    Small is the future of humanoid robots. Much friendlier form factor when dealing with kids and adults, comes across less threatening psychologically, cheaper to produce, less power consumption, easier to move around when not powered, package more of these when shipping to job sites for large projects. Bots for factories will be larger but for home smaller is much better.

    My "take-away" is that the dexterity and control is a nearly accomplished technology across all manufacturers (Tesla, Boston Dynamics, Figure AI, Unitry, etc.). Thus, no one has such a lead that the others cannot keep pace. So, this means the edge will go the company that can allow users to most easily train the robot in what they want it to do and how well the robot can adapt to the environment they are meant to work in.

    Really? How is GPT-4o in anyway disappointing? It was super exciting in my opinion. And the 'Next big thing' comment just at the end was surely a hint that 'GPT-5' or whatever they decide to call it is not far off either and surely it will be built on top of the same new Omni model architecture too.

    • @spleck615
      @spleck615 26 дней назад +2

      Agreed, I was happy with how refined gpt-4o was and it’s now the free model.. so gpt 3.5 was the free model when gpt-4 was the paid model. GPT-4o is the free model. BUCKLE THE HECK UP! 😂

    • @RPHelpingHand
      @RPHelpingHand 26 дней назад +1

      They were disappointed because the GPT-4O is just a repackaged User Interface for GPT4. Definitely an improvement but it’s not a huge jump in intelligence which is what their expectation was. It’s like being super pumped for a new movie/game, then the actual experience is a let down. The failure was expectations not the tech. Creating a Startrek level interface for an Ai is impressive and clearly the future of how all Ai will be interacted with but it’s not a step forward for a true AGI creation (the brain behind the Startrek Ai voice)

    • @spleck615
      @spleck615 26 дней назад

      @@RPHelpingHand yeah go watch it again. The quality of the intelligence at real time inference speed including cross modal without requiring groq or specialized hardware is quite a nice bump, and again it’s the free model. You see the big jumps in the non-free model. Additionally I’ve seen several reviews already showing significantly improved logic and reasoning. They said right up front in the announcement it wasn’t gpt5. They set expectations properly. No reason to be disappointed unless you had naive expectations.

      It's becoming a little clearer now that this is probably what got Altman fired last year, but in an altered form. Maybe it had seriously pondered it's own existence in a fluke session or something? It's only an input-output system but when asked the question it could seriously ponder it. Even without emotions it can be every aware of certain things.

      If using encoded / multiplexed digital signals, three 360 degree rotating slide contacts should suffice(V+, data, GND). Likely the power for the actuators is AC so that can be transferred through coils integrated in the joints. Ideal for high power transfer with very little loss between coils.
      It can be done with even less slide contacts, if you use an optocoupler for the data and tap the V+ from rectitified AC, then only GND is left. This is preferable because slide contacts when they get dirty can introduce false signals (crackling)

    In the early days of computing, we had value added retailers (VARs). My first employer sold VAX mini computers along with CAD stations and related software. Now, we buy a computer and shop for software at the Google store, but then, we often bought computer, software and peripherals as a package, and we needed a lot of support including custom software development to use the stuff.
    We're in the VAR days with humanoid bots. You'll buy a $16k bot and train it to walk your dog, so you can sell copies of the bot with the training for a premium over the cost of an untrained bot. Maybe you'll tweak the training for each customer. You can also sell your dog walking bot training and related services to people who already own a compatible bot.

    I used USB- tethering between android phones and desktop computers quite a lot, it works well when the desktop runs Linux. Nice solution when the desktop does not have wifi. It should work on Windows too but In all my attempts it just locked up the Windows desktop until USB was unplugged. That was to share the phone internet with the Desktop, but at least USB networking does exist in Android.

    I am a blind person and enjoyed the detail here on AI
    I wonder if that quite cheap robot would be suitable as a seeing eye dog
    I currently use a dog which takes years to train and last about only seven years of working life
    frankly there's too much randomness with dog and human personality etc
    not to mention the grieving because humans outlive the dog
    but a robot might be more reliable and longer lived what do you think?

    California enacted the $20 per hour minimum wage for fast food workers. Various chains have all been raising their prices and letting workers go. If this thing can flip burgers, etc. and has the duty cycle, it's a no brainer to replace people. Of course, the current move to set tariffs at 102.5% for cars will likely expand to the robots.

    • @Emphasis213

      Even at 100 percent tariffs it is still cheap.
      When they allow it to pair with different AI models then it will be even more potent.

    I like this Unitree humanoid robot. And so would children, since it actually looks like a large "doll." Obviously, the robo-mechnical design elements are really beginning to come together. Good balance and graceful motion are very important prerequisites. However, the most important aspects, not demonstrated in this video, would be low-latency verbal interfaces and action planners. Such a robot does not need to "do work" per se. What it really needs to be able to do is to sit down with children and play together: work with puzzles; build with wooden blocks and Tinkertoys, Lincoln Logs, and Legos; manipulate dollhouse furniture, Fisher-Price people and infrastructures; throw balls and frisbies; dress Barbie dolls; tell stories with gestures and emotions and interaction; teach with Montessori sticks and methods; ask questions, use crayons, sing songs; etc. At least have a large repertoire of flexible actions and activities.
    Incidentally, in the social context of school or home companion, etc., children should learn that such robots need to be treated with respect - maybe initially like pets or farm animals, later like other children or other people; not as toys or machines.

      Yes, lawyers are going to use this flaw in humans to be emotional instead of rational and take out lawsuits and sue people for "mistreating" robots in order to get a big settlement. Emotional idiots on the jury will go along. Then we will have to pay robots overtime and give them 3 week vacations. Emotional people and lawyers ruin everything.

      machines.. yes .. i think the point that people are making about hitting them is, yes they are machines, that are soon going to be able to remember, reason, rationalise in much more indepth ways, and be in control of many aspects of our lives .. so may not wanna piss them off !!!

    Guys PLEASE stop talking over each other in a rush to get out a long-winded point. It's very painful trying to follow your conversation when you're both sparring to get a word in at the same time.
    I know it's a common dynamic that happens when both parties have interesting insights and an enthusiasm to present them but please try to control the impulse for our sake!
    I don't mean to be critical - I wouldn't keep coming back if the info was extraneous - but I think Scott just needs to slow his roll just a bit and give a bit of breathing room for John. This is long-form podcasting so time is not an issue so just try and calm down just a tad and give some space to the host to interject.
    Love you guys really but you're both getting a bit too caught up in signaling your knowledge on the subject. Just something to try and keep in mind, but I do appreciate your convos!
