    WOW This must have taken so long to make!
    10/10 video.

    • @arnlol
      @arnlol  2 года назад +4

      Yes it really did. Most of the installs were made in March, it took a few full days just to install all the builds. And then I needed to record them all and add all of them in the editing software, add the drive pictures, text etc... So yeah it took a bit of time, but since I like messing arround with old computers and hard drives it wasn't a big problem.
      Glad you liked it :)

    Thank you for the nostalgia 🙂 The first drive in the video was actually designed by Tandon before WD bought them out.

    • @arnlol
      @arnlol  2 года назад +3

      Yes it is. As far as I understand they bought Tandon and slapped an integrated controller on the drive rather than them being MFM. I think these are some of the very first IDE drives.
      I do have a video of this exact drive that I made in 2021.

      @@arnlol hey, so recently I have found an mysterious WD-262 hard drive. There's no info about it. It is in a 5.25 inch backet, half height. Looks almost like the WD90344-A, but it has the strip going from the middle of the drive. (the circle part with 5 dots). On front it has a sticker that says:
      DRIVE TM-262
      TYPE 6
      FORMAT MFM
      It's listed as untested. Do you maybe have any info about it?? Thanks

    • @arnlol
      @arnlol  2 года назад +1

      @@mikixyz123 Well I don’t have any MFM drives, but from a quick search it appears to be a WD branded Tandom TM262 which would be a 20MB MFM drive.
      The WD39044-A also has the stripe under the circle at the middle, it’s just hidden by the drive’s label. Considering they both are from tondon designs I assume they are quite similar.

    • @mikixyz123
      @mikixyz123 2 года назад +1

      @@arnlol makes sense. The seller also has some rare drives, even a couple healthy MFM hard drives! From rare drives I found an Miniscribe drive, and a MFM drive from the brand "Cogito Systems".
      Also with the strip I meant that the WD-262 has the strip uncovered while the WD90344-A has the strip covered with an sticker.

    Is there going to be a Windows 98 beta version ? Surprised the ST-157A can hold that capacity for Windows Chicago beta

    • @arnlol
      @arnlol  2 года назад +1

      The ST-157A can even store the RTM version actually. It will refuse to install on it, but if you make a minimal install on something else then copy all the files it will fit.
      The early betas install just fine on it though, which is why the 40MB drives are towards the start before the builds grew larger.
      If this video is received well then maybe I will do Windows 98, but I would not expect that anytime soon. Even if I decide to go for it, the installs would take much more time to do compared to Windows 95 since 98 has a lot more files.

    can you test windows whistler and xp leaks ? and its a good video

    • @arnlol
      @arnlol  2 года назад +1

      If this video is received well, then maybe I will, but I wouldn't expect that anytime soon. I would probably go for Windows 98 first, and also installing all Whistler builds would probably take a very high amount of time and i'm not even sure if I have enough hard drives with sufficient storage space to do all the builds (Without using too modern ones which are very complicated to record since they are so quiet).

      Yes it is the other one that I didn’t use in the main video of this drive model. The other one is the one I usually use on the PI and as you said I did not want to format it especially since I have two of those.

      @@arnlol at 2:31 why did you use the ST157A with worn bearings?

    • @arnlol
      @arnlol  2 года назад +1

      @@MyComputerStudios_ Originally I used both, but when I came back to it I decided I would do no duplicate drive models. The 73g build was on the other ST-157A but was really slow to load, so I replaced this one with the Maxtor 7540 (which I used on an early build because of the drive’s issues, as the first partition is only about 60MB) as 81 on the noisier ST-157A didn’t take nearly as long to start up.

    • @arnlol
      @arnlol  10 месяцев назад

      No I just decided to install each build on a different drive, but it doesn't matter. I have enough drives to install each build on a different one rather than wipe and install all the builds on the same one, which also makes my life easier, I can just intall all the builds then record them all once done with the installations.
