It’s so hard to get just parts for it, on the Shark website UK, for my stratos I’d have to buy whole sections of the vacuum and not parts, I can’t even get 3rd party parts because shark change their designs all the time and frequently so they don’t make them 😢
I absolutely agree it tends to be their business strategy. Occasionally we get aftermarket filters or brush rollers that's the best case scenario. But just as you pointed out they changed the design too often to create that market. Thanks for watching!
This is technically how viruses dodge our immune systems year to year.
To true they are only made not to break down before the guaranteed run out
I ordered one of these because on the surface they seem great, but then I did some deeper research and quickly cancelled my order. After about a week of further deliberation I pulled the trigger on a Miele C1 Turbo. Used it for the first time yesterday and immediately fell in love.
Fantastic choice. Make sure you AVOID third party bags! You invested in a great vacuum, so don’t fuck up your warranty by saving a few bucks on bags. Enjoy!
Glad to hear your story. Thanks for commenting!
NICE! You are awesome for making this video. I just called the warranty department today. I had to do a remote session where I showed the rep the issue with the brush head and only thing they could do was provide 50% off the original price for the brush head. So it came out to be $42. At the moment I'll take it and i'll tear apart the spare i have now. You are correct about the hair going to the sides. I have a ragdoll cat and his hair is the reason I'm in this situation. This is the second vacuum in 3 years... :D
Next time replace it with one of the better options.
@@PerformanceReviews I actually just took it apart and noticed the same issue you mentioned. Thank you for the help, i was able to take out all the hair and lucky it did not break the belt or the plastic. After oiling the bearings everything is working like new again... I guess I'll just have a spare brush head... Thanks for the help!
Bought the ZU60(Walmart version of the ZU62) "Pet" and have had the same thing happen(except I stopped the vac and fixed it before it broke).
Also have a ragdoll. The wispy undercoat got packed into and behind the bearing opposite the belt side and caused it to spin inside the plastic housing. The end of the roller and housing looks different from this and designed as if they were trying to mitigate stuff getting in there but... It all got in there.
After having problems with the Shark Stratos' auto-suction adjustment feature, I discovered your channel and decided to get an LG Cordzero instead of a replacement since the former was still under store warranty.
So far, so good.
These Sharks also only have a 200 hr motor too before the brushes wear down. Those 1970’s and 1980’s vintage Hoovers all had 2000 hr motors. It’s a shame that the brands we grew up with switched to e-waste from China. That’s 100-300 motor hours compared to 2000 hours with replaceable brushes!!
It seems like there is so much waste with Shark, with so many vacuum cleaners ending up in landfills.
Also those old Hoovers, Electroluxes, and Whirlpool vacuum cleaners emit a much better sound. Even new motors that are made in Germany or Italy that spin at higher rpms than vintage vacuums emit a very nice sound too.
I was so close to buying a shark from a popular vacuum battle channel. I’m glad I didn’t follow their advice. Thank you for your input.
Glad I could help!
I have a pug that is really hard to pick up I feel like I’m just blowing or smearing it around.
We have polished concrete and tile floors
Recommendation????
I've seen these die within months, all points made here are things I have experienced repairing these. It's designed to fail, not easy to repair, and meant to be thrown away, been using a Sanitaire Force and a Simplicity 7300, both with Hepa bags, can't complain with them.
I just dumped my shark upright, and after watching a few of your videos decided to spend the extra money on a Miele c3. I did not know how awful the shark was until now. Its like using a socket set from walmart and then upgrading to snap-on 😂
That's amazing to hear glad that you're happier. That's also a great analogy.
On another topic I got my SEBO parquet floor attachment for my beloved D4 free of charge delivered to my front door from Colorado to Florida. Kudos to SEBO. I love SEBO.
I have an old shark navigator actually I've had two of theme in both of these vacuums the power switch fails and you aren't able to turn the vacuum off anymore.
After seeing the wiring inside of a shark I wouldn't use one based on the fact that they're basically a plastic fire hazard waiting to happen in both cases where the switch is failed the wire connecting to the switch was burnt, because the connectors that use are too loose and crappie.
I'd recommend a used Kirby over a shark.
I took apart our failing head, and exact same issue we had with our Shark within 6 months. They did replace the head quickly under warranty, but same issue again within a year. Absolute junk!
Yea it’s good for the fire pit!
Hi. Did you make the video about retro fitting the battery powered wesselwerks electric nozzle with straight suction vacuums? I'm interested to see if the nozzle will work with my miele
Okay now that baking soda thing at the end… that’s doing too much
I am here because we have this vacuum and it stopped sucking dirt. I used to repair vacuums back in the '80s and '90s as part of my job at a janitorial service and supply company, so I thought I could just swap out the belt, clean up the beater bars, and be back in business. Taking the head apart to get to the belts was insane! Clearly not intended to be owner serviceable. Turns out both belts are broken. I think I might just watch your other videos and buy a new vac -- not a Shark.
And again those that cannot accept the truth you speak will be haters. Thank-you for telling it how it is. These machines are such overpriced POS. When you could spend a slight bit more for a Sebo Felix and have a machine you can easily maintain, performs exceptionally, and will last.
Very true! And the Sebo is a well built German made vaccuum! Compared to these cheap piece of crap vaccuums made in China especially shark
So I bought a Shark Vertex under a year ago. Worst decision I have ever made on a vacuum purchase. I clean houses for a living and I truly thought I was getting a great vacuum, I was tricked. The brush just stopped rotating, so I’m guessing g the belt broke or a motor died? The vacuum also won’t turn off occasionally or switches itself on so now I think that it’s haunted😂. I am ready to take it to the dump. Do you have any suggestions for a replacement? I probably spend about at least 3-4 hours a day, 5 days a week using a vacuum, thank you!
This is why I don't trust vacuum wars. He's gotta be getting money from Shark.
Usual shark junk. Good vid. Shame consumers for the most part don’t seem to care
Meanwhile, over on Vacuumwars......Top upright pick is yet again, a Shark. How are you two so far apart on this? FWIW, I took your advice and now own two Sebos. The Felix is heavy as hell but is a great machine.
The reason we're so far apart is we have completely different experiences.
I end up repairing just about everything that has been sold on the market. Then I report back via video.
His channel involves buying brand new machines filming them on a sound stage and giving referral links. It's a profitable business model.
@@PerformanceReviews Would love to see a collab with the two of you some time. We have to stop burying ourselves in plastic. Buying disposable vacuums sure isn't helping the cause. Keep up the good work.
Vacuum Wars doesn't review vacuums for very long. Just a handful of piecemealed, filmed experiments. He is therefore not reviewing in a manner concerned with longevity. He also doesn't get into the nitty gritty or technical specs of things such as motor lifespan, brushroller dependability, bearing durability, etc.
You are exactly right on his contribution to consumer e-waste from the far east. Sharks are made with slave labor as well. I wonder if he is aware. I try to give him the benefit of the doubt, but find his opinions of Sharks and Dysons to be slanted and an unfortunate contribution to the increase of e-waste and unethical labor.
The Stratos gins are the worst brush on a vacuum, and its not close.
The duo clean isn't bad, but the fins are trash.
In 2020 I bought a shark zu782 for $269. Was falling apart after two years. Replaced it with a simplicity jill. Shark was a little quieter and had a bit more power but overall the jill is SO MUCH BETTER.
why all parts guaranteed for 5 years unless you bought it used or refurbed. Owned Sharks for a decade and replace them every 5 years. never had the issues on any of them like described. If you bought them new they will have no issues sending you a replacement power head
Thanks for the honest review. Could you do a video of bagged vacuums of different brands that take the same vacuum bags? Are any Oreck bags interchangeable with any Hoovers? Thanks.
I loved my shark duo clean power until I saw your video… Now I'm sad!!
God this vacuum is trash. I made the mistake of purchasing it for my apartment a year ago. Damn pre-motor filters are just there for show, might as well not have them. I drilled 2 holes in my wall and vacuumed it up, all the dust went straight through the motor. I understand that concrete dust is really fine but I expected some degree of filtering. It looked like I vacuumed a pound of cement.
A great reason to spend a bit more money to get some thing that can be serviced and does not break down with in the year.
LIKE WHAT?!
It’s better to pay 550 to 1500 dollars on a vacuum once every 20 years or more than buying a new 350 dollar shark every 2 years. I agree with you 100 percent on putting Shark in the Windmill Brains Tier. Also higher quality vacuums not long last longer, they have better sounding motors.
I think you should do a video for your favorite or best top 10 vacuums. I bought a Stratos and si far I like it minus it doesn’t seem to leave the carpet with deep cleaning lines I like, like compared to an old Kirby I have it’s not close. Idk if that just bc it has the other front roller which may flatten out those lines, or if it really doesn’t feel clean as well, thoughts?
Your right on that sharks don't deep clean .
Here are my top 5 vacuums
ruclips.net/video/kzhD_gtMuNM/видео.html
It’s Too Bad that Shark has NOT been Sued for producing JUNK vacuums and that will Never Happen. I will NEVER EVER own a Shark!
I got on here trying to figure out how to open the head, to see if the belt was broken or if it was just clogged, and now I see that the whole head is a POS. Nice. I liked this vacuum well enough, only had it a year. This is so disappointing. I did buy it at close outs and discontinues type of store, Ollie’s.
Getting an advert for Shark before/during watching this video seemed a bit pointless!
Of course selling vacuums that do not last probably doesn't matter to Shark, makes it easier to sell them a "new" model, plus even if they do offer a long warranty, it'll be costed in the price of the vacuum.
I’m so glad I smash my navigator!
I undertand bc i repair my own stuff.
But u didnt show how to get off the clear plastic part that is over the big large roller portion. I do have this vacuum and I got it from Costco because I knew I was probably going to have problems with it and I had to replace the little small belt you showed in the beginning. I bought off Amazon .... im gonna be returning the vacuum soon
I would get several dysons for my collection before I would even consider a Shark 🚮
Yes shark is the Pinnacle of disposable🚮
I have this model and been trying to find a disassembly video. No luck.
My brush roller isn’t rolling correctly and there’s a noise. No blockages. It was nearly 500$ not 150$.
I have an old shark liftaway single roller that has been working for years. When I compare it to the uv850 what a difference. Old one has thicker plastic, seals better and has a larger container. This 850 feels flimsy, doesnt seal as good, you can smell the musty odor and whats worst if that powerfin goes, no way to order just that as you mentioned. Hopefully someone will come up with a replacement.
Ahhhhh, I foolishly purchased a Shark Duo-Clean a few years back. I thought it was the right choice for a 4000 sqft ranch with 50/50 mix of ceramic and Berber carpet. Such a waste of money... freaking junk! It's 💩'ing the bed and I'm ready for a quality vacuum. Canister seems to have the best suction and may be the way to go based on your videos. There are just so many choices. I've watched all your videos, and it seems Meile and Sebo are the brands you mention most. That being said, there are so many options within those brands, and it's hard to know which model to buy!
There's two general answers to vacuum cleaners. Central Vacuum superiority and the SEBO E3. Thanks for watching I hope that helps.
@PerformanceReviews Well, then it's a SEBO E3! Thank you
Thanks.
Of course you're right, stupid me looking for the roller that a small stick got caught in and partially damaged. So I'm thinking, I'll just buy another roller. Garbage!
Wow that's not right, I wouldn't spend my money on something that would break in a year. Thank you for this video!
HOT GARBAGE - I had a clients shark break on me just yesterday! Thank God I'm finally getting my Sebo next month
wish I could have seen this before I bought my stupid vacuum. I’ve had it 3 months and I believe my belt is broken. Now I seen this video, I’m very disappointed in my shark vacuum buy. 😢
I have a problem with the propeller mechanism. After a rug got caught in it, now it doesn't self-propel. I am trying to take it apart. Do you have a video on how to take it apart? I have most of the screw out, but still, there is more I think at the front of the unit. I got one at the bottom of the tiny roller. Thanks!
To pickup one of this machines in a blackfriday may be it wont last until the next black friday! As per your review the roller will break it self. Filter maintenande is not enough. This machine needs a technitian to provide maintenance more often than other expensive and quality machines. But why? Faulty or bad design its not the problem. This machine looks over designed not over engeneried. It looks like it will work but this is the issue it just looks. Shark needs to change its customer manager and look to provide better support for the customer. Also it need to simplify design asking for solutions, some of its machines looks nice but the issue is they had to chenge the disposable appliance market because in the short future that wont sell people will start asking for devices that can be repair.
How did you get that top plastic part off?
yeah sharks are dump.
but as a collecter i do like the Shark Navigator NV22L that one is multi cyclonic and has a very long hose . got it for free on the curb its fun and still works quite well. its before the swivel steering. which is fine its small enough , i'd rather have multi cyclonic filtration than swivel.
I have been watching your videos and have a Dyson and I have decided I Hate bagless! Dyson is heavy, noisy, feels cheap, expensive, but it does clean the carpets well. I am thinking about a Riccar model, the entry level or the purple one. Do you recommend the Riccar? I think even the cheaper one is better than a Dyson. I have central vac for general cleaning, so I just need for carpets.
Does shark own the Fantom name?
I don't know why so many people like these?! I would much rather have a bagged machine like an Electrolux or Miele!! Don't you agree!
my. shark sweeper head stopped working I havent used it 50 times and I spent more time cleaning the soft roll as the brush head stops spinning ,Now however it wont work at all and the lights keep flashing and not spinning ,I ordered security torqus screw tips so I will take apart and either fix or scrap thenk god i have a Dyson and a Miele.
I have the newer model of this shark duo clean lift away vaccuum and the main roller and brush roller both don't move anymore and there's no real screws to open it. They used some weird thing that I've never seen before so I can't even open it up and try to fix it myself😅 really not vibing with having to call them tbh
I disagree
How?
Funny things is for the Shark designers, if they’d just engineer a good machine it would be a lot easier. Almost as if they worked hard to make garbage.
So what’s the best vacuum
ruclips.net/video/w59HCZh-BNM/видео.html
So now which vacuum is the best 😅
ruclips.net/video/kzhD_gtMuNM/видео.html
Oh my god, take a breath.
Why can't someone make a decent vacuum. My 500 dollar dyson 2 animal ball isn't good either. Always clogs, hose broke, not even 2 years old.
There are plenty of companies that make decent machines like SEBO,MD, VacuFlo,Miele, Lindhuas &Numatic.
Happened to me!
I have bought my last shark. My power fins are trashed and you cant buy parts. Atleast with dyson you can find tons of parts easily both dyson and aftermarket parts. I hate planned obsolescence once this shark dies I will be going back to dyson.
Why not buy better than both? Have you looked at SEBO or Miele ?
Alex: What is your opinion of the Workhorse vacuum cleaner by Amway?
Stay tuned I have one I need to do a video on
@@PerformanceReviews OK, great.
Thanks for the info. Good vid. I couldn't give the first flying frick about 'e-waste' though.
Lol thanks. Just dodged it. Got a hoover
Which one?
@@heeheeriah went for a cheaper bagless one. Forgot exactly
@@majidaldo elite rewind?
How do you clean the filter in the lower front????? I tried cleaning it with water but didnt totally clean it:-(
I stated in the video it needs to be replaced every three to six months.
@PerformanceReviews ahhhhh, guess I wasn't paying close enough attention
Could be worse, could be a rocket duo!we have house cleaners that use them😔low power and a duo head..yeah,showed them the Felix/Dart,they say too heavy, easier to replace every year I guess and not clean properly.
The answer to that is always a canister.
Shark should not exist at all! Great video anyway
How the F do you take the F ing cover off
ruclips.net/video/KCIQ1eeYmxU/видео.html
My back wheel just stopped working. I looked up information on what could be causing it and troubleshoot -nothing worked. Any suggestions?
Dysons suck too
this it why i dont like shark that don't last and are crap
No body pay money for stupid shark vacuum
We have two long haired herding dogs. The Shark we have, the UV700 dual whatever, finally jammed beyond repair and I can see no way to fix. Sure glad I found this site. Thanks plenty. Will look at your list and toss the Shark in the recycle.
NOOOOOOO FUCK
I have the cordless version . It's a terrible design imo . It's top heavy but the design of the floor head to the tube is awful anything big gets stuck there right away and shark only allows easy removal of the front roller you can't remove the anti hair wrap fins so where most of the dirt gets stuck you cant clean easily.also at the top of the wand hair gets stuck and dust constantly just before it connects to the bin. Very badly designed imo. It does have powerful suction and the anti hair wrap fins actually are good and work well but the design is awful. I'm sellng it and.buying a Dyson V10!
My family has a shark, it is a older rotator model. I really want a Miele c3 or Sebo e3. Time to save up my moneyyyyy!!!
