- Sweating it out on the rowing machine is a great cardio workout, and unlike the treadmill, it's usually sitting empty so you can hop on and get working at any time. Added bonus: the rowing machine also works the upper back, arms, legs, and, yes, even core. And while it may seem like an obvious movement, there's definitely some technique involved. Watch as endurance athlete Josh Crosby from Equinoxteaches us how to master the stroke and shares his tips for maximizing this workout.

Good to see a demonstration by a real rower who knows what they are doing. Lots of people use the rowing machine with poor technique and there are even videos on RUclips which show incorrect technique.
I've been rowing for 3.5 weeks . I am addicted. Rowing works my breathing . I notice rowing helps with my running.
This machine is excellent. I'm recovering after knee surgery (result of a gymnastics injury 35 years ago!) and the rower is perfect to give you a good workout without impact.
LOVE this video!...I have started using the ROW at the gym ...great tips! TY
THANK YOU GUYS!!! I am now confident to use this machine at gym now!!!.🙈😀
Thanks for the great lesson in proper rowing technique. I'm going to try this in the AM.
I have this rowing machine at home. It’s awesome for me, a mum of two wanting to do some low-impact workout to get back into shape 🔥
Where to buy this
I'm very pleased with this row machine. My 15 year old had it put together in less than an hour. Machine works great!
Wow, I love the equipment.
I agree with the comments " this is one of the best sports EVER! ". Rowing is a full-body exercise.
Thanks! Good tips! You two are awesome!
Wonderful, you made rowing look so simple. But it's that easy, yeah not impossible also. Thanks for making the video 👍
Great video. Thanks.
Excellent instruction
Best tutorial I've seen, thanks!
My gym has a couple of these machines. Been wanting to try them but I have new workout anxiety. Gonna give it a try after seeing the video. Honestly. Seeing how the screen worked was huge
Just a tip, any exercise you do you really should be using a tight grip, builds your wrists and forearms
This A1 model comes with a wider feet gap than a classic one. Is that better for joints?
Lol get a room you two ;)
Thanks for the great instructions!
Lol good one
hehe funky cool looking rowing machines!
nice intro about rowing machines , shared!
I can't look at this now and not think of house of cards and Mr Kevin Spacey LOL!
I bet Frank Underwood wached this video haha
Great! Thanks!! :-D
how many minutes should you water row. is it good to do after an elptical 35min work out. how many calories or weight can you lose if you do it daily or maybe every 3 days. how many minutes should you do it?
Lol, literally the first video I clicked on is by Josh, whom currently working with Apple Fitness+. Going back to the same wonderful instructor I guess.
Looks like a good workout and I'd like to try it, but is it easy to fall off the machine on the pull back? I just joined a gym and I don't want to bust my head open or embarrass myself. lol
Yup, I tried it and I wasn't injured!
SimsGirl4Ever
Thanks for the update I was worried
Can you move arms and legs at the same time in sync?... watched so many different videos already, still can't decide which way to do it...
Never move both together. Legs then body then arms and then reverse - arms, body, legs
I wouldn't mind a little more push & pull :)
Rower here. Be careful of that "C" back when you come up to the catch. Chest should be lifted, sitting up straight.
Thank you,. I've been rowing incorrectly for a year. Are there any other videos of the correct form you can refer me to?
Not really.

please tell which machine was that?!
Water Rower
I'm thinking about getting one of these because I was just diagnosed with pots I read this is one of the safest ways to excersise with pots they're a bit expensive though :T
What # water level does a beginner start with?
can this exercise build muscles too?
Firman Harianggada It can. You will build strength and lose fat so your muscles will show better. You will not build much muscle size rowing. Muscle growth is obtained by lifting heavy weights.
A rowing machine class is the best for weight loss.
I believe it that too
Here would I get one
Question: Can someone recommend a way to use this machine with one arm? I am recovering from a broken wrist and really miss utilizing my rowing machine? Kindest ~
May I know the price
I always used the rowing machine but the wrongly. Im going to the gym right now..
She can ride my rowing machine anytime 😊. Big up from Scotland
House of Cards brought me here
+Giggidygiggidy12 I bought a concept 2 instead of a water rower, but house of cards got me here as well! haha
My concept 2 got delivered today for home use!
+Giggidygiggidy12 Tried and bought Waterrower becuase of House of Cards too, absolutely love it! Lost 46lbs in 11 months rowing. Well worth the money.
+TheCompulsiveCanadianGamer I salute you sir!
+Jester435 How are you enjoying it? I'm thinking about these 2 as well. Don't have much space in the apartment, not sure which one is better in terms of space and features.
+Miguel Almeida I have been using my concept 2 5 times a week and an outdoor hike on sat. It is amazing and the concept 2 is perfect for small spaces. I swear by it. Great full body workout. I am a big dude, so I am trying to do as much aerobic as possible. I was 6'2" 315lbs and now I am 263lbs.
I have to 2000 meters in 10 mins and 30 secs it was so hard i have to more chances and i hope I can make my time
You can use Unflexal instructions to learn about workouts guys.
"OK now just do that 100 more times and you will have burned 23 calories."
If you row like this in the video, you actually burn more calories than running (unless you run 6 mph or faster). I typically burn 700 to 900 calories an hour. 100 strokes should be four minutes, so you do the math...
Ive been looking for a rowing machine like this but can't seem to find one that doesn't look cheap.. Anyone know where I would be able to find one like this? or the one that Francis uses in House of Cards? (looks similar to this one)
Concept 2 make the best ergometers (rowing machines). That is what pretty much what all rowing teams use including collegiate and Olympic teams. They are quite pricey and I would recommend using the ones at a gym or buying used.
sam hope you may find distribuitors at www.waterrower.com In Mexico we are the authorised dealer: www.profitnessmx.com
sam hope this is the one from house of cards
+sam hope. Go with a concept 2 rower. New one is about $950 shipped. Can probably find a used on for $650 or buy one from an indoor rowing competition for about the same. They tend to sell them once the competition is over so they don't have to freight them back. Call Concept 2 to find out where the next indoor rowing comp is. The water rower is nice looking but is awkward and stiff and doesn't have the same smooth acceleration like the C2. The Water Rower also has awkward geometry from feet to handle and it is really expensive. $1,500 - $2,500. www.rowindoors.com
Not everyone prefers Concept2. I prefer Water rowers ( and I row on the water also) and I know others who do as well. I prefer the geometry as it feels more like the boat. And do not underestimate the value of a comfortable seat when you are taking 1,000-2,000 strokes per workout.
So what is the brand of this rowing machine and where can i found?
It's not new it's been around for a long time
Oxbridge water rower, you can find them on Amazon or ebay around 1,000 dollars
+Dyaek Romero Get the Concept 2 instead. It is what all the clubs, colleges, National/Olympic teams use. Cheaper and better. Plus the scores you achieve can be compared to others all over the world through their world ranking data base. www.rowindoors.com
I love my C2 Model E
How long have you had it and how much maintenance do you have to do? I am REALLY stuck between one of these GX WaterRowers and the C2 E!
I ve had the C2 model C over 16 years and the only maintenance I had was lubrication of the chain due to recommendation. Actually it was not really necessary. I ve been rowing since 1976 and trained on a C2 model B already somewhere in 1986. Really the best performing rowers and mainly used by champions ;-)
Good luck.
Fun fact: does anyone else think Josh looks like Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones? Hehe. But besides that, this video is very helpful!
lol, true!
how to be as fast as possible?
I have the same machine at my gym, i've have reach almost 70 speed, i use it at least 4 times a week instead of the treadmill
Speed doesn't matter much in rowing. What matters is your split (time per 500 meters) and you're overall time/total distance travelled.
Ido Kushner well I do really fast for about 20 minutes, that's my cardio and warm up before hitting the weights, if I don't use the rowing machine I will pick a spinning bike and do the same
Please explain to me what “70 speed” means
Whats "70 speed"? That makes no sense.
@@suxxa if he means 70 strokes per minute, more than 1 a second, the power must be so small that your boat would be going the wrong way 😅
Currently sitting on my first row machine....wish me luck
The technique can be a little hard to master at first but it's the only way to get full benefit. One thing I note though is that they were both keeping their arm at the same level throughout.I find the higher I raise my arms on the pull stroke (mimicking digging the oars in) the more I can feel it in my arms and lower arms again on the recovery, Much more like actually rowing a boat. The sound is so relaxing too like rowing across a glass smooth lake with the only sound you hear is the sound of your oars stroking through the water.
I was thinking about to buy one of those machine cause it seems comfortable to use and easy to stow when not used. But watching this video, I'm suddenly not so confident in the stiffness of the frame.
Was it me or when the guy is increasing the effort, the device-frame is bending ?
It was you. But, you can always buy a Concept Air 2.
@@885wc
In the meantime I bought the Waterrower, and I also tested the Concept 2.
The Concept 2 has to me a slightly better working position and its control-console is more complete. The bearing system of the seat seems a bit more stable also (anyway quite good on both models).
The pulling system is giving some strange feeling after a 30 min set due to the chain-system which is giving some tiny vibrations.
The Waterrower is quiter and more compact. The pulling system is smoother.
In conclusion, both models are very good.
Alexandre Tschiember I’ve also tested the concept 2 but bought the waterrower. It gives more of a smoother pull for very intense intervals.
Did he say she has cute feet?
thats so cute im gona die
weird time for him to bring up his fetish
Lmao
Raine Radtke lmao
" If you have shorter cute feet like yours"....
What erg machines were those? They look fancy.... (0u0)

Looks strange without the Ergatta monitor on it.
Y'all are so cute together
i need fitness videos who teach people who arent already fit
I hope I start liking it I spent 1500 bucks

Uh o playa playa "cute feet lol"
so it's increase hight
The woman had poor form. She was lifting the handle over her knees, which puts strain on the shoulders and makes you tired quicker. This is a common first mistake and drastically reduces the impact you could have.
Fatima Minhas Yes she is just learning
Arturo Garcia Just trying to point it out for anybody who starts out. I did the same mistake in the beginning.
+Fatima Minhas oh cuz you actually know shit?
+Ryan Meneses Yeah... cause I actually do rowing. so I think I know some shit yeah.
+Fatima Minhas Thank you for making such a good observation I will be starting the rowing machine and good advice like yours really does help avoiding common mistakes than only tired you and make you loose valuable time and lead to wasted amount of gym time and effort in the gym
Was he describing a sex act? With the "cute feet" remark, I just can't be sure.
He forgot to mention to regulate your breathing !! Allso they is no need to push it like they did,
No need to push it like they did? What would you recommend?
I just now realised I have been doing it wrong all these days
In the gym the instructors told me not to lean back...
yes he does lean back too far
@@steveparker5348 where can I learn correct form?
in my gym i was told to sit in a place without replacing myself as in my video in instagram :@divithofficial
Anyone have tender rib cage after?
Ive been rowing for a week and haven't noticed that effect......one foot is complaining a bit 🤷♀
Underwood fan's 🙋♂️
I don't know why she's being taught on a water rower they're lots of fun but the standard is a concept 2
+Tiernan Purkess Becuase a Waterrower is amazing, the actual water resistance feels much more natural in my opinion.
+TheCompulsiveCanadianGamer I know they're great. A concept 2 is the embodiment of pain a water rower just makes you want the toilet but in a good way. But we train on concept 2s because all the indoor championships are on concept 2s and records will only be legit if they're on a concept 2.😕
You don’t know how bad I want a water rower!
yorucu mu acaba
girl looks stronger than him
he is bump shooting i.e. seats are moving first, however, the handle does not follow
No, he's not. His technique is fine.
Your like daddy hahaha
😅
Gofar hilman story made me here
Um, hello Jaime Lannister.
This is spooky. Focus on the mirror image of the woman. It’s moving slower than the actual person.
Creepy comment about feet lolz
Ya. Get a room
Everyday -_-
Cues me chuby : )
So now we know what you'd look like if you only used that machine and that is like that guy i.e. weirdly skinny/disproportionate. So use this in tandem with regular weight training, for your cardio component.
step 1: buy some concept2 ergs, not these
Why not?
Disagree. I row on water, on Concept2s, and bought a WaterRower. Love the WaterRower. Concept2s are soul-killing machines for masochists who will wish they were dead.
I finally upgrade from a concept 2 C to a water rower. Found a deal on Letgo for a year old First Degree
Fitness Viking rower. I bought the concept 2 about 14 years ago when water rowers
were insanely expensive. Biggest gripe is how loud the concept is. That's fine if you're at a gym, but if you're in a small condo like I am then it's a bit much. Today there are a million different types of water rowers from cheap to expensive, can imagine many of them are mediocre. Concept 2 is an excellent classic rower that we all grew up using but it's more mechanical than the belt driven water rowers. The differences aren't huge though so really comes down to preference.
MelloCello skinny ergo spotted!!! fatergo concept2 master race! if you dont die when erging, ur doing it wrong m8
If you want your neighbours to hate you that is.
Oh yea, that makes a huge difference!
Make it sound believable at least...
shorter cute feet lol hmmm
irony
Oh look, a bowl of water and a wooden frame for only 2 grand.
I think half that price.
I have one of these Indo-Row rowers in my home and I can burn 400 calories in about 45 minutes of working out on it
Would yousing a rower 45 minits aday 5 times aweek be good for loosing fat?
jack johnson Absolutely! You must also watch your diet.
He got charged with harassment for his cute feet comment. Poor guy.
wait really
I make 100 dollars for doing 500 rows :|
They're finishing with the hands way too high. If they do it for long period or years like that, they will develop lower back problems. They need to finish with the hands closer to the navel.
Where can I learn correct form?
Are we all sure this guy is a professional?
I mean, low impact? SERIOUSLY?
It is low impact, compared to things like sprinting, jogging, hitting a heavy bag, playing sports, crossfit, etc
Rowing is very easy on the joints and bones.
+PENDANTturnips I agree
+Lauren he is world champion of rowing so yeah he is a professional. low impact just mean you don't have to make a high impact on the ground like when you're running or jumping. bike is low impact too.
I understand now guys, thanks again. Got mixed up between low impact on the body and the pain of rowing. Thanks for the correction!
Lauren no problem :)
Ffs America.
That first stroke in the video is so bad. I... Just....
Where can I learn proper form?
