  • I have always thought skiing and skating were very similar and go hand in hand for the off seasons. But are skiboards an even better option for inline skaters looking to ski? Find out in this episode of T+R.

    Ski boards were a game changer for me. After many years of skiing on traditional size skis, I tried ski boards for the first time and it was like an epiphany. I could instantly ski any slope with no problem at all. So much fun and I never went back to regular skis after that.

    Great video! It's interesting to hear a talented inline skater's perspective. I've been skiboarding for 24 years. Started on skis, switch to skiboards, dabbled with skis again about four seasons back but didn't stick with them. Shorties are just more fun to me. There are skiboards out there for varying terrain and all conditions. There's even a RVL8 Skiboards pro team of riders who are awesome in the terrain park.

I've tried cross country skiing which feels super weird, never tried downhill, and ice skating is not quite my jam. My son is a good inline skater/hockey player. When he was 7, I took him skiing for the first time, and put him on skiblades. His first day we stuck to the greens, no problem. Second day we did blues, third day we did blacks. By the fourth day he was flying down moguls and I threw my back out just trying to keep up with him.

    Skiboarding is very similar to inline. I actually was able to go from ski boarding to inline park riding very fast.
    For those that struggle, skimboards amplify all the things you do wrong on skis. You have to be better balanced on skiboards. Riding the edges is the best way to be successful. Having been through the shape ski introduction and ski board introduction while I was riding professionally allowed me to become better in all areas. Don't write them off because you cant do it. They are a great tool to improve areas of your skiing. We trained for PSIA with one ski and one skiboard. If you are truly a sound skier, you will not tell a difference no matter what you are strapped to.

      @ThirtyandRollin  Год назад +1

      Yes I have. They would be a shorter ski base like a skate wheel base but I wouldn't want anything much shorter than these. I think the super short snowfeet would be too limiting and squirrely. I think this is the sweet spot.

    • @mattgutzke777
      @mattgutzke777 Год назад

      @@ThirtyandRollin You are right with them being limited. They don't work well in deep snow. However if the snow is more hard pack, they are amazing. Feels exactly like the blades. Can even skate around on flat ground. I might invest in the skiboards next and take them out in deeper snow. Looks like lots of fun!

    closest thing to inline on snow would be bigfoots. The bindings were a total shitshow on those & got discontinued due to safety reasons in 2007. The non release binding kinda released when you were going fast, was pretty banging in snowboard parks though.
    The problem with snowblades (or skiboards as they call em these days) is that your choice is garbage, or slightly less garbage. nobody seems to invest in it & all the big players dropped out due to no profit or simply went bankrupt. the ones line made back in the day still makes all the current ones look like garbage.
    Would be cool to see a bigfoot revival based around snowboard bindings & boots. wich would make a lot more sense then ski boots as a platform.
    They're cool until you discover snowboarding, and then you completely forget about them imo. We usually did a day on something like this near the end of a ski trip, and sometimes only one bigfoot made it back hahah.

    • @ThirtyandRollin
      @ThirtyandRollin  Год назад +4

      I'd have to disagree. I would never want to skiboard in snowboard boots or bindings, too much slop. I have skied/skated for 20+ years and snowboarded for 14. Love them all but in terms of relating to inline skating nothing takes the cake like skiing or skiboarding. Snowboarding is great don't get me wrong but it's kinda like saying skateboarding is more fun than inline skating. And I don't think that argument can be settled. It's a matter of taste.
