kai Evans I don't think nobody is about to call themselves mixed just bc they have 10% DNA. Also I don't know where this notion came from that we all have one nonblack ancestor as I know a lot of black people who literally were 100%
@Crystal Love great great great grandparents are irrelevant as It only takes three generations to completely wash out your black or white DNA.
Especially because of colorism and texturism.

Paul's reaction when she took off her wig...😂
Is that Mark Paul Gosslar from Saved by the Bell? This looks like a cool show
YES!
People really having arguments about hair in the comments below, like y'all missed the whole point. It's not about being light skin or dark skin or even middle brown with this or that hair. It's about being a unite and understanding that just because you like your hair a certain way doesn't mean everyone has to wear it that way. And there are too many comments about how light skin people set the natural hair standard when no, it's just the natural hair standard for black people was set to be 3c or less because black people themselves have had a hard time accepting 4 type hair. We have to love ourselves and each other before others can see our beauty. So stop arguing and enjoy the show

I'm a Hispanic dude, so I can't exactly relate to this. But imagining growing up and being looked at not only by students, but by teachers or other adults, and having them judge me or blame my parents because they see some part of me as being Wrong or Ugly, that kind of shit shouldn't be happening anymore.

I think biracial kids with black moms have an easier time growing up. They dont struggle as much with their black identity. They dont struggle as much with their hair because black mom is more likely to know how to do it than white mom. Biracial kids with white moms and black dads usually have a harder time. One of the reasons is because the black father usually abandons them and they are raised without knowing their black side and black culture. Many times they end up bitter with an identity crisis and emotionally unstable. Mixed black kids with a black moms and white dads have a more solid family foundation, seem happier and have less emotional problems where they are taught to love and embrace both sides. They seem to have an easier time befriending black people especially black females. They are more likely to experience the best of BOTH worlds. Many times I can tell when a biracial person has a black mother because of their attitude. They seem more secure and humble. Plus, correct me if Im wrong but it seems people are a little more accepting of interracial relations with bw and wm than vice versa, so theres less stress on them and their family. It may not always be easy but im sure its definitey not as hard as being raised by wm and bd.
I agree not just on the hair thing but you can tell when a biracial child has a Black mom
I think it’s messed up to say all black dads leave. Look at all these famous mixed people and a lot of them have blacks dads who stuck around

Sante’s hair is giving me life
i would never perm or straighten my niece (asian/blk) hair bc it can permanently damage a child hair growth. I just let her natural afro go free and i think its soo cute with a headband = ), i would braid it, pin with bows or any accessories. I always teach my niece to love her natural hair.
The little girl is so cute 😍😍
I absolutely feel both sides, wear your hair how you want to. But, DON'T treat your natural hair type like it isn't beautiful! Curly or straight if you feel great you look great.
But, usually the issue is black women don't want to deal with, know how to take care of, and show no appreciation for their curly natural hair. Some really hate having black hair especially if it's coarse, or "hard to manage".
For me straightening and relaxing my hair only ruined my curl pattern so I never did it again. And just went on to be natural and learn to take care of it. It became easier the more I learned about hair. So do you.
@That One And, watching the scene where her aunt even told them that their hair was basically, not pretty or seemingly unkempt. For a picture day proves both of our statements.
@S. Holliday There are studies being done about the harmful effects relaxers. Below are links to just a few studies that were done on the effects of relaxers on women just in case you or anyone else is interested. One of which is a study on the hair relaxer use and the risk of uterine fibroids. Yeaaaah, as a biracial person I really like this show so far for the most part but they kinda stumbled a bit here with the “you’re still a good black person” line. Language is important. I think the hair conversation is such a broad topic in general. I think that’s why it was said the way it was said. Two black women could have had the exact same conversation. I think the hair conversation is less about being mixed and more about having textures that are not straight. That’s the problem I am having with this show so far. Mixed people want to be accepted for being all the things they are but black people get portrayed as monolithic on this show. That’s a huge problem.

Me and a few other cultural bloggers had hoped that with the issues being aired on the ABC series Mixed-ish, an avenue would open up regarding ethnic hair, it didn’t, there are still just as many women in straight haired wigs as before appearing on news programing…and climbing thru the roof on television dramas and comedies too, even on this show, which is called, remember, Mixed-ish…
