    Lenovo has to build an external GPU enclosure that allows you to connect the Lenovo Legion Go to a dock with a GPU as easily as a a switch connects to the switch dock and then this could be the best "mobile" gaming handheld ever made.

    I have a steam deck and I really love it, but getting it to play nice with the tv downstairs to show my parents games is a massive pain. Smart TV features are slow and buggy, sometimes entirely unresponsive. I've gotten my mum into some light gaming too, and there are games coming out soon that I know she would enjoy, so I've been thinking about getting this device as one that could basically live downstairs for my mum to use and to use as an alternative media hub for the TV. Price tag is super good for all that it can do imo. Still not completely sold on it though.
    Update: I now have a legion go and am using it to write this. Loving it so far! The screen is stunning!

    I usually love your videos but the fact this was sponsored by Lenovo feels sorta "sus" to me and just feels like an ad for the device instead of an overview from a tech channel known for honest takes and thoughts on new devices. You made ALOT of great points regarding the performance and the hardware with the legion GO, but you didn't mention any of it's short comings compared to other handheld competitors out right now.
    The software is quite honestly terrible at the moment. Yes, it will be fixed with time but compared to the ROG Ally or the steam deck, software is VERY lacking. The weight of the device can be a massive issue for most people looking to play games on the GO (as the name implies). While yes you can use the device docked and remove the controllers, using the device in your hands with the controllers attached is almost 2 lbs of weight which is almost double the weight of the ROG Ally and the Steam Deck OLED. Lastly the ergonomics of the device while in hand-held mode is pretty uncomfortable. Sharp edges dig into your palms and the placement of some of the buttons is very questionable.
    FPS mode is kind of a gimmick once you have it in your hands. I loved the idea, but the execution is a lot to be desired due to the off placement of the controls on the right controller. No matter how long I played an FPS I couldn't wrap my brain around the button placement and it ended up being easier just using a bluetooth gaming mouse (which you can do with any other handheld out there).
    All in all the Legion GO is amazing in terms of it's specs/performance/features and its wonderful for people wanting a desktop experience in a portable package! However, sadly the hardware and software cons (at the moment) outweigh (pun intended) the good when I am looking for a portable handheld gaming system.

    • @Darktega
      @Darktega 7 месяцев назад +1

      Keep in mind that at 4K the 3060 Ti is gonna be the bottleneck, like sure, it runs nice in this case, but for other games a 3060 Ti isn’t really a 4K GPU. If you are playing at 1080p for example, then the Legion Pro’s CPU WILL be the bottleneck, more significantly so with a 4070.
      Or course, what you will notice will depend on what PC gaming setup you have. If you are usually playing on a laptop with the eGPU then you are probably not going to notice any difference, if you use a full desktop gaming PC with any CPU that’s recommended for gaming then yeah, you are seeing a difference.
      TL;DR: In Bob’s case, bottleneck is at GPU because of 4K and it likely is in his desktop PC as well, not CPU.

Yes, vrr would be nice, but I’ve been living without it with the steam deck. You mention the z13 flow tablet in another comment. Yeah it’s exponentially more powerful but it’s also exponentially more expensive. This device sits in my sweet spot (especially since I found a Best Buy open box for $600 for the 1tb) for a device that I can turn into a switch pro with parts I already have laying around (egpu). Just got an Ally, and it is my replacement for a dedicated PC on my living room. It is in fact, spec for spec, more powerful than the one that I was using, but that's mainly because it was an old Optiplex, despite quite upgraded - 4790K, RX 6400, 16 GB Ram and SSDs. With a dock like these Ugreen, Jsaux, Baseus, etc, I don't think anyone that want a gaming desktop (within reasonable expectation) could go wrong with either the Ally or the Legion Go, and that's not considering the eGPU. Factoring these in, then for all intents and purposes, I thing they are a valid replacement for a desktop PC.

      Pretty much. I got my desktop AFTER I got my steam deck. As my PC was starting to die, and due for upgrade after 10 years. Regret getting a GPU for it. Because... I've played games on it only a few times.

      Issue with Ally on eGPU front is that Asus went for a proprietary plug so you will wind up paying a lot more vs standard eGPU. That said, Ally software/performance is quite ahead of Lenovo right now. Go has a lot of catching up to do and I am not certain Lenovo will actually put the support behind it.

    Just a note for the eGPU + Legion Pro handheld bottleneck “issue”: at 4K the bottleneck WILL be in the GPU most of the time, you would probably start running into Legion Pro limitations if you were using a 1080p monitor as then you would be CPU bound.

    • @Originalimoc
      @Originalimoc 6 месяцев назад +2

      Still not likely, bottleneck should on the USB4 link not CPU, the Zen 4 8 cores at 30W is superfast no current game can be bottlenecked by it.

    • @Rroff2
      @Rroff2 5 месяцев назад +1

      As mentioned above the CPU is actually pretty decent - even at 5 watt TDP it will hang in surprisingly well with older Ryzen desktop CPUs like the 2000 series and with everything maxed for performance it is actually not that far behind a desktop AMD 5800X!
      The GPU and where relevant USB4 link is the weakness.

    Dude my legion go was one of the best decisions I have ever made in terms of buying something that will keep giving me the entertainment that I want from it. This thing is an absolute UNIT for a handheld. My only issue is that the right side joystick RGB light has stopped functioning properly, as well as the controllers are a bit rigid in the hand. I'm real excited for the prospect of third parties coming in and making controller attachments or even whole new attachable controllers. The possibilities for this device are literally endless. I urge anyone who is on the fence about buy one of these, to go for it. You're more than likely going to love it. Just make sure you buy the 1tb version at least.

    I have a RTX 3080 + Razer Core X that I'm using with my Legion Go! Decided to sell my PS5 and Steam Deck since my handheld device can also be a docked 4k device with this setup. I even have my Legion Go boot into a PS5like theme on Playnite so that it even looks like I'm launching my games from the PS5 operating system. But now I can take everything on the go with me, without streaming any games, without paying any online subscription, without buying games on two different platforms for cross platform saves, and having access to every game library. It's practically a PS5/desktop pc when docked, and a PS4 in handheld. It is honestly surprising how well it works. All in cost was about $1500 after buying the Legion Go ($750), Razer Core X ($250 used on Ebay), and RTX 3080 10GB ($400 refurbished on Ebay). Yeah, I could build a more powerful pc with $1500. But, I can still manage 60 fps at 4k extreme settings on Call of Duty MW3 using the RTX 3080 in the Razer Core X. I'd rather have the flexibility that this setup provides than the little bit more performance an actual desktop pc would bring. I love it 👍

The sensitivity is a bit wack, so adjust it accordingly in Legion Space or Steam. Use your main L/R triggers as Left/Right mouse. Steam has to be running, so either touchscreen/touchpad it at bootup or have it in your startup apps in the background. GL!!
