Robin’s solo music-this era especially, was full of pathos and vulnerability, and he wasn’t afraid to let it out. Here are a couple of songs I would recommend that are in the same vein as this: Odessa and Black Diamond, both from the Odessa album.
This was the beginning of Robin's solo career that only got better with every project he put out. Mo did help Robin on many of his solo projects with singing back up or writing and producing. They were quite a force to reckon with when they got together. I don't think Barry was ready for that once they grew up and had minds of their own.

This was a #2 hit but there were rumors of all sorts of skullduggery around the subsequent singles from this album where radio stations were paid not to play them. Robin did not get any support from any corner of his family for his efforts and said he was made to feel he was a black sheep. @@dawndeleon3765 - My comment was according to a couple of bios I read. I agree that Molly should have supported her HUSBAND. Molly found Robin's backbone. I suspect that tension was one factor that eventually contributed to the breakup of their marriage. Molly wouldn't tour with them. I wouldn't tour with people who disliked me either. @@susieq9801 There's that short interview with Molly and Robin from this period and apparently Ma and Pa Gibb insinuated that they had not been allowed to see Robin since the split. Molly called b.s. on that and said they'd been to her and Robin's home and "been made welcome." I think it's true everyone wanted him back in the band but perhaps a better approach might have been to make Robin feel valued a little more highly than to ostracize him and his wife from the family circle. Looking back at that interview at my present age it's hard not to sympathize with these two very young people putting on a brave face for what must have been a very tough situation.
Don't get me wrong, but unfortunately this song has never really captivated me, not in the past and not now. I don't know any reason for that. But of course, Robin's voice is as beautiful and unique as ever. He remains my favorite singer.
This was a bittersweet hit for Robin. The Bee Gees manager, Robert Stigwood, tried to sue Robin since he broke the contract after temporarily departing the Bee Gees in March 1969. This song went to Number 2 in the U.K. but additionally Robin's own father, Hugh, tried to make him ward of the court. Several months before the split up all the way to when they reunited and reconciled was a rough period for all the brothers at a personal level. On the Bee Gees album 'Odessa', Barry and Robin reportedly wouldn't record their own vocals at the same time. Barry remained pissed off at Robin, but Maurice and Robin seemed to get back on speaking terms quickly, as Maurice did a little bit of work on the album Saved By The Bell appeared on. Barry wasn't happy when he heard about it, and seemingly until Robin's death, he never let go the grudge of the 1969 split up, even stating in 2007 that the bad feelings never left him and he'd be content working alone.
But Barry always was a teamplayer! Maybe, as the older brother which took his siblings up to fame, he couldn't deal with the split, forced from Robin. Next big shock to him was the fact, that Robin claimed to have written the next single for his brothers, 'Bury Me Down By The River', out of the album 'Cucumber Castle', true original written by Barry and Maurice. Was a fake, but to read in many newspapers and magazines as also in Germany's 'Bravo'. Teethgnashing, they've chosen 'Don't Forget To Remember Me' as single, so the other song was burned out, because of Robin's interview. He must have heard about his brothers plan in family-circles. Good thing is, Robin was the one which made the initial-telephone-call to reunite together as Bee Gees.

@@nickjames3049 I heard about those ones too. It's maddening is what it is. The brothers have always hated the tabloids. Even Maurice said in 1993 that people always want to hear about the bad and not the good
I do believe that Barry always held a grudge over the 1969 split, but Barry stating in 2007 that he'd be content working alone, well, that's just sad!! Now he is alone!!
Robin on his own carousel, alone! But he heard the bell ringing, saying go back to where you came from! Good decision, he made. The whole album only lived because of his unique voice. Yes, I so much love him singing. Beside any private family orientated problems, which shouldn't play the first role, istening to the albums 'Robins Reign' and 'Cucumber Castle' from his brothers, can bring in clearness. Musically, Robins album isn't on top and he used too much simple lyrics. And the Cucumber-album would have been better with Robin onboard, so the sharing of leads between him and Barry and also their trademark, the unbeatable three-part-harmonies, were missed. It is what it is and always will be, the real magic is only the three of them!
As others mentioned, the lyric IS "Heartbreak Lane". A lovely melancholic song, Robin's forte. Been waiting for this one. Thanks! 😁 This song was very successful but, according to their bio, certain powers apparently approached DJ's not to play his solo work, suspect trying to coerce him back into the band. One DJ, Alan Freeman, an Australian working in the UK, refused not to play it and in his last album, 50 St Catherine's Drive, Robin wrote a song dedicated to Alan and also, as President of the Heritage Society, had a plaque placed on his residence!. When he went solo Hugh Gibb said "I hope Robin falls flat on his face" and tried to have him declared unstable and a ward of the state!!! 😧 Not nice.
Yup Dad Hugh claimed Robin was financially irresponsible. Yet Mo bought 7 Rolls-Royce and 2 Aston Martins?! When they "couldn't sell a record" as Barry put in 71 to 73 or so, Rob was the one who still had lots of his $ left that he'd saved. The move was totally a sham to stop the breakup of the band by their Dad. Because frankly, the Bee Gees were their parents' meal ticket too.
Agree, as always, my Robin girls! What you both said is just the God's honest truth. It wasn't just the "First of May"/ "Lamplight" issue. That was just the straw that broke the camel's back in my opinion. It went so much deeper than that. I remember reading that Hugh didn't want Robin singing leads at all. That honor was reserved for big brother Barry only. So, I guess if I were Robin with that oh so beautiful voice of his, I'd be angry, too, and want to leave and step out on my own. Thank God they made up with each other and gave us all the beautiful music they did!
I never did understand how Hugh took great delight in putting Robin’s voice down. Even before they left Australia he criticised what became his musical signature , the vibrato. I often wonder if his nose was put out of joint as Robin’s voice matured and became serious competition for Barry rather than just the treble accompaniment it had previously been. It seems to me that poor Robin never really had his father’s support throughout his life. Is it any wonder he became more and more withdrawn and awkward? He wasn’t as a child! However he grew a very strong backbone and did his own thing whatever anyone else thought. He was a tough little cookie. As you indicated, Maurice got away with doing what he liked although I don’t think his relationship with Hugh was particularly brilliant. There was also a lot about Mo that was in complete contrast to his popular persona. ( still gorgeous though) 😀 The twins seemed to never match up to Barry’s favour with their dad nor to Andy. There is so much that they have all rightly kept to themselves about their childhood. However they put family first and there was obviously deep love there so the parents did something right.
Isabella, I totally agree with you. Both Robin and Mo had a mind (an a spine) of their own. Neither of the twins ever let anyone push them around, especially big brother Barry and their father.. And I'm just really happy they stood up to everyone who tried to change them since I love them both just the way they were. ❤
@@lauriebarnes2999 they were certainly characters, very different , forever entwined emotionally with each other but amazing individually. Barbara must have absolutely adored them. What a wonderful treat to be given twins anyway but for them to become what they did, she must have been over the moon.

I’m writing this while listening. It sounds similar to another song to me. While it was pretty, I thought the lyrics were very simplistic in a Dr. Suess kind of way of rhyming and it was very, very short. Not for me this time.
I've always had mixed feelings about this song. I think it's a good melody and has a great chorus, BUT the primitive drum machine sounds so amateurish, and Robin's vocals were terribly recorded. I think if this was recorded by the group with better production, especially when they formed the core band in '74, it would have sounded much better.
Robin’s voice is as deep as the ocean. 😮 wow! NOONE compares.

This song is lovley listened to it with my eyes Shuts takes me to a different place. X going to watch it now lol
Thanks! 😁
This song was very successful but, according to their bio, certain powers apparently approached DJ's not to play his solo work, suspect trying to coerce him back into the band.
A wonderful song but not one of my top favorites of Robin’s songs. Still I like listening to it every once in awhile.
Finally
Also, I think the lyric was wrong at the end of the chorus. I think it's "Now I walk Down Heartbreak Lane"
This song got no 2 in the chart apart from Barry 's'The first of May'.--same got no 2 . Besides this was the song after Robin left the band in 1967..😢😢😢
Hi Chad! I hope you and your daughter are doing well!! Wasn't Robin the best! Love from Canada! 💜
Hey fellow 🇨🇦😉
❤️
Ugh, why do people send you links like this when you can have the real one. Yes the lines are annoying but grateful to be able to see Robin actually singing it, and in the day. ruclips.net/video/6Qahm4RKrSY/видео.html&start_radio=1
Also, it's "heartbreak lane," not "our great lane."
Encontrei ❤
I’m writing this while listening. It sounds similar to another song to me. While it was pretty, I thought the lyrics were very simplistic in a Dr. Suess kind of way of rhyming and it was very, very short. Not for me this time.
chad you did a lot of songs from the IDEA album but you missing one GEM in that album , a song called SWAN SONG , lead vocal BARRY GIBB
KILBURN TOWERS also missed
chad the lyric is wrong it supposed to say now i walked down heart break lane
🤛👊🤜

I've always had mixed feelings about this song. I think it's a good melody and has a great chorus, BUT the primitive drum machine sounds so amateurish, and Robin's vocals were terribly recorded. I think if this was recorded by the group with better production, especially when they formed the core band in '74, it would have sounded much better.
Robin pretty much produced this on his own on a shoe string budget. Drum machines were in their infancy in the 60's.
