Hi Bracer Jack In the beginning, when we are supposed to connect an external portable drive to the laptop to store the snapshot system image, how big (of a storage space) should the portable drive be? In your example you used a drive that was 465gb, but can I use a simple thumb drive that is only 16gb in size? Make two clones, one as your laptop in just purchased mode. One where all the stuff you need are installed. This is so that if anything happens, you can choose which clone to go back to :D
I have already created and saved a snapshot into my external harddisk. In the future when I want to restore, I also need a pendrive to run the software from boot, right? Hello jem gamazon, if your laptop is still working reasonably well, it might be to your advantage to make a clone of it nonetheless so that under any possible worst case scenario, you will always have this moment to return back to, it may no longer be "manufacture state" perfect, but at least you can still revert it to its current functional state if anything happens to your laptop.

Do you need an empty external portable drive? Or can I use one that has a few files on it? Thanks :)
Yes you can use your extra portable drive that have files in it it's ok, as long as it have enough free space to store the clone image :D
@@BracerJack Thank you!
@@guapepenguin You are welcome Liam :D
@Bracer Jack Hi! Would you have an estimate number of how much free space is needed for the snapshot? 😊
Hello, i was wondering if you could create the masterboot alongside with the windows copy, or the masterboot has to be up-to-date?
You can do both at the same time, the masterboot don't have to be constantly updated :D
@@BracerJack alright thanks!
@@klad2860 You are welcome :-)
Hi Bracer Jack! Would you recommend that I install MS office first before I take the snapshot system image? :)
Also, would you have an estimate number of how much free space is needed for the snapshot? 😊
Make two clones, one as your laptop in just purchased mode.
One where all the stuff you need are installed.
This is so that if anything happens, you can choose which clone to go back to :D
Assuming you didn't install anything extra or that the laptop didn't come with too much bloatware, a 32GB capacity drive should be enough :D
Thank you very much! Your videos are so helpful and so are your replies to our queries. Keep safe! 😊
I have already created and saved a snapshot into my external harddisk. In the future when I want to restore, I also need a pendrive to run the software from boot, right?
Also, do I have to keep the software installed after creating the snapshot? Does files contained in the pendrive get wiped when its made into master boot drive?
Correct, when it is time, you can make that masterboot thumbdrive :D
Once you are sure there are no longer any possible future state(s) you would like to make a clone of, then yeah, you don't need the program hanging around.
You are free to remove it :D
@@BracerJack Thank you for answering these questions in the comments.
@@nervousneighbour You are welcome :-D
Hi mr. Jack can i make partition after cloning in external drive
On the computer's drive or the external drive?
Yo man thx for this video because it's extremely important but i'm confused:
•Can I do the master usb boot after doing the snapshot if my laptop is brand new?
I say this because if my laptop is brand new, I can do a master usb boot instantly after doing the snapshot so there's no worry about nothing because it's pure.
Yes you can do the masterboot before or after the snapshot, it doesn't matter :D
You are alright, don't worry too much, I believe you know what you are doing :D
Connected to internet, remembered this video after it fully started and went to the home screen... oh well 😂 I've had my new gaming laptop on for about 30 minutes total so it should be fine.
Yes yes, remember to do the clone 🤣
Remember to learn some 3D modeling or video editing while using your new gaming laptop ;-p
@@BracerJack Well, my flash drives had too little space so I bought a pack of 3 32gb drives. I'll finally complete it today and get to downloading steam and learning 3d modelling with help from your videos 😎

Can I just make 1 thumbdrive with the boot file to use on multiple laptops or do I need to make 1 for each?
That's what I do, I use one thumbdrive as the boot device and use it for all my laptops.
Yeah !
@@BracerJack Sweet. Thank you so much for your quick response. I appreciate it.
Is there a difference between a regular laptop reset and creating an image of the new laptop? Do they achieve the same thing?
The answer was explained 4:38 minutes into the video :D
I am not sure I got the steps correctly, so:
1. Activate your new laptop but do not connect to the internet
2. Download Macrium Reflect using another PC and save it on a thumbdrive
3. Insert the thumbdrive with Macrium Reflect and install on the new laptop
4. Run the program and create a snapshot of your new laptop
5. Keep the thumbdrive in the event you need to restore your new laptop to factory default state.
Question: so in the snapshot you created for your new laptop, you will also have a Macrium Reflect app right?
Since you created a snapshot after this app was installed... Or am I missing something here... 🤔
Yes the snapshot will also contain macrium yes.
I suppose you are asking if it is OK to uninstall the software after the clone is made or when the image is cloned back.
The answer is yes Techno Klutz :-)
And I LOVE the way you understand it in steps, remember to teach this to your friends or else this might happen to them:

@@BracerJack I will share this knowledge to our local tech community :)
@@BracerJack Although this is no longer applicable on my case since I have bought my laptop 2 months back and this video showed up yesterday only... :/
@@technoklutz It's okay, so long as your system is still working fine, this is as good a time as any to make that clone. Think about it, it could have been worse, one could have never made the clone and have nothing to go back to.
Can i use my portable hard disk drive with files with it? Or should i get a new usb thumb?
The storage drive which you use to store the system image can be use like any regular storage drive, so don't have to keep it just to store the cloned image files.
The thumbdrive which you use to create the bootable interface on the other hand...best to keep that clean.
@@BracerJack i already created a system image file and i stored it temporarily on my drive D can i transfer it to my new usb thumb? and after i transfer the image file to my new usb thumb i will now create a masterboot using my new usb thumb? or the masterboot usb should not have files contained with it? im confused. thank u for responding

Hi! Does this work for backing up from computer A and restoring into another computer B? I can’t seem to get it to work !
No, you clone from a machine and restore to the same machine, not to another machine ;p
it might work but most likely not because different machine have different hardware and different drivers for those hardware.
Hi, just want to ensure. During the restore phase, we need to have master usb, which is different with usb that has reflect image? So 2 usb thumb drive?
The storage drive which you use to store the system image can be use like any regular storage drive, so don't have to keep it just to store the cloned image files.
The thumbdrive which you use to create the bootable interface on the other hand...best to keep that clean.
@@BracerJack Why not put the image on the one with the bootable interface? I would think you would want to keep the image away from a regular use drive, the more you use it the more that could go wrong.
@@endemion06463 You can put the system image file in your normal day-to-day external drive, you should leave the master boot drive alone, at least that would be best practice, though of course if you do have the resources, it would also be really good to have a drive dedicated to the system image clones but that's a little overkill...
what if i already set it up,and already connected to wifi, what should i do now?i got my laptop just yesterday
One question:
Does it have bad impacts for my laptop when I charge it with a 60 W charger (needs 230 W) to extend the battery life in university and not bring the heavy adapter with.
You know I always wonder about that...does a low wattage charger preserve the battery ? I also don't know.
Lower than required is bad..higher than required no problem..
Also, thanks for showing us how to do this. Damned Windows Update screwed up my PC. Now, my MS Office 2010 Word & Excel won't load up, so I'm been wanting to move to new machine. Already have it setup, but I just have been poking around on moving to new hardware. Because I wanted to find a good way to do backups. I was using Acronis True Image, but it is starting to suck and they have a yearly / monthly fee to keep using it. So, I'm moving to something better that's not broken like Acronis True Image. Used to be top notch, but it is not what it used to be. And, slow as anything now.
I never got a chance to try Acronis True Image, I wanted to try clonezilla though...but the website was so confusing to me during the time were I checked it.
I have a 1.5 tb external hard disk with some files in it, can I create a snapshot on that external hard disk? And after doing that can I use an 8gb usb to boot?
Yes and Yes !

what capacity of external drive require for this process?
Assuming you didn't install anything extra or that the laptop didn't come with too much bloatware, a 32GB capacity drive should be enough :D
@@BracerJack Hi! same question, but does the external drive need to be empty for this to work?
@@_segori The external drive doesn't have to empty to save a system image to it. You just need to have enough space avaliable. Basically just look at your c drive and see how much space is used. That would give you a very close estimate of how much drive space you'd need on the external drive.
@@techmaster170 and does the usb drive needs to be empty for the master boot ?
@@shirish_yt oh when you create your bootable media so you can restore the image? Yes, that drive should be empty.
My laptop has 1 year of use, does this still work or will it no longer have an effect?
One year is a long time...but if your laptop is still working reasonably well, it might be to your advantage to make a clone of it nonetheless so that under any possible worst case scenario, you will always have this moment to return back to, it may no longer be "manufacture state" perfect, but at least you can still revert it to its current functional state if anything happens to your laptop.
Can the portable drive with the snapshot image be the same one with the mcrium installer?
The storage drive which you use to store the system image can be use like any regular storage drive, so don't have to keep it just to store the cloned image files.
@@BracerJack does the windows version stay the same when you snapshotted it or will it change. Example when you snapshotted it its windows 9 then you updated it to windows 10. When you turn it back will it still be windows 9?
Just did this with New Alienware M15 R4 and the storage space needed was 72 gbs! lol is that normal?
No it is not, assuming you have not installed anything too big and everything is as pure as can be including all usually required drivers, the file size should be about 18.6 GB.
The masterboot USB which is another separate device, only requires 600mb.
