Robin is my favorite of the Gibb brothers. Robin's voice was so unique to my ears. His has a different quality than the others despite the high vocals they all could hit. Robin's just hit me as more emotional, wistful.
One of the truly mesmerizing vocalists in rock history. He had a sensual and ethereal quality to his voice. I can't think of anyone alive today who could match those qualities.
Correct and I am glad I lived during their lifetime. One in a million. So glad that people are giving them props now and I wish they had received more when they were all together.
Robins voice was incredible. His voice as a 16-17 year old kid was magnificent. He could go from a low, rich, baritone vibrato to delicate, soaring high tenor (maybe even countertenor.) Just listen to the song “ I started a Joke”. Listen to the best quality recording with headphones. It’s an incredible performance- and he was 18. Unfortunately, his style went out of fashion and he wasn’t featured. But he also did the falsetto and quite well. The song “Love Me” is an example of a song where his falsetto is prominent at the end. I guess he was negatively affected by the falsetto criticisms and shied away from the falsetto, although his early 80s techno solo work featured his falsetto. He doesn’t get enough credit for one of the most amazing and talented voices of Pop/Rock of the late 20th century. With the right song, his voice was incomparably beautiful. It was often underutilized within the confines of The Bee Gees in their last 20-25 years.
Mike, your comment is just beautiful and so true. He was such an amazing man whose voice was quite underutilized from the mid 70's and beyond. He has a beautiful delicate tone. Some others have mentioned his faster (almost quavery) vibrato, which while really accurate gives that feeling of vulnerability and emotion. Just a lovely lovely voice.
It's really hard for me not crying when listening to Robin Gibb's extremely sensitive voice. Magical! I sang this song myself from the age of 15, i.e. back in 68.

Robin had that emotion in his voice that made his voice pitch perfect. Not many singers can convey the message in a song like the Bee Gees. Thank you for emphasising the harmonies of the brothers.
Robin had the most beautiful vibrato of anyone. His voice was mesmerizing, but so natural to him. I think he preferred placing his hand at his ear to hear himself, as I’ve seen him do it in other videos. I really appreciate that you visited him. Thanks Fil.
@@joycheek6756 no he didn't! Yes to the Hither Green train derailment in November 67 but he never suffered hearing loss. He covered his ear to hear himself overr the band. They didn't have the modern in ear pieces that came later on.
You are so right Fil, Robin's vibrato is so unique and controlled and not only difficult to copy but impossible. As you said, how to copy something that comes purely natural, and this applies to the three (four) brothers. Robin was someday asked why he never took classes to modulate his voice, and he said if he had took classes then it wouldn't be his own voice. Thank you for this great analysis!!!
He told a funny story about once meeting a stranger (on a plane I think) who he could tell recognized him but only after a while spoke to him just to say "I always thought you could have had a lovely voice. It's too bad you never learned to sing."
Robin Gibb had a voice like no other. It tugged at my heart and soul..so beautiful. i listen to it when i go for walks in the park. Thank you for sharing this take on it.
I love Robin and his beautiful singing. He is so amazing. My granddaughter is 6 and she loves him too. Of course, she has to sing with blue lense sunglasses. 😹😹😹😹 Rest In Peace, Rob. You are truly loved and missed. ❤️🌹❤️
Double awesome analyses! When I first listened to Robin’s solo “Holiday” in 1967, it was so simple, lyrically, but his unusual on-pitch voice stayed with me throughout the years. Thank you, Fil, for bringing us the confirmation that Robin’s voice really was truly a great voice.
Obsessed with Robin’s voice, this video highlights how wonderful it is. He was a one off! Thanks so much Fil for assessing this one….another fab estimation👏👏
Robins voice on the track For whom the bell tolls.... omg it sends shivers down my spine. Its not the Bee Gees til Robin starts to sing. The 3 part harmony. Nothing can top it. Fil, thanks for doing this. I love your analysis videos.
Robin used to cover his ear with just his hand. I always wondered why? Then I started to watch your channel and I learned why. I love Robins voice. I was so shocked to hear of his passing. Rest in Peace Robin. Thank you Fil for covering Robin. Stay safe and Take care.
Thank you for an analysis of Robin. The emphasis is almost always on Barry. I hope will do one of Maurice in the future too. This was a great choice of song. 💖
All that and freaking live! 🤩 Couldn’t agree more, Fil…He’s just singing. Nothing extra, just freaking naturally great. This song always moved me to tears when I was young. I could hear his emotions so clearly.
I love Robin's singing. He kills it the song 'Alone' when he and Maurice chime in at the chorus after Barry's first verse. Thanks Fil, I'm just a guy who sings songs in my spare room alone and love your stuff. Lately Bee Gees are my thing after rewatching their One Night Only concert. And not afraid to go the falsetto.....Too Much Heaven is a classic.
We were so blessed in the 60s with so many unique singers. Robin’s voice cuts to the very soul, he was totally original and this song, more than any other of his, cuts at my heart strings. What’s it about? You can put your own interpretation on it - Robin himself said he didn’t have a clue! Great video, Fil
I enjoyed this so much, thank you. Some people refer to Robin's voice as the crying voice because the emotion is so authentic and raw. He's also extremely capable of making the listener cry (he's been making me cry for decades) because that voice goes straight to the heart. So unique and so beautiful....and I think if my heart could sing it would sound like Robin Gibb. Thanks again for doing this.
Yes, it's so evident how loved this band was and still is. If only we had more time with all three together. FIL does such a good job and he too has a good voice. It's much appreciated.
Robin’s quavering voice made him stand out from his brothers yet it harmonizes well when they sing together . Such prolific songwriters with a massive collection of songs from disco to country. Impressive indeed
This song laid perfect for his voice. The vulnerability in his voice is a huge part of his appeal. And you are so right, his emotion naturally comes out in his delivery. I think because Barry sang in falsetto so much during the late 70's, people assume Robin was doing the same at the same notes. His voice is naturally higher and he was often using head voice. You made such a good point that the richness in Barry and Robin singing together, whether in harmony or unison, was the melding of their different vocal characteristics.
Robin is, in my opinion, the best voice in the group. He just had such a sweet soul, and you can feel it when he sings. He’ll always be my favorite Bee Gee. Thank you for sharing this..I love watching you smile all the through your videos because of the joy Robin brings you. All of us, actually.
Such a heart wrenching and spot-on performance ~ will never be another group with the talent of the Bee Gees ~ brilliant vocalists, writers and musicians. They were the complete package with raw talent from the time they were tiny children
I always loved his voice more than the others. As you say such a vulnerable tone to it. Beautiful. But they were all phenomenal. They lived for a time very near to me, before moving to Australia, but I never knew them.
I've seen the Bee Gee's song For Whom The Bell Tolls going around on RUclips and Robin is front and center on most of the song. Great voice....all of them,
Funny to realize that actually Robin Never sings lead on this song! Nope, he's ONLY on Chorus!😉 But when Robin voice comes surging in it totally takes over the whole song.😎 That's the power and sublime beauty of Robins vocal talent!!😍
I was one of the ppl who requested Robin. This gig was in my town of Melbourne Australia. Thank you for giving his unique and wonderful voice the attention, analysis and respect it deserves 👏
My most Loved Robin song since it first came out. I was a teen at the time. It's just a beautiful song the way Robin sang it. I get emotional. Thanks for breaking it down.
Fabulous episode. Robin has always been my favorite Beegees and “I started a Joke” my favorite song. I cry EVERY time I hear his unique voice. Your analysis has enriched my listening experience. Many thanks.
I love Robin and the Bee Gees, their sound was/still is unique but different. This song is beautiful but sad, you can hear the emotions in Robin's voice. It brings a tear to my eye as a lot of their songs do. Thanks for another beautiful analysis.
One of my favorite voices of all time. Always frustrating when I would mention this and folks would assume I was talking about his older brother and they would cringe showing judgement about the falsetto sound. No, I would say, not that brother. Then I would mention this song and Massachusetts for them to listen to. Great video, Fil. Thanks.
His older brother (& the 3 together) sounded excellent on all their studio material….& often live!! Others shouldn’t be so quick to judge by cringing…..& it’s how falsetto is sung. 🎼 Without those voices they wouldn’t have lasted as long as they did🤩!
These guys were so talented. Particularly Robin, in my not-so-humble opinion. Always my favorite. Hard to choose a favorite from those guys because they all were just…perfect. You can do all The Bee Gees analysis videos you like. It’s perfectly fine by me!
Spot on with everything you said here about Robin's voice and the rest of the Bee-Gees back ground vocals. Robin has always been my favorite of the Bee-Gees. (Just being honest here) Great reaction to him and the rest of them!!
Fil, I love watching your reaction to Robin's beautiful performance here. I agree that the blend of falsetto and head voice in the Bee Gees harmonies gives their combined voice a wonderfully full texture. All three sang with great vulnerability, not just in the way they used their voices, not only in the emotion invested into the performance but in the lyrics of the songs themselves. In that sense there was nothing "cool" about them. For me it was this as well as their vocal skill which won my respect during the period of the swing against disco. Am so glad the Bee Gees survived and transcended that, going on long enough to become respected as widely as they are for the legends they were. As a young guy I could never get why audiences, girl in particular, responded so strongly to Robin's songs and performances. You have gone some way to explaining it to the older me! I love how you break this down, Fil. Thank you. You make me appreciate Robin all the more.
This was the most elegant analysis! From the first note my scalp prickled and tears filled my eyes and I depended on you to engage my thinking brain so I wouldn't just burst into tears. You did. Awesome.
I believe when people asked him how he uses his voice, his response was something like 'I don't sing with my voice, I sing with my heart'
🥰💖
That he did sing from his heart & started singing since age 5 whatever it is they were amazing Always loved the BeeGees ☮️

Yes, when is he going to post his own video of HIM singing!
Here's some of Robin Gibb that lots of folks have never heard -- ELLAN VANNIN (with King William's College choir).
Exquisite!!
His falsetto can sounds do feminine you think it was a woman singing.
Thanks Fil.
Yes, I so agree!!
@@dianemiller8969 + TN Laura,
DITTO!
He was in a train wreck in the late 60s with Molly his first wife and suffered some hearing damage
@@joycheek6756 no he didn't! Yes to the Hither Green train derailment in November 67 but he never suffered hearing loss. He covered his ear to hear himself overr the band. They didn't have the modern in ear pieces that came later on.
@@joycheek6756 You would think, that Fil would know that and tell us!?
You are so right Fil, Robin's vibrato is so unique and controlled and not only difficult to copy but impossible. As you said, how to copy something that comes purely natural, and this applies to the three (four) brothers. Robin was someday asked why he never took classes to modulate his voice, and he said if he had took classes then it wouldn't be his own voice.
Thank you for this great analysis!!!
Thank u! Today with autotune etc, it's just wonderful to hear remarkable natural voice/voices!
WOW! He nailed virtually every note! To me, that's like magic. Did Robin have Perfect Pitch?
If that voice doesn’t move you then you must be dead!! Genius. Most beautiful pure voice I’ve ever heard. Miss him so very much ❤
Obsessed with Robin’s voice, this video highlights how wonderful it is.
Robin was such a beautiful musician. His harmonies really are seckond to none.
Robin used to cover his ear with just his hand. I always wondered why? Then I started to watch your channel and I learned why. I love Robins voice. I was so shocked to hear of his passing. Rest in Peace Robin. Thank you Fil for covering Robin. Stay safe and Take care.
I'm so sad just thinking about him right now.
It helped tighten up the pitch; you hear your voice better.
Fil...Your song choices are phenomenal.... I am TOTALLY blown away how "Spot On" his pitch is, WOW!!!!
Thanks Fil... Cheers
Thank you for an analysis of Robin. The emphasis is almost always on Barry. I hope will do one of Maurice in the future too. This was a great choice of song. 💖
Hello Dianne how are you doing today
All that and freaking live! 🤩 Couldn’t agree more, Fil…He’s just singing. Nothing extra, just freaking naturally great. This song always moved me to tears when I was young. I could hear his emotions so clearly.
Hello Julia how are you doing
I would say Robin Gibb had total command of his fine motor skills.
So good. I love his voice in For Whom The Bell Tolls as well
Oh,Hey! FIL
My favorite singer,Robin Gibb.💗💖💓 SWEET ROBIN 💞
Thank you so much ❣️ Fil
Thanks for analyzing Robin’s wonderful voice. All of the Gibb brothers were musical geniuses and Robin’s voice was the best…
The lightness of his voice perfectly fits the song. If he belted the whole thing it's a very different emotion projected
I've always loved Robin's voice but never realised how accurate he was.
Lots of typical Robin vocals, very accurate and controlled, on their last album, This is Where I Came In. A unique voice. Great analysis.
I’ve heard him sing this song many times but this was perhaps the greatest ! Just perfection !
I loved Robin’s vocal performance on Massachusetts. It’s wonderful.
Oh yes!
I always loved his voice more than the others. As you say such a vulnerable tone to it. Beautiful. But they were all phenomenal. They lived for a time very near to me, before moving to Australia, but I never knew them.
Hello Christine how are you doing
I've seen the Bee Gee's song For Whom The Bell Tolls going around on RUclips and Robin is front and center on most of the song. Great voice....all of them,
Funny to realize that actually Robin Never sings lead on this song! Nope, he's ONLY on Chorus!😉
But when Robin voice comes surging in it totally takes over the whole song.😎 That's the power and sublime beauty of Robins vocal talent!!😍
Thank You FIL, every time I hear Robin's voice, it brings tears to my eyes. I miss his magical sound!!
😢
I love Robin Gibb and his phenomenal voice. Always have always will. Love this analysis.
Me, too, Roberta, me, too!
Me three. There's a reason nobody ever tried to imitate his voice, unlike Barry's falsetto. And that's because nobody can.
So right, J1, so very right!
@@lauriebarnes2999 - Me 4.
@@Zlata1313 100% Right !! No one else could sound like out Songbird Robin. He was a 1 of a kind.I will always love Robin Gibb
Hello Debi585 how are you doing
One of Robin's best performances is "Dearest" from Trafalgar... he just rips your heart out with that song.
These guys were so talented. Particularly Robin, in my not-so-humble opinion. Always my favorite. Hard to choose a favorite from those guys because they all were just…perfect. You can do all The Bee Gees analysis videos you like. It’s perfectly fine by me!
Adore not only your passion but your skill & expertise. And you’ve got such a beautiful voice. It’d be nice to hear you sing more.
That is an incredible performance by Robin! His voice is just so meaningful to me in an artistic sense. Very moving!
Thank you. My favorite singer. Haunting voice! Had his own echo. His voice always expressed profound emotion. He said he sang with his heart.
Yes Q, as Mo always said it was the voice that touched your heart.❤
This was the most elegant analysis! From the first note my scalp prickled and tears filled my eyes and I depended on you to engage my thinking brain so I wouldn't just burst into tears. You did. Awesome.
Hello Lynn how are you doing
I ALWAYS loved Robins voice!!!
What I absolutely adore is your genuine smile, which uses your entire face, all the way through your eyes, as you watch and enjoy.
Robin's one of my favourite singers of all time. My favourite performance is his parts in For Whom the Bell Tolls - so good!
