I actually both enjoy the singleplayer and also play the multiplayer semi-competitively (I attend local tournaments). CAS isn't as good as before since there's a lack of assets but its apparently going to be added with dlc which isn't too bad. The storymodes get pretty formulaic and some of the lines and voice acting are pretty weak but yeah, as you say its there not really bad but not amazing. Libra of souls however, I enjoy a decent bit. The VN style storytelling is similar to blazblue so I don't mind it as much and the weird challenges and conditions make the otherwise easy fights against AI pretty challenging. That being said, the gameplay is no where near as diverse as SC3 Chronicles of the Sword because of a lack of unique enemies. You don't fight a statue hephaestus or feckin Night terror. Even so, the actual storytelling is still a step up considering previous story titles didn't even have dialogue outside of the few cutscenes that would happen. You gotta remember that they didn't get a massive budget. So the fact that we got a solid multiplayer experience is a good trade off for an okay singleplayer one. Good balanced review, but I do disagree with the notion that there isn't SOME enjoyment in libra and chronicles.

This game... Really unsure what to think of it so far. If I do buy it then it would be the sole reason I pay for online on my PS4, but it's also lacking everything I really wanted it to have (although to be fair what I was hoping for was unrealistic). CAS characters are allowed in ranked, for some unknown reason, none of my mains (Cassandra, Amy, Natsu) or their styles made it into the game in any way, and there's no fixed version of the Legendary Souls from V to work through in preparation for ranked. Really on the fence... Don't really want to pick up the game and have to shell out money just to get one of my mains back as DLC later...
Yeeeah gonna be fun watching y'all take this back in two years. Lets see...character models recycled from SC4 but with less characters and flagrantly cut content being resold to us, the smallest number of stages in the entire series (even less than Soul Blade) with two of them being straight copy/pasted from SC5, less moves and stances than previous entries, Create A Soul being copy/pasted from SC5 but with less content...this is the reheated leftovers of an 11 year old game and I feel like I am actively being screwed over. It IS pretty fun to play and the online is solid, but we would have been better served if they just ported Soul Calibur IV and fixed the gameplay. As it is, we somehow got less than a port. We got a contraction pack...for the second time in a row. Also know what makes Reversal Edge even worse? Some characters have a crappier version of Reversal Edge in their combo strings! WTF?! What is the point of this! It's like Talim has poisoned combos! If I press the wrong sequence of buttons then she just stops mid-combo to bend over and take it! I have to memorize a list of Bad Combos to NOT do!
Yeah... I do enjoy the game very much (more than I did V) but yeah you said it. I hope they take out those RE in the combos eventually (although I know they won't). I think it was slightly over hyped. The re-using of assets is a trend I have been noticing a lot recently, it is unfortunately a sign of the times (and not a good one at that). But I don't think most people even care to notice these things...
Judging from the user scores on Metacritic, people are already hating it worse than even SC5. The uploader himself admitted to playing the hell out of SC4 before deciding to hate it. Sometime in the future, reality will kick in.
Don’t forget that soul charge is a defensive move. It causes pushback and can be used as a combo breaker of sorts. So meter choice for all but two dudes is 1) big hit or 2) breathing room followed by the potential to do damage.
Soul calibur 3 was my favourite, havent played since soul calibur 4 and since getting 6, the game is alright but started playing online and now I just wish there was a refund mode on the ps store because the salt mine in my room has become rediculous thanks to the inclusion of 2B
my three reasons for playing soul calibur are usually siegfried, create a soul, and guest characters. usually. also i usually wave off Groh's overly edgy anime stuff because he's supposed ot be some sort of time traveler(i assume?????)
8:24 I mean, you could play as mummys and orcs and well hung thanoses, or you can watch cr1tikal's soul calibur vids to see why people really love the character creator and how it really is a scope that allows you to peer into the heart of insanity
Get rid of the RE RPS minigame, have RE cost meter (it guarantees damage unlike GI), reduce the length of Critical Edge and Soul Charge animations, and give everyone the ability to use Ex moves outside of Charge (for meter cost of course). Boom, you got yourself a great fighting game.
Wormsie What a pointless comment. You know that I know that "You can just side-step RE" *If they are stupid enough to keep using it in the neutral* But guess what, GI can also "just be sidestepped". GI doesn't do guaranteed damage when landed (unlike RE), and it doesn't bog gameplay down like RE does. GI = good mechanic RE = shitty mechanic RE shouldn't even exist with GI being meterless again. SC6 doesn't need 2 defensive mechanics, especially not when they overlap. RE should at least require meter to compensate for the guaranteed damage it can do on hit. And as for the minigame that comes after a successful RE, it has to go. It has no place in Soul Calibur, period. It takes control away from the players and simplifies gameplay to that of a mobile game. Straight garbage.
Wormsie Removing RE would ONLY make SC6 a better fighting game. But no, casuals gotta have their flashy cinematics. The same casuals that probably already moved on to other games.
You do realise that it doesn't work against strings unless they hold it down to extend it, in which case you can side-step it, right? It sounds like you haven't even bothered trying to lap this out or you are just a troll
Young sung's fighting style is in the game just not playable, I've fought random characters with it as well as my main since the third game, lizardman, no salt here, I swear, slightly mad that while still surviving the aftermath of a hurricane I get readdicted to soul calibur but I get to stare at my main and wait for them to sell it to me as dlc, but yeah
@Kaidoku123 definitely could be right, but I think they'll both be dlc, just in different season passes, but only time will tell, kinda hard to speculate on a game, or even sleep, with everything in this state of chaos that it still is down here, I mean not ten minutes ago too much rain made me ceiling fall right in front of me, I mean it's not a hard fix but like I just finished cleaning it this morn I swear
Man, I couldn't agree more with the gripes visually speaking I think SC3, despite being my favourite cause nostalgia is one hell of a drug, was the furthest in to fantasy the series should have gone imo. It had its wackier elements but still felt MOSTLY like a natural evolution. Then 4 happened PS: Seriously tho Raphael as a vampire, fuckin wot?
The story mode was alright but took a enormous amount of time to complete everyone (had to start over since save got corrupted) but I enjoyed it. (I have not played the CaS story mode). inferno can be played in local versus. Tira is season pass exclusive. Reversal edge is not impossible to deal with and its not the worst, its similar to SFIV focus attack except with a bit more substance (Anyone complaining are being too easily frustrated) I like it a bit but I can see where it can get annoying, personally it makes every player viable and have a chance rather it being 50-50. You can play your CaS online. Please dont spread some misinformation
I remember playing SC2 religiously back in the day, but at the time I really didn't view fighting games as anything more than button mashers. I went and played other fighting games and got pretty big into the FGC, and ended up getting SC6 having not played 3-5. I'm surprised you gave it a favorable review. The game is so gimmicky, all the negative stuff you said in your other video seems to apply so the games in the series I missed must have been really garbage - there's no footsies or spacing, there's no good defensive moves, it's all rush down spam like a lot of fighting games have become. I mean, if you have to question if even playing mindless spamming is viable online, it's not a good fighting game for competitive. In a good fighting game spamming gets punished. It's a bad game.
I like SC6. It may not be great for competitive play, but I’ve never been into that. I’ve always broken it out when friends were over and have a blast, and a lot of the mechanics are great for that kind of play. But I can see why people were possibly let down once again.
Useless character creation if the weapons and movements are recycled. They should put back these cool characters with original weapon and fighting styles Lynette, Valeria, Hualin, Strife, Miser, Chester, Demuth, Girardot, Revenant, Greed, Setsuka, Hilde. Not these Xiba copying Kilik Natsu to Taki Pyrrha to either Cassandra or Sophitia Leixia to Xianghua Kamikirusi to Nightmare Ashlotte to Astaroth Angol Fear to Seong Mina Scheherazade to Amy Cool new characters but recycled weapon and fighting styles.
It's namco Bandai. In ace combat assault horizon, they had a cut scene mode where u played paper rock scissors with other planes or bombing runs. In that game, it was trash. In this game, it's pretty good.
Can't really call yourself a veteran if you can't 8way verticals. Not saying good players can't set up REs to be more difficult to step, but if a newcomer continously catches you with random REs, you are doing it wrong. Adapt.
@Base Bass Forte he's right. RE's are extremely easy to sidestep unless someone catches you in an unsafe combo. In most cases, your sidestep opens them up for a juicy whiff punish, like a CE. Or just hit them with a strong move, or start a strong combo. RE even degrades the *user's* Guard, so if they spam it, it becomes really easy to Guard Crush them, opening them up further. People who spam RE are extremely easy to beat once you get sidesteps down. Also, any Guard Break (lightning) or Unblockable (fire) moves rip straight through RE. So if someone is spamming it, just use one of those to get an Impact Counter, usually dealing great damage.
I wish Soul Calibur caught up with other fighting games in the graphical department. SC6 looks like a last gen game that has simply been given 4k visuals. And damn is the character creation limited in terms of variety and having most of the interesting items locked behind paywalls.
I don't care how well this game sold you won't convince there will be a Soul Calibur 7. I have never seen any player base bomb this fast in my life. At launch there were around 14,000 players on PC. That's pretty good. But then not even 2 MONTHS later, 600 fucking players. I don't give a shit what pathetic excuse anyone pulls out of their ass that is horrendous! This franchise is dead and even if they do release another one I won't be there to buy it.
I'm so glad I waited FOREVER for a sale on both the base game and both season passes. Got a worthwhile game for like 30 bucks total instead of what, 100?
Deleted my last comment, had lots of wierd typos, I'm on mobile, plz no bulli Really good review, disagree with a few points, but I can't say you're *wrong*, I just disagree. To all of the comments saying RE is broken/ruining the game, sidesteps and guard breaks. And I guess do fewer unsafe combos, but mostly sidestep. You can whiff punish them suuuuuper hard.
I'd like Soul Caliburs setting more and probably be more salty about all the meme characters in the online if Bandai Namco themselves actually cared about the game's setting. As it stands all Soul Calibur is these days is a a means to playing a game with a great character customize. And honestly I'm fine with that, not many games have a good character creator and are usually extremely limiting. These sort of games are fun and loved by all, there's just some charm to making Ronald McDonald fight Colonel Sanders, shit reminds me to a lesser extent of the days when MUGEN was active. And honestly, we need a resurgence of that genre, you can only play WWE 2K14 for so long afterall. I'd agree if you were to argue the kind of fans who are only in it to make shitty meme characters will never genuinely like the actual series, but honestly until Bamco themselves put effort into a game people would actually enjoy playing, a game with content beyond the multiplayer and keeps to the integrity of SC2, I can't even blame anyone for not wanting to get into the real Soul Calibur.
For single player I don't know why they didn't make a bunch of unlockable content you can unlock in a endless mode like they did in Tekken 7. It's kind of unimaginative but at least you play matches instead of spend all your time reading a bad story with an occasional match with weird rules.
My grievances (I've played Sc2, Sc4,Sc5, now Sc6) ( 4,5,& 6, were all played on friends consoles and games, Sc6 I bought for one of my friends for a early gift.) I'm a fan of Anime, but Soul Calibur with Anime....? No thanks, gimme back the Asthetic of Sc2; A good mix of different fighters around the world, and the costumes slightly more in tune with their stories. (Or references) And I miss the old Nightmare Costumes from Sc2. (They turned him into a UNICORN.)I don't mind the split/separate characters between Sigfreid and Nightmare, but I don't like how Nightmare just turned into this weird slightly bright colored monster. I understand its supposed to be NOT human, but...the armor is Sc2 looks like a better candidate for Nightmare. The monstrosities of Character Creator I've experienced in 6 is just...sad and laughable. ( Coming across Dio and Pikachu) Plus lack of costume for the original characters. (Didn't the main characters have 2 or 3 costume selects instead of just one costume and 2 colors..?) The first character I played was Cassandra from Sc2, (because Sc2 was what I played as a kid as a stand alone fighting game. No Cass in 6? Kinda expected. But what in the name happened to Raphael...? That just...was...odd. It's incredibly jarring to go on to the other games and then it's just: What happened to you buddy? You were cool, but now...you are a vampire? One last thing...based on all that stuff about Geralt, there is another guest fighter on their way... 2b It isn't Anime, and she's decent enough to fit, though the bunches of weapons in the games this fighter is from has a bunch of combo variables. Spears, Heavy Swords (like nightmare), Gauntlets, light swords(think engine blade from FF). Pod programs; Spears, shooting bullets. This is the only thing I'd vouch for. If looking at the story and past works from what this character is from, it's due for some recognition. Aside from all the other bull SC is pulling at this point. I'm glad I just have a ps2 to stick with normal Soul Calibur 2.

Yo man sick video. Hope your channel gets big
Now I hope SC7 has a super Saiyan like transformation when they soul charge for every character including CaS .-.
CE scaling so hard is also pretty whack.
You can just side-step RE
Wormsie
What a pointless comment.
You know that I know that "You can just side-step RE"
*If they are stupid enough to keep using it in the neutral*
But guess what, GI can also "just be sidestepped".
GI doesn't do guaranteed damage when landed (unlike RE), and it doesn't bog gameplay down like RE does.
GI = good mechanic
RE = shitty mechanic
RE shouldn't even exist with GI being meterless again.
Wormsie
Removing RE would ONLY make SC6 a better fighting game.
I LOVE THIS GAME! Great review.
Uploaded on No Nut November.
Like a true man of culture.
This guy is seriously underrated. Gives me a penutbuttergamer vibe.
oh fuck I love your videos plz make more, more often
im hella mad its 2020 and they still havent brought back my Korean Kickers
Man, I couldn't agree more with the gripes visually speaking
I think SC3, despite being my favourite cause nostalgia is one hell of a drug, was the furthest in to fantasy the series should have gone imo. It had its wackier elements but still felt MOSTLY like a natural evolution. Then 4 happened
PS: Seriously tho Raphael as a vampire, fuckin wot?
Yoshimitsu gang!
Ayyyyye nice one bro.
I see you're a Yoshi main as well.
8:26 DAMN right 😂😂😂
This is the game that got me into fighting games proper
Awww shit I was waiting for this!
Review this again. They updated this for a while. And still waiting on Season 3 or Soul Calibur 7
i love kbash videos, but i never undersand when he talks about fighting game mechanics
I'm in love with Kbash😍💯😍💯
Hey KBash!
Soul calibur 6 is on sale right now on the playsation store. If you don't have it and are watching this video what are you waiting for?
i never expected gerald to be in a soulcalibur game
I love Taki in this and I’m starting to get use to Setsuka now
I remember playing SC2 religiously back in the day, but at the time I really didn't view fighting games as anything more than button mashers.
I approve of Me Calibur 6.
I like SC6. It may not be great for competitive play, but I’ve never been into that. I’ve always broken it out when friends were over and have a blast, and a lot of the mechanics are great for that kind of play. But I can see why people were possibly let down once again.
This video is like Peanut Butter.
I love you, you remind me of chrisraygun but better at some parts 💓
Useless character creation if the weapons and movements are recycled. They should put back these cool characters with original weapon and fighting styles
Lynette, Valeria, Hualin, Strife, Miser, Chester, Demuth, Girardot, Revenant, Greed, Setsuka, Hilde.
Not these
Xiba copying Kilik
Natsu to Taki
Pyrrha to either Cassandra or Sophitia
Leixia to Xianghua
Kamikirusi to Nightmare
Ashlotte to Astaroth
Angol Fear to Seong Mina
Scheherazade to Amy
Cool new characters but recycled weapon and fighting styles.
It's namco Bandai. In ace combat assault horizon, they had a cut scene mode where u played paper rock scissors with other planes or bombing runs.
In that game, it was trash. In this game, it's pretty good.
Get that DoA6 review made!
I never seen someone say that they actually like reversal Edge. For me, it is easily the worst mechanic added to a fighting game ever.
Guard Break or move out of the way
It isn't that hard to dodge
Maybe your just bad
I wish Soul Calibur caught up with other fighting games in the graphical department. SC6 looks like a last gen game that has simply been given 4k visuals. And damn is the character creation limited in terms of variety and having most of the interesting items locked behind paywalls.
Funky fresh
I don't care how well this game sold you won't convince there will be a Soul Calibur 7. I have never seen any player base bomb this fast in my life. At launch there were around 14,000 players on PC. That's pretty good. But then not even 2 MONTHS later, 600 fucking players. I don't give a shit what pathetic excuse anyone pulls out of their ass that is horrendous! This franchise is dead and even if they do release another one I won't be there to buy it.
Tfw I actually did like Soul Chronicle and Libra of Souls
Is it just me or does this guy sound oddly familiar to space hamster?
Still waiting on Chronicles of the Sword 2 mode :(
Hwang is back, dlc but he is back. Fun to play too
I wonder what he think about Hwang DLC
I'm so glad I waited FOREVER for a sale on both the base game and both season passes. Got a worthwhile game for like 30 bucks total instead of what, 100?
9:16 is there a god? 😂😂😣😣
Deleted my last comment, had lots of wierd typos, I'm on mobile, plz no bulli
Really good review, disagree with a few points, but I can't say you're *wrong*, I just disagree.
To all of the comments saying RE is broken/ruining the game, sidesteps and guard breaks. And I guess do fewer unsafe combos, but mostly sidestep. You can whiff punish them suuuuuper hard.
If you wanna break the reversal edge, use a break attack ex. A+B
Funny with all the Wang stuff,
hes in the game now (as dlc though)
8:23 I feel targeted...
I hope this isn't the last SC :(
What no Yoshimitsu seppuku kills?
For single player I don't know why they didn't make a bunch of unlockable content you can unlock in a endless mode like they did in Tekken 7. It's kind of unimaginative but at least you play matches instead of spend all your time reading a bad story with an occasional match with weird rules.
Iknow its kinda late but will you review nier automata? Your missing out if you havent played it
Man wait until he sees hwang now
My grievances (I've played Sc2, Sc4,Sc5, now Sc6) ( 4,5,& 6, were all played on friends consoles and games, Sc6 I bought for one of my friends for a early gift.)
I'm a fan of Anime, but Soul Calibur with Anime....? No thanks, gimme back the Asthetic of Sc2; A good mix of different fighters around the world, and the costumes slightly more in tune with their stories. (Or references)
And I miss the old Nightmare Costumes from Sc2.
( Coming across Dio and Pikachu)
Plus lack of costume for the original characters. (Didn't the main characters have 2 or 3 costume selects instead of just one costume and 2 colors..?)
The first character I played was Cassandra from Sc2, (because Sc2 was what I played as a kid as a stand alone fighting game.
No Cass in 6? Kinda expected.
But what in the name happened to Raphael...? That just...was...odd.
It's incredibly jarring to go on to the other games and then it's just:
What happened to you buddy?
You were cool, but now...you are a vampire?
One last thing...based on all that stuff about Geralt, there is another guest fighter on their way...
2b
It isn't Anime, and she's decent enough to fit, though the bunches of weapons in the games this fighter is from has a bunch of combo variables.
Where's my Soul Calibur on Switch I mean any will do, I will even settle with II
