I used to have a neighbor from Jamaica who was like this, just magic when it came to babies. My little brother got frequent ear infections as a baby, and he’d scream for _hours_ all day long. My mom was so sleep deprived that she would fall asleep standing up. But whenever Miss B from next door heard him screaming she’d come over and all she had to do was hold him, and he’d immediately stop crying. It was crazy. Like she had magical powers over babies.

@@achanwahnThat's so true. I always tried to stay calm and relaxed when my son was born with Kiss Syndrome. He had so much pain the poor sweetheart, which was actually completely unnecessary, but the maternity woman decided that she had to put her hands inside me (??!!!!!) to pull my son out on his quiet big head. He was a big baby (5 kilograms) but the pulling she did almost choked him and than he got stuck with his shoulders and afterwards with his crossed legs!!!!
She destroyed my son to have a miserable babytime and my "hoohah" 😢 for any pregnancy after that. I was lucky enough to get another baby girl (I had one 4 years before my son) and afterwards I was told not to be pregnant 💔 again. To dangerous!

As a retired teacher, when I fly, I carry a soft hand puppet, an Old Maid's deck of cards, a sensory/tactile baby book, a few photocopied coloring pages and an 8 pack of crayons, small puzzles, a doll and an outfit. Dollar Tree stuff. All are in original wrappings and age appropriate to a variety of developmental stages. I give the item to the adult traveling with the child. The novelty of the stuff preoccupies the child and its worth the cost of the items ($20 or so) to have a peaceful flight.

She probably tried everything else that usually works .
I don't think she would have done it even if she thought there might be a chance for it to work..because people don't feel comfortable being the center of attention with hundreds of people around especially with a screaming baby frustrating everybody..
As for the babies their ears often if not always get plugged up at high altitude as the pressure on the plane is equalized , right? , and I'm sure it freaks kids out . Screaming for a little while helps , as the jaw muscles help unplug them .. though they may still continue crying out of frustration.
The flight attendant was the perfect person for that situation , IMO.

@@Austin.Kilgore It's hard to explain, knowing looks were exchanged. Mine embarrassed and apologetic, hers understanding. I would never have asked her to do that and would have resisted her verbal offer to help and my guess is that she knew it. She had a way about her, a kindness, a confidence, she got down on my daughters level and she calmed immediately. That's when she just gently took charge, she scooped her up and said let me just show this little sweetie around and we did not object. There was a large water feature in the center of the dining room with lights and plants that she slowly worked her way around pointing out all of the items of interest. It was very sweet and she was absolutely professional and again never out of sight. Honestly I think that while it was a kindness for us, it was at least as much for the other guests and even the resturant in that her actions absolutely helped maintain the ambiance. This was 36 years ago and the first and only time I have seen or even heard of this kind of service. We live in a different world but that's not to say it couldn't still happen today if all parties were willing to sign a 10 page legal document. lol...ish

Me too Rebecca! I work at a grocery store in one of my absolute favorite parts of my day when I get a chance it's going over to talk to a baby 🤣 if they're crying and I can make them stop, BONUS HAPPY POINTS!

@@rs-mt6kl you're MY kinda girl/ guy! (Sorry, can't tell by your handle). Even when a kid is being kinda naughty, I'll get eye contact and say something quietly.... then they stop. My kids are adults now, and I miss lil ones. So interacting is a treasure for me.
      YOU KEEP ON!!

I visited my parents back in the states with my 8 month old back in the 80’s. We were stationed in Germany, and she was/ is my parents’ oldest grandchild. I made sure she was drinking her bottle on takeoff and landing to ease the ear pressure and ward of earaches. She slept, played games with me, and did very well on the flight. I was so relieved when we got to our destination; I wasn’t even thinking that others might have an issue being seated next to us. However, when we landed in NY, a couple took the time to compliment me on how well behaved she was, and how they wouldn’t have known there was a baby next to them if they had not seen her. I was definitely blessed, and today she is a fine young woman who still makes me proud. ❤

That was sweet of her! This is how people should respond! I've seen people get so mad and start yelling when a baby is crying on the plane. Have some compassion and understanding because as a mom I can tell you that the parents don't want their baby to be screaming and disturbing others! It's really stressful for parents in this situation! So instead of having a meltdown bigger than the baby, how about offering a helping hand?! It wouldn't hurt to show a little kindness! Find a positive solution instead of a negative solution!

We had a flight attendant take my daughter at the beginning of our flight when she started getting fussy. We didnt see her again til the end of the flight, but we could hear her giggles. We were so thankful to her.

Flight attendants are sometimes angels in disguise!!!❤❤❤❤

Some people are "angels on earth". They see a need and step in to save the day. Many years ago when my daughter was born, there was a nurse at the nursery who could literally walk in the door and speak to the newborns and settle the room. She would walk down the aisle and pat each little precious baby, before choosing one to rock. She always brought tranquility to the nursery and it was amazing to watch her.

Why does she deserve a raise? It isn’t in her job description and nobody asked her to do it 😂🤦🏽‍♀️

You don’t get raises for doing things that aren’t in your job descriptions, the company doesn’t need her to do it.

In other airlines, this crew would be signing a warning letter, it’s against the safety and security code to take other passengers’ babies.
Imagine if the crew falls while holding the baby, then it’s the airline to blame

My 8 month old just went on his first plane ride, i wasn't nervous how he would be rather, everyone else on the plane and how they would react if he was crying. It's super uncomfortable being in a plane with a bunch of people who are already dreading a plane ride with a baby. Thankfully he was great and the pilot gave him a pair of metal wings for his first airpline ride, which almost made me cry!

My son was 4 months and this same situation happened. My baby ended up greeting everyone on the plane with the stewardess and it was just precious. Traveling for the first time as a single mom it was rough but very thankful for the kind attendants and I got a crash course in traveling with a baby!

As a mother, I can empathize and relate to any mother who has ever been on a plane ride with their child for the first time. It’s definitely difficult when your little one starts to cry. All you want is for someone to show you an ounce of kindness and understanding like this beautiful flight attendant. She literally saved the day!
