The Rog Ally shouldn't be considered a portable handheld. 50 minutes is less than what a Game Gear could manage from the 90's, and that was a failure due to battery life.
I have the ally and the go. For now, the ally is a better experience. As much as i like the screen on the G, it is in dire need of updates to fix several issues.

I ended up buying the legion go and it blew me away. it does everything i need. I was actually leaning towards the rog ally but the legion go took the spotlight for me.
Legion 🫡 salute...best display out on any handheld ....Oled can kick rocks...My experience with Legion has been the best ...and I can remotely play PS5 as it can do Portal ..oh yeeeah 👍🏽
If I had to pick a high end gaming handheld it would be the Legion go because bigger screen and the controllers come off and it just kick ass oh yeah !!!!!
I think you need to use integer scaling, to scale the res up from 800p to 1600p in the GO, to extend batt life (a lower res than the ally, but a better appearance). Pls dont at me; not a dr.
steam deck: lost me on linux because if i finish a singlaplayer game i want to be able to run trainers/mods on it and most of them are created for windows so it will be easier to mod. Asus rog: lost me because of sd card potential issue, design and color and battery life. Lenovo currently is worth it if i find it on sale and it's honestly something that can do everything and even after 2-4 years when something better comes out. this still is a tablet with windows11, something i wanted microsoft to do for a long time.. and i can still steam link to my pc and use the lenovo in low power. it's an amazing review, only something maybe i would include or make a video about is how easy it is to upgrade the ssd and repair, Asus rog is the easiest to replace the analog and ssd, legion go is not that easy and it will be more expensive to fix replace the analog, also the sound or maybe i missed that section if you talked about it. anyway good review subbed and hope to see more reviews!
Thanks for the suggestion! I don’t think I did anything special other than just setup Emudeck, which there are already good videos about. Give it a search, I think @RetroGameCorps has a pretty in-depth tutorial already
Awesome video! Just bought my ROG Ally the day before thanksgiving and I’m loving it so far. While I like the bigger screen of the legion GO, the package that the ally offered was more appealing (especially how it’s matured over the last five months). Looking forward to see how the handheld landscape progresses!
its very simple. Legion Go have powerful Z1 Extreme but also screen that can be easily and without decreasing screen quality lowering resolution to 1280x800 and you have killer pc handheld. Aditionaly - trackpad that is absolutely essential for Windows. There is no other device like that on the market. Its a clear win
The Legion Go has significantly improved in performance. The Ally was running better 15 watts and lower than the Legion Go because it has a lower frequency speed on the RAM. The Legion Go using 7500mt frequency at lower than 20 watts will have the system down clock the GPU due to not enough power to go to both the RAM and the GPU. Lowering the memory frequency on the Legion Go to 6400mt which is ROG Ally frequency will have the GPU clock go back up. Legion Go performs the same if not better than the ROG Ally now with the newest drivers and the option to switch between RAM frequencies based on your wattage. There is the also bonus that since the type of RAM the Legion Go uses is more energy efficient, the battery life when set to 6400mt gives it even more battery life than the ROG Ally.
The one thing that is holding these windows handheld is lack of collaboration. If asus had shared their optimisations with lenovo, or Microsoft made a Handheld mode into windows, a lot of the problems will be nonexistent. Steam Deck managed to have the optimisations it have because it’s platform is Open Source, someone in his basement can fix something on the Linux kernal, it will help the entire Linux OS and hence it helps the Deck itself. Nobody is holding their work only for them, it’s shared with the community… If windows did anything similar like that, windows handheld will be so damn good… Damn I really want these windows handhelds to be good.
@@Jacob-rr3bz yeah u r right. I always think how successful xbox would be if it had an gaming optimised windows system in it, again something like steam os. I mean Steam Os on steam deck is basically a desktop linux optimised for gaming. Why didn’t microsoft do that??! damn what a missed opportunity…
Both devices have their ups and downs for me i picked the ally because i can easily upgrade its SSD via PCI adapter. Keep in mind both devices run on Win11 which can consume a lot of free space
I have the Steam Deck OLED and the Lenovo Legion Go as well as the Nintendo Switch v2... out of all the 3, the Legion Go is the most powerful one, but the battery doesn't last long at all, the Steam Deck OLED comes in second place with battery life, and my Nintendo Switch comes in 1st!. I tried to emulate Nintendo Switch on both the Steam Deck OLED and the Legion Go but some games don't run well, so I'm gonna buy a modded Nintendo Switch OLED so i can play Nintendo exclusives on it, and my pc games on my other two depending how I feel lol.

This was a great video. I have both as well and make videos about them and like you I don't want to make a "vs" thing between them but I do end up picking up the ally more
I'm also seeing the discrepancy between the Go and the Ally. Even using custom and setting TDP at 25W, the Go just stick to max 18W for me. Causing stuttering in ToTK compared to the Ally.
1st video I watch from you and love it!! Amazing job, I bought the LGo and the SD Oled. Still deciding but incline a little towards the SD. Also, what’s the wallpaper on the LGo, looks sick!
in norway the prices are 100% identical on both, i wish i waited i want the Legion go due to fps mode. its finicky but it solves so many problems i have with handheld not wanting to drag around extra gear and so on. i might actually sell my ally and go legion.
Lol thanks, I'm thinking of a "what's on my handheld?" kinda video where I can talk about that, but until then you can just download Wallpaper Engine from Steam and Rainmeter from their page and do some research. Pretty easy when you get into it, cheers! :)
I'm surprised this is only your fourth video. I was shocked when you said that in the end. It is so polished. Did you have another channel before this? Good video, I'm really torn which one to pick or just pick the Ocolus 3. I do like the legion it really seems to have great potential but it seems like most reviewers prefer Asus. Which is too bad since Asus has really bad QA issues. For the past 10 years I have had 5 or 6 Asus computers that had problems and had to be sent for repair. (Granted their support is really good but still don't want the hassle) While i have had 4 or 5 Lenovo computers and have never had an issue with any of them.
Thank you! I definitely want to upload a video I feel like I did my very best on. I did not have a channel before this, so also the time between videos is me still learning editing and how to even write/shoot videos like these. I do watch a ton of RUclips tho, so maybe using a copycat jutsu of sorts. Either way, thanks a bunch 🫶 I’d say go with your heart on this one, a gaming handheld and a VR headset have very different use cases. I don’t have a headset myself, but I’ve used them and can see why it’s a hard choice. At the end of the day, I hope the video at least helped inform your decision, and that you’re happy with whatever the device you get is 🫰🏻
you could compare it to the kun xD since they are similar it has superior battery *it can last like 3-4h on demanding games*, useful trackpads *they are firmware aka they work even in recovery mode*, 2280ssd and more ram however its not all good ayaneo is known to have hit or miss with qc and getting things fixed if it brakes … and the price is steep 1300$ for best priced model of the kun 👀 it can be a desktop replacement imo so it's worth the price
Welcome aboard, and thank you! 🙏 Since you asked, I do have an OLED unit coming in. However, I have a slightly different kind of video planned for that. Going to take some time since I’ll have to test and all, but getting that one out for the holiday season :)
Thanks, I’m using rainmeter for all of my widgets and wallpaper engine for the moving wallpaper. Can’t exactly remember which widgets these are but you can find them on the Reddit
The issue with emulation is that on 18:55 you have os power mode to efficient. Man, emulation is more cpu than gpu expensive. You should be running it on lower thermal profile, but with highest os power mode/cpu clocks
Amazing video thankyou for making this! I really wanna know if the legion go can properly run unreal engine 5. Any luck with that? Alsoooo good luck with your channel dude. Im really contemplating ally vs go but ive had an rog laptop and issues popped up quickly. So I'm not sure if i want the ally especially since fixing the sd card reader in my country would be too difficult. So the go seems better but im wondering how soon a new device thats ideal would be out lol
Thanks so much! I haven’t actually played any UE5 games or done any dev work on either device, so sorry about that. It does seem like you may want to go with the Legion since the issues are mostly software instead of hardware, so hope you find what works 🙌
I apologize if this has already been brought up but on all of these handhelds unfortunately we have to wait for drivers to be shot out by the manufacturer instead of AMD
No need to apologize! Since this video has gone up, a fair amount of updates have come out that improve performance on this device greatly. Still more room for growth as these find their full potential
The legion go has potential, but I can see the legion go 2 launching either late 2024, or early 2025 and the go 1 will be left in the dust and it's potential will never really be explored. Maybe by some hobby enthusiasts
I think Rog Ally (or how some people and me call it in my country- Rogalik) would be better for me cause the only thing i'm interested in Legion Go is the FPS mode but if it's not even that good than why should i buy it? Only thing i need is power (and not even really, i have a Steam Deck and i think it's strong enough) and Windows 11 cause.... Linux is so limiting like with Easy Anti-Cheat games and diffrent stores like Microsoft Store making PC Game Pass impossible
My Legion Go's right controller didn't fit correctly out of the box. It flexes back and forth, compared to a sturdy left one. It's loud as fuck, and the ergonomics for my hands are terrible. I really wanted to love it but it feels like an engineering sample hat accidentally made it to production.
I think go my next one. I really want something to test against my aya 2. Without buying another ayaneo product. Which gets a bad rep cos theyre expensive and ppl aint used to being pc ppl. Like with your VRR. 3x usb c ports. 32gb ram, 2tb, duck version. Even the handheld is a premium product. All glass front and back. Just buy one used and when a new one comes out. Got mine for £600. Average price then. Forgot the best feature. No bezel. That shit winds me up lol.

I have the ally and the go. For now, the ally is a better experience. As much as i like the screen on the G, it is in dire need of updates to fix several issues.
I have a Steam Deck (non OLED), a Ally and a Legion Go for testing. The only i can Recommend is R.O.G. Ally with 120Hz VRR and Z1 Extrem! Only super smooth Gaming System on Go.
Damn, that's a seriously well balanced, concise and unbiased overview of the situation with these 2 devices! Great job 👌🏾
I kinda want the Legion Go as a small windows tablet and casual gaming . There isn’t an 8 in tablet out there besides the iPad mini that has what I want. The Lenovo go does and more
All the best with your channel Joseph - almost 1k subs after just 4 vids is insane, keep making great vids! 🙌
Just got my Legion Go and it’s literally a gaming beast.. emulating on this thing is mind boggling! Incredible performance on this thing without a doubt. Deck and ally wouldn’t stand a chance (ik ally has the same cpu but the faster ram in the legion is what really helped performance wise)
What are you taking about? At the current state of Legion Go, performances are higher on the Ally, especially at lower tdp.
@@shattia for my experience the legion go is a gaming powerhouse even at 10 tdp just gotta lower the settings in game. Bought the ally before and the performance was not good for me couldn’t even run lower tier games
@@jvwrld08 I see that’s super weird because I’m getting great performances on the Ally. At the end of the day, with windows handled, software/drivers make a big difference with performances.
Cheers man @@shattia
You got my like in the first 11 seconds. Then I stuck around till the end. Great review, I appreciate your time and effort. 🙏
I loved the zoolander reference at 9:45 lol. I quote that movie at least weekly.
My favorite review thus far! I've watched a ton of reviews knowing I want to buy the GO in the upcoming months but am trying to sit on it trying not to just rush out & just get it. This was refreshingly honest & just a sweet time. Loved this thx Joesph!
Aw, thank you! Hope that if and when you get it, it can meet up to your wildest dreams 😊
Yes it can compete. Its freaking awesome
I ended up buying the legion go and it blew me away. it does everything i need. I was actually leaning towards the rog ally but the legion go took the spotlight for me.
This reminds me of the old portables of the 90s: The Steam Deck is the Game Boy, the Ally is the Game Gear, and the Legion Go is the Lynx.
Legion 🫡 salute...best display out on any handheld ....Oled can kick rocks...My experience with Legion has been the best ...and I can remotely play PS5 as it can do Portal ..oh yeeeah 👍🏽
Top quality vid I went to look at ur subs and thought it was 160k not 1.6k 🤦🏽♂️😂 you’ll definitely get there in no time tho
How do i get my window home screen to look so nice, what widget is that for the Ram and CPU
Please do an emulation how to video for the Legion Go. I would love to be able to set my Go up like yours. Thanks in advance
Thanks for the suggestion! I don’t think I did anything special other than just setup Emudeck, which there are already good videos about. Give it a search, I think @RetroGameCorps has a pretty in-depth tutorial already
really good in depth comparison video!
I appreciate your points!
Nobody is holding their work only for them, it’s shared with the community…
If windows did anything similar like that, windows handheld will be so damn good… Damn I really want these windows handhelds to be good.
I suppose that the main reason why Microsoft has not launched a Windows for games exclusively is the damn XBOX
@@Jacob-rr3bz yeah u r right. I always think how successful xbox would be if it had an gaming optimised windows system in it, again something like steam os. I mean Steam Os on steam deck is basically a desktop linux optimised for gaming. Why didn’t microsoft do that??! damn what a missed opportunity…
i really really want one this holiday season but man the battery life for both is telling me to wait a few more months.
No need to wait. Battery tech is always behind. Just look at the short battery time on premium phones.
More power drains battery more.
You have a new subscriber mate. Great review!
Such a quality video, the best review of the legion go I've seen 👏🏻
Thanks a bunch! More vids to come that you'll hopefully enjoy just as much :)
This was a great overview.
I'm shocked the Go doesn't have Freesync/VRR, but... Whatever, I guess.
first video of yours that i see and its awesome! your sense of humor like at 9:39 literally made me laugh out loud lool 😂
all your edits are great and the content is solid! you earned a new sub my dude. Hope to see more vids from you
This was a great video. I have both as well and make videos about them and like you I don't want to make a "vs" thing between them but I do end up picking up the ally more
What live wallpaper are you using? It looks neat!
Also, what’s the wallpaper on the LGo, looks sick!
in norway the prices are 100% identical on both, i wish i waited i want the Legion go due to fps mode. its finicky but it solves so many problems i have with handheld not wanting to drag around extra gear and so on. i might actually sell my ally and go legion.
came for the legion review, stayed for this dope homescreen. Ever thought about a tutorial for those? :P
Lol thanks, I'm thinking of a "what's on my handheld?" kinda video where I can talk about that, but until then you can just download Wallpaper Engine from Steam and Rainmeter from their page and do some research. Pretty easy when you get into it, cheers! :)
I have the lcd sd and is amazing but I’m looking to get the legion go it’s the Awsome handheld to play every game on it
New subscriber! I feel like this channel should have way more subscribers and views. This was a great video.
Thank you kindly! We’ll get there one day :)
Just play the ROG Ally at 720p when your mobile and the battery is way better. And then it charges twice as fast as Steam Deck.
(Granted their support is really good but still don't want the hassle)
While i have had 4 or 5 Lenovo computers and have never had an issue with any of them.
Thank you! I definitely want to upload a video I feel like I did my very best on. I did not have a channel before this, so also the time between videos is me still learning editing and how to even write/shoot videos like these. I do watch a ton of RUclips tho, so maybe using a copycat jutsu of sorts. Either way, thanks a bunch 🫶
I’d say go with your heart on this one, a gaming handheld and a VR headset have very different use cases. I don’t have a headset myself, but I’ve used them and can see why it’s a hard choice.
At the end of the day, I hope the video at least helped inform your decision, and that you’re happy with whatever the device you get is 🫰🏻
Whats your background on the Legion Go?
Wallpaper Engine (Abstract Waves) and Rainmeter
I've heard a lot of the complaints with the UI, etc. have been addressed over the last two months. Any updates?
you could compare it to the kun xD since they are similar it has superior battery *it can last like 3-4h on demanding games*, useful trackpads *they are firmware aka they work even in recovery mode*, 2280ssd and more ram however its not all good ayaneo is known to have hit or miss with qc and getting things fixed if it brakes … and the price is steep 1300$ for best priced model of the kun 👀 it can be a desktop replacement imo so it's worth the price
The main thing that annoys me about it is you have to connect the controllers to turn them on (before you can use them wirelessly)
Love your reviews!
Great video!
Thank you!
Great video my freind im getting the legion handheld
New subscriber and great review! Will you be doing a review on the Steam deck OLED?
Welcome aboard, and thank you! 🙏 Since you asked, I do have an OLED unit coming in. However, I have a slightly different kind of video planned for that. Going to take some time since I’ll have to test and all, but getting that one out for the holiday season :)
Dude, may I ask which software you use to emulate the Switch game. Thank you.
Someone didn't watch the video
What desktock app you use? looks cool.
Thanks, I’m using rainmeter for all of my widgets and wallpaper engine for the moving wallpaper. Can’t exactly remember which widgets these are but you can find them on the Reddit
Just to be clear, are you comparing go to the ally or ally extreme?
Z1 Extreme, good question
At this point, handheld pc's are like infinity stones and I'm Thanos. Lol
On my LLG, when I take the controllers off it notifies you when they are connected or disconnected. Maybe a software update 🤷🏽♂️
Sticking with the rog ally 💯
The issue with emulation is that on 18:55 you have os power mode to efficient. Man, emulation is more cpu than gpu expensive. You should be running it on lower thermal profile, but with highest os power mode/cpu clocks
26:40 well damn thats cool, and I've become your 777th subscriber
Thank you !!!! Just the facts
999th subscriber. I wish I was 1000th!
Good review man
How did you install Zelda game on Lenovo legion go
Amazing video thankyou for making this!
@@JosephStillGames thankyou! This is really helpful dude! And again keep at it!
0:06 Da faque is that prototype?
I apologize if this has already been brought up but on all of these handhelds unfortunately we have to wait for drivers to be shot out by the manufacturer instead of AMD
No need to apologize! Since this video has gone up, a fair amount of updates have come out that improve performance on this device greatly. Still more room for growth as these find their full potential
How many cats do you have? I think I saw 3 during the video🤔
So we just aren’t taking into account the bad SD problems the Ally has? Definitely not more reliable than the Steam Deck or the Legion Go
The legion go has potential, but I can see the legion go 2 launching either late 2024, or early 2025 and the go 1 will be left in the dust and it's potential will never really be explored. Maybe by some hobby enthusiasts
I'm getting the tape. 🤔
I picked the GPD win 4
God honestly that’s the other one I have my eyes on, let me know what you think!
@@JosephStillGames I think it's the best and it has a nice keyboard and it's powerful. It's my main PC.
My Legion Go's right controller didn't fit correctly out of the box. It flexes back and forth, compared to a sturdy left one. It's loud as fuck, and the ergonomics for my hands are terrible. I really wanted to love it but it feels like an engineering sample hat accidentally made it to production.
Yea I'm subbing
This feels like an ROG ally review with a slight mention of the legion go
Video would look nice if you removed the rainbow on the sides but besides great video
Spankin vid 👌
You just know lenovo will have the lightning quick pace of a dead snail 🐌 when it comes to really mkdding this thing. I can see the community making their own software as soon as they get the keys 😏
Great video thnx 🎉
How do you get Mario wonder to run mine won't see it on the yuzu emulator
I’ll be honest I just never had any issues with it. Ig try using opengl instead of vulkan? That’s all i got
@@JosephStillGames thanks brother maybe it's where I got the rom from I'll try another location also super Mario bros 3d or something doesn't work crashed after the intro so sad
Hi what do I need to be able to play sonic frontiers on leveno Legion go
I'm sorry to say I have not played Sonic Frontiers, but am seeing there's a weird compatibility issue happening with that game. Could be fixed in a later Legion update, but I'm not sure
I’m a bus driver so I have a lot of a downtime and legion go is Nices to have coming from the switch
@JosephStillGames Can you please share which wallpaper are you using? Thanks!!
If you look up “waves” on wallpaper engine, it should be one of those. Sorry I’m not sure of the exact name
Thank you so much.
