This is by far the most well-articulated and comprehensive how-to video i have seen for creating a Macrium Reflect backup of Windows 10 and all my personal files, programs, and settings. Thank you very much.
I can't even express how incredible this video is, I want to hug you right now. Concise, right to the point, it takes just the right time for the vital explanations, and even went to the lenghts of demostrating the recuperation process. Simply a masterclass on how to make tutorials.
Thank you Rahul. I've viewed a few other Macrium Reflect videos but I think yours was right to the point! You enlarged the areas you were clicking so I could actually read from the screen. Your video will definitely be my "go to" video on how to use this product. Again, thank you!
Me too. Even the Macrium video fails to explain that one will need TWO backup drives to make a complete restoration possible - in it's simples form. Your video answered my question with minutes. Thank you!
Before I freshly installed my own copy of windows 10 I took a snapshot of HP oem software that came with the laptop. Very glad I did as I have run into issues and need the original software back. HP quoted me around £50 for the same software. Thank you for the tutorial. Very easy to follow
Helpful video ! Question 1: Since both disk are on MBR format can i just put the image onto the rescue media (all in one drive) Question 2: I have a dell computer, and I cannot get into the Macrium Reflect recovery media (booting into there from boot menu/ Win PE / rescue drive).
Good straightforward video. What would happen if you created your image but your original HP laptop was totally destroyed and you decided to buy a DELL laptop with a larger hard drive? Could you restore the image from your HP laptop with its 500 gig had drive to the new DELL laptop with a 1 T hard drive?
Awesome tutorial. Question My computer has two drives, a "C" (SSD) and a "D (HHD). Will I be able to back these both up at the same time onto an external drive?
Very clear, I like your approach. I had a backed up external drive G: which went corrupted and I wanted to just view it on the Macrium copy to see if I really had a full and updated copy of the G: drive. Suddenly it tried to take me through some obscure expansion of the data, in a process filled with jargon that I didn't understand, and it did not explain what the basic scheme was. I guessed that I had to expand from the mrimg file into some new set of files (a new copy of G: ?) so I tried to let it do that but it was all vague and I didn't know why I was doing it. What is needed is a narrative description of the basic idea, not a how to. Any user will eventually piece together a picture of what the basic idea is but it's usually a painful process. Only then will the "how to" make perfect sense. Your video was wonderful, but it does not cover other restore operations. I will search for another one you may have made.
Very well explained.. But i have one Question assuming i have a brand new laptop and want to Back up and Restore my windows in case i have problems in the future, should i first update my Windows settings or i should Do it Before i return to update my windows for the very first time
Great video, easy to understand. Question: After creating your first snapshot, can you come back in a week or two and create a second snapshot, so you have two options to choose from in restoring your C: drive? Or better yet, can you just leave your external drive plugged in and schedule Macrium Reflect to do a snapshot every month? Thanks.
I can now answer my own question. Macrium allows you to schedule your backups. It's one of the icons in the toolbar. Very easy, versatile and reliable.
Yes! But remember to always eject the drive before shutting down PC - Unless an auto restart happens - e.g. (after a backup) (I use software called USB Safely Remove) I previously asked Microsoft if it should be okay to plug back in before restarting and they said yes - but noticed that if you leave it physically plugged in when restarting there are issues - like drive not recognised
Thanks for showing us how to do this. Damned Windows Update screwed up my PC. Now, my MS Office 2010 Word & Excel won't load up, so I'm been wanting to move to new machine. Already have it setup, but I just have been poking around on moving to new hardware. Because I wanted to find a good way to do backups. I was using Acronis True Image, but it is starting to suck and they have a yearly / monthly fee to keep using it. So, I'm moving to something better that's not broken like Acronis True Image. Used to be top notch, but it is not what it used to be. And, slow as anything now.
Thanks for posting this! I went through this process last night and found the USB media creation took more than 20 minutes and I ultimately had to terminate the process. In the video, you stated the USB recovery media took 'several minutes' to complete, but do you remember how long it actually took? I'm trying to get a sense of how long to wait, since I won't be able to let it run indefinitely. Thanks in advance!
I've been a very happy Macrium Reflect user for years but recently had a the following issue : RESTORING FROM THE BOOT USB RESCUE DISK COULD NOT DETECT THE PRIMARY C: DRIVE MAKING IT USELESS. I turned my laptop upside down trying to resolve this (deleting/recreating partition; reinstall of Windows 11; nothing worked ! The problem was not with Macrium, but with Acer/Intel. There is a driver provided on the Intel site called "RST Raid driver". Issue solved !
Instead of overwritting the image on the infected hard drive where windows is showing problems (during the restore process), would be better maybe to format the hard drive first deleting all partitions and after that restore the image on it? Does creating the image of your c drive on an external hard, require the format of the external one at first?
After backing up the system image do you guys have the same note file "Reflect_Install" and "Setup" plus a file named "boot" that has another note file named "SearchPaths" can those files be deleted? thanks for your answers ☺️
Can all of this be done on a single 64gb flash drive for a new PC with nothing installed aside from what came on it? Provided there is sufficient space on the flash drive, that is. Mostly looking to use it as a true factory reset to return my PC to its "fresh out of the box condition" if anything catastrophic happens or if I ever sell it. Or does the rescue drive have to be seperate from the drive with the system image? Sorry if that's a dumb question. New PC owner lol
Is there a way or a software that just copies the folder and files in the original source structure so when i connect the "destination" hard disk to another pc i can read those folder and files normally, without me needing the backup software to read or restore those files? I can not find one. I tried many and they all, after the backup, create ONE SINGLE FILE that can only be read from the software that created it. And if i connect that external HD to another pc, I can not read those copied files coz the backup software is not installed in that second pc.
Thanks for this video. I had purchased my new laptop a week ago. If I perform backup like this, am I able to backup my whole preinstalled window with preinstalled softwares? My new laptop didn't come with recovery media. My goal is to backup whole window with preinstalled softwares so that I would not waste time in future on installing drivers and softwares again. Please suggest. :)
Hello, Navdeep, You can "Clone" your entire hard disk to an identical or similar hard drive (If you can spare one), you can avoid the entire process of re installing the Window OS(or any other) and the pre installed software . To the extent that just swapping the had drive will put you back in business instantly. I have cloned my laptop 2.5" SATA hard drive to 2.5" SSD using Macrium Reflect . In my desk top, the story is different. 120 GB SSD was cloned to 256 GB SSD and started using it right away. Hope you find a suitable solution with this input.
It might work if Macrium Reflect would install. Apparently you need to install the Windows Developer SDK. I can’t get the software to install with error #1, a problem that has not been fixed since 2015. Piece of junk.
Why does their support suck so bad? I've purchased the software for an emergency to get ready for early an start on tue after Christmas and 18 hours later I still have no working system! Their support structures suck. No installation help available till next day: -boo hoo... Will have to get the money back & return to Acronis for a faster recovery solution.
This is by far the most well-articulated and comprehensive how-to video i have seen for creating a Macrium Reflect backup of Windows 10 and all my personal files, programs, and settings. Thank you very much.
If only every tutorial video as straight forward and clear like this, we'd be advancing farther.
Thanks dude!!
Man, finally, i found the right video, thank you ! Simple and direct step by step, perfect tutorial !

I made system image with AOMEI and restore to another PC, worked like charm!
I have used Macrium R for 15 years and it has NEVER failed me. It's great, to say the least.
One of the best tutorials on youtube regarding backup and restoring windows..Easy to follow and straight to the point. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for walking us through the full process. It was very clear and precise.
I cannot achieve the task with this tool, but I did that with Aomei backupper which worked perfectly.
Yes, I must agree this guy does an excellent job in explaining the process of creating and restoring a PC using a system image from Macrium Reflect!

AAA - Simple and straight forward, thanks - some people just have the knack.
Awesome video! Straight to the point instructions, and very easy to follow! Thanks man!

Thanks a bunch for posting this clear and concise video . You've been a big help.
Thank you very much for this. But I've a question. Can we restore the snapshot on a different SSD?
This was a very helpful tutorial. Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

Astonishing video. You the man!!
Wonderfully informative. Thanks for this. Instead of a USB drive can I make a optical rescue disk on DVD?
Very straight forward and easy to follow. Thanks for the video!
Outstanding presentation.
Great vid. Learned something new.
Great video, easy to understand.

Well explained but this tool is not working for me, hope there's another tool can do this as well.
It's very helpful thanks for the details bro.
Thanks Rahul, you're a star mate. Very helpful vid, much appreciated. take care brother.

amazing video. very informative and complete! thank you
I thought you had to make an iso file within the rescue media. Do you know in which situation you have to make an iso file ?
very clear and easy explanation
Hi, great work, much helpful. Does this process work with Windows XP?
This was very helpful. Thank you for posting!
Your tutorial was awesome. Thanks.
A most excellent video. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise!

I have a question, is it possible to create recovery media and image of the partitions on the same usb flash disk?

Is sure that in this program Macrium can i do lots of backups?
This tool ask me to upgrade to complete my task no good, it's better to use Aomei.
Can I clone the laptop HDD to USB Flashdisk then install it later on to my new SSD?
Can the system image created be stored in USB drive which was used to make bootable USB?
Does the recover drive need to be in MBR format?
Thank you so much for making this so clear

Does the drive that I'll save my system image on also need to be empty? Or can it have other files with it?
I only have one usb port. Once the system has booted with the recovery drive, can I remove it and plug the windows image drive in?
Well done. Thank you!

Thanks for the video!!
What's the difference between ''Image selected disks...'' and ''Create an image...''?
I use aomei rather than this macrium, aomei works better.
Can i put the rescue media and my snapshot in one single pendrive and use it ?
Thank you!
Good job ! Thanks a lot
Image selected disks v Create an image of the partition(s)???????? what is the difference

Very good video

The USB disk does not contain a partition table, it may not be UEFI bootable - no explanation so the software is usless
Make sure you uncheck - enable Multi Boot - then it will work
AOMEI Backupper is faster
Why does their support suck so bad?
I've purchased the software for an emergency to get ready for early an start on tue after Christmas and 18 hours later I still have no working system!
