Ohhh dude! Sorry to hear...tiny mistake and you had to yank the trans, completely rip apart and clean out again. Basically a 2nd rebuild save for o-ring changes. Ugh. I'm sure this vid will help others avoid similar situation. Thanks for the flush ideas. Just rebuilt my C5, planned to reuse my known good TC, but still wanted to check one way clutch, end play, and flush just for good measure.
Sorry you had to go through that. Great of you to point out how important the spacing between the seated converter and flex plate is when installing a new converter! Even a new converter should be flushed before installation to remove anything left in there from the factory. Great video.
I just kept pulling the drain plug and letting it out. Put plug back in and flush again and again. If the converter doesn’t have a drain plug, this method is worthless.
04 f150 5.4l is the truck, I want to get the recon torque converter installed in my trans being rebuild, has 1600 1800 stall speed is that better then the stock tc that google says is 1800 2000 stall speed?
Will small amounts and traces of mineral spirits impact the quality of the fluid (in my case CVT fluid), or do you have to do a final rinse with gasoline, and maybe a sacrificial quart of CVT fluid?

I learned a lot on this one, I hope you can use this knowledge to avoid the same issues.

Glad it was helpful!
you always shove converter into trans back out 1/8th to 3/16th and add washers if gap remains to flex plate mounting
Yes. I have done that a few times. It can get it lined up better. I completely failed to check this one for end play. I screwed myself.
Thanks for showing that to us, Dan. Unfortunately, at the moment I do not have any projects that I'm working on.
You are very welcome. When you do have a project, please share it with us.
How do you flush it?.. I didn't see the demonstration...or was I asleep?

Will mineral spirits damage the clutch material in the converter?
I highly doubt it would damage anything but I’m not a trans expert, just an idiot working in his garage. Maybe ask a Trans shop or expert.

You would have to define what better means. Better for performance? Better for fuel mileage? Etc.

I do t know about CVT fluid. I think the sacrifical quart would be a great idea and peace of mind.
