Hyraxes are more than simply cute - they can be fierce when they need to be, and are generally awesome. Interestingly, they do eat flowers, so the flowery parts of the scent will be in keeping with the species...
Since you appreciate animalics maybe you might like to try Aksum from Pryn Parfums, it has notes like goat hair and sweat. Really like your descriptions.
I don't think is one is animalic to the extreme. No more so than a fragrance like Amouage Gold Man. So it is not all about poo and pee, and to my nose it is not really terribly barnyardy either, and I have some perfumes with Oud from Assam that will make you turn your nose away from it at first sniff. But we aren't all the same when it comes to perception, and I may be a minority of one. That said, I find Hyrax somewhat difficult to pin down, and that is part of the appeal of it to me. It isn't clear to me when and in what social setting I would wear this fragrance. It will appeal to a very limited segment of perfume connoisseurs, much less the public at large. The best way I can sum up my thoughts is that Hyrax is a very deep and interesting fragrance that is quite complex. It was interesting enough for me to purchase a full bottle. It doesn't matter whether or not I wear it in public. I was sufficiently intrigued and fascinated by this fragrance that I felt it was full bottle worthy and was deserving of a place in my scent library alongside of the seven other Zoologist fragrances I own. Hyrax is another win for Victor Wong.
Thank you for the review! You are right, castoreum is in the formula, and in fact the main ingredient in Hyrax!
Victor Wong thank you for he bold, and beautifully crafted fragrance!
"the hyrax is a perfumer of sorts" GOLD! lol
I like it! Doesn't smell at all like feces/urine/vomit as some people on Fragrantica seem to think. Smell quite nice to me.
This scent has seriously turned the both of you on has it? :D
Would love to see your take on Moth.
Thank you for the honest review, guys!

procaviacapensis thanks for the info! I must confess that the source of my knowledge of the hyrax is a few lines from Wikipedia!
The opening is Tom Ford Oud Wood Intense with the drydown of Tom Ford London.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes, it's a special thing to be enjoyed when a fragrance really makes you think. Like any great work of art.
You can add Tom Ford Tobacco Oud to the opening.
No barnyard for me just Old World perfumery at it's finest, one of the top 3 in the house.
saint of the day but only on my wrist:)
