considering the amount of HEV suit users who have been to XEN with the HEV helmet and those that haven't I can conclude there is a flaw in that HEV helmet. there's no reason Gordon, Barney and Adrian survived in XEN without a HEV helmet.

I like Gordon's human like movements and realism, and the NPC's lack of movement and emotion. Really separates the important character from the side character.
I like this character of Gordon, really believable. Granted I would never accept it if Valve had him speak, but since Gordon is vessel for the fans, this is so perfect because its a fan's interpretation of how Gordon would sound.

I would love to have him talk, although on the other hand I would absolutely hate If they wrote his dialogue in a lazy way that's for sure.

Well deep inside of Black Mesa, there already knew aliens and were doing experients on them, so probably they used teleporter before, but were covering this fact from other scientists in BM
Well they do have helmets, dead scientists that have dawned the suit in Zen are wearing them, maybe the helmet is inside the hidden butt cheek compartment of the suit.
The Tie Scientist in Black Mesa (the remake not the place in the game) says that the Mark 3’s helmet was not optional, and that it was also not ventilated, but still, it means that the mark 3 is better
You should add a "one week later" black screen with cartoon music followed by Gordon finding one of those dead scientists in Xen that have HEV suits on... with helmets.
Other HEV suits have helmets, as seen in Xen, with dead scientists. Gordon's doesn't, they probably tried to cut the cost with experiments being "safer" in that area of Gordon's work.
