Yay! I've been hoping you would review this one, as I am SO intrigued by the description of it. The "whiskey" note caught my eye, as I have quite a weakness for whiskey in real life. Admittedly, I'm a bit intimidated by the intense animalic descriptions I've heard it has. Perhaps I'll feel brave enough to sample it at least for the artistic aspect of the composition. Also just want to say your backdrop is wonderful on this video. "They make you feel things when you smell them" is really a spot-on statement about Zoologist! I'm so happy to have discovered this house; their creations are like art and seem to be created from the soul, and not influenced by fleeting trends.

I was bullshitti g with a perfume store owner when I was in Italy cus I'm into scents and wanted to explore and didn't want to go out to the tourist bars with no locals. I was exploring scenes and he asks me what I'm looking for or what I like, and i said, well I don't want something sweet and inviting.. all the department store scents smell like that to me.. he gets a big smile on his face, starts chuckling and says he's got just the thing for me as his smile and laughter grows even more. He shows me hyrax. Now I'm a country boy from New York. grew up working in a horse barn at 10 until 12 years old, then worked at a horse jumping showgrojnds with 10 thousand stables. I love the smell of horse shit, and this was scent was that to me, minus any methane smells, or urine smells. I ended up being torn between squid and t-rex, and ultimately got t-rex. But would like hyrax and squid for my collection
Thanks for the story! Hyrax is definitley one of the most animalic smelling things I've tried. It's crazy. If you love the smell of horses and saddles seek out Arabian Horse by Pierre Guillaume. :)
When I sampled this one, it does remind me strongly of the oud note in some of the skankier Xerjoff Oud Stars (e.g. Zafar, Malesia). And i agree with you, the linearity of this scent caused me to lost interest after a short while (but this is my personal olfactory preference). I did read somewhere that this scent has a small amount of real hyrax used as part of their hyrax accord.
Hey, I got to sample Penhalogin's Halfeti . Wow .I love it. I really don't think that's to feminine at all. I like it and it lasts forever. Thanks for the tip on that one. Will listen to your full review here when I get back.
I got a sample of this last week. My first impression is that I like it more than Civet, and my next thought was "how do I wear this?" lol. I loved Civet, but on second sniff it reminded me of public bathrooms after being cleaned because of the citrus, but still strangely likeable (my dad and brother liked Civet on first sniff, my mom not so much). I haven't tried wearing my zoologist ones out and about yet, but the longevity around the house has been allllll dayyyy. Amazing. But my first impressions of Hyrax was that I like it and want to share it with people and see what they think 😂 I'll write my impressions about the other ones I've tried in another comment 😊 Thank you for reviewing this one. I agree, it's a tough one, needs to be experienced for yourself!
It's a tough one right? It's so bold but that's what I love about the brand. Taking risks with perfume is kinda the same as taking risks with clothes. It's all fun!

Hmmm tough one. I always say..there are no rules when it comes to wearing certain fragrance styles in certain weather, you just gotta go with a lighter hand, and also consider where you are wearing it, office? outside? Lemme tell ya, a lady came to my shop the other day that was going to the ballet, she tried this and sprayed more than 10 sprayed on herself.......omg. We had to open the shop door for a while and I felt bad for the people in that theatre haha. This is a very unsafe blind buy. It's designed around heat and humidity so it might work! Just test it first.. :)
Literally smelled this. Smells like oxy acetylene welding as it burns. It's not as bad as I thought. Very strong fragrance tho. Strangely I don't get animalic. If it's in eau de cologne concentration I'd totally wear it. 👍
ouch110 Fragrance Reviews Hahaha I swear. When I was a kid we have a welding shop next to our house. I usually go there and help out my uncles. The first time I smelled Hyrax, it brought me back to that memory. 🤣🤣🤣

Yes they do, but the ingredient used is collecting from animal droppings. No harm done.
