    I'm glad someone finally called out hall effect technology. It gets a lot of buzz whenever it's used but it's not a monolith like a Sanwa joystick or Dolby Surround. Hall effect isn't regulated and can be a achieved on the cheap with shoddy components.
    Excellent review by the way.

      Exactly! A quality module is a quality module, and I've literally never heard of any widespread drift issue until the switch joycons came out. Now it's implied that every non-hall stick will drift within days or something which has not been my experience at all. In fact, the rubber bands rather than the potentiometer wear out much faster in my experience.

    • @Lunacy_Phoenix
      @Lunacy_Phoenix 9 месяцев назад

      I have had 2 GameSir G7 SE's for over 3 months with equal time on both. While I agree the no drift claim is BS (Only because the spring to recentre will wear down, but the sensors will almost NEVER be the cause like on potentiometer sticks) I have found that the K-Silver Hall Effect sticks are FAR more accurate than ANY potentiometer PERIOD!, I can make tiny micro movements that no other controller I have used would even register. If you had problems it is just because GuliKit used cheaper garbage Hall Sticks, but any decent Hall will OBLITERATE ANY potentiometer. It is time for a FORCED overnight shift, either all controllers upgrade to Hall Effect sticks NOW or we should let them rot on the shelves. Regardless of features or quality, it either has Hall effect sticks or its E - waste.

      @@Lunacy_Phoenix This controller uses hall sensors on the triggers but not the sticks. Weird, but anyway, what hall sensor controllers with high quality parts do you know that can provide up to 1000Hz polling rate out of the box? I play racing games a lot, especially rally games where every millisecond and millimeters matters.

    • @june3149
      @june3149 3 месяца назад

      @@Lunacy_Phoenix u sure it isn't solely because of the polling rate or response times? alot of japanese pro players still sticks with potentiometer joysticks since they appreciate more inputs and (for accuracy) a higher stick resolution.

    • @Lunacy_Phoenix
      @Lunacy_Phoenix 3 месяца назад

      @@june3149 No, even at its stock polling rate of 250Hz (Same as a standard PS4/5 controller) the Hall effect sticks in my G7 SE obliterate ANY potentiometer. As I said I can even make tiny precise movements that refuse to register on potentiometer controllers. Hall effect is the future, and any manufacturer that refuses to keep up should go out of business ASAP as a warning to the rest.

    I wish it would work with the ps5 too. I love my Razer Wolverine Ultimate, but I can only really make use of it on my PC and Xbox Series console. Was looking into buying this, since I like the Razer Wolverine Tournament Edition Xbox button layout with the 2 buttons up top, 2 on the back makes it so nice, but unofrtunately it won't work on the PS5, which is a bit dissapointing, unless VK shows that it doesn't work at all with ps5 games. Neverthelessw would be nice for games like Apex, Titanfall 2, Halo, Splitgate and could even be useful in games like gt7, assetto corsa, etc.

      Get the Goku adapter from gullikit, the people that make the king Kong series of controllers. Let's you use any controllers on any system with a USB port.

    Darn shame about the d-pad and B button. This was nearly a 'get right now' purchase.
    I need B for my Soulsborne games, and the d-pad for my side scrollers. Hope they revise these issues.
    I think there is a function with the sticks were it can calculate the center position. The Playstation 2 had this in its controllers. So this could be an interesting fix for stick drift to revisit.

    • @RetroBreezeYT
      @RetroBreezeYT  8 месяцев назад

      The Nintendo sticks often had a proprietary (patented) method to recalibrate the center point and avoid drift as well. GameCub controllers calibrate when plugged in, so if you hold the stick in a direction and plug in, that direction will be "neutral". Not sure if they ditched that on Switch, but those modules were just really low quality modules anyway.

    Can you please share your Gyroscope slider settings from the PC program instead of the app? I got the white and green model that stupidly isn’t supported for the iOS app, so I do it on the PC itself. I can’t find a gyroscope load out of settings that feels perfect, like the steamdeck does for example.

    • @RetroBreezeYT
      @RetroBreezeYT  9 месяцев назад +7

      Haha for sure, I had a feeling that statement might push some buttons. Here's how I see it- Hall sensors are not a new technology- Saturn and Dreamcast both used them. Recently, it was only because Nintendo screwed up with their *terrible* JoyCons that hall sensors became a talking point again and companies began to HEAVILY market "drift-free" hall sensor sticks. Before that, it was never talked about and drift was never a widespread issue except perhaps with budget off-brand controllers. Now suddenly it's become a huge selling point despite there being no actual tests or hard proof that they last any longer than potentiometer sticks in the long-term. In my personal experience, the quality of the module is far more important for longevity than whether it's hall or not. I've had went through three sets of GuliKit hall-sensor joycon modules because the first two were faulty out of the box. Halls also have their own drawbacks like magnetic interference and falling out of calibration more often (a nitpick I know). I'm not saying that Halls are bad, in fact I think it's the better technology and I prefer to have them, but the importance of them is way overblown and I definitely think it's a waste to overlook a great controller just because they use traditional (tried and tested) potentiometer sticks. Just my opinion, of course!

      Hall effect isn’t mechanical so it will not degrade. Other analog sticks use mechanics potentiometers that degrade over time. Meaning your inputs change over time whereas Hall effect stays consistent forever

    • @RetroBreezeYT
      @RetroBreezeYT  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@zekethep1umber theoretically. Nobody has actually tested this at all. Magnets do actually degrade over time, although it's doubtful you'd notice it during the life span of the controller. My main issue with the hall craze is that there is absolutely no proof whatsoever that they last longer, and talk of them being "smoother" or "more accurate" is utter nonsense!
