The Sportster was and remains one of Harley's best. The performance and visceral riding experiences is something that Harley must not lose. I hope they don't over-refine the next generation of these bikes. Great looks, impeccable power curve, with beautiful sight and sound make this classic indispensable to the Harley Davidson lineup. One of my all-time favorite motorcycles.
The Iron 883 styling is breathtaking. The Street Rod is nice too, looks like my old Yamaha Radian. But the Iron is another league. And when uncorked the Evo engine sounds fantastic, and that low end torque is irresistible. Great video!
I am a Brit, street rod all day long for me. Seriously thinking of buying a used one from my local dealer in Leeds. Thanks for the video, very informative.

My first Harley, 2016, 883, coming from a sportbike. Put 3 times the miles on my 883 in a year, than my sportbike. Really enjoyed the bike, rode as much as I could and did alot of day trips out of town. I'm on a 2016 Fatboy S, two up riding and longer stays out of town. Still love the 883 and defiantly don't regret buying it.
Just bought my wife a new Street 750 for her first bike. She completed the Rider Academy a few weeks ago and decided she wanted one of her own. We pick it up today.
Adria Millas Luque she loves hers. She’s never had any problems with the brakes even though she did not get the antilock option. Don’t think she really rides hard enough to test the brakes that much
Harley Foodies Thank you, man. I had seen reviews from the RUclips channel RevZilla among others claiming that the front brake of the Street 750 was really really bad. So I thought the Rod 750 might share the same. Enjoy life and the ride!
IMO the Iron is one of the best looking stock motorcycles built today. Although I love my Dyna, I still want an Iron! I’m really liking these comparison videos, nice work!👍🏻
I just wish Harley would make a bigger version of the Street Rod. Same general performance qualities, just a larger frame and bigger engine and maybe a slightly meaner, more aggressive look. They could call it, idk, a V-Rod would be a good name. Yeah, Harley should make those!
I’ll personally go with the 883! Reminds me of when I use to have my 48! Now up with my 2018 Street bob. As always great review/video! Always look forward to getting notifications from laidlaws!
I am a new rider and I did not grow up around bikes. Through personal non bias experience I knew I wanted a Harley (Tradition and the social experience is what swayed this decision). I went through the riding academy (first time on a motorcycle and not knowing how to operate a manual transmission.) I passed and bought a 2018 Street Rod. I will one day own a Traditional Harley (One I can put wrenches too) but that expensive dream build is on down the road. For now I look to the evolution of a Historical lifestyle that I can be apart of. I Fucking Love My Bike!!! Funny thing is it won't be my only bike!
I love that you waved to the little kid! Kids love that stuff. I've never been on a Street Rod, but I love my Iron. This is a good comparison for new riders. The beauty of the Iron is it is more than just a bike for new riders. If you get on one, you'll never want to get off of it. It'll be a bike you want to keep for the rest of your life!
2 years later and I’m still glad I got my 2017 Street rod 750. I enjoy it. It’s even been wrecked due to a dog running in the road and she started right back up after fixing the gear shifter ready to ride
The 883 has roughly 6 lbs ft more torque at only 250 RPMs less than the 750. That's going to be a very negligible difference. The extra weight of the 883 iron will also come into play. Overall, the streetrod 750 isn't going to feel like it's lacking in torque in any way, when being compared to the 883.
even if what depend on true precise numbers of torque and at which rpm they are lower weight and biger power street rod leave iron 883 in the dust from light 😉👌🏻ok according to this spec which i found for 2018 iron 883 and street rod 2018 you would not feel doffrenc 3-5 k rpm and if than more on street rod advanatage 😉 cos according to spec which i foudn street rod have 65 nm at 4000 rpm vs iron 883 68 nm at 4750 rpm so 5% around more not 25% and on higher rpm suprisingly comapre to street rod what mean on 4000 rpm iron can have the same or even less torq than street rod if you add to calculation like 50 pound more weight for iron 883 it turn out that street rod be feel more „torquey „ ot 3-4 k rpm 😉 well also gearing makes diffrenc if somebody comapre gear to gear assuming 1 ,2 gear be not enough longer ins treet rod you would feel better lowend tprq in street rod 👌🏻 and at max sprint beside lowend etc iron 883 have 0 chance with 51-52 hp at 260 kg 0-100 km/h hit in like 7 sec probably vs street rod should clock like 4,5-5 sec 👌🏻
Hey Matt! Bought a Street 750 a couple years ago and just traded it in for a new Iron 883 a couple weeks ago. I'll take the Iron all day over the Street, although I did have some fun riding it around. I like that I can add forward controls to the Iron, as well as all of the other customization options available. I love the sound of the engine on the Iron compared to the Street, and it handles really well around town. Thanks for doing all of the reviews you do!
I've ridden both... The Street Rod is actually a lot of fun. The power and handling are quite impressive for what it is. However, even at 5'8", my hips were cramping minutes into the ride. That reason alone would leave me to choose the Iron. If Harley can fix the ergonomics on the Street Rod, I would gladly consider it.
Hi Matt! Always glad to see your reviews. You know, having been a salesman for 8 years I truly appreciate your imaginative ways of bringing HD bikes to public attention. You are so deeply involved with your product that you find ways to communicate that love of HD bikes to everybody around. I live in India so will never get to visit you in person, but your videos and your well-spoken opinions on HD bikes will sell motorcycles anywhere in the world. If you ever bring out a Laidlaws' patch or badge I will wear it.
BTW Matt, I have been riding a first-model-year Street 750 since I bought her out of the showroom on 22 Nov 2014. 34K-odd km on her so far. I live in the tropics: Hyderabad, India, so I ride every day in sun and rain. And rain literally for I often turn up at office in soaking shoes and trousers. If you ever need a review or opinion from a daily commuter, I would be glad to contribute.
the street rod reminds me of the old xr1200 but with a water cooled engine. the design is really nice. in fact if it was mine i would change the handlebars to the old xr1200 style.
It's amazing to think that HD's larger moves for change falter, yet become the most sought after bikes like the XLCR, FXR, and now probably the Street, not to mention the Street Rod/Night Rods. They seriously need to bring back the old XLCR.
Super helpful video! Thanks for sharing such an in depth and thorough comparison. I’m looking to buy my first Harley-Davidson bike here at the Lancaster dealership and the Iron 883 has seemed to be the most beginner friendly so far. Again, thanks!!
I went into the Harley dealership specifically to buy a street rod 750, and left with a brand new iron 883🤷🏻♂️. I couldn’t help it? I just wasn’t comfortable at all on the street rod and the iron 883 felt perfect and the looks 👀😎. I mean, come on! Best looking bike in that price range for sure! Love my 883!
Stranded Alien The Street Rod in Australia is probably made entirely in India, while the 883 is made in the US. That’s why it’s so much cheaper I’m guessing.
Street rod makes a good starter bike. Very tolerant of lugging. My daughter bought one, she does not rev a lot . The street rod is far more tolerant of that than my sportster or low rider. Will also run 80 mph, speed limit here with ease.
Kudos for stopping the "music" (repetitive bars) when you are speaking. Nearly all Moto and aviation sites on You Tube insist upon "music" or other sounds (background noise) intruding on the narrator's words thereby driving me away. I want to focus on what you and other presenters are saying. Now, if only You Tubers would keep an even decibel range for those of us who do not want our ear drums damaged by LOUD intros and exits from a segment....
My first bike was a Street 750, sold it and bought the Iron 883. I like them both. The Iron has a lot of tinkering options. That was a factor in my choice. One day I will upgrade to a Softail Street Bob or a Trike.
I own a Buell Firebolt and a Street Rod. I grew up with many motorcycles, mainly Harley. My first Harley was the 500 then I ungraded too the street rod and love riding it. If I ever get another one I will make it a course bike for Laguna Seca or thunder hill.
I think the other thing to consider for someone starting off is you can ride it as an 883 and when you feel like you need more power there's 1200 and 1250 big bore kits available for not much more money that the dealership will do for you.. I had mine done a few years ago and it keeps up with the bigger twins on a long run no bother
Almost exactly the decision I'm looking at right now. As a tall guy I really appreciate the fit information. Looks like the 883 might be better as well as having more parts and sounding right. I'm currently planning to swing a leg over both bikes and (hopefully) sign the paperwork in a few days. It has been really irritating that basically all the "beginner" bikes being pushed are either sports bikes or too under powered to be useful. I'm really digging the Harley lineup and I wish it was easier for new riders to find this information. Thanks!
@@MattLaidlaw indeed. I couldn't even test ride the 750. I was too much of a pretzel. So I put the money down on a new 883. The fit, surprisingly, isn't bad at all and I'm loving the styling. Worth the extra cost.
Most people that hate the Street Rod are either purists or never rode it. The Street Rod is on par with other naked bikes like the Yamaha FZ or the Kawasaki Z. This thing is a WHEELIE monster!!! The only reason I did not buy one is they came out with the 2018 Fat Bob 114, so I went that route. If anyone is considering this bike, I would suggest not depending much on advice from most Harley purists or most Harley sales people. Just ride it!! The 883 is a nice bike. However the comparison of these 2 bikes are strictly from a cost stand point. THe performance figures do not do the difference in riding experience justice! Lastly, the Revolution engine should have been put in ALL HDs. I love the Milwaukee 8, but it still could be better. The purists are going to run HD into oblivion if they do not keep up with the competition. Liquid cooled overhead cam engines are whats up!!!
There are two kinds of H-D purists - the ones who have maybe 10-20 years left on this earth, and the ones who say they wouldn't ride anything but a harley, but don't seem to have a motorcycle of any kind. I bought a street 500 recently, and that silly little bike has me sold on Harley Davidson. No flat spots in the EFI, like my brother's teutonic wonderpig, the blasted speedometer is correct within 1 mph, which is something literally no Japanese motorcycle manufacturer seems to be able to accomplish, and it's all put together well with clean welds and good paint. It's a great bike to run down the highway with, or ride across town. If I decide I want to replace it, I'm probably going to be at the dealer looking at a 750 Street Rod.
I beg to differ. The Yamaha and the Kawasaki surpasses the Street Rod in weight, horsepower and handling. What the 750 gives you is a bike that does just enough to be enjoyable while still having the chance to keep your license in your pocket longer then the other two of em with the benefit of it being made in the U.S.A. And that being said I'm working on trying to fit a turbocharger on one that sits tight to the body so you don't have to change your riding position and looks like it belongs there...So much for the whole license thing.. ;(
The Sportster looks like a muscled track bike , the design always stands out and mods that I've seen done to the bikes can really change the looks around . Another good video Matt 👍be safe on them roads
Made in the US? You misspoke. You meant assembled. Upwards of 30% of parts and components are made overseas and Mexico. Then shipped here for final assembly. Very, very different.
It's been that way for 40 yrs or more with Harley.....My 1975 XLH 1000 had Showa forks and the rear wheel bearings made me laugh when I replaced them. There were 3 bearings and they were stamped Russia,China and Taiwan and that was just he rear wheel. LMFAO
Brilliant, exactly what we want to know as potential buyers, i prefer the 883 over the Street Rod by miles, its a proper Harley, being smaller suits the European market
I’ve owned both of these and have to say the 883 has the look and sound of the classic Harley, but after about 50 miles my butt was looking forward to a break. The Street Rod 750 doesn’t sound like a Harley, but the power, and the suspension is so much better than the 883. It doesn’t tire me out nearly as much...the only gripe is I wish they’d refigured the foot pegs...kind of awkward.
You do a good job on these Matt. funny I rode Japanese bikes my whole life. I retired and read about the M8 and said it is time for my Harley. so I bought the Heritage 114 and could not be more happy. as I got educated with Harley bikes I decided. 3 months later to buy a new 883 sportster also. having both worlds the M8 and the EVO is so cool. funny how I sort of like to ride the sportster more. plus I did the 883 to 1200 conversion with the harely SE and even more happy. you were so correct on the way you described a Harley. and people commenting on being made in America - what really is totally any more. keep up the good work and forget the nathsayers. :)
After owning Harleys and then Beemers I went the other direction, I'm keeping the beemers, Harleys have the Style, sound, cool factor to ride around town but beside that BMWs have better, everything handling brakes, etc they are just better overall bikes. Still want to buy a nice chopper.
You’re going to fit about the same. They are both on the small side. I’d take other criteria to make a decision. What kind of riding are you doing. Are you customizing? Etc etc.
Matt, great video! Went today to check out both these bikes because I want/need to scale down from my Fatboy. I found the Street Rod's pegs to be too small and in a very uncomfortable position. Very! If the Roadster had a 6th speed, I would consider it further. The regular Street 750 is so much more confortable. If I could just get the engine performance and improved suspension from the Street Rod into the Street 750. Did H-D improve the front brakes on the Street 750? I've heard they're "mushy".
If someone has to scale down - as in my situation described above - what are your recommendations? Garage space being an issue. I occasionally commute to a train station 24 miles away with a 6 mile stretch of highway.
My only complaint about the street rod is I wish the mid pegs were just a little more forward, by a few inches. Also slightly higher risers would be nice too. The handle bar distance is great if you got long arms, but you probably have long legs too and the foot pegs are to close. Most of the power in the revolution x motor comes in the mid range, just like the vrod revolution motor.
I've ridden the street 750 and the iron 883 but never the street rod I was so uncomfortable on tye street because I'm too tall at 5'11 but the engine is much better than the irons in my opinions faster too. When I sit on the street rod it felt pretty good and I hear it's got more power than the street I have to get a demo in for one hook me up Matt !
Not personal experience but I can say it isn’t the best. You won’t be comfortable as a passenger back there for very long. High speeds on bumpy roads will be uncomfortable.
bring the handle bars back a little and adjustable, get rid of those mirrors for regular bar mount mirrors, angle the front of the gas tank up some to match the profile of the bike, and do something about that leg burning pipe , and that would be one nice HD :)
I have a new street rod it’s a 6speed and you’re right tho about top speed at 115mph I’m done and it’s very unstable at speeds over 90 but other then that if you’re on a back road mountains curvy roads speeds around 40-80 it’s incredible I love the bike I don’t need to go 140mph I love back roads this bike handles and leans like crazy it’s great especially with a good exhaust and tune
Yet another fantastic video there, Matt! None of these are my bucket of beer, but then again I´m a old fart. If I had to choose the Iron would do it for me. It sure has character. Keep em´coming sir!
Hi Matt, thanks for this amazing comparison review! I am a proud owner of a HD Streetbob '06 and looking for something sportier/lighter weight and came across this video. I dig the look of the iron 883, but I am 6"2 and think I am too tall for the bike. What would your recommendations be for a tall person like me? What kind of Sportster or Dyna, Street model should I be looking for? Thanks in advance!
Sorry this is probably too late. I'm also 6ft2 and sat on a sportster yesterday. It didn't feel uncomfortable to me, I looked a little bit awkward on the bike, it looked like my knees were quite high up. Hopefully you've had chance to try one
You’re saying the Street outperforms the 883 ... What about the 1200, though: does that flip the tables on performance across the board (in round terms)?
in iron 883 egzample 5% more torq dont be feel comapre to street rod cos iron 883 is 7-8% heavier 👌🏻 but iron 1200 is diffrent story = you would defenitely feel better lowend in 1200 wersion cos it have 98 nm at 3200rpm with still similar weight to iron 883 vs streetrod have only 65 nm at 4000 rpm so yea despite streetrod is 20kg lighter around it would feel way weaker at low rpm comapre to iron 1200 however if you use max power in both engine it be defenitelly closer to street rod on straight than iron 883 but it still on 95% lost but be small margin 👌🏻 cos its engine makes 67 hp vs iron 883 52 hp vs street rod 69-70 hp so it be close but street rod still win be lil 👍🏻 in terms of cornering and breaking iron 1200 is close to iron 883 so in this category street rod with lower weight wider rear tire 2 disk at fromt better suspension usd front fork lil shorter wheelbase more lean angle still outperform iron 1200 be a biger margin once you put on both fast driver and when they start drive like on track so fast 😉 cos on lazy relax driving probably ergo iron 883 and 1200 can find lil better but it really depend at end on somebodys preferention if we talking about ergonomics but most probably would feel more comfortable on iron 883/1200 😉 personally take street rod 👌🏻 also iron 1200 work on much lower rpm feg iron 1200 at 100 km/h at 4000 rpm with throtle max open you would need street rod to be at like 6000-7000 rpm for not stay behind 👍🏻 and again most people would like more sound of iron 1200 than street rod 😉
Things I don't need on a Harley: watercooling, high compression ratio, cams with more lift... I'm a dinosaur I guess. By the wat Matt listening to your voice is soo relaxing.
Street rod is like a stage 1.5 street 750. Compare it to an 883 with intake, exhaust, cams and a tune. I don't think the street rod would still be in the fight.
@@johnclark6751 where the Street Rod would start to shine over the Sporty is when the road gets twisty. For cruising around enjoying the ride, the Sporty will dominate the Street Rod, or any other sport oriented bike. Ergonomics really dictate that.
Thank you. drove a Sportster 1000 (76) for 30 years and want something like that, but has to be somewhat nimble but ok to carry two around town, occasional 20 mile ride. not a long ride guy. Recommendations? Just starting to look again.
I placed an informed reply above that you might want to look at for some incite. I built my XLH1975 (Kicker Only) Iron-Head to the maximum that had an 8000 R.P.M. red-line that started on the first kick to the surprise of everyone and then wanted something with a button so I purchased a 2000 XL1200 EVO and pushed it as far as you could without boring out the cases that was also no joke and have twerked out 8 or 10 overseas offerings .Being you stated you have over 30yrs on an Iron-Head and (possibly a flat butt) ;( I would definitely tell you look really hard at the Street Rod 750 that will pull you and a passenger just frigging fine on a long or short pull. Yes my butt is also flat from riding for 49 yrs.... LMFAO :)
I forgot to mention something important... If you can spare a few grand more do not overlook the Indian Scout if you want a bike that looks like it's old but has everything you will ever need in a bike that will pull you and 3 of your buddies without breaking a sweat take a peek at em Just another better option by far, unless you just have to have an H.D. then good luck and be safe man..... ;(
Having previously worked for HD in the UK I've been lucky enought to own both these bikes. For me the only thing the Iron scores over the Street is old school style and sound. Everything else is just better on the Street. Only gripe on the Street was foot peg position puts one foot too close to the pipe.
Looking to get my first bike soon. My dad had an 883 and it’s always stuck out to me. What would you recommend between the street rod and the 883 for a 6 foot tall 350 pound dude? Or would you recommend another size engine?
Me and my dad have been looking to get these bikes me the street rod and my dad the iron we have a dealer that is selling both for 5500 each brand new we might be getting them for mountain road riding
Due to my stature and I broke a right hip in 94 I actually HATE rice bike ride position. But in 08 I bought a 06 Buell Blast with 1 1/2 yr warranty ex riders edge bike and love it. BUT I am looking for either 883/1200 Superlow. Then want good two up seat and mid controls. In 08 I almost exclusively rode my Blast except when it was in for warranty because previous rear tire replacement was achieved by inexperienced tech removing pulley and not replacing or re loctite of the sprocket bolts. It wound up losing a bearing I found upon tire replacement then two of the 5 sprocket bolts borken off. They had to order wheel and sprocket. Other than that Blast was incredibly reliable. One other issues was the original front mount bracket and the front mount(mount had recall/tsb upgrade) ND one of front bracket bolts broke in typical sportster mount lossening. Even Buells needed red loctite/shake proof washers. Only other warranty issue was gasket leak from top of engine but that was at end of next year's riding at end of warranty.
Congratulations for such good Comparison Review. Unfortunately we don`t have the street rod 750 on Brazilian Stores. They only like old and rich guys. First Riders that don`t want to expend too much on the first buying, Smaller People, women, are nor on their vision. So sad.
This is a great video. I have a Street Rod 750 and was thinking of getting an 883. The reason for this is because I encountered a problem on my 750 and I would like to know if you have encountered the same. Ive had my 750 for less than 4 months and have about 2000 + km. on it. On one of the rides, the neural light came on even on gear. I was able to cancel this out through diagnostics and sent to the HD dealer twice and was supposedly repaired. After a 800+ km ride, the neutral light came on again and after about 200 km. the idle went up to 2000 rpm. Nearing town it went up to 3000+ rpm. Its been in the shop for three weeks now and dealer mentioned its almost done. With this video, I think I'm keeping my Street Rod 750 even with this issue. Thank you. I shared this video with three of my friends who all have Street Rods.
This has been a great video of information I’m a retired person looking for a ride live looked at the iron 883 and also the shorter 1200 which would be the best for my needs ,many thank .Graham.👍
Would love to see the street 750 turn into a middleweight adventure style bike. Could improve sales. Adventure bikes are popular and it could be the gateway to the new pan American
Street Rod with a Honda VTR1000 Engine would be fun. Seriously though the street rod seems great. What I've often wondered both Honda and Suzuki had really good water cooled V twins in the VTR and SV 1000 models. Those would have been epic engines for a sports cruiser. Suzuki even had the SV650 motor for a smaller sports cruiser. No reason for a cruiser to weigh a ton, have poor brakes, low power and poor handling. Harley had a great engine with the vrod too. Now nothing wrong with old school Harleys sure I would love one, but there must be lots of old guys like me that wouldn't mind a more aggressive cruiser.
I wish the street series bikes weren't so fugly. The price is fair, the features are strong, but that rear fender is atrocious. To myself at least. Sticking with the Iron, but I respect the performance of the Street Rod.
I still prefer Street Rod but I can understand why people like the classical Harleys.

Pnly just seen tbis video the iron looks nicer but for commuting the street rod seems a better option
grt, unbiased review. I have a street rod and love it for all the reasons expressed. I agree with the stature as well. A great modern step for HD.

Thank you ! Yea, the Iron Looks great Just a cool, classic bobber
The name itself is fantastic! Iron. What a name for a bike.

Great Egret I don't recommend a street rod if you are over 5'8". The ergos will kill you, I'm 5'6" and I mounted highway bars for long rides.
@Jeff somersby wow that's hilarious
@Jeff somersby Sounds like Futurama...
The Street Rod has far better lean angles than the 883.
I love the under square engines because they go the best with big bores to square them up
2 years later and I’m still glad I got my 2017 Street rod 750. I enjoy it. It’s even been wrecked due to a dog running in the road and she started right back up after fixing the gear shifter ready to ride
great comparison. got an iron for my son and it is perfect.
Robert, how is that 883 running after 4 months. I have been thinking about giving one to my son. Been looking at the honda aero, 883 and vulcan.
I'll take one of each, and yes I'm a millennial down for what HD is doing. Great content as always.
The 883 has roughly 6 lbs ft more torque at only 250 RPMs less than the 750. That's going to be a very negligible difference. The extra weight of the 883 iron will also come into play. Overall, the streetrod 750 isn't going to feel like it's lacking in torque in any way, when being compared to the 883.
it has 10 more. thats a 25% increase. it does make a difference
even if what depend on true precise numbers of torque and at which rpm they are lower weight and biger power street rod leave iron 883 in the dust from light 😉👌🏻ok according to this spec which i found for 2018 iron 883 and street rod 2018 you would not feel doffrenc 3-5 k rpm and if than more on street rod advanatage 😉 cos according to spec which i foudn street rod have 65 nm at 4000 rpm vs iron 883 68 nm at 4750 rpm so 5% around more not 25% and on higher rpm suprisingly comapre to street rod what mean on 4000 rpm iron can have the same or even less torq than street rod if you add to calculation like 50 pound more weight for iron 883 it turn out that street rod be feel more „torquey „ ot 3-4 k rpm 😉 well also gearing makes diffrenc if somebody comapre gear to gear assuming 1 ,2 gear be not enough longer ins treet rod you would feel better lowend tprq in street rod 👌🏻 and at max sprint beside lowend etc iron 883 have 0 chance with 51-52 hp at 260 kg 0-100 km/h hit in like 7 sec probably vs street rod should clock like 4,5-5 sec 👌🏻
You serious..? The street rod is way too top heavy..the Irons weight is lower down..
June 15th,2018; I picked up my first Harley, A Road King Special and i'm so happy to start touring.Thank you Matt for all the info and keep it up.
Damn, you went big... congrats!
Congrats man. Enjoy. That's a great bike,
I'll take both thanks.
Thanks for the comment. It's good to hear from people that have actually owned both
The Street 750 and the Street Rod are completely different bikes...
Yea you gotta be pretty short for it to fit you right
It’s all riding style yo! I’m 6’1 and I fit fine on it
Darryl Goff Jr same here
Freespiritphil Its not a bike for you
Get a bike your size
6 years on this was still super helpful
Well I like both! They've really improved the Street Rod over the original Street 750.
If you ever need a review or opinion from a daily commuter, I would be glad to contribute.
the street rod reminds me of the old xr1200 but with a water cooled engine. the design is really nice. in fact if it was mine i would change the handlebars to the old xr1200 style.
ripmax333 or the more modern roadster 1200
Matt you are the man! Being a new rider I watch your videos and learn so much, iron is what I really wanna get so cool video!
I own a 2018 street 750 and happy with it.
It's amazing to think that HD's larger moves for change falter, yet become the most sought after bikes like the XLCR, FXR, and now probably the Street, not to mention the Street Rod/Night Rods. They seriously need to bring back the old XLCR.
Thanks Matt! Been waiting for a video of these bikes!!
Super helpful video! Thanks for sharing such an in depth and thorough comparison. I’m looking to buy my first Harley-Davidson bike here at the Lancaster dealership and the Iron 883 has seemed to be the most beginner friendly so far. Again, thanks!!
Street Rod rocks 🤘🏻 love my bike
883 Iron every day of the weeks, can't beat the retro cruiser hint in the build
Always a real buzz to see your vid's Matt ^^
Thank you !
In Australia the Street Rod is exactly half the price of the 883 at the moment, comparison over.
I try to keep the volume consistent throughout.
Thanks for the video great job on the comparison between the two bikes take care
My first bike was a Street 750, sold it and bought the Iron 883. I like them both. The Iron has a lot of tinkering options. That was a factor in my choice. One day I will upgrade to a Softail Street Bob or a Trike.
Harley Davidson was on the ropes but has got their 2nd wind a coming back strong and swinging the new lineup proves that...
Picking up my Iron 883 this evening!
Biker Chick - How are you enjoying it? 🙂
I chose a 2017 iron 883 red denim a few weeks ago.. And have no interest in a street rod. I find the iron is plenty quick enough to enjoy and have fun
I love my iron ❤. Nice video
883 better for highway? The street rod has a six speed box and the 883 has a 5 speed. Also it's water cooled
Thanks!
Ride them both. This will tell you a lot
@@MattLaidlaw indeed. I couldn't even test ride the 750. I was too much of a pretzel. So I put the money down on a new 883. The fit, surprisingly, isn't bad at all and I'm loving the styling. Worth the extra cost.
Congratulations, you talked me out of ever buying either of them.
Thank you and you’re welcome.
I just got a street rod 750 yesterday!!!
Nice how do you like it?
I love my street rod, it was my first bike and I'm so happy that I went this route.
Thanks man
@@MattLaidlaw you're welcome
I know you only do harley's but could you compare the iron 883 and the Indian scout?
Its no comparison. The Indian blows Harley away.
@@alphacapo the scout is really ugly. It handles like a car and it is way more expensive. Completly different category.
No comparison.Buy the Scout it's a great bike for what it is the 883 will be a big disappointment after riding the Scout...
I think the SR is the best change for HD in a while. It still has mass.
..... altho, the street + the 500.... maybe not.
Made in the US? You misspoke. You meant assembled. Upwards of 30% of parts and components are made overseas and Mexico. Then shipped here for final assembly. Very, very different.
Cigar Obsession / better than having full import from elsewhere.
honda makes their cruisers in the us. hondas support the local job markets and maintain a lower pricepoint. Kind of put harley to shame.
As it has been for the last 50yrs.Check your research as in the worst time in Harley history the shove em out the door A.M.F. bikes...
It's been that way for 40 yrs or more with Harley.....My 1975 XLH 1000 had Showa forks and the rear wheel bearings made me laugh when I replaced them. There were 3 bearings and they were stamped Russia,China and Taiwan and that was just he rear wheel. LMFAO
the street rod we get in the UK is assembled in India apparantly.Thats why it's 2000 pounds cheaper than the 883
I'd really like to pick up a Street Rod for a second bike. I think it would be a fun bike to rip around the local back roads on.
Brilliant, exactly what we want to know as potential buyers, i prefer the 883 over the Street Rod by miles, its a proper Harley, being smaller suits the European market
The Street Rod is a good looking bike and I really want to like it.
But the ergos and that big ass exhaust pipe, I’ll settle for the Iron.
I wish Iron Horse still in business to buy a New Texas Chopper!!
Matt I’m 6feet tall From the 2 which one would you recommend thanks
You’re going to fit about the same. They are both on the small side. I’d take other criteria to make a decision. What kind of riding are you doing. Are you customizing? Etc etc.
Neither....
I’m 6’ tall and the Street Rod was absurdly small while I thought the Sportster would’ve been acceptable.
They did improve the front brakes. In 2016 I believe. The streetrod has great brakes. Dual disc
Swing by. We will hook you up with a test ride
Good job on the video. Very well done.
Great review. Any experience with two riders on the Iron?
WHAT are those white gloves?!
They look awesome!
Yet another fantastic video there, Matt! None of these are my bucket of beer, but then again I´m a old fart. If I had to choose the Iron would do it for me. It sure has character.
Keep em´coming sir!
What flashing on the speedo of the 750? Its looks like the turn signal
No, the street will still beat it.
in iron 883 egzample 5% more torq dont be feel comapre to street rod cos iron 883 is 7-8% heavier 👌🏻 but iron 1200 is diffrent story = you would defenitely feel better lowend in 1200 wersion cos it have 98 nm at 3200rpm with still similar weight to iron 883 vs streetrod have only 65 nm at 4000 rpm so yea despite streetrod is 20kg lighter around it would feel way weaker at low rpm comapre to iron 1200 however if you use max power in both engine it be defenitelly closer to street rod on straight than iron 883 but it still on 95% lost but be small margin 👌🏻 cos its engine makes 67 hp vs iron 883 52 hp vs street rod 69-70 hp so it be close but street rod still win be lil 👍🏻 in terms of cornering and breaking iron 1200 is close to iron 883 so in this category street rod with lower weight wider rear tire 2 disk at fromt better suspension usd front fork lil shorter wheelbase more lean angle still outperform iron 1200 be a biger margin once you put on both fast driver and when they start drive like on track so fast 😉 cos on lazy relax driving probably ergo iron 883 and 1200 can find lil better but it really depend at end on somebodys preferention if we talking about ergonomics but most probably would feel more comfortable on iron 883/1200 😉 personally take street rod 👌🏻 also iron 1200 work on much lower rpm feg iron 1200 at 100 km/h at 4000 rpm with throtle max open you would need street rod to be at like 6000-7000 rpm for not stay behind 👍🏻 and again most people would like more sound of iron 1200 than street rod 😉
Hi Matt, great video as usual! With the 20th of August coming up, what are you hoping for in the 2019 line-up?
Things I don't need on a Harley: watercooling, high compression ratio, cams with more lift... I'm a dinosaur I guess. By the wat Matt listening to your voice is soo relaxing.
Thanks man. Most people say I’m boring
Or high rpm torque...
How comfortable was the 883? Since you are 6'6 I thought I'd ask since I'm 6'5. Figured you would know lol! I really like the 883 and the looks.
Thanks for the info on the two bikes, it was a toss up for me but I got it narrowed down
@Joel Surrett it was a close one for me but I had to go with the street rod
Love my Street Rod! Especially love running off and leaving sporsters. Lol!
J S Rocker then you wake up lol
@@nolanmacdougall1154 Stock Sporsters. Haven't had the chance to try a modified one.
My street rod can drop a gear and disappear on any sporty
Thank you. drove a Sportster 1000 (76) for 30 years and want something like that, but has to be somewhat nimble but ok to carry two around town, occasional 20 mile ride. not a long ride guy.
If you can spare a few grand more do not overlook the Indian Scout if you want a bike that looks like it's old but has everything you will ever need in a bike that will pull you and 3 of your buddies without breaking a sweat take a peek at em Just another better option by far, unless you just have to have an H.D. then good luck and be safe man..... ;(
@@patrickteto Thanks. leaning on the Iron 1200
That was a great vid. Thanks so much for all the info you gave on those two bikes compared to each other, I learned a lot
Having previously worked for HD in the UK I've been lucky enought to own both these bikes.
For me the only thing the Iron scores over the Street is old school style and sound.
Everything else is just better on the Street.
Only gripe on the Street was foot peg position puts one foot too close to the pipe.
What's the petrol price in your city?
Zero! We use something called Gazoline or Gasoline.
Hey Matt, have you done a review of the Superlow sportster?
The rear suspension of the Street Rod can be adjusted.
Looking to get my first bike soon. My dad had an 883 and it’s always stuck out to me. What would you recommend between the street rod and the 883 for a 6 foot tall 350 pound dude? Or would you recommend another size engine?
I would recommend another size waist!
On the Street rod 750, does it have enough torque at low rpm or speed to get out of a car path?? I'm looking for my first bike.
I wonder why they never stuffed the twin cam engine in the sportster
Or even the larger cube Evos
It doesn’t fit.
6 speeds, liquid cooler, USD with 02 disc...most important is 883 vibration too much
Duong Nguyen
Yes. But 750 - India, 833 - US.. Quality?
Hey Matt,
You make great videos.
I will say his tho, I miss the dirty old biker! Those were hilarious.
I'm buying a softail standard in a few weeks for my son.
I had a firebrand exhaust installed on my Street Rod.
I wish the street series bikes weren't so fugly.
The price is fair, the features are strong, but that rear fender is atrocious. To myself at least.
Sticking with the Iron, but I respect the performance of the Street Rod.
